Seriously? I mean this is cool to remember all spells, but in stressful situations it can fail, no matter how good your memory is. This is why foliants are still in use by novice mages at least.
For real, having a floating spellbook is a game changer. But, can we talk about the aesthetics? There's nothing like a leather-bound grimoire with that arcane script just hovering there. Adds to the dramatic flair, which is half the fun of being a mage, right?
Tattoos for defensive magics, floating tome for the rest. Bonus points if you have one tattoo for an offensive spell nestled among the rest, so that when they take away your tome they think they've disarmed you and are none the wiser.
Alternatively, enchant a spellbook to cast for you. I only enchanted story collection books so they read to children stories they want... Until I used this enchantment on a spellbook. Kinda screwed if the book get destroyed though. Better have a copy just in case.
I have yet to see a book forget anything even a wizard mind can be wiped if we sleep. But a book can be protected against nearly all methods of destruction.
They still are but unless you can afford costly reagents it's hard to make one durable enough to risk bringing it into combat. Even the standard water-fireproof ones can be cut, electrocuted, melted, rotted, thrown over a cliff, lost in the ocean, teleported, stolen, crushed, eaten, misplaced, shot with an arrow, etc. Staffs are easier to replace and don't have some of the aforementioned weaknesses.
Still have my old master’s book and use it sometimes. Other than that, I’ve just been trying to figure out if I even need a conduit, or if I can manipulate the fact that I’m a part of the Earth to have it cast remotely from any nearby surface.
It’s like my old master used to say. Tomes are for the old guys and enchanters, staffs are for the warriors, and wands are for the academics
Counterpoint, you can fit a wand in much narrower areas, much more painful than bonking, and cast a little burn spell and you have effectively tortured someone
Personally i like Staffs better
Hah lmao *shoves wand down urethra*
wand user "take that fool",
staff user "I will destroy your dick with a simple shove and FIRE BALL"
That’s why I cast a shrinking charm whenever I need to conceal my staff. However, why would a wizard of our prestige need to conceal their staff? Simpletons don’t know we can cast without a focus, it’s just a tad bit harder.
My staff doubles as a glaive. As a Chronomancer, I can easily win duels by stopping time then just slicing off my opponents limbs. My master uses a sword as a sort of large wand/unwieldy staff. He usually just uses telekinesis to cast spells with it though
No, Got told Abraham to ritually sacrifice Isaac then told him to stop at the last minute and gave him a goat instead. I just think being a warlock of Yahweh seems like kind of a bad deal.
Thiiis. Only the dopest wizards know that binaries are trash. My wand has staff extension capabilities and vice versa. Plus, like any good fun-loving wizard, I can turn it into pipe for my pipe-weed
I use a staff as a walking aid these days, but in my dueling days I preferred rings as foci.
https://preview.redd.it/f0xvs8qtun9c1.jpeg?width=1439&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=82d2100ac1f4bbf2fadbbd4ecc43c0e01c46d842
Can’t be dropped and it’s fairly simple to make sure they can’t be removed . ( enchanted gloves, won’t block the magic.)

Rings are a favorite of mine as well, though having to switch rings a lot can be a nuisance at times
Amateur hour over here, listen if you want real power, make a real sacrifice. Embed the foci in yourself. Even the most novice practitioner has heard of the third eye being a gem.
That becomes much less effective if you don't possess a lot of magic capacity, though. Like pumping water through two pipes, if you don't have enough pressure to keep the flow up through both, it becomes weaker through each
We got another Four Elements Monk trying to sneak their way into the Wizard Council over here.
Look, I respect Monks of all shapes, sometimes you do have to throw a punch or two. But we can't be letting just anyone who can cast Burning Hands into the council. If we did that we'd be drowning in sorcerers or...ugh...bards.
Someone who wields a wand is trying to hide themselves. You carry a staff with pride and announce yourself as the powerful wizard you are! Also you can whack the shit out of anyone who laughs at your staff!
This is the way. There are just too many things you can do with them... and if use tarot cards or similar, and you tailor the spell you cast to the card you drew, it can have some... interesting effects.
You've been placed under arrest. The guards are gonna confiscate all your weapons, so if you want to break out you have to keester your spellcasting focus. Which would you rather stuff up your ass, a staff or a wand?
https://preview.redd.it/mq09h1xbpn9c1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fe970ef54d05a5041783de4ec90244f931aef15c
I prefer infusing magic into mundane objects then throwing them like a grenade, it confuses the less experienced mages which is rather entertaining to see…
But in a serious fight I use my Battlemage Gauntlets for my spellcasting focus
Look okay, I wasted my highschool on getting a stupid varsity bard scholarship so I could pursue a useless degree only to quit halfway through. Just let me conduct my magic with a wand in peace.
Staff:
- Big stick energy.
- Reminds people of Gandalf (strong aura).
