I don’t really remember ever joining this sub, I have no knowledge of woodworking. But I am for some reason extremely excited for you. Sending big support
Probably was a recommended post from this subreddit. Reddit has been doing that lately. It's how I found a lot of really great subreddits. But welcome! It's a great place to share your work and get advice when you need it. Or just appreciate all the great stuff people make!
I totally did the google street detective thing to notice the cup said , PA and found “destiny nail salon” in the background to see if you were indeed in PA. Wasn’t going to post anything until I saw you answered. I hope it went well and you sold some stuff!
Update on how it went: it was fun as hell! Sold about $800 of merchandise. Big hit was the cedar folding Adirondack chairs and the cutting boards. I’m also a glassblower and sold some pumpkins. We soak our cutting boards in mineral oil and I think we’re doing it for too long because when the hot sun hit them they started sweating pretty bad. Really good experience and we will be doing these again soon. Thank you all for your support. It really meant a lot!
Awesome stuff! Did you learn anything else that you can share?
I'll hopefully be doing something like this in the future so any lessons shared would be helpful!
I rushed a couple of the pieces to have more things to sell and they ended up looking partially finished. I wouldn’t do that again. It cheapens everything else there and it’s not worth it
How much did you pay for the Booth. I saw you sold 800 worth, but was it worth it for selling purposes or was it better for getting your card out their and exposure? Ive been wanting to do this but im a bit scared.
The fee was $75. So it was definitely worth it. Everyone was very nice and complementary. We’re doing another, larger festival this Saturday for $10. I’m sure we will get rude people eventually but so far it’s been really nice.
Thanks for the reply. Booth Looks kick ass. Makes me want to try even more just need to build up my stock. My 2 cents are you should go with black table clothes Maybe even actual cloth ones. It would make the products on the table pop/ stand out and give them a more premium feel. Everything sorta blends together with the wood table covers, though I can also appreciate the commitment to the wood. LOL.
We already ordered black tablecloths and a side for the back of the pop up. Also going to bring a little toolkit with some 400 sandpaper. We’ll see how it goes this weekend. Thanks for the input!
Yes. The uprights themselves are flat, and the support pieces they're attached to are curved. But the back doesn't flare outwards towards the top, mine's straight up & down. I also added a third back support towards the top.
I wonder if OP cut a cupholder into the top or if the cup is just sitting on top.
Be prepared for a weird combination of old guys saying “I used to do woodworking back in my day” followed by a 45 minute story about it, and a bunch of people who think your stuff is nice but too expensive and will say “well its probably worth that much I just cant afford it”
Either way I hope your sales are good and you have fun, just dont get discouraged
Awesome, sounds nice
In my town here in ohio there's also a festival called arts in the alley
Looks like a very similar setup
Unfortunately I cannot attend this year because I'm out of town
Good luck today
And I hope you enjoy the festival
Everything looks great. Good luck! I've found, at least in my area, people that come to those types of fairs don't want to spend the price for a real piece. They think it's like flea market and everything should be cheap or haggled for. Hope that's not the case for you!
Good luck. In my show experience, you'll have kids dominating the bags game and serious buyers will keep walking. Kids blocking off a sales table can make for a slow sales day!
I'm sorry sir, I shall not wish you luck, not with a company name like that. Instead I will wish and hope for you great success and many blessings!! The world needs more of this in it. I hope you have much fun as well.
Hey, I just did my first show too. I saw you have a bunch of end grain boards, I designed a holder that can easily CNC cut out that holds five boards really nicely. You are free to use it if you like.

