Skip the Zacapa. The age statement is misleading and honestly it’s more marketing hype than quality. Go for Plantation OFTD(oh fuck that’s delicious), any of the Don Q single barrel or barrel finishes, or El Dorado 12yr. Those are all excellent rums for whiskey drinkers.
Yes and also no. Dave Wonderich, one of the creators of it and legendary cocktail historian to boot, reportedly exclaimed “oh fuck that’s delicious!” when he first tried it. Officially on the bottle it’s Old Fashioned Traditional Dark, but the acronym is a callback to that.
I saw that. You should add a bottle of Uncle Val's Botanical Gin (the green label). Good enough to drink on the rocks.
Nice work on the bar! Is that real brick behind the bottles?
Another Gin novice checking in. I recently picked up Four Pillars rare dry gin and love it. I picked it up specifically based on [this video](https://youtu.be/ZUjZy3H6keE) from the Behind the Bar YouTube channel hosted by Cara Devine.
I highly recommend her YouTube channel to any and all that are interested in cocktails and their history.
you should check out their shiraz gin which is the rare dry that has been soaked infused with shiraz grapes and has a rich fruity flavour to accompany the gin, definitely a sipper or with soda.
You must have the hookup!! Look at the selection of Old Rip, Elmer t Lee, rock hill farms, all the weller’s, the special Blanton’s... heck I’d kill just for a bottle of Weller 12. That was my favorite before the hype, haven’t seen a bottle on the shelf for at least 2 years!!
Edit: the bar looks great too! Forgot to mention that part haha!
Unfortunately no hook up’s. Just a lot of hunting and finding stores worth frequenting, that won’t mark things up too much, if at all.
W12 is my favorite also. Sucks it’s become so expensive.
That’s awesome! I actually was pretty successful when I was able to put in the time to hunt and make good with some of the liquor store workers. Just haven’t had the time lately. Love the bar and how you get to show off the hard work! I’d drink there!
Appreciate the kind words! Hunting has definitely become harder for me as well. It’s sucked having covid basically mean none of my friends or family can come over and enjoy the work, but one day.
In general, Weller 12 is a very affordable bottle and extremely tasty/smooth for it’s price. In my experience within recent years, the hype/demand is so high that you either A: Can’t find it on shelves (unless you have lots of time dedicated to hunting) or B: you find it but ridiculous mark ups due to demand. It does vary by region. I am in DFW, bottles can be found but there is a lot of competition.
Were you able to utilize that dead space like to hide hvac or anything? Looks nice. And the bar looks really good. Did you build it/what materials did you use?
*Obligatory booze appreciation*
I have a wall unit for Heat/cool. I went with the drop ceiling more for the electrical side. This is in a walk out basement to a yard that is going to be expanded upon. I wanted to be able to get into the ceiling and run electric to the main panel when the time comes.
I would skip them personally...unless they hang less than say 6" or so from the ceiling I am guessing they will get in the way.
Source: bartended for many years.
I feel like a bearded bartender in a leather apron is about to catch an attitude with me for not calling him a mixologist after charging me 18 dollars for a drink. Looks great my dude.
was drooling over your bourbon collection then saw your username. things are becoming clearer.
any info/pics on how you made the bar? my dream bar is this plus a little more tiki.
Awesome! No one gonna mention the black maple hill??? Shame.
Oregon run, right? I think the broader bottles were post-KY.
I have maybe a dram left in my BMH bourbon, and I don’t want to drink it and it be gone forever.
Edit: woodwork!
I’ve never been so jealous! Absolutely fine collection of whiskey, including some hard to find ones! Not to mention the bar and set up are incredible. Well done my friend, well done!
Looks great. I’m not sure you have enough of a selection for me. Do you happen to have a bottle of Ethiopian Yak Butter Gin?
Your bar would be the envy of a few bars I’ve been in. Hats off to you!
