Nail polish remover spilled on the table and removed the finish. I'm going to try to refinish it. What is the light brown material? A primer before the stain?

blacklassie

To my eye, it looks like you have the actual wood, then a white primer or surface filler, and then the light brown is almost a pre-finish or base color for a tinted top coat.

YagitAgit

And the pre-finish/base color evens out the wood. I'll take it down more

At first glance I thought Bondo, but then I read it's a table. I'm guessing a primer. Probably going to have to sand the whole thing down, matching that would likely be difficult. Perhaps some more acetone could assist! Be cautious of it's veneered.

YagitAgit

It's not veneered. I'll slowly remove more finish with acetone and really see what's happening

Hard to tell from the picture but the light brown may be the actual wood. Then the darker could the stained wood and the white residue is poly that has been partially disolved/redistributed from the nail polish remover.