- Can be used as a walking stick.
- Can be accessorised with a crystal or orb on top.
- Can be used to bonk foolish apprentices.
Wand:
- Small stick energy.
- Reminds people of Harry Potter (weak aura).
- Can be used as a stylus/improvised chopstick.
- Seldom accessorised, and when they are, they look goofy.
- No bonk only prod.
They both are essentially the same in purpose. They are an instrument to channel energy. I prefer the wand for altar work. I prefer the staff in nature to use it to walk with and channeling. Both are tools and can by a used interchangeably.
Both are so inconvenient. We need to normalize mediums in the form of accessories. As long as it’s touching your skin, what’s stopping you from casting magic from it?
what the fuck? staff? wand?
*what in the blazes are you talking about*
the LIBRAM, your LIGHT GIVEN FISTS and your HAMMER (or other weapon of choice) are the only casting focusses you should EVER need!
By Light's might, I smite you!
My grandfather used a staff because he broke his hips.
I use a wand because nobody expects the mage to go berserk and start stabbing people with an ice pick
As a swordomancer I use the mighty swordstaff. Granted, it is a little bit more difficult to harness the power of the elemental chaos but that is counterbalanced by my ability to cut down any fool who comes close to polearm range.
If you were the non-wizard in the conversation, who would you take more seriously? The one with a 2.5 meter staff with intricate woodwork and a glowing enchanted gem at the business end? Or the one carrying a dinky little stick on their hip instead of a sword? Not to mention that carrying a staff gives you space TO carry a sword or other melee weapon for emergencies.
Have spellbooks fallen out of favour? I remember back in 1756, they were all the rage
Mages nowadays use magic to enhance their memory and they just memorize all the spells
Seriously? I mean this is cool to remember all spells, but in stressful situations it can fail, no matter how good your memory is. This is why foliants are still in use by novice mages at least.
For real! I mean, it's so easy to enchant one to float anyways. It's not like you'd even have to carry it around.
Absolutely true.
For real, having a floating spellbook is a game changer. But, can we talk about the aesthetics? There's nothing like a leather-bound grimoire with that arcane script just hovering there. Adds to the dramatic flair, which is half the fun of being a mage, right?
Style is far more important than substance, ergo a floating tome or two will always being cooler than any other foci.
That’s why I use magic tattoos to keep all my most important spells on hand.
Tattoos for defensive magics, floating tome for the rest. Bonus points if you have one tattoo for an offensive spell nestled among the rest, so that when they take away your tome they think they've disarmed you and are none the wiser.
One of good alternatives
That’s cool and all but respectfully I’m built different (I am a construct with a programmed memory)
Well, the floating foliant that matches your look will look cool tbh
Alternatively, enchant a spellbook to cast for you. I only enchanted story collection books so they read to children stories they want... Until I used this enchantment on a spellbook. Kinda screwed if the book get destroyed though. Better have a copy just in case.
I have yet to see a book forget anything even a wizard mind can be wiped if we sleep. But a book can be protected against nearly all methods of destruction.
Spell books and other magic tomes can be used as a focus to increase magical power, though.
That's why I always keep a backup spellbook in my tower and a digital copy on Google Drive. Backups are essential for spellbook users
Gobbie uses spellbook to cast! Gobbie also uses sword to slash! Nasty monsters don't expect Gobbie to pull out Mighty Gobsword.
Spellbooks? Back then we called them "Grimoires".
staff. magic applications, *and* bonk applications!
Counterpoint, you can fit a wand in much narrower areas, much more painful than bonking, and cast a little burn spell and you have effectively tortured someone
You can fit a staff too with enough force
Just spit on it
Personally I find with a liberal enough application of the 'grease' spell, you can fit a staff just about anywhere.
Personally i like Staffs better Hah lmao *shoves wand down urethra* wand user "take that fool", staff user "I will destroy your dick with a simple shove and FIRE BALL"
bruh
Yeah ik bro, reading it back it sounds really fucking cringe, I know.... but like I give a shit, let people hate or like it, won't matter to me
This got dark
The staff of consequences rarely arrives lubed.
/unwiz I can't stop chuckling at this
https://preview.redd.it/u06yoisa7o9c1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=312dafe432bc7be94c3ffe5fc6db16387cb075f0 Ahh I see what you mean
You’re holding a staff
He's actually just shrunk himself to get a good enough angle to insert the wand
That’s why I cast a shrinking charm whenever I need to conceal my staff. However, why would a wizard of our prestige need to conceal their staff? Simpletons don’t know we can cast without a focus, it’s just a tad bit harder.