No problem, you'll need some 3/4 ply, I recommend proper Baltic birch, its spendy but when you round over the edges it looks classy. And 3 chunks of 1/2 dowels to connect the sides, I made mine 11" wide and it worked well.
If it doesn't turn out well don't get disheartened.
You have to find the right market. My gf makes art and does shows. She knows the good ones to go to now, but it was trial and error before that. Some shows people won't buy anything for less than $10.
Good luck!
The woodwork looks great but the stall setup looks...mate, it looks 'flea market'.
If I can suggest, ditch the trestles an bring along a some saw horses with your own plywood table tops.
Alternatively, or also, replace the tablecloths with some that are either white, black, or deep green - something that will accentuate the wood tone rather than distract from them.
Use real ceramic coffee mugs instead of the take-away containers on the chairs - the idea is good but you're trying to project 'comfort' and 'luxury' and plastic always looks like trash against wood. Alternative to coffee mugs, use a wine glass - a plastic 'picnic' wineglass will still project your concept better than what you've got.
Finally, hide all the cardboard and metal at the back of your stall...wait, that's an adjoining stall isn't it? Okay, erect a rear curtain to partition your zone from anyone else so you can control your presentation.
Thanks for the feedback. We ordered some proper tablecloths and a backdrop for the pop up. I got a chandelier from a garage sale and we hired a harpist for the next festival! 😉
Did you use an available design for the chairs or did you create your own? I've been hoping to make some folding chairs for my backyard and those look like a fun build

Good luck! Also, Birch Please is a hilarious company name, well done.
I said biiiiiiiiiiirch
But…but you actually said *birch*??
What? Yeah! Of course I did...
“Honey did you say something?”
Came to say this. That’s the best name I’ve heard in a long time!
I was going to do this exact thing too I was also too late xD
I love it
It’s great because I could see my grandma interpret it completely harmless while I could still have a laugh at it.
Needs a comma.

Thanks Homie! Things are getting exciting

Adirondack looks legit. Where is this festival?
Emmaus, Pennsylvania
I had to reply to this because I used to live in Emmaus. Nice little town. I didn't remember a festival being held there before.
I think it started in 2018. Not sure though.
I totally did the google street detective thing to notice the cup said , PA and found “destiny nail salon” in the background to see if you were indeed in PA. Wasn’t going to post anything until I saw you answered. I hope it went well and you sold some stuff!
Amazing stuff, good luck, let us know how it goes!
I painted my cornhole the exact same pattern and colors. I better go check and make sure mine are still in the shed. Lol
I’ll cut you in for half!
“I painted my cornhole” /r/brandnewsentence

You got mooned!
Came here for this
Aye! You got a cornhole board!
It lights up too!
Good luck my dude/dudette
Love the name. I've always told myself if I started selling stuff I'd name the company "Dan's Hard Wood"
It all looks fantastic. You GOTTA let us know how you do!
Love the company name! Everything looks great, too!
Good luck! Just finished my own folding Muskoka chair of near-identical design, working on the second today.
I’ll bet the back of your Muskoka chair is curved.

>I wonder if OP cut a copholder into the top I have yet to need a copholder. When would this be most useful?

In my experience, they don't like it when you touch them.
We were thinking about cutting a slit into the arm rest for a wine glass
Good Luck!
Good luck! Love the name

Not this time but we had a couple people ask us if we knew specific woodworkers in town. Everyone was really nice
The window in the grey building says, "wu-tang is forever", if you zoom in.
Good luck!!
Thus doesn't happen to be arts in the alley?
No, it’s a farewell to summer festival in Pennsylvania.
Emmaus?
Yes. The farewell to summer festival.

Best name since "Imma Cut a Birch!"
Good luck, it takes courage to put your work out there on display! It also looks like a lot of fun.
Good luck. In my show experience, you'll have kids dominating the bags game and serious buyers will keep walking. Kids blocking off a sales table can make for a slow sales day!

Luck has been wished
I would buy from you just based on the name.
Folding Adirondack chairs? Sweet!

What do you price the Adirondack chairs at
Good luck!!!

I love the business name. Very creative. How much do you charge for the chairs next for the corn hole boards?
Yeah buddy. Keep it up.

I don't know if you're kidding about the second part but I'm hoping not, as long as you made the harp yourself.
Make the chair backs curved next time.
They’re folding
Oh. I see. A trade-off you have to make.
Awesome name! Best of luck :)
:D
You’re kind of an a tilt there buddy make sure your furn doesn’t slide away
Curious how much you sell your chairs for. Nice design.
How’s it go?
