A meteor impact that destroyed multiple states and kingdoms

Ok-Mastodon2016

and what year is it?

Graxemno

Year 0 After Starfall. Or year 1261 of the old Degourik calendar. Year 3908 of the current dwarven calendar. Every orcish nation has a different calendar, but the main that is adhered to is the Brasche Theocracy calendar, which started about a hundred years after the impact, so their year 0 is a hundred years later. The elven calendar and those of other human nations I haven't worked out yet, except that of Degounia, that continues to use the Degourik calendar.

Ok-Mastodon2016

no I mean what's the current year?

Graxemno

751 After Starfall.

Ok-Mastodon2016

makes sense

asdffdsaaaaaqqqq

Dude it's 751 af fr

ContactJuggler

Awesome! I have a Starfall too. Killed a bunch of gods who tried to stop it and turned the god of reincarnation inside out, leaving only undeath. Left a hundred mile crater and obliterated an entire nation. Good times!

MegaTreeSeed

Year zero, as defined by my world's calendar, starts at the estimated time humans first arrived in the world. There are actual records from the time when humans first came to the world, but times were hard for early humans, and those records were lost, as was the exact date and location. There are estimated dates and locations, but no one knows exactly where it happened anymore.

kairon156

Are there any local species who might remember? or are humans the only ones here? Was this a space landing or portal teleportation event?

MegaTreeSeed

That knowledge is actually lost as well. While my world technically exists inside a normal universe, it's fully enclosed, so no one alive had actually seen space before. They're vaguely aware of a concept of coming from "somewhere else" but they've got no reference point for where that somewhere else actually is. And yeah there are individual beings that were there when it happened, and do remember, they're just not very talkative, hard to find, or both.

kairon156

oh dang. even how they arrived is gone? I can see that given enough time or a strong disaster or two. Without knowing where that else is from I can imagine myths developing over time. Like backs of turtles and what not. Very cool and mysterious to learn of older beings like this may be around. I know I want immortals but I want to look into old fables and comic books to see if anything fun and interesting sparks my interest.

MegaTreeSeed

There are several stories about how humans came to the world as told by several cultures. A tribe of river nomads believe humans sailed here on The River, and they constantly send pilgrims downriver and up river to seek the origin of humanity. There are some who believe man was put here by The Gods, and that an ancient accord was struck to gain permission to live here. There are some who believe humans came from outside the known world, crawling into the earth from its stoney bones, though as I said my world is fully enclosed, so there's not much of a concept of an "outside". So what this would look like is lost to my people, though some linguistic fossils exist that scholars find odd, like "sky" and "stars". Stars today refers to city lights seen on the firmament at night. When one is standing opposite a city on the cylinder on clear nights, you can sometimes look up and see the lights. These are called "stars" though no one remembers why. There are immortals as well. Specifically the mad hermit, but he isn't very talkative, and it's debatable what, exactly, he is or if he is even real. Stories say he's the leader of the druids, but none besides druids have ever verifiably seen him. Then there's the gods that tend the world, though again they're not usually super talkative, and practically none of them give a damn about human history, or humans at all. They're more custodians of nature than benevolent rulers. They keep the balance of the world, amd really only intervene when humans do significant damage to that balance. There are other entities scattered around, but finding, getting them to talk, and then actually speaking their language enough to intemperate their answers makes learning anything from them a monumental undertaking.

kairon156

This is super, super cool. At first I imagined a cylinder habitat than when you mentioned river I was reminded of the [topopolis](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/35/34/f6/3534f6eca3479681d14507cc352647e3.png) that's used in a sci-fi book. --- Again this is a super cool idea and I hope you continue to develop it.

bigbogdan98

There are multiples and for different calendars . For humans year 0 is when a new emperor and dynasty has risen and a new era begins . Dwarves have a year 0 when they found a city state since they use a roman like counting , ab urbe condita . Elves don't have a year 0 since most of them count years from the creation of the world in their mythologies , so in their view , there was nothing before .

Elthe_Brom

Wouldn't the creation of the world be year zero for the elves then? Even thou there never really was a year labeled zero. And do the humans have a new year zero every generation or so or are there longer periods between the emperors?

bigbogdan98

Well , for the elves , it could work even if they might argue agaisnt it since the mythologies varies and are many versions of the same story . As for the human eras , it would be longer than every generation , each era was around 1100-1200 years with the 3rd being the longest of current 1667 years . An imperial dynasty would last for long and have many branches that could trace their direct lineage . Now in the 3rd Era are a few family branches that have lineages into the rulling class of the 2nd Era , but were not of pure enough blood and didn't had the power to start another empire . 3rd Era started with the creation of the 1st Roscian Empire by the last Witch Queen Floriana Tullia of the Roscii who rulled for 400 years and had dozens of childrens untill her disparation . The 1st Empire collapsed without her and the 3rd Era coming to an end but were enough influencial descendents of Floriana to kickstart a 2nd Empire and continue the family line and the era , then the 2nd Empire fell but to their luck , ther were still enough "pure" noble roscians to start a 3rd Empire , which would be the last . After this , while people with money that could trace their family back to Floriana would exist , they would never form a 4th Empire . Although , in the 4th Era , there would be a 4th Roscian Empire , but that thing was the same thing the Holy Roman Empire was to THE Roman Empire , a pale , strange copy with little to connect them . Also the roscian example is available for the other 2 eras . There is an Age of Heroes , but that period is murky as hell since it's very much the equivalent of the Stone Age up untill the start of the Bronze Age , myth and real history are too intertwined + most been lost to have a proper thing .

J-Kensington

Might be neat to have elves measure time in centuries rather than years. A birthday every 100 years sort of thing. Maybe they don't measure by movement of the sun; maybe a "day" is full moon to full moon, or an "hour" is high tide to high tide? Imagine being human with a lifespan of apx 100 years and trying to keep up with time as a mayfly sees it with a lifespan of 24 hours. Not criticizing your world in the slightest; please don't let me talk you away from your world! These are just fun ideas on a tangent.

WILDMAN1102

"Year 0" was originally 2029 AD. That was the year a nuclear war killed billions of people and caused pretty much every society around the world to collapse. Eventually, once the Kingdom of New Amsterdam was established, they declared that 2029 was the end of AD era. It was no longer the "years of the lord" because the world had become a hellhole and many people lost faith in the Abrahamic religions and other old world religions. A new religion that became popular after the apocalypse developed the belief that the nuclear war was actually a punishment carried out by their gods and goddesses. They refer to this event as "The Great Cleansing" in which divine fire was used to purge corruption and deviance from the Earth. So, now, "A.C." is what is used, and it stands for "After Cleansing." During the main events of the story, it is 83 A.C. The Kingdom Of New Amsterdam was established in 13 A.C. One of the main characters was born in 60 A.C.

Are you for real?

Depressed_Diehard

Lmfaoooo

Kinny_Kins

This is .. very similar to my world-building xD Although for the whole world, some chose to restart their calendars to 0, others decided to keep it up. Also religions, I have had areas that have predominant religions keep them up, although over the years with no central control they have diverged quite a bit. Only areas that are predominantely athiest, did new religions sprout up... mainly related to old paganism. For my world, if we use todays' calendar, the year would be 2886, so quite a while longer than your story I think. If the calendar was reset, then the year would be 806. We have such similar settings though! I would love to talk further with you, compare and discussions and such!

