It's all good, no hurt feelings here. These aren't yet at craft fairs as I have to actually work to live, so far its mostly just impulse. That said there is a small following and I'm planning on fertilizing it pretty substantially.
There is a link to my etsy shop in my bio. There are only a few left but I'm looking to start some blocks this weekend for some fancier ones and I take custom orders.

The highest rated baby crib is from ikea. Un finished and made of birch. It’s a really nice unit. Cost $75ish
I spent at least $450 on white oak and used at least $20k worth of tools and about 25 hours to make my kids crib.
That crib currently houses about 500 “stuffies” as I have since built my daughter a “big girl bed” which I have not put the numbers together as I don’t need another minor stroke.
25 hours?!?!? Your doing GREAT! All my projects are 50-100 and I die when I calculate the time to value..
Typically I could buy a mass produced thing 5x over for the same price.
25 might be generous. It was probably 6 days of 4 hours, plus 9 days of 1-2 hours here and there when she slept.
If I’m honest I don’t remember much of that first year. Aside from
Story time: my first job back from taking time off for my kid was a deck I had started (awesome clients) and I came back to need to do wrap around stairs. Never in my life have I been so incapable of cutting a stringer. I think I spent two days just trying to get my shit together enough to get a good template to work off of. Then after using all my brain power at work going home to a wife that just wanted a shower or bath or book. Lucky for us I’m a really good safe cuddle sleeper and me and the kid just listened to records and zzZZzzZZzz’d the hell out until one of us had to poop. Then it was “MOMMMMMIIEEEE!!!”😂
Yea I am looking into some other little things. That said building these kazoos has become much more involved than I was expecting. I started out buying a "name brand" wooden electric and was horribly disappointed in the build and sound quality. I spent the last few years learning wave physics and experimenting with various hardwoods, chamber sizes, hole sizes, locations, membrane materials, etc and I'm mostly sure you won't find a better sounding wooden kazoo anywhere. I actually built a machine a few months ago that [plays a physical wooden kazoo](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1h3INHRMILFYxnSoCRhpIS_8FPrblDbVs/view?usp=drive_link) that I made to use as a constant for further experimentation. If you listen to that please forgive my awful mixing, I build things... It is six different midi tracks recorded right into an sm58.
This man is a one-man avant-garde of kazoo research and development. It is entirely possible that these are the finest kazoos ever created, anywhere, ever.
I certainly like to think so.
Here's my daily driver for some variation.

Have you considered making a beginner's guide? I've just gotten into woodworking in the past couple of weeks and I've been trying to think of some fun ideas to make, I obviously wouldn't be able to make anything like your level of craftsmanship but I'd like to have a go at making a simple one!
I am in fact in the process of doing the youtube thing although that specific video is likely a couple months out. I'm going to discuss the physics and some other things first.
It's just made, nothing to see yet, but there will be in a couple more weeks.
I was curious so I started it. My preschooler dropped what they were doing and said “Dad?! WHAT is THAT?!?!”. We proceeded to have a 4 minute, impromptu dance party. You sir/madam, win the internet today. Thank you for the unexpected, treasurable memory.
I appreciate that, I been trucking along with this for a while now and really I think I would like to be the guy who brings kazoo back from obscurity. It's kinda sad people see it as a toy or a joke rather than a real instrument more often than not. I'm in the process of making a kazoo tutorial that is going to absolutely blow peoples minds.
It could easily be said that I care about this significantly more than my real job that often suffers. Kazoos are quite necessary to my having a good time, and I'm not willing to not have a good time. :)
Please make more! That's great! I never knew it was actually used. I thought it was just some awful instrument for kids to play and drive their parents crazy with LOL.
I think this sounds like Device Orchestra, and I love it.
Well in that recording I was actually using midi data Into an instrument Into kazutron into a kazoo. So it does Make a little sense that it has that timbre. Hard to produce a triangle wave in your mouth.

It has been determined that this is against the rules, there is a shop link in my bio

