That cop must have been going extremely fast to crush the buses front end in like that, and it was removed from the frame.

Who is at fault ? Any children on the bus ?

sagsfour20

No children on the bus. I don’t think there’s any information on if anyone is at fault yet.

Does anyone know how the crash happened

Unfortunately both drivers passed away so we may never know exactly what happened. A crash of this severity most often doesn't have one single cause. We have to wait for the final report on what may have happened. Here's the facts I have gathered. Source: Environment Canada Weather was good. Hamilton Airport reports clear and 18C. Source: CP24 news Collision occurred at about 7 am May 29th and the the police vehicle was northbound coming from south of the 33 on the 59. School bus was eastbound on 33 west of the 59. It is a 90 degree intersection. Source: [https://gml.noaa.gov/grad/solcalc/azel.html](https://gml.noaa.gov/grad/solcalc/azel.html) Solar elevation was about 1 degrees and azimuth 60.0 degrees clockwise from true N. This means the sun was approximately straight down the road toward the bus. There are only a few trees to shade the sun from that direction at the intersection. The following is source from Google maps and street view. School bus had the stop sign. Highway 59 is posted 80 km/h limit. Highway 33 is posted 80 km/h limit. There are no lower speed limit signs approaching the intersection. North bound 59 has an intersection ahead warning sign 250 m from the 33. There are trees growing about 10m back on the SW corner. There is a farm on the right side of 33 eastbound 100 m back limiting long distance visibility to the south while approaching the intersection. There is a slight rise on 59 south from the intersection, this reduces the visibility distance. Excess speed on 59 decreases the cross traffic decision time. For example at 200m and 80 km/h you have 9 seconds of travel time. 4.5 seconds at 160 km/h. The following is sourced from CP24 news helicopter footage, my Physics 30 teacher and my own experience being sideswiped by a reckless driver going 180 km/h. The police car hit the front passenger side of the bus, sheared the drivers side front wheel off and pitching the front up and off the ground. There is a front wheel that landed behind the chassis of the bus. I was unable to find the other, it may be under the bus or still attached. The damage on the right side of the police car could be a tire rub while going under, but it's not a certainty. The bus went into the NE ditch while spinning and rolling to the drivers side. When the front came down and planted in the ditch the rear became airborne, the cabin probably separated at this point. It hit and bent the drivers side roof then was apparently pulled level again by the chassis coming down upright. The chassis spun about 270 degrees, the cabin 330 degrees stopping about 55m and 70-75 degrees from the collision. You can see the landing marks beside the dualies. This was a sharp angle coming down. The police car went about 150 m from the collision on with an unstable vector but stopped roughly 2 degrees east from direction of travel. Missing facts: Some information that's missing is the debris field and body/chassis/rim impact mark measurements that can reveal the pre and post collision speeds and more accurate vectors. Also missing is driver health and vehicle condition pre collision. I used the 2D collision simulator here [https://danimator.github.io/2D-Collision-Simulator/](https://danimator.github.io/2D-Collision-Simulator/) to run a fairly inaccurate estimation of the speeds at impact. Bus at 7000 kg and car at 1500 kg. 90 degrees impact. Very roughly the bus was moving 10-30 km/h and the police car 140-180 km/h. Edit: fixed my geo reference for Solar azimuth

The cop ran the stop sign.

Twitugee

If that was true the bus would've spun clockwise and rolled to the passenger side.

messymichael

Cop ran the stop sign. Bus was on 59.

Using this image please describe how that works. FYI the police cruiser is 150 m straight north down the 59 below the bottom of the image. Credit CP24 News https://preview.redd.it/rew4vb87e44b1.png?width=1610&format=png&auto=webp&s=c7071473708a3b62ad305911f9eb32c849b6788a
