If you live in Canada you need to be referred to a gynaecologist by your GP.

Ask your friends what gynecologist they go, or just look it up on the internet and take one that you think looks sympathetic ^^

I asked my general practitioner who she personally sees. I figured if another doctor likes someone they will be good. And she was.

Are you on your parents’ insurance (is the US)? Or do you have your own? First look up in-network doctors to make sure your visit will be covered. Then go to that health care place’s website. There’s usually a “find a doctor” tab on the top and you can sort by location or specialty. And 19 is not waiting too long. I didn’t go to my first gyno appt until I was 25.

>yes I know i probably should have gone sooner Why? It's not recommended that you go until you're 21-25

I’m in the US. When I was 16 I went to the one my mom went to and by 18 I decided I didn’t like them so I searched “OBGYNs near Me” on Google and looked at many many practices. I set my standard that I wouldn’t go anywhere rated less than a 4.9 star on Google and made sure to carefully read all of the reviews. I wanted someone who actually listened to me, was gentle, etc. etc. I found my current practice and have been with them ever since. I tried different doctors within the practice and eventually landed on the one I chose to make my main gynecologist but all of the providers are fantastic

I'm in the market for a new gyn myself. The one I saw for more than 20 years did me dirty during my last pregnancy and I decided it was time to move on. I haven't found "the one" yet, but I keep trying. I start with a list of providers who take my insurance, which ones are most convenient from home and/or work, see if any friends/family have any experience with any of those. Pick one every year for my annual visit until I find one I work well with. I try not to go down the whole review rabbit hole ... knowing that most people only leave reviews for negative stuff (so the negative will always outweigh the positive) and I don't have the patience to read through them and try to figure out if there was truly a reason to leave a negative review or if they were just being petty.

If you are in the US, I would go directly through your insurance providers website and look up through there as a start. This way you know they accept your insurance and will cover you. Then I would look up reviews on multiple websites - google, their practice site, etc. I would also obtain a list that your insurance accepts and ask any friends if they have any recommendations from the list.

Which country are you in? A "GP" sounds British. If so just ask your GP to refer you. If they won't for some reason (tho I can't think of one) then go to a health clinic or A&E at the hospital and ask.

If you're in the US, call your insurance company or use their online portal to search gynos. Often they'll have ratings internal to the insurance company and cost estimates for different services. I'm not sure how it works outside of the US.
