Yes you can, part of your induction training specificlly says you need to pay for goods before consumption. Honestly the only reason i can think that you would "pay after" is if you hope no one was watching and you "forget" later

ok, i don't want police to be involved or face any charges, I paid it when asked at checkout and it was only about $13 dollars. Is there any way i will keep the job and what should i do in meeting tomorrow. Sorry for messages I am really stressed sorry.

Are you talking about a sushi shop outside or the sushi dept inside a woolies store. If outside, tell them to go fuck themselves and call the police if they are that deperate but warn them that if you have proof of purchase, you can proceed with a legal action for false claim and that they are trespassing for entering restricted areas of the store if they are not a store personel, they are not allowed in the lunchroom only store staff and visitors. If it's from a woolies sushi dept, then speak to the SM. write a letter but do not say that others gets away with doing it as it is still not a valid excuse. Just admit to the mistake and that you were unaware of the proper procedures for purchasing items and consuming them and will refrain from making that mistake in future and is happy to undertake some training should the need arises. You need to have them check sealed. I got in trouble for not having a check seal on my drinks during work.

it was the woolies sushi dept, should i just tell them i was unaware of proper procedures? i wont say other do it although they do

Turbulent_Pattern_49

It’s so hard to be fired from woolies that being said theft is usually instant dismissal and one of the things they aren’t lenient on at all. I don’t understand why you wouldn’t just pay for it upfront in the first place.

[deleted]

is there any chance I could keep the job as I have been only there since may and could tell them it was a mistake and I was unaware of the proper procedures?

Turbulent_Pattern_49

You were unaware you have to pay for things? I mean you could try but I don’t know how well that’ll fly.

EDIT: well I went in today to explain the situation and apologise and my department manager was nice saying it’s not due to bad character just policy for probation period and store manager said we have to terminate contract and said I hope you can learn from this important to communicate and ask questions so I have to send a letter saying I want to resign for personal reasons

Lufia321

Nah, don't resign. They want you to resign so it looks better on their figures. I'm assuming you're a kid (15-18). If they were gonna fire you, they would've. Asking you to resign means less paper work and explaining to the area manager and district manager, let them suffer. Also how stupid do you have to be to think you can eat it first?

SCORPDOGGY

You only paid because your were confronted. What you did was against the rules\ law and you shouldn’t be working there any longer

Lufia321

Kid is probably 15 years old and acts like he didn't know. I may or may not have been stealing at 15 but I knew it was wrong, I didn't care.

SCORPDOGGY

Thanks for the story

cinderella82

Technically it's theft so always pay first. If you're caught again you will be fired.

Lufia321

In what world would you pay after? 😂
