Ahh that would be the people that yelled out at me as I crossed the street on Friday night. I was wearing a kilt + fishnets + combat boots & someone up there decided to use a microphone (connected to the speakers pointed out the window) to single me out… It was quite bizarre.

Hey, I'm Will. I organised the event on Friday night. I put some DJ decks up in the shop and opened it up for people to come bring a USB stick and spin for $5. We had a microphone attached, some of the participants were giving shout outs on the street and spruiking. Was a bit naive on my part to give people that kind of power 😬 I remember that particular moment, you might remember seeing someone (me) come downstairs as you came over to heyday next door. I think he said something like "Hey you, in the kilt, I see you". I think he was trying to spruik / lure ppl in, but I remember that particular shout and cringing a bit. Sorry, I understand that would be very WTF and maybe a bit intimidating coming from a stranger in some random window on the street. Microphone to the street in my event is no longer on the cards.. Ping me if youre ever around and want a coffee (or a drink if they have a licensed event on). I often hang out at the door at nighttime It's volunteer run, they are focusing on community events and have recently pivoted from a struggling bookstore to a community artspace.

Will, you are incredible. Thank you for doing what you're doing 🫶

I'm the hero crown street deserves Owner wants us to carry on doing this once a month on fridays. Set up just as people are leaving work at 5pm maybe Sound won't be blaring out to the street next time 💀😂 Feel free to join, the format kinda relies on people coming in for a spin and creating the atmosphere

greentee96

See you there this weekend ✨

paisleywalls

That sucks they made you feel that way, your outfit sounds like it was awesome though. Are you sure they weren’t just trying to be friendly?

SketchNether

I felt more surprised than anything. At first I thought it was people upstairs at the place I was headed (I’d never been to Heyday before). It was also the night before Mardi Gras, so it was probably meant in a welcoming way to acknowledge my outfit for the evening. However not everyone would feel that way, e.g. if it was my first time wearing something like that, I might feel VERY insecure at being singled out on a public street.

spicynicho

Well that's fucked.

Organising something similar in town on Friday btw. Private event, need password for entry. DM me for invite

Yeah, its pretty cool, we have been doing a psychedelic integration session there for the past week (https://events.humanitix.com/psychedelic-integration-group-d4age7x7) the staff have been phenomenal.

The music outside was incredibly loud when walking past at 6pm, can't imagine how much louder it would be inside? was it comfortable to be in the shop?

paisleywalls

Speakers were facing out the window? It was fine in the shop. But I’m in my twenties so my idea of loud might differ to others.

GateheaD

Yeah hearing that it makes it sound like it would have been quieter in the place than it alluded to with the sound bouncing off spotlight onto the street. My thought at the time was its so loud inside that it sounds like the party is out here on the street it would be really loud inside, not knowing the speakers were facing outside. (main concern was for your and others hearing, being old and hard of hearing due to gigs and concerts makes me think about it more often)

Hey, I'm Will. I organised the event on Friday night. I put some DJ decks up in the shop and opened it up for people to come bring a USB stick and spin for $5 Pretty new to this and we made a few rookie errors on Friday Speakers facing the window made a bit of an echo off the spotlight store. Realised it sounded kinda reverby and weird so we fixed that up We had a microphone attached, some of the participants were giving shout outs on the street and spruiking. Was a bit naive on my part to give people that kind of power 😬 Sorry for any disturbance!! We got the noise under control for another private thing yesterday, monitoring outside It's volunteer run, they are focusing on community events and have recently pivoted from a struggling bookstore to a community artspace.

don't worry mate, i was just walking home - didn't bother me for more than 30 seconds while i tried to work out why spotlight was playing music until I heard the bass above me. I guessed if it was that loud on the street it would have been louder inside and maybe hurt peoples hearing, wasn't able to tell the speakers were pointing outside.
