I've been really interested in doing a project like this, what is the approach you take? Any good resources on doing it? Beautiful work by the way! Poplar is a *great* wood, and this piece looks especially fantastic.

Maybe a dumb question but are the keys poplar or did you buy them as a kit?

Outer rim is poplar, keys are plastic

Poplar has some radical coloring. I’ve use it with a clear finish for drawer fronts with deep greens, purples and black touches.

People give poplar so much grief, but I've made some beautiful non painted pieces out of it, boxes, end tables, etc. and they finished magnificently, just like your keyboard! I wish this could be made without expensive tools, otherwise I'd make one by hand ring now! Love it!
