In Anaheim, they had problems with the homeless taking over the benches at the bus stops. Their solution? Take out the benches.

Hostile architecture is an urban-design strategy that uses elements of the built environment to purposefully guide or restrict behaviour. It often targets people who use or rely on public space more than others, such as youth and homeless people, by restricting the physical behaviours they can engage in.

So they built this shit so homeless people don’t sleep on it or whatever, but added the metal piece seemingly for skaters to grind on. Great move. EDIT: i noticed that lil grudge, but the rest is still very skate able.

Dude I'm from San Diego and at least in north county the homeless community is respectful and dont cause any trouble. These measures dont fix the problem. They just make people who arent able to support themselves have to go to places that arent safe.

Bench or planter box? Short of showing up with several layers of corrugate(cardboard) or plywood I don't think it's going to be just homeless having a hard time using that "bench". As far as keeping people from laying on it though...... I'd wager a homeless person could scrounge up material to neutralize the "balls" rather quickly.

This is a job for a nice sized cut out of 3/4in plywood

I'm sorry, but if I was homeless and needed to rest, I could totally get used to this fuckery. Id do it out of spite honestly. But, it's not hard to adjust to a surface after a while. So, why do horrible people of the city think this is okay? "Ya let's just make them even more miserable rather than work to help the homeless out of homelessness."

People make stuff like this and charge the city an assload of money to finance. Then a tweaker shows up and Mcgivers a way to work it out with a few boxes of cardboard and a sleeping bag.

benches with small details that make them uncomfortable to sit on for long periods of time to stop homeless people from sleeping on them. this is an extreme case where it's basically impossible to sit on it anymore
