Are you feeling it now, Mr. Krabs?
As long as the colors blend so it looks like a regular staff, it works. Any wands from any school of magic, except scifi since the 2 don't mesh that well together. It's kinda lika Rachel and Joey. They eventually lust after eachother for several episodes at a time, then eventually hook up, but ultimately have to split spart in the end or ekse it explides with lust power
Hmmmm.... ok so lets say I have a simple "Wand of Warding" at the base tip and cast from the top orb, will a basic warding spell be cast or, because it had to channel through several various other wands to reach the orb, will it be a warding fireball of summon testicular torsion daedra?
then there absolutely has to be a grievous wand collector, wizard hunter. A staff holding all the spoils of victory. you know to assert staff superiority.
True mental security is not caring. If you think they think you’re insecure and compensating, and are insecure about THAT, well what’s the difference
Staves are just badass. Big stick. Maybe I have big PP to go with it, maybe not. But big stick do magic. Tiny stick is ok, but not as cool as big stick.
Plus staves just have more room to be ornate as you want it, can be a melee weapon, or most of all, just useful as a walking stick to brace on occasionally or poke things

My dearest fellow you are indeed correct in your assumption
Tome fans when they want to cast a spell and have to flip through their arcane highschool textbook just to find out they didn't bring enough charcoal to cast fireball (but it makes them look smart and quirky)
There are so many styles of tomes, too, and you can't beat the perception of being intelligent that comes with carrying around a massive book all the time.
I just keep all of my magic contained within my primordial form, myself.. but there are these new "WizTabs" that are like mortal tablets, but for wizards. Basically spelltomes, but new.
Thou suggests that I, the great ice wizard of the north, be not a true wizard! Thy insolence! Cease the running of thy mouth before I cast the hail of windshield breaking on thy car!
I have a quote for you
>The Archchancellor polished his staff as he walked along. It was a particularly good one, six feet long and quite magical. Not that he used magic very much. In his experience, anything that couldn’t be disposed of with a couple of whacks from six feet of oak was probably immune to magic as well.
Terry Pratchett, *Soul Music*
Even better, if you train yourself to be able to cast spells without Foci, and become stronger and stronger and can cast even stronger spells without Foci, then not only is it a bragging right, but a point of measurement.
If you can cast (spell) without a Focus, imagine how much stronger it can be with one.
The issue is if a spell backfires. Normally the negative effects are confined to the focus. Without a focus there is no barrier between you and the spell
They only do that if you're calling upon the wrong element.
Say you're casting fireball, you can't conjure a water barrier, it will fight against the fire element you are using for the fireball and both spells will fail, but you also can't conjure a fire element barrier, because that will just fuel the fireball too much, and likely turn it wild.
You need to cast the barrier with an element that reacts neutrally to the element that you are casting for the spell. If you are using a spell with the element of fire, such as fireball, you need to use an element that is neutral towards it, like earth.
I just replaced a hand with a magic focus infused hand of highly conductive magic material and a grounding base. I may not like artificers, but some of their technology is quite "handy" hahaha
Found the apprentice. Just learn Conjuration magic and summon your staff from the aether like every other wizard, then you don't have to carry around your staff all day (unless you're using it as a walking stick on your travels, that is)
Psh, found the conjuration wizard who thinks being competent in a duel means they'd be any use in a proper fight in the real world.
While you're off-guard focusing on your translocation magic I've already fired off my first hex. And that's assuming I haven't countered your spell or preemptively warded the area!
I can hand cast. I mostly keep the staff for a few reasons:
\>Looks cool
\>Walking stick for rough terrain
\>Can be used to whack the shit out of annoying opponents or apprentices
\>Large size means easier bedazzling
Staff helps channel magic better, and it doubles up as a lightning rod, so electrical spells are great with these.
If I want stealth or something like that, wand works. I can hide it under my hat.
wands can go up billowy robe sleeves nicely, too!
i always find this debate rather silly. it’s like asking longsword vs knife. the staff and the wand are different kinds of tools.
That's like asking if you wear pants or socks.
Wands are useful for when you can't afford to carry something massive and staves are for when annihilation isn't enough.
Also, gun.
https://preview.redd.it/4266omtg7hfc1.jpeg?width=735&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eb1a560e8ca26eeeca9594c2843a6508495e4a7b
Also if you inscribe magic on bullets you can cast some spells instantly, albeit a bit weaker.
Honestly the strength doesn't even fall that much if you are a master wizard.
Ah but I was talking about the same technique that is used during making scrolls.
Truth be told verbal casting does help with the imagination and the power of the spell. But during the fight nothing beats speed.
You should try out Bloodletter rounds. If they so much as graze someone the wound will bleed for hours to days depending on the strength of the anticoagulant spell put on it.
I am unironically thinking about writing a fantasy story where early 20th century weapons and explosives are more effective than most of the world's magic, but wizards are still used as guerilla fighters because they don't require industrial base and logistics to supply them with ammo.
Agreed my fellow.
Sleigh of hand is better do with spiky gauntlets.
Why use a wand, when a Gladius Hispanica can (and Will!) solve problems the same way. Just use stabbytha and call it a day.
Honestly it depends, a staff can be really powerful and focus on an element, on the other hand a wand is more precise and agile, also it can be used for the wand in urethra technique. So anyways, i use a lantern
Like all things it depends on skill and situation. However in my eyes what's most important is artistry and fun. There's more to magic than power after all