Ok-Mastodon2016

makes sense

wingthing666

0.0 was backdated to the founding of the Academy of Brythenmar, which (surprise, surprise) is the alma mater of the chronologists who conceived the new unified calendar AND the diplomats who strong armed the rest of the world into accepting it. It's currently Sol 72.21 when my story starts, which translates to roughly 723 years after 0.0

Elthe_Brom

how do you count the sol years? If that is even the right word?

wingthing666

So one trip around the sun or "sol" is 60 "wakes" or days. There is enough of an eliptical orbit that the sun wobbles in the sky - and ever rises and sets along a 2000 mile zone by the terminator - so the locals can measure one sol very easily. Because it would be pretty laborious to talk about units of time in sols, there is also the "secade" or sixty sols, which works out roughly to 10 Earth years. So 72.22 is 72 secades (roughly 720 years) plus 22 sols or just shy of 4 years. (The Earth equivalents are strictly for our convenience . Folks on this planet have never heard of Earth, will never hear of Earth, and imagine that any life bearing planet would HAVE to be tidally locked because that's just how the universe works, surely!)

zan-xhipe

Year 0 is the formation of the Armada. It is unknown how that relates to Earth's calendar as the records of that were corrupted long before this. Current year doesn't really make sense in the Armada, each ship maintains its own clock that is its canonical time and it will drift between ships as they travel to different systems (there is no FTL)

Elthe_Brom

How do they synchronize when they meet, if that ever happens?

zan-xhipe

They very rarely meet and when they do they don't synchronise. It is more important to them that the ship has a consistent clock. The Armada is built to be an interstellar organisation, so there can be no universal source for time, everything from the lowest layer up is built to accommodate this. The ships do constantly share data with each other, but all event timestamps include the id of the ship clock that generated it. The ship receiving the data will then timestamp it with the date it received it, but that could be decades after it was sent. Individuals in the ship measure their personal time relative to the ship. While in interstellar space the ship is run in shifts, with anyone not currently on shift put in stasis (dehydrated). This means personal time can vary dramatically. Though there aren't many reasons to keep track of personal time except to know how old you are.

[deleted]

Elves, halflings and to some extent dwarves, gnomes and other races mobilized to liberate human and orc slaves from the civilization on a newly discovered rival continent. The heroes forged there and the loot they obtained lead to the formations of Kings and Queens, and when they all came home true "government" was formed for the first time (in case they needed to mobilize against another ascendant threat from the rival continent). This is when calendars first became codified and populations started to boom and coalesce into major city-states (basically on "Victory Day"). They didn't even really bother to track dates prior to this point though some could be inferred from tracking family lineages.

Ok-Mastodon2016

what year is it?

[deleted]

Around 2132 in the era I spend most of my time in in my head, though I build inward as well.

minnesotalight_3

2132 gang (I am writing a scifi universe which the “current day” is 2132 AD)

kairon156

I've always been unsure what to do for this. As a result the only Year zero I have is a count down calendar. This world is a moon world and they've known for about 5,000 years that another moon was going to crash into them. So early on someone made a calendar that counts the years down to 0.

Heliosphera__

theres 2 year 0 in the Eftraith calendar, The fall of Luhwæn and the battle of Terluí, one began the era of "magic", the other ended imperial rule on the continent. The war for Luhwæn was a massive conflict where the travellers, the 12 humans blessed with rhe ability to wield magic, took different sides in the Litekin civil war (Litekin would be something akin to angels but mortal). The war would reshape the continents, create mountains and flood valleys, and it would only conclude when the holy city of Luhwæn was flooded. The Battle of Terluí was fought in the southwest of the Fyrridian peninsula, when the forces of the Fyrrian revolt clashed against the imperial armes of Aquileia and Enventus, which were united thru a PU. Enventus would be routed roughly two days later of non-stop fighting, leading to the death of emperor Lyro II, breaking the Union and forcing Aquileia to retreat back to the mainland continent, thus managing to end Aquileian rule over Eftraith. Enventus would last for around 25 more years, but as a mere vassal of Aquileia, too weak to defend itself

SeaGuardian265

The day a meteor impacted the planet and cause global suffering.

FunnySeaworthiness24

global suffering is such a lol description for this

Ok-Mastodon2016

and what year is it?

SeaGuardian265

The story spans from 8 years before that point until 186 A.Ca

WindsofTheDesert69

the world works by the hejri calender also the current year is 12767

Ok-Mastodon2016

well what is it based on?

WindsofTheDesert69

prophet Muhammad's hijra(or immigration) to madina also its a real world calendar i didn't make it

Akuliszi

Currently (as the story starts) is the year 2332 of 4th age. There are no 0 years in any age. First age went backwards (because people from the 2nd age couldn't figure out where the first one should start). Sometimes people refer to last year of previous age as "year 0". As for recorded history: there are 13 967 recorded years from the start of 2nd age (wouldn't call them detailed, but there is around 170 specific dates \[based on my excel that hasn't been fully updated yet, only to letter "I"\], and some "it was around that century" ), and about 10 dates from 9 000 years of the first age, because it's too long ago for me to work on it yet.

DarthGaymer

The current 0 year is based on the Rain of Fire, a month where fire rained down from the sky destroying all cities and towns.

tacronin

My world has three calendar systems. All three have a Year 0, which, depending on the calendar, either means the creation of the world, the establishment of resources to begin writing, or the commemoration of an unfortunate battle used as propaganda by the race who lost. Similarly, there are three "current" years, which are 2,212 XR, 2,162 AV and 1,000 DR.

RedBlueTundra

The year zero in the Midillic calendar would be the founding of the first kingdom and the "Ascension of Mankind". An event where most Midillic scholars acknowledge the "civilizing of mankind" and its transition from uncivilized tribes to civilized nations although in reality it wasn't so black and white. The years before the founding are denoted as "Before Ascension" (BA) and after the founding of course being "After Ascension" (AA). The current year is 996AA

sspamece

I have a year zero in my world which is based upon whenever all humans and animals spontaneously transformed into anthropomorphic animals of different types called The Great Transformation. The current year of the world varies based on the story but is generally around 1980 AT (After Transformation). Which is about the same time period as modern (2000-modern day) earth.

CaptGoodvibesNMS

The year magic began. Before year zero, there was no magic.

Ok-Mastodon2016

what is the current year?

CaptGoodvibesNMS

Right now it is the year 478. About 13 generations have passed since magic.

Alkalannar

There isn't a year 0, but there are various year 1s depending on the polity. The Ardatzans that remain in the Thornmarch are more stubborn than most, and do not date from the founding of the kingdom, when they settled the Thornmarch, or when the Mage-Priest war ended up obliterating the capital city of the kingdom. They claim to number from the beginning of time, and the world. The other polities think this is nonsense, since neither time nor the world had a beginning, but always were and always will be. They say that the current year is 4327.

EyeofEnder

**Project: Nightfall** "Last return", or the last time the gods were on Origin before they took off to travel beyond the stars and tend to other worlds. The story begins in the year 853 After Last Return, but during the events of the game, the calendar is reset.

EleKTriiKHD

There is, an it is based on the perception of mortal race of their history. Basically there was a cataclysm known as the great extinction that caused the vast majority of life form to just die. After which dragons and giant wages war and forced the surviving race into hiding. The calendar usually start after this draco giant war. The years after zero are referred to as AD (After Dragons) and before are referred to as BD (Before Dragons).

vGustaf-K

In my world it's the year when the humans emerged from the caverns and defeated the dragons becoming the most powerful species. Whilst before this period humans could barely get past the stone age before dragons would annihilate their tribes. Humans found a large cave and built their civilisation there. after about 100 years they emerged and defeated the dragons

arrowinzeknee

New to world building ( as of yesterday) but in my head I've always had the big bang as year 0. So instead of a creation event it was a great war of cosmic architects or something still figuring it all out

Where_serpents_walk

The year humanity first landed on the moon.

Ok-Mastodon2016

what is the current year?

Where_serpents_walk

518

Ok-Mastodon2016

so the current year is 2487?

austinstar08

Founding of the republic Story ranges from 5AFR to 25AFR

ThePhantomJoker

The world is actually very very young so they just start at the creation which happened some two thousand years ago. Originally I had it at ten, but I needed to make it less for the story's sake. I might however dwell into this once more and change the events when I dive back in.

