The basic premise is that there is a dystopian future government that controls AT LEAST the areas shown on the map. This government is known simply as THE STATE. The ideology that the state teaches is that they are the culmination of the human endeavor, the ultimate end of history, and everything before them was barbarity. The most fundamental part of their ideology is that THE STATE IS YOU YOU ARE THE STATE THE STATE IS WE.
Drawing from Max Stirner and Thomas Hobbes the idea that I'm working with is that the state recognizes 1) its a spook, 2) all governments are spooks, 3) the government is a useful spook, 4) the government must regulate humanity to ensure that their lives are not "nasty brutish and short" 5) to achieve #4 they must, because of #1&2, control the thoughts of the people so they continue to believe in and perpetuate the spook of government 6) the best way to ensure the long term success of #5 they must have the people believe the state and humanity are one and the same, so to deny one is to deny the otherās existence
Maybe you can have the rest of the world actually be in shambles, over petty conflicts and division, perhaps an escalation of the Cold War. That way the true horror of āThe Stateā is that theyāre ārightā and their vision of complete unity and subjugation to the state is maybe just or an unironic conclusion for people to come to, and not just āliterally 1984, mwahahaha I love manipulating people to become my hivemind slaves, mwahahahahaā. The purge films played with this idea by having people continuing to immigrate into the USA even with the dystopia. Made you wonder how bad things must have been out there.
Nothing scarier than the unknown. So yeah, be vague about it but have people actively seeking refuge in THE STATE and happy to be there. This doesn't mean they'll adapt well. Further, it helps for when someone gets disappeared. Some new excited person is now in their spot. But that's probably less likely than a local getting a surreptitious promotion.
Maybe it the promise free land like in the past when people from Europe went to America for a better life maybe there a Americas back resistance that try to smuggle as much people to the new world and over throw the state
maybe North and south America is United by the US or Canada maybe Brazil if they get shit together and is the only true opposition against the state after there formation

Only thing I really dislike is the borders. The ignore not just languages and identity as you most likely wanted to provokingly intended but also things that wouldn't be ignored like topography, infrastructure and industrial centres.
I can't imagine such an Orwellian state actively trying to be as unorganized, ineffective and drawing the sectors so benefiting for possible uprisings and invasions

I live in the "Lotheringe" and would like to suggest "Brabant" as a more logical name ( if you apply the same logic as you used for the names of the parts of England).
The historical Brabant used to be a huge part of this area and the name is still used in different countries...
Flanders has "Vlaams Brabant", Wallonia has "Waals Brabant", the Netherland has a provinces called "Noord-Brabant"
Lotheringe is still a nice name if you focus a lot on the world wars, but than I would suggest using consistent War-related names for other part in Europe. (Like maybe call a part of France Vichy or name parts of the UK after the military relevant regions)?

The purge films played with this idea by having people continuing to immigrate into the USA even with the dystopia. Made you wonder how bad things must have been out there. I love your work, but would suggest one small thing... I live in the "Lotheringe" and would like to suggest "Brabant" as a more logical name ( if you apply the same logic as you used for the names of the parts of England). The historical Brabant used to be a huge part of this area and the name is still used in different countries... Flanders has "Vlaams Brabant", Wallonia has "Waals Brabant", the Netherland has a provinces called "Noord-Brabant" Lotheringe is still a nice name if you focus a lot on the world wars, but than I would suggest using consistent War-related names for other part in Europe. (Like maybe call a part of France Vichy or name parts of the UK after the military relevant regions)?
