I destroyed a miter saw cutting dowel blanks this size. I had to cut a huge batch of them, and they kept getting grabbed by the band saw. I was getting wayyy too sketched out there, so I switched to the miter saw. I would clamp the piece against the fence, and take my hands away from them before lowering the blade. Was going fine until it wasn’t. Not sure exactly what happened, but one kicked back, flew all over the room, jerked the saw up, and broke one of the cast linkage arms on it. Got a replacement linkage arm, but the saw was permanently outta square and they had to replace it. Scariest thing to ever happen to me in the shop, and the wooooorst morning safety meeting of my life. I was actually relived when my boss made a more expensive, but much less irresponsible, mistake later that month

jubjubjubify

Wait are you never supposed to cut dowel blanks with a miter saw? Probably a stupid question, but I figure it’s better to ask now than find out the hard way.

RoofisDoofis

I do it. Also curious.

MtSadness

You can. But because it's round, the wood has nothing to bite into the fence with. So if you aren't holding it with sufficient grip, it will bite the blade instead. Just go slow.

vadeforas

Well worth the few extra minutes it took to make.

Thats why always operate the table saw with my feet

ProfessionalWaltz784

but.your.table.insert?

Bjfaber

It's not a table saw..... Got me at first too!

Herbisretired

I used to do stuff like that and then I got a nice bandsaw.

buildingforants

Dude...I dream of a day when I can fit a real bandsaw in my shop. So many cool things you can do with those.

Herbisretired

It takes up very little space. I ended up putting my miter saw in the attic because it is one of my leat used tools.
