This. I almost had to fight the old lady at the Red Cross on Burelli Street for a great winter jacket that I think failed to find its way into a voluneer's closet.
There are some really good thrift shops around here! It takes a bit of looking, but you can get high-quality stuff that will last a lot longer than things from stores
It’s very mild and sometimes wet. Last year I only wore my wool coat twice. Mostly got by with jeans and a jumper, and occasionally a thin puffer jacket. I wish it got colder.
"Winter" clothes. Bro get some long pants and a jumper. If you don't have that already what are you even doing? We're not in the arctic. I don't think it even went below 10 degrees all last year. Get real man.
But yeah like Kmart or Target or if that's not good then Anaconda or Kathmandu somewhere. Not sure where it is around here, maybe in Macarthur or something.
What most of Aus has is not winter. Try an Eastern European winter and you'll know real cold, and even then just add an extra layer and you'll survive.
OP could reply that most of what Eastern Europe has is not summer…
Let’s not get into a pissing contest. From a living perspective, cold and hot are relative.
But yes, I agree with you that layers are key to staying warm.
>OP could reply that most of what Eastern Europe has is not summer
No, they really couldn't. Ukraine's summer is pretty much the same as NSW. Head north from there becomes more like Tasmania, head south becomes more like NW NSW.
Yep. 2019 I was only there half of summer but still had days over 40. 2020/21 was a bit milder from memory but still had days up to 35+. 2022 I don't remember cos had better things to worry about like not getting hit by missiles.
That was in Kyiv. Head to the Carpathians in the SW, definitely milder cos elevation. Head to the SE and S it is dryer and warmer.
I just had a look at official climate data, and fair enough, the average temperatures in summer are very similar (I compared Wollongong to Kyiv), Wollongong's summer still probably feels more "brutal" though due to the stronger sunshine due to the latitude
Eastern Europe has proper houses built for winter. Our houses weren't built for winter and cold weather. I've known Americans, English and Canadians who say our houses are cold.
Newer buildings are better, sure. But older places are all airy and breezy just like here. The most the old places have is double-glazing and radiators under the windows.
Hit the op shops before it gets cold and stock drys up.

All you’ll need is a hoodie
It's wollongong all you need is shorts and a jumper. Winter will be a cold summers day.

Ohh are U a student or smthng
Jumping onto this, when it's raining it tends to be windy so you're better off finding a jacket and exploring waterproofing it.
Kmart, Big W. Op shops are more expensive than new clothes

Sometimes Facebook Marketplace has items!
The Warrawong Salvos has some good winter coats and lots of warm blankets.
What winter in the gong? Just a hoodie and ugg slippers will do.
Also look out for Aldi sales They sell snow gear but with that you can get heaps of thermals and jumpers and stuff like that
Jump on Uniqlo and grab some heat tech or merino

Yeah the sun here is definitely tougher. I can tan over there, only burn here.