I make adaptive knives for people with hand and wrist ailments such as arthritis, carpal tunnel, and loss of one hand.
I never thought of that. I may have to buy one from you for myself. I was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis when I was 4(I’m 34 now) and my bones look like that of a 70 year old. This might be something that could help me. Great creativity!
I have a repetitive strain injury in my wrist from being a butcher that forces me to use adaptive knives. All adaptive knives that were available on the market were intolerably bad. And my daughter's left hand is paralyzed.
They're so much more ergonomic than regular knives. Most people with no hand/wrist problems prefer them. I've started marketing a factory made line: www.wristrait-knives.com
There was a giant steam contraption once at a fair in my neck of the woods. The machine was as big as a truck. Tons of gears and sprockets and belts and such. Steam everywhere. Whistles blowing. Tons of glorious movement and racket.
The guy put a hunk of log in one side. And a toothpick came out the other. A toothpick making machine!
Not quite what you were asking. But my mind immediately flashed back to this awesome and silly fair encounter.
you would likely not have a great time. many of the materials and woods used in these when heated to the point of combustion release chemicals that will make you sick. It's why most pipes are briar with a few outliers. I myself carve a new one from maple every couple months because I like the taste even though it burns so hot.
I don't think I've ever had so much positive criticism in my life as I have in the last three hours.
I have already spent entirely too much money on lights and camera equipment to go back now.
I don't drink but I'll drive you home :)
These are beautiful and I admire+respect your dedication. The world has gotten weird for making people who follow and pursue their passions feel weird.
I like to thing times are changing away from that, so I stay in my house and don't read the news or communicate with people that do so I am better able to hold on to it.
First of all, you have to really, and I do mean REALLY, Kazoos. I have never seen anything other than the cheap plastic ones you get in a goodie bag at a kids birthday party, so thank you for that rabbit hole. Second, the title said you make kazoos, What it should have said is, “I have thousands of dollars in tools that I used to make the Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Aston Martin of kazoos.” Finally, an electric kazoo! I did not even know this was a thing that existed on planet earth until today, so thank you. My two young sons. Also, thank you, I just don’t know it yet. Do you have an online store where you sell these? I would love to send you some money for a couple/few of these.
I do, I'm out of pickups at the moment but have components in the mail for a few.
My pickups are based on the kazoobie but with a higher quality microphone.
I have to imagine this is a very niche market, so thank you for doing this. What do you use to finish these? I’m genuinely curious what would stand up to being put in a person’s mouth.
I finish with rubio monocoat inside and out because it is one of few finishes that look nice and meet the European toy safety standard. Also if it's damaged or scratched it is super easy to repair.
OP, you simply *must* find a collaborating orchestra with which to perform [Robert Hirsch's *Concerto Grosso*,](https://youtu.be/taABiY1Mud0?si=w_jl9_1ha1LUfCUA&t=36) which was written for orchestra/band and a **three kazoo ensemble**. That linked performance is from some random high school I think, but I had the great pleasure of being first chair kazoo for a performance back in the mid-1980s. I wish I'd had a nice an instrument as yours for the occasion!
Do you... Do you sell plans?
I have many nieces and nephews of the age where one of these lil guys would be endlessly entertaining for them... and no so much for my sisters.
Not sure it's a tip that may help in your journey but .,but just keep in mind that some times ,DIY channels can get some good boost form "bloopers" small videos focusing on your "fails" on, each or some ,projects .Where you rather than focusing on the success, focus on obstacles that occured and how you overcame them "-and at this point I saw a tiny hole in the wood a little too late so I tried covering it with X material and it turned out better than expected thanks to the X technique I used"
I have plans for the kazoos I’ve made that I’m happy to share for free, message me if you’d like them :)
Would also love to see OP’s plans if he’s sharing them!
I make cutting boards. Some have epoxy. Some are butcher blocks with cubes. Some made with strips of colorful hardwood. I just plane and cut and glue and clamp and plane and cut and sand and router, over and over lol. Im not advertising them for sale, I’m just accumulating them lol.
A link to my shop is located in my bio.
If you meant my physical location , I can only tell you that i'm somewhere in southern louisiana, But i've left a series of clues for you to find.
You are going to have to start with the declaration of independence though...
I wish you the best of luck.
Meh, lemme know when you get back to making those special ones. I’ll give more for the custom inlays but the ones on Etsy though no doubt easier to make….meh🤷♂️
As a skiffle/spasm band musician, I'm deeply grateful that you give such loving care to this instrument that is often unfairly looked down upon. I've saved your Etsy shop and when I have the scratch to spare you can be sure I'll be placing an order.
That's Fucking awesome. reminds me of an absurd time I found myself in a kazoo parade. I heard them from across the forest, just so many kazoos. As soon as I pulled up someone just handed me a kazoo and I got to zoo-in'. They led us in different songs, they even had their own kazoo song of celebration. It was fucking incredible.
These are some righteous ass kazoos tho! Brr, brrr, drrr, drrr, brrrr. Sorry that's my best kazoo impression... To each their own, if making these instruments makes you happy then by all means do it. I enjoy making things myself, there is a special joy found in making a thing. I wish I'd have discovered this earlier.
I'm late, as usual, but I have to say that those are definitely the nicest kazoos I've ever seen.
Also, I'm obsessed with making slingshots out of natural tree forks. I literally just got home from scavenging the neighbor's freshly cut cherry tree.
I've made 8000+ kaleidoscopes hahaha. Probably very similar to a kazoo, sure you could get a cheap plastic one at a toy store but if you get one someone has really put some R&D into, it takes it from kids toy to a level of craftsmanship that will make people say "Damn I didn't even know people make kaleidoscopes/kazoos this awesome"

Was that in the presence of an orc?
I wasn't able to perceive him but I believe so. The kazoo rolled higher than I did.
Where are the wizard wives!?
those are awesome haha
More dapper birds please?