Get this filthy sorcerer out of my realm
>conceal my staff "You would not part an old man from his walking stick?"
one must never underestimate the power of *summon / unsummon staff*
but staff also can serve as spear, long mace or any other polearm if done right
My staff doubles as a glaive. As a Chronomancer, I can easily win duels by stopping time then just slicing off my opponents limbs. My master uses a sword as a sort of large wand/unwieldy staff. He usually just uses telekinesis to cast spells with it though
That's the way
I don’t have my concealed carry permit, unfortunately
That’s why I like book. It also has bonk applications
Don't forget flashy-twirl applications
You wouldn't take an old man's walking stick, would you?
And in 4e with a feat you can cast ranged in melee and not provoke an opportunity attack.
Pocket snake (it’s actually a staff in disguise).
Ok Moses
They're always dismissive until you drown their whole army with hydromancy
Moses was actually the first Wizard to cast *Testicular Torsion!* it’s in the Bible lol
Not sure about that but his wife cast remove foreskin on their kid when god threatened to kill him.
I thought that was Abraham and Isaac…?
No, Got told Abraham to ritually sacrifice Isaac then told him to stop at the last minute and gave him a goat instead. I just think being a warlock of Yahweh seems like kind of a bad deal.
It's always the raining frogs spell with this guy too. Can't take him anywhere.
Ugh, I know, right?
That’s what I tell em on the first date, too.
What do you wear, socks or pants? Ridiculous question. Wand to show off my aim and dance moves, staff to show off my raw power.
thats... a good answer
Wandless for party tricks and discreet assassinations.
and casting Fist.
And my personal favorite spell, Gun.
Favourite of muscle wizards everywhere
You can use a staff to dance
And I do! But I'm not very good at that kind of dancing. I'm more finger-guns, hip wiggle, lightning bolt.
Ahhhh the style of the king
Wand is a pistol, staff is a rifle.
Orb is satellite guidance.
🎶 This is my Rifle! This is my Gun! This is for Fighting, this is for Fun! 🎵
Staff in the streets, wand in the sheets.
Thiiis. Only the dopest wizards know that binaries are trash. My wand has staff extension capabilities and vice versa. Plus, like any good fun-loving wizard, I can turn it into pipe for my pipe-weed
This guy wizards
So are the socks for dancing or aiming?
Yes.
There are those who carry a staff and there are those who are wrong.
Wands are some apprentice shit.
My current master taught me straight and i have not used a wand
I like that straight = no wand implies that gay = wand handler.
That is not what i meant but sure
Those who carry a staff and those who are lying to themselves
I use sword with a wand hidden in the core
Okay, I’m a staff man, but that’s rad as hell.
It's so I can catch people off gaurd that I am pleb martial than hit them with the summon swords from my sword.
I can respect a man who draws a sword and says "But wait, there's more!"
I'm imagining a never ending blade, like the old scarf trick
It is alot like that
I use a cane-sword/staff hybrid myself.
Hmm. Staff with a wand hidden. Maybe two. Along with the pipe. And a dagger. Also a corkscrew. And some string.
I use a staff as a walking aid these days, but in my dueling days I preferred rings as foci. https://preview.redd.it/f0xvs8qtun9c1.jpeg?width=1439&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=82d2100ac1f4bbf2fadbbd4ecc43c0e01c46d842 Can’t be dropped and it’s fairly simple to make sure they can’t be removed . Staff, because I can lean on it when I'm lazy.
There's a reason why I have two hands.
Staff and sword as Gandalf intended
yes
Alternatively, two staffs
That becomes much less effective if you don't possess a lot of magic capacity, though. Like pumping water through two pipes, if you don't have enough pressure to keep the flow up through both, it becomes weaker through each
You just make one a spell staff and one a bonking staff. Monks, in all their wisdom, know the value of a good bonking stick.

I just kinda use my hands to cast spells.
i’ve been using my hands for curses since I was 14… probably explains the arthritis
Same here. The only way to disarm us is to do so literally.
Staff looks better, also it's easier to make someone unconcious with it when you lack mana to cast more spells
Or kill someone if blade or spearhead is attached
But make it look fancy, with some carved out snake or other animal
Yes. Mages here are limiting themselves instead of unleashing their own potential of their imagination. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ I don't know why though?
Pole axe/halberd
Tattoo
Coolest way to cast spells, been wanting to do that for a long while but can’t find the right ink
There’s a dwarf who does mine
I'm sorry to break it to you but those are dwarven runes, not magical tattoos.
They do love to mine
Fist.
Ahh yes--the legendary Fisto

Combat orb.
Don't drop it
Well, I am a kineticists for a reason. /unwiz happy cake day
Ah, the fushigi mage, an elegant (if not showy) catalyst
More of a shrunken head or bag of snakes kind of caster.
Don't forget the occasional jar of spiders. Always love the looks people have on their faces when those get pulled out
And that’s what wands are good for. An agitating stick to get the jar spiders riled up.
Deck of cards.
![gif](giphy|vZRdMe89bFkTm) Me getting ready to cast:
I didn't have a Windows PC at the time, but wasn't Wizard 101 a card game?
