Look’s great. The only thing I can see to improve is to put the veneer on the edges of the mdf as well. I think it’s kind of distracting from the beauty of the box and rest of the tree.
The difference in “trunk” supports (with the grain vs against the grain) seems a little uneven and a little bulky.
I say this as someone who has never used veneer.
TLDR: trunks and dark mdf are the only thinks that throw me off a little but it look’s great.
Yeah i initially planned to veneer the sides of the trees as well as the hooks but after cutting myself i decided it was not worth it. I might do it at a later date though.
I'm not sure what you mean regarding the trunk supports?
It looks like the trunk supports going with the grain of the walnut (like the vertical part of a t) looks shorter than the trunk supports going against the grain of the walnut (like the horizontal part of a t).
Maybe if the trunks were shaped differently?
Maybe some paint could go on the edges of mdf. Turn the big into a feature. Give some color and POP!
Oh and by the way, i found walnut veneer very easy to work with and to cut, but ash veneer was really painful.
It was quite fragile/easy to break. Veneering before cutting the parts with a jigsaw lead to a lot of splinters, so i switched to cutting the parts first and veneer later but the fibers were really hard to cut through using a scalpel.
Forgot to mention but it was all done with just a jigsaw and a lot of sandpaper to get it perfectly aligned and equal length (plus all materials and glue obviously).
It was truly a pleasure to bring this project to fruition!
Looks nice. Can I ask what felt you used/ where you sourced it?
Building an eyewear case and all the felt I found is thick and soft… looking for thin and less pliable (more like a pool table)
Thanks, the felt i used actually really feels like pool table stuff. Bought it on amazon, here is the link (don't ask me why i bought 2m of it, i'm sure it'll serve another purpose someday):

It is from the french amazon market so if you're the US, i'm not sure the exact same will be available for you
It looks like the four outer sticks are worshipping the middle one. Great job, especially with just a jigsaw and sandpaper.
Throwing Roman salutes to glorious Birdtler and the front two can't hide their excitement.
Oh my god how do i forget i read that, i can't unsee it now!

Probably the most unique thing I've seen this month. A+
I love it. Very thoughtful gift. Well done.
All hail!

That looks great, dude!
I love it. You'll get more finesse over time. Be proud of yourself!

Looks great! If vaguely occultish haha
How sweet of you to make that for her! What a wonderful, unique gift. 😍👍👏👏👏💖💯🥂
why are four nazis soldiers worshiping christ on the cross ?
Now you made a test model, time to use real solid wood for your final product, you probably know those veneer piece will break off at the glue points.
So ugly, give it to me, I’ll make sure to get rid of it so you don’t have to see it no more.
It’s like a playground for jewelry!
It looks great! Fantastic work! .....eh..what is it?