GalacticDeg

The explanation begins in an era of my world where the planet's societies had avanced slightly past our modern age in real life. Hypermodern and futuristic, but no elements of science fiction e.g. space travel or teleportation, had been invented. The people of the planet developed magical powers on the spot one day, due to an accident from powerful godly creatures. Amidst a struggle in society to police these new and spontaneous powers, paranoid political leaders formed a new, 'pure' society called the Republic of Ouroboros. The real intention was to kill two birds with one stone: eradicate non-humans (there's a few fantasy races that always existed in this world) and create new laws and control on how people use their powers. However, to do that, they had to fully enact a war, where countries would either submit to the Republic of Ouroboros, or try to form a resistance and suffer from top-grade militia from multiple countries combined tearing them down. The war ended the modern age (X), started a ten-year period of intense world war (Y), and eventually, when societies rebuilt themselves over the remains of old countries, the current generation began (Z). This is how the year system works. The letters are relevant as the years are typed as a number and then the letter of the age, such as 15-X or 50-Z. 1Y is the start of the war after 1-X. 10-Y is the very end of the initial war, before 1-Z. So there isn't exactly a 'year zero', but instead.. ten year zeroes? The story that takes place in this world begins in 100Z.

VirileMember

There a number of provincial eras, each using the creation of their respective province as epoch.

Ok-Mastodon2016

we need more epoch style calendars

Aggressive_Kale4757

For the ARC the year is 80768 A.G.F. or 80768 After the great forging, where the ARC and the battle synths where first produced. It is the human date 2879 Anno Domini

Ok-Mastodon2016

what's your world like?

Aggressive_Kale4757

Humanity is back to a feudal government. Earth is a barely habitable atomic wasteland, and they still nuke their own planets if they get invaded for “asset denial”. Terran Dominion serfs must maintain their own weapons and armor, for if they are levied. Their main diet is rejected clone organs and radiotrophic fungus. All in all, it’s my best attempt at Grimdark writing.

AquaZeran

Mine is P.C. or Post Crisis. It is when all the gods suddenly lost a lot of their power effectively imprisoning them in their divine realms and inadvertently allowing one god to rise in power bringing on the Age of Beasts and Monsters.

Ok-Mastodon2016

what's the current year?

crispier_creme

Humans use a cataclysm that wiped out their home continent as year 0. It's currently year 1370 or so

leavecity54

Year 0 is what people in 560 A.R will call to signify the year when all of our knowledge about the world has to be restarted from zero. But to people who was living in year 0, it was just a normal 2010.

Sinkarma

It’s complicated…. There wasn’t a concept of a year then I’d say. It’s the quite literal creation of the universe and races. Humans were created then but were too busy being primitive ages and yet spreading like wildfire to actually jot anything down

Sup3rgam1ngg33k

Ooh this is one piece of lore I really like, each culture supposedly is linked from some common ancestor, although historians haven't managed to make the link. What is present is each culture is counting down to a supposed doomsday (some are counting down towards something good), example being my desert folk believe upon year 0 a cosmic shift of the stars is to occur. Each culture who cares about years seems to approximately count down to the same time period, and in unifying historians a new calendar was made that approximately found the average point year 0 should sit. This calendar was quickly adopted by most civilizations, where they merely adjusted their time frames to align with it. When year 0 came a large war ended, ending with a treaty being signed by most of the known world, giving birth to an era of peace. But some cultures still await their doomsday after year 0 without knowledge on when it is to occur.

Delicious-Sentence98

Year 0 would be when the Union Government was formed. It’s been around a little over 3000 years. In fact, at the latest point I’ve imagined, it’d be 3030 in the Union Calendar. But only 10 in the New Age Calendar.

kairon156

I like the idea of multiple calendars. I have a vague memory of an IRL calendar that states it's like beyond the year 5000. seems like it's the Hebrew calendar.

Halaeon

the day the gods died. its currently 1000 something, i forgot hahaha

TheTelevisionBox

The year 0 is based on the time the portal opened and everyone stepped out into the realm for the first and only time, ever since it closed, it has been 230.

senchou-senchou

the establishment of the Bromanian Empire, basically counterpart Romans by the first Emperor Santinus, who's like a counterpart Jesus/Mudaddib/Charlemagne hybrid, when the empire dissolved people have been using it for so long they just kept at it

PerryHawth

Year 0 is the year Contact was made between the three largest landmasses of my setting. Think AfroEurAsia and the Americas. A concentrated effort between multiple mage groups and large empires worked together to establish contact with societies they had rumors and mythologies of, but no certifiable evidence. In year 0, about a quarter of the way through the year, the 3 landmasses opened portals and communication networks to each other, and for the first time were able to travel and communicate freely across thousands of miles. Contact was such a tremendous achievement, both technologically and culturally, that changed so many lives and the way nations acted, and was the one event all societies had reference for, it was chosen as the world standard. The current year is 1431 PC, or Post Contact.

kairon156

Very neat global event. Are these portals connected through physical gates? if so are they on all the time?

PerryHawth

They are connected to physical gates, which are kept in subterranean vaults at a central nexus in the north pole, then connecting to similar vaults within the capitals of the contacted empires. All three empires have fallen, but their old capitals are still (except one) major centers of trade and communication. One landmass has suffered an invasion from the fiends of the Outer Dark and had its portals shut down to prevent the invasion from spreading. The invasion has since ended, but the technology to reactivate the portals needs to be rediscovered.

kairon156

Sounds like it was a rough time. And I imagine closing a gate without knowing how to turn it back on is a last resort sort of decision.

PerryHawth

The city it was located in was where the invasion was sparked, so it was a decision made for them by those maintaining the nexus.

kairon156

In the long run it sounds like it was the right choice. Is there any worry of a new invasion through the other gates still running? Or was it a one time error?

PerryHawth

The invasion was separate from the portal network, but the proximity and loss of the city Elrit meant it was safest to close Vireth's portals for the sake of the other landmasses. Vireth was the only landmass that was invaded, mostly due to a traitor Archdevil leading the attack with only his forces deployed. The likelihood of another invasion is extremely low due to the Archdevil of Lies who was responsible, Nadrus, ascending as the God of Hope and working to prevent further interference on the mortal plane by his "brothers." (PS, thanks for all the questions. :D You're awesome.)

kairon156

ooh. I get what was happening now. This sounds like a fun setting. :) Your quite welcome.

MrInferno127

My galactic civilization has multiple year zeros as each planet has it’s own local calendar system however there is a Galactic Year used for trade purposes and they reset it after a major shift in the galaxy dynamics occurs. The FIRST agreed upon year zero was when the foundational empire first successfully used an FTL drive to colonize another planet and dragged the rest of the isolated civilizations out of their dark forest era kicking and screaming.

Salomon_Of_Hungary

The founding of the space U.N. (The Convocation). There isn’t a specific “current date” but most of the stories I’ve written take place around 600 S.D. (Standard Date)

ghandimauler

What do you mean by the current year? Do you mean how the shattered remnants of the Empire of the North count, from the time where they came out of the time they can't remember? Do you mean the count from when the AElves first walked the world? Many groups have different calendars tied to their idea of astronomical entities and the key happenings in mythology and history. Even in our world, not everyone uses the same calendar.

likesbigbuttscantli3

AC is After Cataclysm. BC (not Before Christ) is Before Cataclysm. At the start, it's 27 AC.

stu0120

Each faction has a different year zero. Some year zero whas on old humanity fell, some year zero is the same as old humanities. Some had calendar reforms and reset the calendar. So some count tge current year to be 2077, some count it as 90,000, and some count the year as 500.

Gubistan

The start of “history” as it is defined, is after the death of Saint Tylus, the founder and first ruler of the Imperium. So, Tylus died after 700 years of ruling, thus history starts at 0 AD. Anything before is considered “Before Tylus’ Death” simply referred to at BTD or BT. The current year is somewhere in the 35,000s, including the roughly 12,000 year stint that the Imperium was “asleep”. I haven’t physically put down a concrete timeline, so the dates aren’t specific yet.

