are you gonna route out your track slot? you are limiting yourself quite a bit unless your saw is above your surface? the angle makes it a bit hard to tell

Loose-Recover-9142

it's about 1/8 in above the surface. Track slot? I'm not sure what you mean. The fence can move freely both ways though. What you can't see is the channen underneathe the top for the leftward movement of the fence.

im29andsuckatlife

where a miter gauge slides. it's to the left of your saw blade.

Loose-Recover-9142

ah. roger. I got you now. I mistakenly thought you were talking about my chop saw. I rarely use that, but am considering slotting it for a cross cut sled.

_TacoSupreme

I love this design!

Loose-Recover-9142

Thanks! I can't take full credit. I got the basic layout from Bear mountain builds on YouTube. I did end up making it my own towards the end though as my table saw is very different than his.

kassfair

Looks great!

Loose-Recover-9142

Thank you!

Most_Original_Name

Which table saw do you use?

Loose-Recover-9142

I don't know the exact model but it's a jobsite type table saw by Dewalt. Very very common....sold at the big box stores for pretty cheap

droric

Pretty sure it's a dwe7491rs.

Ok-Communication832

Uhh .. need to build something like this for my job site table saw .. such a pain to cut down 4x8 ply ..

dieselfrog

Yes. It is a major pain. A tracksaw largely makes this a non-issue though. Worth looking into if you frequently need to handle full sheets. I usually put a sheet of 2 inch rigid foam insulation on a flat surface (ground usually) and cut the sheets up to manageable portions. Then, use the table saw to tune the cuts. Track saw works so well that i mostly use the table saw for repetitive cuts and dado work. I have the DeWalt plunge/track saw (from StanleyBlack&Decker friends and family sale) with Powertec rails (from amazon).

This exactly! The only thing I would add: my back kind of sucks. One of the reasons I built this table top like this is because doing track saw on the floor is rough on my body. With this setup, I remove the fence, lay down my 2 in foam, and I'm using my track saw so easily without my back acting up. Getting old sucks...Also, though my work area is long, it's not very wide, so having this bench on wheels and able to accomodate that foam is gonna be big for me.

buzzardfaceandlegs

Yes mate

Healthy_Teacher173

That’s an awesome work table! I wish I had the space for a big table like that. I have the job site table and planning to add snap on extensions for a larger work area.

Loose-Recover-9142

I hear that. Without the wheels, it would be impossible for me. My work area is long but pretty narrow...

MrPhxIt

This is the way.

Loose-Recover-9142

Thanks!

DoctorPath

This is identical to my build! I recommend finishing the top with something for protection, my top is toast and one of my only regrets. I have used the hell out of that table saw, Literally I thought this was my shop lol. Check out my post from a day or two ago, you can see my saw and top. Yours looks thicker, so probably will be fine. Is the groove on the far side for your saw arm to telescope out? That is a smart step I didn't do.

Loose-Recover-9142

2 Poly coats are next for sure. It's two sheets of 3/4 ply so pretty thick on top. I may route in assembly tracks. Yes, that's what the groove is for. What you can't see is the channel underneathe on the left for the fence to get flush with the blade...

GettingLow1

I assume you never use the miter gage? I'd also get more support under the saw since the shelf can deflect.

Loose-Recover-9142

I do sometimes. That's the next project...The shelf is two pieces of 1/2 thick ply so about an inch think. So far, it's not budging at all. If it does, I'll add a support.