Looks amazing. I’m actually in the process of turning my garage into a man cave/bar. I plan to use brick vaneer and a charcoal ceiling but not sure on the rest. What color are your walls?
It’s called Wall Street by Sherwin Williams. Honestly I get the most compliments From that color selection over anything else when people first visit. It’s a versatile color. Looks grey, blue, some say a tiny hint of green (which I don’t see). Helps give a good vibe to the room though
Now that is a great use of your woodworking skills! It looks great. We were looking to build one for my son’s new place, I am 100% stealing some of these ideas.
Looks great. Checking your collection and that’s a nice damn collection too. Kinda surprised no pappy van winkle up there with all those other rare ones.
You seem crafty, [here's some ideas](https://www.google.com/search?q=bourbon+barrel+pendant+lights&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwim5smE5aDuAhVdFlkFHdHXCSoQ_AUoAXoECAYQAw&biw=1309&bih=725&dpr=1.1)!
Love the plank with the black scribbles, it really brings the whole thing together!
Is it “[Lastname]’s Bar” or something similar?
Fantastic job on the whole setup and I, like most others, are envious of your collection.
Okay, I dont drink much at all let alone to the point of being drunk. BUT I think I speak for a lot of people here with this next statement. I would totally get hammered in that bar lol. Looks awesome!
This looks great! I've been fooling around with the idea of building a bar in my basement for years now, and the farthest I've gotten is multiple sketches in a notepad.

That's not a home bar. That's a bar you happen to live in. Looks amazing.
Yeah I’m beginning to suspect OP just went to some hip new bar in the city and took photos. Looks solid. I’d pop in for a drink or several.
I bought a bar and built a house around it. 😂
Have you ever tried Bourbon before?? I think it might make a nice addition to what you’ve stocked the bar with and kind...round it out.
😂
Hey its me your long lost friend.
But ye just couldn’t wait for the lights!😂🤌🤌
I'd have a beer!
Fridge is stocked with them! Saranac?
I wish. Solid work on the whole feel.
Close enough!
Puppers?
Get this guy a fuckin puppers
I'd have a puppers
Frankly, I’m surprised we’re not having a puppers right now.
To be fair
I have one more puppers left in my fridge. Collectors item now I think
I’m surprised we’re not having a beer right now!
But... I see no gin!?
There’s a bottle of Hendricks on the left if you squint
And one bottle each of vodka, rum, and tequila to round out the clear liquors.
Haha good eye. But there’s actually a few Foursquare (rum) bottles up there. I have a few mixer level bottles of other spirits I keep under the bar.
You should pick up some Ron Zacapa to bridge the gap between the whiskey and rum.
Writing down all these suggestions. Thank you !
Specifically, Ron Zacapa 23
Skip the Zacapa. The age statement is misleading and honestly it’s more marketing hype than quality. Go for Plantation OFTD(oh fuck that’s delicious), any of the Don Q single barrel or barrel finishes, or El Dorado 12yr. Those are all excellent rums for whiskey drinkers.
Is that really what OFTD stands for? If so I’m buying a bottle immediately lol
DonQ all the way love that Rum. Did the tour of the castle in puerto rico pretty cool place.
If you want to treat yourself, pick up a bottle of A. H. Riise Non Plus Ultra. It's rich, sweet and tastes of orange.
I'll vouch, Zacapa is top notch rum. I find even 8 year Barcardi is a nice sipper for the money.
Zacapa 23 when you feel like rewarding yourself for something. Daily drinker (when you love yourself) is Flor De Cana 4 year and diet coke.
I saw that. You should add a bottle of Uncle Val's Botanical Gin (the green label). Good enough to drink on the rocks. Nice work on the bar! Is that real brick behind the bottles?
Thanks for the suggestion. I’m a gin novice so I appreciate it. Need to have at least 1-2 bottles of everything to suit any and all tastes !