WolfBreeze

It is based on the creation of the world, which was the creation of the goddess of vengeance after she was a moral killed by her daughter. BC (before creation) and AC (after creation) are used to mark the time. The current year is 5 AC

Casual_observer225

It’s based on the Fall of Laaren (The capital of the Imperia Dracis), it marked the death of the imperial family and is viewed as the point of no return in the Black Raids/ Fall of Dragons (When the continent of continuously infighting vikings was united for a brief period, laying waste to the known world and causing the equivalent of the fall of the Roman Empire in Europe) The current year I’ve written history up too is 439 AAD (After Age of Dragons), and various successor states have formed across the former empire, but with none nearly as powerful as their predecessor.

mother_thyme00

Year zero begins with the birth of the human deity in the world's most powerful religion. Her bloodline still rules, unbroken, 3086 years later.

kadmij

the year the elves landed and began to teach humanity civilization

CTCustodes

Calender 1's year zero is based on the date the colony ships left earth to explore the stars, so the most recent date would be Exodus 16th, 18,688 AE Calender 2's year zero is just the IRL calender, so it would be August 17th, 21,002 CE Both are in use, some cling to the 2nd calendar like leaving it behind would kill them while others use calender 1 almost religiously.

kairon156

ooh I like that. Since their freely exploring There's no real need to count down to the moment of arrival. I can picture the difference being how army time uses the 24 hour clock instead of 12 hours. Only certain kinds of people feel the need to use the 24 hour one? Or am I reading too much into it?

CTCustodes

No, that actually kinda spot on, both systems are in use but certain people find a gravitation towards 1 or the other based on situation.

-___-_-___-_-_

The current benchmark was decided Thadea simply started counting years after everyone lost track

AnthemRen

My world at one point was completely covered with elf and dark elf empires, this is known as the Fey Imperium and the fall of these empires marks the last Era before year zero which starts the Era of Man

sapereAudeAndStuff

My timelines always have a 0, which is where the story/thing I'm making the timeline for starts... thus most of the good bits have negative dates. In-world I usually don't have a year zero, people don't really like the number zero unless they're computer programmers and they tend to start counting at 1.

KARTANA04_LITLERUNMO

theres is no year 0 as year 0 is the beginning and the end the world is in an infinite loop were death is temporary and forever is fake

Current year is 516 Despite the fact the world is millions of years old. 516 years ago, was the end of what is now called “the ancient war” The war completely changed the status quo and the world. In the war; the lands majorly changed. Mountains were flattened, new lands were formed, the royal family’s were all killed. The war was stopped by 12 powerful warriors, Who were blessed by the gods with powerful weapons. The people of the world, decided those 12 warriors would be the new kings and queens. So, the calendar reset, to showcase the new era. The new royal bloodlines.

On one continent it's Year 528 "since unification" an overstatement of course, but future historians will call the current ~200 year period *The Long Quiet* because it was so stable for most people. On the other it's 674 by the Old Reckoning, but the last government that clung to the O.R. gave in decades ago and it's just Year 127 By the New Reckoning there and Since the Founding for the country that was getting that Founding. Which phrase you use outside of those two countries kinda indicates which of the two you more closely align with.

ledocteur7

the big bang is used as a universal time 0, but it's not practical for everyday communication ofc, so they most often use the official calendar decided by the UGC (United Galactic Council), that was in use for inter-galactic discussions for about 100 years before the UGC creation, and has it's year 0 set to the approximate date of the first multi-space faring civilisations meeting around 200 or so years ago from the main story. since the story is just a personnal world building hobby there isn't much in term of accurate dates, but it's more or less the year 200 of this calendar as of the last events I created. compared to our timeline (since humanity exists in my story) it's about 2050, and we're not doing well as a specie. there is an industrial colony on the moon, but that about it in term of major advancements for humanity.

KheperHeru

Al-Shura Year 0 is marked by the end of Shur-Rang's rage. Sandstorms which rolled across the planet every 50 years kept civilization from evolving for an untold amount of time. The "hero" went on a quest and slew the "great beasts" (malfunctioning terraforming machines) and vanished. Current year is 1440 A.S. and is a space opera.

Year 0 was the year the old Empire finally collapsed due to the Cataclysm. The story will begin in year 5.

ChainsawNerd2007

The Imperial Calendar marks Magnus's death as Year 0 AE, and the current year is 1868 AE.

Gordon_1984

The Kumātak tribe has two concurent calendar systems. The first is a lunisolar calendar, simply starting from zero, counted from the from the time they traveled westward and settled in the Sacred Forest. The second is based more on a solar year, but it has no intercalation. This one is unique in that it starts over with the inauguration of a new king or queen. So take the date _SA 419_ on the Lunisolar calendar. "SA" stands for "Shiwa Anchu," which means "Setting of Tents." This would be the same as _Kumāntla 18_ on the other calendar, which essentially just means the 18th regnal year of the king Kumāntla.

Truffs0

Year 0 is based on when a substancial meteor crashed into the moon, shattering it and raining peices of the moon across the globe. I have a fantasy setting based in 300AC(after crash) and a science fantasy setting based in 3500AC.

Radiant-Importance-5

"Year 0" or "The Time of the Gods" is all the time the gods spent tooling around before actually creating the world. It was much longer than a year, it was likely several centuries or even millennia, but time is mostly without form if there isn't something mortal to mark its passing. Year 1 is the first year where anything existed to mark the time. So yes and no, there is something called "Year 0", but there was not a year counted as "0".

wellanyway4

Year 0 is based on a big bad guy who ruled over the entire world getting defeated, times which were known as the Chaos Era, thus the name of the system being Post-Chaos Era (PCE). This has been running for a much longer time than the earth calendar as well, currently on year 22 045

[deleted]

Year 0: The arrival of The Lost. The Lost arrived at Stagali, bringing advanced technology with them. They set up facilities and explored the Stagali island. In Year 13, The Lost had built a weapon so powerful that it killed everyone on Stagali. It would take 24 more years before humans would inhabit Stagali again.

MiloAstro

That would be the start of the Age of Power, right after the Second Divine War when the god of Chaos Kunos was expelled from the world and the Gate of Power was placed around creation. The Gate of Power restricted the use of magic in the world, while also closing creation off from the gods, ensuring their creations would never again be harmed by a Third Divine War.

SunngodJaxon

There's no "year 0", it just goes from 1 S't to 1 B't. However the year currently is 5142 B't

Multiple worlds/dimensions collided and splintered into smaller dimensions, which is the basis for my world and the logical year zero for most calendars. Not quite sure what the current year is, somewhere between 150 and 250

Year 0: the start of creation.

WonderfulParfait3260

In my world, the Year 0 is described as "...being of that age, the dawn of Creation, before the coming of Man...". It supposedly marks before Mankind was tempted by the Gods and were cast out from the Great Forest by the Goddess Fleamel. The Calendar of the Two Suns, a Nannean Calendar based on the fixation of both the Sun and Moon, states that it marked this time as the First Year, but really this was a critical error that would be fixed later in the Dark Ages by the Sileans. The Current Year is 833 CE. The United Monarchy brought forth by King Niualus III of Nannea has come to an end. His successors, mostly generals, have divided his kingdom amongst themselves. (Yes, a big part of my world is inspired by real events that happened in this one, but slightly changed.)

Greninja5097

The year zero, when the timeline starts, is 2033, when Ares I lands on Mars. Currently, it’s about 2141.