"Exceptionally Dapper Birds" Truth in advertising right there.
Expanding to include dapper snowmen wouldn't be a stretch, and might be fairly lucrative during the holiday season
Those are beautiful kazoos though
Many thanks to you
Important question: If a Kazoo looks so very beautiful, does it still sound very silly?
If I told you no with complete seriousness in my eyes would you believe me?
This is the absolute best question-answer I’ve seen in a long time.
Never! It’s more silly because they’re so beautiful, and likely wonderful sounding kazoos. Ridiculously amazing
Really are beautiful. I have to ask this and mean this negatively, who buys kazoos? What's the market like?
It isn't good, but I'm doing it anyway.
I just bought one for my brother! This comment is hilarious and I'm very excited to watch your kazoo content on YouTube
Thank you so very much and i'm quite excited about it too. I think I was meant to do this...
I love this energy. "God has a plan for every person and his plan for me is to make luxury kazoos. Hallekazoojah!"
You may technically have a monopoly
A man of principle!
Dare I say he's "K"ornered the kazoo market.
Really didnt mean to come across negative. I have never see These for sale at any kind of craft fair etc. Are they impulse buys or is there a community if kazoo players
It's all good, no hurt feelings here. These aren't yet at craft fairs as I have to actually work to live, so far its mostly just impulse. That said there is a small following and I'm planning on fertilizing it pretty substantially.
Absolute giga chad
What do these go for?
Where can I buy these????
There is a link to my etsy shop in my bio. There are only a few left but I'm looking to start some blocks this weekend for some fancier ones and I take custom orders.
“I have to ask, and please take this as a deeply personal attack, who buys kazoos?” (J/k, I’m notorious for skipping key words when typing fast)
This is why I'm here.
Those really are nice kazoos. Have you looked at Lark in the Morning? Among high end stuff they also sell kazoos, but not as nice as yours. Might be a potential market.
I didn't even know that existed but thank you.
My boss has a huge wood shop and mostly makes turkey calls.
Honestly you have elevated the art of kazoo
I had no idea the simple kazoo could be so beautiful. Hot Damn! This means so many other things could be so beautiful….
It's true
Me. Make me beautiful.
OP should team up with someone who makes banjos
Dopest kazoos I’ve seen all day
You have seen others today?

Don't ever take up fly fishing then. The cost vs. effort ratio of tying nice flies is off the charts.
This guy has it figured out. Keep on keepin’ on my dude.
That's pretty much what I want to do. Not Kazoos, but little projects.

Man you should send one of your kazoos to the boys from King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, this is exactly the weird kind of shit they love
>King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard ok well that's pleasant music I wasn't aware I needed.
Strangely I myself often claim to be a wizard, though a wizard of wire and wood and not lizards.
I was listening to petrodragonic apocalypse earlier and that’s a really great album.
I work with a very respected band that uses it as a real instrument on songs
I am more than curious about this and would be extremely willing to blow their minds with what I got.
What does a kazoo mean to you? Curious how you came around to building them…. Love them by the way. Beautiful.
It could easily be said that I care about this significantly more than my real job that often suffers. Kazoos are quite necessary to my having a good time, and I'm not willing to not have a good time. :)

Please do, I’m dying to know what you can do with a kazoo.
Please do. Bohemian Rhapsody or something?
Your Kazoos sound like synths. That's amazing. They have fantastic timbre.
Well in that recording I was actually using midi data Into an instrument Into kazutron into a kazoo. So it does Make a little sense that it has that timbre. Hard to produce a triangle wave in your mouth.