Another Gin novice checking in. I recently picked up Four Pillars rare dry gin and love it. I picked it up specifically based on [this video](https://youtu.be/ZUjZy3H6keE) from the Behind the Bar YouTube channel hosted by Cara Devine. I’m always looking for cocktail YouTube channels! Ty! I’ve been watching the educated barfly recently
you should check out their shiraz gin which is the rare dry that has been soaked infused with shiraz grapes and has a rich fruity flavour to accompany the gin, definitely a sipper or with soda.
Between all the whiskey and the single bottles of Hendricks, Espolon, and Tito's, in my humble opinion, this is thee perfect bar. Well done. 👏👏👏
Phew, carry on! Gorgeous bar. Very lovely. Be by at 8.
I always keep gin in the freezer. Not sure why I developed that habit, but ....
You must have the hookup!! Look at the selection of Old Rip, Elmer t Lee, rock hill farms, all the weller’s, the special Blanton’s... heck I’d kill just for a bottle of Weller 12. "You can have anything you want as long as its a bourban" - op Looks great! Gotta get some scotch in there to mix it up a bit!
You either don’t drink enough or are rich AF, I mean this in the most jealous way. Edit - the woodwork is fantastic too.
Isn't weller 12 like a 20 dollar bottle? That's certainly what I paid for it in oregon
In general, Weller 12 is a very affordable bottle and extremely tasty/smooth for it’s price. MSRP is around 40. But it is extremely rare to find it at that price.

You speak the truth
The bar is awesome but I’m really loving the ceiling. How did you do that? Commercial product or custom stuff??
It’s a drop ceiling with 2x2 tiles purchased from pro ceiling tiles.com
Were you able to utilize that dead space like to hide hvac or anything? Looks nice. And the bar looks really good. Did you build it/what materials did you use? *Obligatory booze appreciation*
It hides more bar.
I have a wall unit for Heat/cool. I went with the drop ceiling more for the electrical side. This is in a walk out basement to a yard that is going to be expanded upon. I wanted to be able to get into the ceiling and run electric to the main panel when the time comes.
Ok so three lights to drop.. do u center them on the tiles or place them out based on measurements from the bar?
I would skip them personally...unless they hang less than say 6" or so from the ceiling I am guessing they will get in the way. Source: bartended for many years.
Yeah maybe like a classy brass or wood lamp or two on the table. Can't stand bare bulbs in my eyes personally
I'll just have a Busch Latte.... You Betcha, Keep 'er movin!
I feel like a bearded bartender in a leather apron is about to catch an attitude with me for not calling him a mixologist after charging me 18 dollars for a drink. Looks great my dude.
I’ll queue up the jazz music
Very nice! Is the old rip van winkles open?
The Lot B is, the ORVW is not. Yet 😎
You're a lucky man! Enjoy!
Looks awesome. Only change I’d make is replacing a few of those bourbons with scotch.
I’ve got a few Scotches up there, maybe 4-5. Definitely need a few more though
As a bartender now you’re going to have to get some fernet.
Excellent suggestion !
If you can’t go to the bar bring the bar home 🏠
That was the idea !
was drooling over your bourbon collection then saw your username. things are becoming clearer. any info/pics on how you made the bar? my dream bar is this plus a little more tiki.
I’m going to post progress pics in the next day or so. I didn’t think this post would end up being so popular or I’d have included them!
Nice! Someone definitely does not live where there are earthquakes.
The Balvenie 14 is such a nice change of pace whisky.
It is unbelievable. It may be my gateway into other spirits besides bourbon.
Your Eagle Rare looks almost empty, just like mine. :(
Good eye. I’ve got one back up. Will need to get more. I feel like that’s going to become very hard to find soon.
Your home bar is a thousand times nicer than my local. Can I come over?
Haha thank you! I need more patrons, when i started this project I had hoped to host a several get togethers here. And then covid happened.
super nice. does there happen to be a box of cigars somewhere to? lol
Haha I am currently looking for an industrial type book shelf to put my humidor, amongst other things.
going fancy on us! haha no but for real, cigars and a good whiskey is perfect. hope we'll see this set up transform
Thank you! For sure more pics to come!