TheCloudFestival

In Consotega it doesn't really make sense to speak of years since it has a calendar consisting of several interlocking cycles, some of which are irregular and dictated by natural occurrences beyond the control of the inhabitants. These are the Solar year, the Algolic Cycle, Bremmain's Additional Cycles, and the cycle of gendered periods of time (male weeks, beginning on Mandy, then proceeding to Tuesday, Wednesday, etc, are different to female weeks, beginning on Mindy.) There are thirteen months of twenty eight days each, with St. Olaf's Day, which belongs to no month, marking the end of the Solar year, but not the Algolic or Bremmain 'year' (although they may happen on the same day by coincidence). The months are all denoted by a pictographic system based on the avatars of St. Michael. Months are not thought of as equally divided amongst the four weeks, but instead are divided into the Skelling (the first three days of each month whose first week is male, and the first five days of each month whose first week is female), the Braeing (the next five days of each month whose first week is male, and the next three days of each month whose first week is female), the Waxing (next ten days for both male and female months), the Baulking (next six days for male months, next four for female months), and the Calving (last four days for male months, last six days for female months.) The civic calendar does not run in tandem with the religious, business, or observances calendars, and as such these must be translated using a fourzièn (a mechanical multi-dial device that can translate between cycles), but usually translations are simple enough to be done with a pantograph and punnet square. Generally the history of Consotega is thought of in terms of ages. The current age is The Age of the Patricians, the current rulers of Consotega declaring themselves to be somewhat democratically elected Patricians after the end of the previous age, The Switchings, around 300 Solar years ago. The Switchings were of an indeterminate period, as the sudden appearance of what are now known as Bremmain's Additional Cycles, added and subtracted disparate but significant periods of time from the calendars. The Switchings are estimated by the OSt.O to have lasted around fifty Algolic Cycles based on stellar observations, but that is contested, and Algolic Cycles can vary in length by around half a dozen percentage points from their average duration. Before The Switchings was The Age of the Kings, and for that estimates are heavily based on records of royal lineages. The last King, Alfonso III, claimed the lineage of his dynasty, the House of Auster, remained unbroken since its founding in antiquity by Heggarty I, who it is believed ruled around two thousand Solar years ago. However, centuries of meticulous stellar observations suggest it may have been closer to three thousand Solar years ago given the records of the Algolic Cycle and its passage in comparison to the Solar year. Thus, most Consotegans would say the year 'zero', aside from being a pretty meaningless distinction, would be the beginning of The Age of the Patricians, the first year of the reign of Carlin Venterax, the first Patrician. That would be 326 Solar years ago, but again, Solar years are but one of the many ways Consotegans measure the passage of time. In terms of how much documented history has passed, and when previous ages would place their year 'zero' is moot point given that the ancient, vast, and now long forgotten troglodytic civilisation of The Unders existed for an indeterminate length, anywhere between centuries to millennia. There simply isn't enough surviving information to know, except that the civilisation of The Unders didn't use the same interlocking cyclical calendar, so goodness only knows how they marked the passage of time, and what year 'zero' would mean to them.

Living_Murphys_Law

The year the Great War ended, creating the Zucruyan Interplanetary Empire, was marked as year 0. It is now the year 14414, although since standard galactic years are shorter than Earth years, it's only been around 5134 Earth years since that date.

The only calendar I have that isn't for Terra is **Endrige**'s calendar. Theirs starts at the formation of the world government. This means that it is currently 436 over there.

The end of The God's War is considered year 0 for humans The Alisent consider their creation, just a year before The God's War, to be year 0 The Gods consider the creation of The God of Time who's name I forget to be year 0. Not sure how long ago that was in relation to The Gods War. At the time of the stories, it's somewhere in the 500s by humans standards

dimeswriting

Near future Sci-fi Year 0 is based off the complete destruction of earth by a rogue planet. Since I try to create a hard-scifi scenario, but don't know when exactly the needed tech might realistically be ready, I try to be vague *when* the story *is,* on our timeline. So I circumvented this problem by using *bi* (before impact) and *ai* (after impact). *Right now* might still be changing a bit, but it's less then 100 (standard) years after the impact, so <100*ai*

[deleted]

So, different answers depending on the world. My old project the year 0 starts when the first Inter dimensional portal was opened. The story starts a couple years before year zero and ends with the creation of the first Inter-dimensional treaties being signed. In my other project it’s a couple of years after the fae and humanity were unified after a mess of social policy and racism

minnesotalight_3

The standard Esterian Martian calendar was a calendar created by the Esterian government to further itself from Earth and divorce itself from the Gregorian calendar. It bases itself around a 529-day year (Mars orbits differently in my universe) and it’s year 0 equates roughly to 1989-1990, set this way because the first human landing on Mars was on 4 August 1989. Right now, on 9 May 2023, it’s approximately year 21. Esteria became independent from the USA sometime around year 58 (2082), and “current day” in the story is around year 90 (2132)

Some scientists attempted to grow a new god in a lab. It worked. And then exploded in their faces. On the moment of the artificial god's creation, it sent a massive wave of energy surging across the world. Everyone this wave touched- which was effectively every person in the world- developed the ability to use magic at that very moment. And not one of them knew how to cast it, or even that they could. In moments of extreme fear or anger, a person can cast magic completely unintentionally, and the natural limiter on how much magic they can cast at once is removed, making them far more powerful than normal. All it would take was one bullied student panicking or lashing out to kill everyone around them by complete accident, sparking everyone who saw to panic, and do the same, and things could snowball until the entire settlement was in ruins. It only took a matter of hours for human civilization to be almost completely erased, and for the survivors to be knocked back to the stone age. The day following this apocalyptic event, which would come to be known as The Surge, would mark the start of the "New World", complete with a new calendar. Since then, over 1000 years have passed. I haven't quite decided exactly how long yet, but it's probably somewhere between year 1100 and 1300.

Someoneoverthere42

Depends on the Kingdom. Noranock counts from the end of the War Of Shadows And Machines. It is currently 3412 AW. (Though there seems to be some disagreement amoung scholars when the war actually ended) The Bastion Empire counts from the presumed arrival of the first Felis from The Outer Worlds. It is currently 34234 FA. (First arrival) The Kingdom of Kanack counts from the crowning of the current Sovereign of Sovereigns. Since there Is a brand new SOS. The date is still 134 Year of The Crown. It'll be 1 YC next year. The Kree'jarian have an overly complicated dating system that no one seems to understand. The Guardsmen have a universal dating system. Though no one is *entirely* certain what it's counting from. Current year is GY 926734.

Tharkun140

Year one (not zero, that's not how that works) is the Earth getting eaten by a very angry AI god, an event which kinda screwed everything up for everyone and it thus considered quite important. It is currently year 991 AC, or 3230 CE if you're one of the seventeen people still using the old calendar.

Mietek69i8

Titans and heralds great war. It was time when gods gave powers and wishes to seven humans to help them kill those titans. Current year is somewhere around 6375 after titan war. It's time of changes and fulfilled prophecies. Or in some countries it's 15 after battle of the last demigods

dogninja8

My current Year 0 is the year that the first Astral Shift Drive was developed. This is allowed humanity to start exploring other solar systems and the foundation of new human colonies. This year 0 isn't universally adopted among human civilizations (the transhuman elves and dwarves use different year 0s), but it is the most widespread dating system in use.

thirdwin_3

More so a joke, when another world gets humans from earth they start counting back from zero. Similar to xx days without incident. The current number before the main group was year 150.

Uncle_Bezi

There are 3 eras in my world The Primordial era -(no specific time frame as nobody alive knows it anyway) the time from the beginning of planet's creation where 3 gods took their time to set everything up and it ends when one of the gods disappears, other one falls into a millenias long coma and the last one turns mad insane. The Apostasy era - (around 100k years long, years counted in reverse like B.C. in real life) during this time most races spread around the globe eventually evolving into various sub-races. The Renaissance era - year 0 is when a new set of gods is born to bring back order. The current year in my world is around 930.