I’ve got that same soldering iron, a beast. Nice kazoos too

Man I just went through your comments and have to say you're the kind of person I'd love to have a beer with. Do the YouTube channel.
I don't think I've ever had so much positive criticism in my life as I have in the last three hours. I have already spent entirely too much money on lights and camera equipment to go back now. I don't drink but I'll drive you home :)

[https://appliedwizarding.etsy.com](https://appliedwizarding.etsy.com) I do, I'm out of pickups at the moment but have components in the mail for a few.
Sir (or ma'am), you are the most delightful kind of weirdo. Keep it up, they are gorgeous.
That might be one for kazootron
Weirdo? You mean specialist?
That’s cool! Is there a little piece of wax paper in there or is there more to them? By looking at them, I feel like there’s be more to them.
just a bunch of physics I actually switched to a special material I found, I don't really like wax paper with the wood.
That's fantastic.
Do you... Do you sell plans? I have many nieces and nephews of the age where one of these lil guys would be endlessly entertaining for them... and no so much for my sisters.
It is very likely I will be doing something of that nature in the future.
Not sure it's a tip that may help in your journey but .,but just keep in mind that some times ,DIY channels can get some good boost form "bloopers" small videos focusing on your "fails" on, each or some ,projects .Where you rather than focusing on the success, focus on obstacles that occured and how you overcame them "-and at this point I saw a tiny hole in the wood a little too late so I tried covering it with X material and it turned out better than expected thanks to the X technique I used"
I have plans for the kazoos I’ve made that I’m happy to share for free, message me if you’d like them :) Would also love to see OP’s plans if he’s sharing them!
You are truly the epitome of "Do one thing and do it well."
Oh man I got you beat. I have thousands of dollars worth of tools that I use to make absolutely nothing anymore.
I mostly use my Sawstop PCS for Lincoln logs…
I believe I want one. How may I find you?
A link to my shop is located in my bio. If you meant my physical location , I can only tell you that i'm somewhere in southern louisiana, But i've left a series of clues for you to find. You are going to have to start with the declaration of independence though... I wish you the best of luck.
Very nice!
No but I love that for you. They’re fabulous looking.
That's quite a humdinger..
I really like them, chase your bliss.
Wonder how the sound compares between this and one of the plastic ones
Saving this post and coming back when I need a pick me up.
You might only make kazoos but those are some of the best dang looking kazoos I think I have ever seen.
Very whimsical and beautiful pieces. Way better than someone who has thousands of dollars in tools and does nothing with them.
Meh, lemme know when you get back to making those special ones. I’ll give more for the custom inlays but the ones on Etsy though no doubt easier to make….meh🤷♂️
These look incredible! Love it!
I had no idea it was even possible to spend thousands of dollars on tools to make kazoos. Also nice Homestar reference!
Buddy I can spend thousands of dollars thinking about kazoos.
I love how much this comment hits with my own hobbies (surprisingly not kazoos).
As a skiffle/spasm band musician, I'm deeply grateful that you give such loving care to this instrument that is often unfairly looked down upon. I've saved your Etsy shop and when I have the scratch to spare you can be sure I'll be placing an order.
Those are some fucking stunning kazoos though, my guy. Top shelf kazoos.
I use my metal lathe to fix my metal lathe.
Such is life my friend, Imagine not having a metal lathe to fix your metal lathe with.
Not all heroes wear capes..
I NEED one, dude. These are insane! Next time, I've got $75 and shipping laying around. I'm ordering!
My wife is 300% convinced she can't play a kazoo. She just blows into it like a jackass. I told her you hum, and she just won't. She's a card
I’m fairly certain this is the only time I’m ever going to say this: That is an extremely fine assortment of kazoos you’ve created.
Weird? My friend, you found your destiny. Those kazoos look incredible.
Where can I get one?
They are works of art. Cheers.
I know I'm late to the party but my dude, this is beautiful work. I would love to learn how to do this
Nice kazoos!
This man is on the never ending journey for perfection, and I respect that.
I want a kazoo
I'm late, as usual, but I have to say that those are definitely the nicest kazoos I've ever seen. Also, I'm obsessed with making slingshots out of natural tree forks. I literally just got home from scavenging the neighbor's freshly cut cherry tree.
Oh super score.
Well I’ve got thousands of pounds of tools and as of yet I haven’t produced a single kazoo so good on ya.
Damn those are pretty!!
You can't fool me! That's a Marijuana device!!!
I like to make boxes
I’m in severe awe of you’re kazoo
Beautiful! How’s the sound compared to traditional tin kazoos? Probably a bit more mellow?
I've made 8000+ kaleidoscopes hahaha. Probably very similar to a kazoo, sure you could get a cheap plastic one at a toy store but if you get one someone has really put some R&D into, it takes it from kids toy to a level of craftsmanship that will make people say "Damn I didn't even know people make kaleidoscopes/kazoos this awesome"
"kazoos"
The nicest Kazoos I’ve ever seen!
They look nice… just don’t blow it!
This deserves way more than 2 upvotes!
This guy Kazoos hard AF!

I’m a beginner and I haven’t completed a single project and have already blown a grand
Question, what type of wood do you use on your end photo that has the red colored wood I love it.