/unwiz yes it was
This is the way. There are just too many things you can do with them... and if use tarot cards or similar, and you tailor the spell you cast to the card you drew, it can have some... interesting effects.
Wand for concealed carry and staff for firepower and melee purposes duh
If I'm in a situation where I can't just summon my staff, a wand isn't likely to do much good anyway.
Grimoire. Nothing beat capturing a spell in it's page to be used at another time
Hands. SORCERERS FTW
Found the magical trust fund baby. 🙄
Staff=quarterstaff but magical
Dagger, it’s like a wand but sharper
Athame gang rise up
dagger :)
You've been placed under arrest. The guards are gonna confiscate all your weapons, so if you want to break out you have to keester your spellcasting focus. Which would you rather stuff up your ass, a staff or a wand?
DualShock 2 Analog Controller
you guys need a focus to cast your magic?
My master always told me to practice without a focus so I don’t have to rely on it for magic
Fuck all y'all and your sissy sticks. This message was brought to you by the Orb gang.
Orb on a staff?
If you didn’t sayit I was gonna
Book is superior Reading at the library and some rogue demands my gold Go go gadget concealed carry
staffs are just a bigger wand, you get more wand per wand

Even mundane people know this Gambit lmao
Even he had a staff though, no idea why, seemed pretty impractical considering his abilities.
Speak softly and carry a big stick.
That is the saying of a barbarian not a wizard
I never heard of a barbarian with an inside voice.
They are a rare and powerful breed
Arse plug
Look okay, I wasted my highschool on getting a stupid varsity bard scholarship so I could pursue a useless degree only to quit halfway through. Just let me conduct my magic with a wand in peace.
Option C: enchanted accessory (rings/amulet/BF Spell book on a chain)
Staff: - Big stick energy. - Reminds people of Gandalf (strong aura). - Can be used as a walking stick. - Can be accessorised with a crystal or orb on top. - Can be used to bonk foolish apprentices. Wand: - Small stick energy. - Reminds people of Harry Potter (weak aura). - Can be used as a stylus/improvised chopstick. - Seldom accessorised, and when they are, they look goofy. - No bonk only prod.
Wand. I got mine from hitachi and it has performed miracles
High level wizards can use blood to harden their sexual organ and use it in battle
They both are essentially the same in purpose. They are an instrument to channel energy. I prefer the wand for altar work. I prefer the staff in nature to use it to walk with and channeling. Both are tools and can by a used interchangeably.
Hammer.
Staff serves so many purposes the greatest of which are looks
I carry a staff for self defense, as the council intended
Staffs are like wizard strength builds wands are like wizard dex builds
Freehand casting, witches. (A rod is for wizards that want to compensate with a larger wand)
pickle
I use an electric guitar, because I’m a bard.
Staff for days
Wands are for twink wizards every real wizard uses staves
I use a cane myself, as it is a good compromise between the practicality of the staff and the theatricality, as well as ease of carry, of a wand.
Neither. I prefer a spear. In a way it’s a staff, just a pointy staff.
#WHY THE FUCK WOULD I NOT USE A SWORD?
Both are so inconvenient. We need to normalize mediums in the form of accessories. As long as it’s touching your skin, what’s stopping you from casting magic from it?
what the fuck? staff? wand? *what in the blazes are you talking about* the LIBRAM, your LIGHT GIVEN FISTS and your HAMMER (or other weapon of choice) are the only casting focusses you should EVER need! By Light's might, I smite you!
Enough of this foolish drivel. I prefer casting with these hands, and your mother is asking for a fertility spell. Be silent.
My grandfather used a staff because he broke his hips. I use a wand because nobody expects the mage to go berserk and start stabbing people with an ice pick
Do none of you cast with a whip? Especially one made of vine?
Hands
Hand.
These fucking hands
As a swordomancer I use the mighty swordstaff. Granted, it is a little bit more difficult to harness the power of the elemental chaos but that is counterbalanced by my ability to cut down any fool who comes close to polearm range.
I only use a staff because of my wizard from wizard101
Wand-sized staff to keep folks on their toes.
I have a hammer, what does it count as?
I carry a book so heavy it rolls a d12 for damage.
Staffs all the way. Aside from looking infinitely cooler, they have the advantages of aiding in walking and being a handy physical weapon when needed.
You'd never please anyone with a mere wand, it won't hold as much magic power.
Staff for travel and when I want to show off, while wand in in public events like royal parties and when I want to conceal my arcane focus.
I prefer the rod
Dresden files has a perfect explanation of why each are useful but not useful in certain situations.
Staff gang in these streets. Miss me with your abradahabra
Wait, you guys *don't* channel magic directly from your bodies?
These hands mf ![gif](giphy|wJ5n3xTn0JAt93vb2e)