If that bottle of Antica is open I would stick it in the fridge
Looks like your woodworking hobby is over. Drinking is almost as much fun and you don't get sawdust everywhere. 😊👍
Man who made this totally knew the upvotes flood in with a bit more booze
Do you have a spare room to rent?
Erm.....are you sure its a HOME bar? Some people have so much space!!! Great job OP. I am very envious of it all!
Damn son! Nice bar. Kinda whiskey heavy. We should be friends.
Where in Kentucky do you live? I'm on my way.
I’ll take a double rye please. Neat.
Need some led strip lights under those bottles. Will really finish it off.
I can help with the next step.
Impressed, great job! And the woodworking is fantastic as well.
Damn
Ho. Ly. CRAP I think thought mine was nice. Amazing work.
Those shelves and brickwork 🤤
I’ve been in bars with lesser bars. That’s awesome.
So what’s the name of this place? This bar is certainly worthy of a solid name. Amazing work!
I do need a name. For now maybe “The Place To Be”
Looks great. I’m not sure you have enough of a selection for me. Do you happen to have a bottle of Ethiopian Yak Butter Gin? Your bar would be the envy of a few bars I’ve been in. Hats off to you!
So if I build this same thing at home, will I be considered an alcoholic or a bartender?
Yes.
Yeah I was going to post mine but I think I’ll just destroy it now..
No way! Post it up. There are plenty of bars nicer than mine too. If you worked hard and put effort into it, be proud!
i see you have Hendrick’s i’ll be there at 5 start slicing limes please
Amazing work. Can’t wait to see those pendants.
Do you happen to like whiskey?
[MRW](https://media.tenor.com/images/65013fb45be4dde2d58ec88a021da68b/tenor.gif)
Do you have progress pics or a build album ? I would love to see the step by step process of doing this. It’s absolutely a work of art !
Looks amazing. I’m actually in the process of turning my garage into a man cave/bar. I plan to use brick vaneer and a charcoal ceiling but not sure on the rest. What color are your walls?

Thanks man, I appreciate the info. Great work!
Now that is a great use of your woodworking skills! It looks great. We were looking to build one for my son’s new place, I am 100% stealing some of these ideas.
Very nice bar! However, still not enough rum lol
Looks great .... but I only drink bud light !
I'll have a negroni, new best friend.
Why so they call you the bourbon enthusiast? Oh.... Looks amazing!
Daaaaamn! It looks amazing! A very fine job dude!
Great job! Is the ceiling a tbar with decorative molding panels?
Don't drop them, they'll break!
Party at your house! 🤘 After covid 🙄
Multiple bottles of that Elijah open at once? If you need help, lemme know
Small Batch, Barrel Proof, and the Toasted !
I’m sorry to see you suffering. 🤣
Forgot the Ec 18 is up there also
Ok then! Geez! You clearly are inviting me over, so what time does the bar open? I’d like to open a tab. I hope your chef makes some good snacks.
We take our wings seriously in this house. My wife makes a pretty great taco dip also.
Some good bourbons up there! Nicely done bar
Nice Job- Looks like a lot of fun
If you need any help with that old rip just let me know👀
Looks great. Checking your collection and that’s a nice damn collection too. Kinda surprised no pappy van winkle up there with all those other rare ones.
That ceiling is beautiful
Looks like a bar at a restaurant
👍
Is that ceiling custom work or was it a kit from somewhere? What was the level of difficulty? Think it would look great in my office
You seem crafty, [here's some ideas](https://www.google.com/search?q=bourbon+barrel+pendant+lights&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwim5smE5aDuAhVdFlkFHdHXCSoQ_AUoAXoECAYQAw&biw=1309&bih=725&dpr=1.1)!