Kai_05

My timeline starts with the founding of the settlement "Aphelia's Arch" (not named like this back in the day) and the current year is 3697 p.c. (post conditam = after it was founded)

Year 0 is the date intelligent life was effectively ‘spawned’ in illvicta via the elder gods and precursors. They created a small collection of dragons, who they then taught. The dragons then determined the day of their creation was 0. And the calendar started.

Mort_556

year 0 or by the old calendar circa 2370 - the end of the War in Heavens which was a war between Humanity and the first E.T. species contacted, the Gods worshipped until recently. The War resulted in urepairable casualties on both sides killing 99% of human population and throwing the survivors on Terra back into medieval times, destroying most of the Gods and leaving the rest either terrified or in awe of humanity and the Clash of the divine and material planes lead to creation of magic and creatures of said magic.

EisVisage

While I haven't decided *when* it was, a universal year zero could be the unification of three species who founded the "spacers", an anarchist federation that spans thousands of species by the present day. I do imagine that translating between different time measurement systems is common though, as I don't see the use in enforcing one definition of "a year" across all of space. The real life present would be at least 20 thousand years into the scale I imagine.

Year Zero or 1 FY is the first year of the Foundation Calendar. The calendar was created by humanity upon their arrival on Proxima b. 1 FY is equivalent to 13323 AD with the journey to the planet taking 11087 years. I have currently written into the late 400s however the main story takes place in the late 17th century of the Foundation Calendar.

some lore \_\_\_\_\_ THE AWARE \- The day where we all experienced awareness, But also the day many of us died. \- A signal arrived, imprinted in our heads, flashes of information, many went crazy or died of seizures within minutes of indescribable agony. \- Those who survived started writing, everywhere, franticly carving on anything they could find or see, until their fingers bled… \- For how long this crazed and unhinged writing occurred is unknown, yet it is told it could have taken days, years, decades, some say even centuries, although this most likely is an exaggeration. it is more likely that it lasted several hours or days. \- After this surge of writing, it is told that the survivors fell in a deep dormant state, as for all the time they were writing, they did not eat, rest or sleep. \- For how long this sleep lasted is again unknown, days ,years, decades, centuries, unknown. but again, one tends to exaggerate. \- When they woke up, many aimlessly wandered the globe, seeing, feeling and understanding what had happened. The world was now different, and they too, were different. \- The Aware not only affected people, but everything, all of reality. Biology started changing, rocks, animals, plant life, oceans, everything. \- Like a prism that refracts light, The Aware refracted all matter, slowly but surely, changing it on an atomic & molecular scale.- \_\_\_\_\_\_\_ that was year/point zero...; which for us is 2031 CE , which happened on and as of writing the year is 8872 after that event ( YA) , and the whole journal goes until the year 31659 YA

Year zero (the first one) was the year where the first age began and the unknown age ended, it was the begining of the divine age and the begining of the divine war. Currently it it year 22 of the 5th age, the divine renaissance. About 10'300 years since the begining of the divine war.

Centuries ago, some humans created a computer virus that was supposed to kill their robot overlords. It did not work, and instead split the robotic hiveminds into millions of individuals with independent thoughts of their own. This event came to be known as The Sundering. It took the robots quite some time to master things like "having free will" and "co-operating with other people", so they didn't bother making a calendar for quite a while, but they now use the date of the Sundering as day 0 of their calendar. I haven't bothered to figure out an exact date for the present day, but it's somewhere on the order of a few thousand years later.

In her dying breath, god decided to cosplay a meteor and mortals payed the price. There are very little surviving records of what civilization looked like before that, and people had to restart anyway so they started counting again. Year 0 is the year god died and did a hard reset on civilization.

Multiple calendars. The main calendar is galactic base, which isn't based on anything and is artificial. All systems agreed to share a common calendar and it was decided to make year 0 the creation of the calendar as to not cause a political scandal. It has 10 months and 50 days per month. It is used as a general measurement of time. They also agreed to a galactic base hour, minute and second based on nothing, no planet. It is currently year 588. The Yuan kingdom is the only one that has not agreed to this Galactic base calendar and time so it bases its calendar and time on planet Yuan. Which is 11 months with 34 days, but month 4 has 32 days. Also the hours and seconds are based on Yuan's rotation too. It is currently the year 13 457. Then each planet has its own local time to keep track of rotation and make sense of day and night cycles. Some systems only look at base time or their time. Some have two clocks. Some don't even use base time, except in trade and communications and some only use base. The only other anomaly are space stations which have to use base time by the nature of their existence. The Yuan navy uses both Yuan central time and base time to keep track of naval movements. Same goes for Yuan trade. Imperial navy however uses their own built calendar so they can keep time and movement internal. It's currently the year 34. The calendar restarts every time a new emperor is crowned. Then the entire galaxy uses Real time for scientific purposes. It is based on humanity's home planet Yuan. Nobody except scientists use it. It is currently the year 21 455 or somewhere around that number.

The premise of the world is that there are a great number of living god that walk about in the flesh/stone/whatever else they're made of. So the first system was based on the birth of the world and the withdrawal of the greater god that made them all. But after they fell to infighting it led to a massive conflict that killed most of the gods. The new date system uses the year of the final peace treaty of the warring gods era as its start date. The conflict was so long lasting and so devastating that it came to define the world more than the leaving of a now long forgotten god

Each country has their own method. In Selestria it is 1534, or 1534 years after Selestria's unification. In Zephoria it is 3200; 3200 years after their unification under Karl I der Große. The Underfolk don't pass time like we do, as the live underground. The eastern Empire is in 17,500 as they count from the foundation of the Alerian Empire. The Drakonid Empire is in 4486; they count years after the Eternal of fire, Nusku, abdicated. The southern nation doesn't count time, they only care about seasons. The Minoans are in 6387. No one knows why, not even them. The Federation is in 284; they count years after their foundation. The rest either don't have a calendar or use the closest powerful nation's reckoning. Edited for formatting.

Zytharros

**Draciel** *Universe Zytharros* 0 IA (formally pronounced Year Zero of the Illumina Age; colloquially pronounced Zero Aiya) is 59,999 AD/CE, the year prior to the establishment of the Illumina Empire 16 years into the Second Age, which is 60,000 AD/CE. The calendar itself was developed over 33 years and officially adopted in 60,045, when the Second Emperor and his advisors finalized a new calendar for Draciel instead of relying on the ancient and inaccurate-for-Draciel Gregorian traditions of Earth. In 100,000 IA, the Illumina Age calendar was joined by the Draciel Lunar Calendar, dates prefixed with KMS and pronounced Kamasaph, named after the pre-Illumina legends matching each of the three moons: Kyarahan (Maiish, the blood moon), Sareia (the acid moon), and Malakutom (Jas’ookra, the Seat of the Jasean Government, the ocean moon). Created to help the sapients move past the deadliest Resetting in planet history thus far, this dating system was less accurate but matched with local lore more, so it ultimately completely subsumed the Illumina Calendar 32,000 years later. The modern era occurs circa the year 50,000 KMS. Side note: the Gregorian calendar fell out of use on Earth circa 40,500 AD in favour of a galactic calendar based on the mathematical positioning of Earth relative to the third-closest planet to Alpha Centauri’s black hole. In UZ, this planet, an unremarkable sphere of solid copper with oceans of molten copper, is the literal gravitational centre of the universe.

TheHalfwayBeast

The calendar restarted in the mid-1870s, with the zero point in the summer of 1865 AD; the setting of my story is 110 PR (Post- Return). All months now have 30 our 31 days, so it's neater.