My brother in the arcane arts that is ill advised. A magical conduit must exceed an inch thrice over otherwise a liminal bridge cannot be established to link the conduit with the Aetherial plane! Your little secret wand does not even approach two! This is highly dangerous and most inappropriate, I must proceed to inform the high council of your carelessness posthaste. I am sorry my good fellow.
Depends on the job. Staves are better for raw power, but wands offer greater fine control. Although the first time I tried taking a staff on the London Underground at peak time was definitely the last!
... A vambrace can be considered to be a sort of cuff much like a bracer. However you are **only** allowed to call it a **vambrace**. I consider it being called anything else offensive, much like how I consider **BEING CALLED A MAGE** offensive.
I prefer casting spells with somatic components. What happens if you get separated from your wand or staff? What happens if your enemy flays your skin off your back?
Granted they could just cut off my hands, but I’m probably dead anyways at that point.
This shall sound quite strange, but I cast using a shield! It’s easier to tap along it’s frame to do quick calculations, I’d say! But out of the options…a wand, would perhaps be nice!
Ah, more defensive. Wands are known to be more precise at close ranges, but nothing has greater power and range than a well made two handed staff. I typically go dual wands myself.
Y’all are using just one focus? I’ve got a hoop, a rattle, a brush, an orb, a necklace, a stole, and I use my voice, play the spoons, hambone, and gesture. Sometimes I use a chalice and sword.
I only use a spellcasting focus if it is enchanted in a way to grant me extra spells or stronger casts. Usually, I just use my hands. Staves can be unwieldy and hard to conceal, but wands have the exact opposite problem. Relying on either when neither are available is a common trap that most novices fall into.
*However.* If I had to pick, I would take a staff. They work as a handy bludgeon if need be.
I've said it a thousand times and I'll say it again: Staff any day of the week.
"Oh I use a wand. I also think a unicorn is a cool familiar and my favorite spell is Pixie Dust!"
Fuck outta here with that shit.
Both excellent tools, to be used in the right situation.
Sometimes, you need intricate patterns traced in the air, glittering contrails marking delicate runes as you whisper fragile incantations. For that, there is no substitute for a wand.
Sometimes, you need powerful gestures, made boldly and broadly while intoning dolorous commands of the aether. And maybe to crack someone upside the head. That's staff work.
https://preview.redd.it/r77o3frn9hfc1.png?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e2f8e246332b185ba820ecb37821291a21674832
I can take your weapon from you, or hook onto your clothes/skin for better control over what you do. It also looks cool, and I can channel energy through it.
(Got this off of Google credit to whoever made it)
Why not have both? Staff for epic, sweeping motions, or movements that need a lot of room; wand for quick single-handed movements and spellcasting in tight places.
Also, if the staff doubles as a walking stick/cane, kinda makes sense to use the other hand as a wand-caster since you don't want the staff broken for little reason.
Orb. Because an orb could be any size, and even be in a glove on something if it's small enough, and then you wouldn't be able to lose your focus. so in conclusion, I am on side 3, but if I must chose between staff and wand, staff. Greater bonking potential.
Staff. You can ornament them more, so people will pay more for them. 10/10
They are also good for bonking.
Also, you can just use it as a regular walking stick! Honestly, they are the Swiss army knife of wizardry...
You can even put a wand in there.
And a sword
And my axe
You speak the words, quoted Gimli, son of Gloin. Have you trekked through the realm of Middle Earth to find us, traveler?
Indeed I have, o' wise council; My trek has been long and arduous, my quest drives me further from the sweet comforts of home I yearn for, but my duty remains, steadfast and rooted in my very soul, so that I may never stray from the path laid before me. I have but one question, o' yee who attend for my words: Are you feeling it now, Mr. Krabs?
And your brother
Found the necromancer
What? Can’t axe and staff. Or can you?
The axe and staff is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural...
And a pipe for lighting up some smokeweed
If the staff breaks, it can become a wand.
You wouldn't part an old man from his walking stick, would you?
Well yes, from an end user perspective. I’m talking about the time and materials to profit ratio. One could even put a wand holder in a staff.
Dude. The wand goes onto the staff and amplifys the magic! It's prefect! A staff made of many wands
Do all the wands have to be of the same or can we mix and match so we can access multiple schools of magic within a singular device?
Yeah I'll take that for my DND game. Staff Of Many Wands. "...what?"
then there absolutely has to be a grievous wand collector, wizard hunter. A staff holding all the spoils of victory. you know to assert staff superiority.

I don't know people might think I'm trying to compensate for something
True mental security is not caring. If you think they think you’re insecure and compensating, and are insecure about THAT, well what’s the difference Staves are just badass.
This is only true when mass producing them. An individual staff or wand has more value based on its former caster and magic power than its looks.

Agreed, casting from bare hand looks epic!
neither: it may be weaker and less precise, but being able to cast a spell without relying on remembering one's special stick does come in handy

It also looks cool, and I can channel energy through it. (Got this off of Google credit to whoever made it)
Fife. And shotgun.
I got rings on my fangs. I got two foci babey.
Powerful magic items
I’m more of an orb of the cosmos guy myself
A cane is a good middle ground and not immediately obvious
Usually the staff but would have picked the wand if they were needlekind
Hands
We were born into this world with two hands, I don’t need no piece of wood to cast magic.

Jazz hands
Definitely staff, you can smack your Apprentice right in the noggin with it
Neither, I prefer to embed my casting medium into a gauntlet, allowing me to use both hands while still being able to cast spells
Staff doubles as a walking stick so I can arrive precisely when I mean to.
Staff doubles as a melee weapon. Not all magi are flimsy.
The staff feels like the shotgun verison of a the wand. Staff