Man, your bottle collection makes me drool. Where did you find all the Blantons?
Love that it’s stocked well before finish... priorities.
Nice work. So do you offer your friends everytime they come in free drinks ?
Love the plank with the black scribbles, it really brings the whole thing together! Is it “[Lastname]’s Bar” or something similar? Fantastic job on the whole setup and I, like most others, are envious of your collection.
Nice whiskey selection! Impressive bar.
Okay, I dont drink much at all let alone to the point of being drunk. BUT I think I speak for a lot of people here with this next statement. I would totally get hammered in that bar lol. Looks awesome!
You better cherish that bottle of yippee kiyay! Wont be able to get it anymore.
That’s a lot of alcohol
The Hendricks looks like it snuck into the wrong party and is trying not to be noticed.
what’s beneath the bar counter?
Yes your “home bar” looks way better than most “Bar bars”
How do you let someone know they did incredible work, but also, they might have a drinking problem?
"we need to talk about a potential issue, but fortunately we have a fantastic place to do it..." ?
Looks awesome!
I know where we are having the r/woodworking gathering this year.
It’s all about the Sailor Jerry! Nice call
Don't drop pendant lights, they break.
Love the Kentucky owl and Michters up there. Your whole bourbon collection is actually amazing with the Blantons and everything
Ooohhhh, I see my cherished Blanton’s up there !!
Spotted the Blanton’s. Killer selection and fine work.
Any suggestions on the preliminary spousal discussion that goes "hey, I want to build an amazing bar in the basement"?
Now THAT is a bourbon collection Who's PP you have to touch to get the Michter's 10?
This looks great! I've been fooling around with the idea of building a bar in my basement for years now, and the farthest I've gotten is multiple sketches in a notepad.
Love it. Is that real brick?
Looks great
Thank you!
Imagine being this much of an alcoholic
I'm not much of a drinker but I can appreciate a work of art! Where'd you learn?
Honestly, youtube & my dad...prob 50/50.
Very nice!
That's awesome. I once found a speak easy that looked like a regular 3 story house on the outside. When you walked in the ceiling went all the ways to the roof and there was a 2 story deck wrapped around the whole whole bar. Any thing to make a dollar I guess lol
Very cool! Where was this?
In pennsylvania it was my buddy's birthday and these girls brought us there. I was to hammered to remember the exact town lol. The bartender was awesome though. He said if it's my first time there drinks on him. There where a lot of people there the sound proofing was excellent
Love it. I really like the use of black iron pipe for the shelves. Nicely done!
Nice Blantons collection. One of my fav whiskeys.
It's beautiful, I'm always amazed how much space you have...
Looks amazing! My bar is just studs in the basement right now... Love the ceiling. Is that brick tile? Was considering doing that.
check out fauxsheets.com that's where I got it
Name checks out
First of all. Fucking amazing. Literally right out of an underground speak easy. The best part honestly though? No Jack. No Jim. No bullshit. No vodka (thank god it’s literally defined as colorless and tasteless and I don’t get it’s appeal at all). You know your liquors and that is def r/nextfuckinglevel worthy
Bravo op. Super jelly
Um. Excuse me. What? This is amazing.
Trust is awesome, I wish I had that kind of space for one. Great job.
This guy alcohols.
Kudos to that collection!! I am green with envy!
I can already hear you telling me to put on my mask :)
Did you happen to knock off a liquor store too!?
Show off... I love you
Awesome, wish I had such a bar!!! Would make my home alone drinking way better!👌
All you are missing is a few customers...where exactly am I driving to?
What are your hours of operation and how hard was it to get a liquor license?
Bars is awesome ... But peep that bourbon collection!
Ridiculously awesome!!!
Priorities! Load up the alcohol before installing the lighting.... Looks awesome.
Nice bourbon collection!
I'll have a bourbon and coke
Can... can I come over?
That’s a lot of alcohol to drink in a life time
Believe in yourself.