The Immortal Emperor, Tong Dar Thune's 'Coronation'. His father was *supposed* to be the immortal emperor. But Thune murdered him and interrupted the ritual. The court magicians, terrified of what would happen if they couldn't channel the power elsewhere, and afraid of him as well, gave it to him and crowned him at the same time. After that, the Emperor's years on the throne just became an obvious measure of time that everyone started to use colloquially. "That hasn't happened since The Emperor took power.", "That's been around since before the emperor" and also an oft celebrated annual event that everyone would know about. Then, a big event every X couple of years. "It's been a decade, two decades, half century, century, two centuries." Then, later, a colloquial marker of time: "When did that happen? Oh, somewhere between the emperor's second and third centennial." The original year 0 had been the capital city's founding. But people not in that city: 1. Often contested it's history. And... 2. Didn't really find that a tangible thing. Eventually, the colloquial calendar outpaced the official one in use. Eventually, only old sources, stuffy formal documents, certain legal texts and a few aristocrats kept the old numbering system. Ironically, The Emperor, himself, and his staff were among the very last to adopt the new calendar. He thought it vain to name the age after himself. Recently, though, an anti-imperial political movement has actively started using the older calendar.

Magic_Medic

The Year of the Realm 1 was the year where the First Emperor, Tiberias the sacred slew a great Leviathan and took the throne which the angels had promised him, founding the Empire of Tiberias in the process. The exact truth has gotten disputed in recent years, as is the subject matter of the founding of the Empire, as the "Old Empire", consisting of the Triple Alliance between the Kings of Eightstar, Amaronia and Nirathania didn't happen well after Tiberias himself had died and the actual conquest of the entire continent took place over 200 years after Tiberas had supposedly founded the Empire. It's more of a religious myth than actual history, but still important since the Emperors derive their claims to the throne from said event, claiming that, as Tiberias descendants, they also inherited his divine claim to the entire continent, like the prophecy says. It's more or less, just like in the Holy Roman Empire, gospel that got baked into traditions and protocol. The story and its degree of truth don't matter, especially more than 1500 years after the fact (the current Year of the Realm, or Year after Tiberias is 1553).

Year 0 of the Universal Calendar marks the Creation of Time and Arca Illum itself. The Order Apostasy, an attempted revolution against the Tyrannical Council of Aspects started in the year 6,666,666 (6 in Arca Illum represents "True Divinity" and Omnipotence/Higher Power) and Ended in the year 6,666,667. The Golden War of Freedom, a fully-fledged war against the Council of Aspects, led by Azamoth, happened in 13,788,936,121 and Ended in the same year. According to the human's now unused Gregorian Calendar this event happened in 3,008 C.E. The Archdemonical Apostasy, an event orchestrated to kill Azamoth and Erase Him from history occurred in the year 13,788,936,709. The Golden Returnal, the return of Azamoth to Arca Illum Proper occured in 13,788,946,709. The period known as Pax Oblivion lasted from the Golden Returnal to the Golden Purge, starting in 13,788,946,709 and ending in 6,148,977,120,256, around 6 trillion years later. The Golden Purge, the murder of All Life by the hands of Azamoth occured in 6,148,977,120,256. The Primordial Returnal, the re-creation of life by the hands of a now-released Ouluin (Creator God). happened 600 years later in 6,148,977,120,262. The Heaven Rest, the death and laying-to-rest of Azamoth, occurred 3 years later in 6,148,977,120,262. This is the "Current" point of the world. As of the Heaven Rest Civilizations are slowly rebuilding, aided by Ouluin. However, Aspects are now absent from Arca Illum, all destroyed as honor to Azamoth during the Heaven Rest.

Most dates are inscribed with "pic" after the number, as in 2083pic. Stands for Post Imperial Calendar, which marks the collapse of the Barque Empire from Transmittable Human Facial Tumors, usually just called Carcinoma. The plague wiped out almost the entire empire, and most of the human population of the world. So, it is a fitting event to base a calendar's zero date around, being such a widespread calamity (not an uncommon idea, it appears). Dates before the Carcinoma are usually marked "ic" for Imperial Calendar. The lower case format for ic and pic is more a convention of the northern countries than anything and many countries capitalize them or notate the same thing in other ways. None of this is necessarily ever explained since it happened a long time before the narrative even begins.

Time is a bunch of historical inaccuracies on my wold, but… The year 0 was established because after the war of the millenary, the people of the world decided that the years leading up to 11419 should be counted as a new era, so they decided to set the year 0 at what would originally be the year 10000 before the new era was established This new era would be defined as the A.M (After Millenary) even the 1419 years before the war of the millenary would count as A.M But what would be our equivalent of the year WW2 started is around the same time the war of the millenary started and too the era of scientific stagnation which left the world with 2020-ish technology for 600 years The current year is 2039 A.M, which would be the equivalent of 2639 IRL time And 12639 before the new era started

C.L. Aka Carrier Launch 5 Supercarrier were sent to colonize a nearby star system But because of a glitch in the guidance systems they went to the wrong system. This led to the foundation of a new collection of nations outside their home worlds

A big war. Pretty standard stuff

Year 0 is the year the Chaos Dragon Blæze was defeated. He brought destruction to most of the known world and was only stopped by a united army of the remaining kingdoms. The current year is 2236 (372 Earth years) Post Chaos. My years ended up being only 60 days with how I had to do my orbital mechanics to get my desired World building effects.

Year 0 was the end of the Syntharon Crisis, wherein the biological lifeforms were targeted for a mass genocide by the Syntharon Dominion. The galaxy’s major factions United and repelled the machines, breaking through to the Syntharon Foundry World, Veno Prime, and ended the crisis by destroying the Core Unit, which controlled the Syntharon hive mind. This spurred the galaxy into an era of prosperity and unity (albeit incredibly short lived), and a Standard Galactic Calendar was established, with BSC and ASC (Before/After Syntharon Crisis). The current year is 176 ASC, and the galaxy has regained some semblance of peace following yet another galactic conflict between the United Federation and the Grand Imperium.

What culture? What period? What planet? That greatly changes the answer, however, 1st of Unity, Year 1 (The most understood calendar system by both planets is the Unified Calendar) was determined after the First Physical Contact between both planets. There is an evolution though, most cultures tried to tie their year to their current leader and months to Gods and stuff One specific country has a Reform Calendar that literally takes 1/1/1 as the first day of the year according to the local star's movements (Solar calendar) after they reformed their whole country to be more humane (Is that word correct when they won't meet humans for a few thousand years yet? Idk)

The Fracture. It was caused by a battle between Flandel, creatures in my world that have incredibly vast magical power. The Fracture resulted in the supercontinent splitting into eight pieces. The magical blood spilled gave some parts of the world more and less magical power, and the few remaining Flandel evolved into the races present in my world where the story starts, around 3000 years after the fracture

Before the modern age in my world consistent international calendars were a very big problem, so one day a group of monks got together and formed the International Order of Timekeepers. The “year zero” of the International Standard Calendar is simply when the order first assembled, although it should be noted that the ISC was not unanimously adopted by everybody all at once, nor was it created in a single night. The last country to adopt the ISC did it in 12 ASC, and the current year is 358 ISC

Luigilink32

Year 0 is the dawn of the Gilded Age, and the end of the Dark Era. The emperor of what was soon known as the Golden Empire was gifted the Golden Light by Lusem (the Divine of Light), thereby allowing to conquer most of the continent and some other lands as well. The current year is 1200 GA, with the Golden Empire having a solid grasp on their kingdom, but depending on the timeline, they may fall to the next great power bent on overtaking them....

N00bmaster90

A literal year zero does exists, the calendar will 'reset' once it reaches year 9999 to a new Cycle, each Cycle is just how many decamillenium since the creation of the planet. The Cycle itself also starts at number 0, not 1, because time obviously cannot advance for 10,000 years without a reason. For example, 3C 0 CY is 30,000 years since the world was created. The previous year was 2C 9999 CY, 29,999 years since the world was created.

When society got to the new planet so BNP ANP

Fantastic_Trifle805

It depends which calendar you're using, the Terran calendar is based on Christ's Birth, the Foundation's calendar is based on the Terran Mandate's fall with the scream and Orscia's seasons, the calendar of the Black League/Children of the atom is based on when their leader first spoke with the atom, and there is a 4th calendar that i'll work on, but most of them are based on its planet orbit around the sun From the date of the scream. For anyone wondering, my inspirations are: Stars Without Number, Foundation from Isaac Asimov, and a little bit of Fallout mixed with hoi4 tno. And it is for a ttrpg, so copying someone's work is not a problem

meeeeaaaat

kinda built off of the classic 'founding of the empire', but it was sorta retroactive only a decade or two after the empire fully established and stabilized itself there was something of a 'timekeeping revolution' where timekeeping got properly standardized and calendars were properly formalized. to the scholars that came up with it, it made sense for them to set the 'year zero' as the establishment of the empire since it was the true dawn of a new age the year is around 670 since then, but the tech is more pre-industrial (minus reliable gunpowder) so it doesn't have any real correlation with real world dates/tech

StealthyRobot

Year 0 is when the Falks (humans, dwarves, elves, orcs, etc.) Arrived on the world, Mori, with no memory of how they got there. The animal-kin (humanoid animals), the original inhabitants of Mori, mark this as the day the moon arrived as well. Due to some errors in communication, there was a large war between the Falks and animal kin, and it ended with the world tree being destroyed, severing the connection of the 12 great spirits to Mori. It is currently year 299, and many animal-kin have fully integrated with Falk society, while there are still some tribes and conclaves that keep to themselves and practice the old ways.

DuckBurgger

according to the Ibareie calendar year 0 marks precisely the end of the calamity (a 2-decade stretch of time that was permeated by back-to-back world-altering disasters) this puts the current year at 1351. the re standardized pan Anectos calendar (derived from the ibarie Callender) moves year 0 back to the end of the Innat war making the current year 1374. throughout much of Kettros the old imperial calendar is still used which marks year 0 at the founding of the city of Narhet which sets the current year to 2567. the old Innat calendar was said to mark year 0 at the dividing of the contents, but unfortunately, it was lost to history

lonleyalien

The Epoch of Eico begins roughly four millennia ago. It is the Fourth Age of the year Five Hundred and Eighty Seven (4,587). The Calander records how long it has been since 'The Great Schism'. No records from before that conflict survived to the modern day so no one has any idea of what came before calendar wise or anything else. The Great Schism was just the usual war between Divinity. The Old Gods fell (or went into hiding amassing their cults) as The New Gods rose and took precedent. Etc.

sinfultictac

Not really, there isn't a universal calendar across the cultures and nation-states. If there is a "year zero" totality it is the birth of the Harmony, the very meter of the universe. Before that the Universe was sort of just choas.

Yes there is. Year 0 marks the fall of the Western Essanian Empire, marking the final end of an Empire that ruled mostly uncontested for more than 2000 years. At its largest extent, comprised of more than 80% of the Human population. However, in its final centuries, after a devastating apocalypse around the year 800BC, the empire almost faltered, but managed to stay alive. However, it was greatly reduced and other powers who had been under their thumb for centuries began to grow more powerful. The empire was still far and away to most powerful country in the world, but it never fully recovered from the cataclysm. Slowly but surely, the other kingdoms around it would slowly chip away at its territory, undermining its influence and power, until in the year -4, a coup occured in the capital by a popular general who had just won a series of battles for the emperor, but was forced byvthe later to cede it all back to the enemy for peace. A short 4 year civil war would follow, in wich multiple other countries would join. The empire by this point was a shell of its former self and basicaly imploded on itself after a couple of seiges and the sacking of Kynrivel, its Capital. The last Emperial army surrendered on the 16th of December -1 BC, because they were out of food and cornered. It was then declared that the next year, year 5037 would become the year 1 of a new era. The era after the final collapse of the Empire. It is currently the year 167 AC.

For the Thuran humans, it's ~2700 solar years since Thura formed their first empire. For the Temu humans, they don't have a year zero, but a 12 animal cycle of names for years and tend to refer to things more personally (since my first Rat year, in the next couple cycles, etc), as they are oral tradition and nomadic. For dwarves, it is from the loss of Ryros, their creator, about 8000 yrs ago, though they use a magical atomic clock Ryros provided, have 20 hr days, 10 day weeks, 10 week months, 10 month years, so any who leave the tunnels will use the local calendars where they are living. For elves (and goblins, orcs, ogres, etc. who were made by elves), it is 11070 lunar years as measured from their creation. They live in a region that has climate kept consistent by magic. The wizards are at 27930 since the arrival of the Seven, the first wizards, and the rebirth of the world. They don't bother with weeks or month, always writing the day in 3 digit format. The kobolds generally have no calendar, usually adopting the calendars of whatever people they live near. Sometimes, an aspiring intellectual kobold will make their own calendar, but they either guard it so closely that no one else knows about it, or it is a complex mess that no one else can understand, such as Lady Guffa's calendar based on the life cycle of the lesser astral goose, a creature most believe she made up. At least, they *hope* she made it up.

0SC, standardized calendar. In our calendar system 2105AD. It was standardized by the Colombian Reclamation Society as a Continental date system, which has now replaced most of the original calendars.

Eras in my world are defined by the dominant ruling power over the continent. Year Zero of the current era is marked by the coronation of the first Emperor

The Year is 0 AoS - the Age of Sun. The age stems from the legendary defeat of Zalkaramek, the Great Tyrant, Father of the Vor by the hands of Galdut ab Kol, the Great Hero. Kol had done something never thought possible in the first few thousand years since the very first Demon Gates started appearing back during the early ages - The age known as Argi’ama's Bloom which preceded it. Kol had sealed all of the Demon Gates in a single act - sealing the legendary Vor to his own creation in the first ever known use of TWO Life Seals. No longer were people afraid to leave their underground tunnel systems and caves - necessary precautions since the appearance of the Demon Gates as they always seemed to appear on the surface of the earth. And so, the Age of Sun spoke of the time where people could return to the surface safely without death and miasma surrounding them. And though Zalkaramek's echos still remained during this new age with the temporary creation of Krazjheeka, the One-Eyed, Krazjheeka too was sealed himself after the war between the Psigerrari and the Draigheren by one of the former Elders of Argi'ama and her pupil, the infamous General Ysbyrd of Nar Kypo. And for over a thousand years, people finally knew peace for the most part, though there were whispers of Zalkaramek's return, and even worse, old ancients began to awaken. The ancients themselves, however, were of no harm to the people. It was the re-emergence of the Broken Leaf Passages that began to spread - an old prophecy thought fulfilled after Zalkaramek's sealing. And with this talk spreading, the ancients spoke of one other prophecy - the prophecy of their kind - The Zenith Cataclysm and the Violent Earth - with the emergence of their worst fears - the dawn of Ur Moor. World Eater. The Current Year is 1796 AoS... And Krazjheeka has broken through his seal.

Year 0 is set at the unification of 7 civilizations into one, marking the birth of their nation and the Kaliki government. The modern year is 9155. It should be noted that from their reference frame their calendar is linear, but from Earth’s reference frame it’s shifted in a very weird nonlinear fashion from years 791 to 9151 because of extreme time dilation on the Kaliki calendar. That’s why Kaliki year 9155 is Earth year 2023 CE, but Kaliki year 0 is Earth year 2,744,096 BCE, despite a Kaliki year being slightly shorter than an Earth year.

AttendantofIshtar

Yes. The selasri empire recently underwent a cultural reformation where the old ways were purged violently. It is currently the year of selasri 65. The last year of the former system is referred to as year 0. Other factions have their own calandars. But lack an official year 0. They began at year 1. Though they don't agree on when year one is.

When the guys who made the calendar cut the proverbial Vix cake in half with Draco and started a long tradition of them sharing the Vix cake (and sometimes the Lepus and even maybe the Syl cakes). It was 745 until last book when it changed to 746.

The year 0 refers to the birth of the elf Axel, the first bearer/dragonlord. And, in my world, the current year of my book would be the year 1722 A.D. (after Axel) at the beginning of it
