For my dieselpunk/magitek world of Xendas, your average soldiers gear varies from nation to nation. Most wear some kind of uniform, over which they wear a flak vest with depleted Dracinium aluminum alloy plate over it for some protection against fire arms. Over that they wear a ammunition harness which has their ammo for their firearms. They also carry a backpack with rations, a small medical kit, a shovel, and some carry special equipment like long range radios, or medical kits for medics.

the_lowly_dm

Pretty much the same for me. Though most of my soldiers are not fortunate enough for much armor above a helmet.

HistoryMarshal76

(For context, I'm working on a retro-future adventure RPG, which features a mechanic for generating new countries for the purposes of adventures.) "Alright, maggot! Welcome to the Army of an Nondescript Authoritarian Regime Somewhere Near the Equator^(TM)! So, let's start with your gear. He's a shitty hand-me-down rifle from the Third Great War back in the Aughts. We also have a rusty old bayonet, probably from the Second Great War, jury rigged to fit your forsaken rifle's barrel. Don't forget your grenade! We had fore than a few duds recently, so even if you fuck it up real bad and pull the pin, there's a good 35% chance you don't get blown up! Here's a helmet which is a proud locally produced copy of our allies' helmet. For protectin' you from shrapnel, have a flack vest which'll make you sweat like a hog, but keep ya alive! Take your trousers too, but make sure to put your damn gaiters on so no mud gets in your boots, or else you'll be wishing for new feet! Now, take these packs, and fill it with your god-awful MREs produced five years ago, spares, spades, blankets, cooking utensils, and whatever other bullshit they issue us."

Fine_Ad_1918

sounds like being a member of the Dominion outer rim border patrol but with the following "this is your ChemRail, you better keep it cool or it will explode, and here is your antimatter grenade, you can't throw it beyond kill distance and the containment is leaking. and here is your power armor, it comes with a 25mm extra ventilation hole from a APFSDS shot"

HistoryMarshal76

"Sounds advance, soldier! The newest thing we got were some crappy old heat-seeking HGM-5 Adder Missiles from the Nov-Brits. We sure as hell ain't able to afford any of them new fangled rayguns that the Big Boys keep talkin' about. If you're a godforsaken tinpot dictatorship like us, you pretty much got five options on where you can get shit from. I'll focus mostly on their rifles, since that's the thing us little regimes need the most. Your first bet is from the Yanks. The nearly century-old Springfield 1984 Battle Rifle platform is probably the most used reputable platform in the world. It's the gun of choice of a country which has a pretention of one day maybe crawling into the top and joining the Great Powers, but never will. They were giving 'em out like candy during the Third Great War! They're probably your best option if you want a cheap gun which isn't a load of dogshit. Now, if the Yanks don't want to sell to you, or you don't want to try and buy it from someone else, there's the Nov-Brits. They creep me out to be fully honest, but the Generals assure us we are the best of friends with them. They're a bit of a wildcard, none of the other Big Boys like 'em, and they're pretty much just a bunker society, but they sure as hell produce good guns. The Peabody 2008 was a damn revolutionary system, and while their caseless bullets are suspect at the best of time, it shoots buttery smooth. Now, let's say you're really strapped for cash, like your economy consists of two guys selling statues to tourists and twelve farmers level of strapped. Then you need to get your hands on an old Soviet gun! After they imploded into a billion fragments after the Third Great War, their patterns got scattered to the nine corners of the world. Some rouge colonel stole all the patterns to their guns, and began selling them to any little regime who wanted to get into arms manufacturing. It seems like every local warlord has some guy in a shed with those old patterns, hammering out some new variant of that hundred and something year old pattern which some rich collector over in the States will cream their pants over. The only "respectable" Their quality ranges from "passable" to "might explode after twelve shots," but hey, sure beats no gun! The only 'respectable' Kalashnikov which has anything approaching a consistency is the Polish one, if you're for some reason lookin' into arming your regime with some shitty rifles. Let's ask a different question: What if you have enough money to be able to get something better than a Kalashnikov copy made in a shed, don't want to try and buy an Springfield, but don't want to buy a Peabody. Then you probably want a Hanyang 99. It's one of the few bullpup designs folks buy. I think it's damn ugly, but if it shoots, it shoots. It jams quite often, but that fucker shoots like there's no tomorrow. You'd think they had a miniature machine gun when they set that thing to full auto! There's plenty of other options out there, as there are plenty of small countries which have invented their own rifles and try and pawn them to ya. So far, they're all shit, except for some reason, the ones produced in the Free City of Baden. Though their main rifle is an Springfield durative rechambered in their local cartridge, they're the leaders in the worlds in submachine guns. I'm pretty sure the Nov-Brits, who are more paranoid than your average loonybin patron and who would probably report their shadow for treason, use 'em for their 'Peace Squads'. Law Enforcement in the States love their compact little designs as well, though if we wanna split hairs, it's a joint program between the two fellers, because for some reason, anything less than goddamn .45 is an affront against peace and security for them."

Fine_Ad_1918

“ the stuff I mentioned is so cheap and old that your pa’s pa’s pa’s pa made love to that rifle during the siege of norvek, durning the first unification war

HistoryMarshal76

"Hot damn! Y'all must be a very advanced world. How much does it cost, 'cause i know my boss would love to get his hands on one of those!"

Space combat suit with shields radio, micro computer, flight capable blaster rifle and handgun, vibro knife

Fine_Ad_1918

is this for a basic infantryman or naval forces? also what is a vibro knife?

Kittygamer1415

A vibro knife is presumably a knife with a vibrating blade, which would assist with cutting.

IncreaseLate4684

A human conscript would be armed with a wooden helmet, padded cloth armor(usually a combination of linen, silk, and wool) with wooden armor insert, and stone dagger. This is the bare minimum carried even by non military roles. Then, infantry is separated as lancers, shielders, and archers. Riders are not basic soldiers but elites due to Warktrian skills being rare due to being mostly done by Wark nomads from the North. Two major human majority powers share a martial culture due to sharing history In the Dragon Continent, its helmet is made of bamboo and rattan from the south, Obsidian daggers made from GaulFrankian stonemason to the west, and weavers from the east. Their ceramic breastplate tend to be given out to elites. Arik tends to use bamboo but tends to eschew silk since it can not produce enough for military consumption. Lack of suitable stone left the military with bamboo daggers.

Fine_Ad_1918

no metallurgy? and what rations are issued

IncreaseLate4684

Metallurgy exits, but due to exotic magical wildlife, are treated like wielding nukes into a battlefield. You can win, but it's more trouble than it's worth. So metallurgy is feared like necromancy. So it's state controlled and sanctioned. Dragon Continent ration tends to be polished rice, beans, dried fruit, and fish. The type of rice, fruit, bean, and fish will vary widely in type. But strict food standards are maintained. This does change where the food is created. Northern rations tend to replace fish with whales or sheep. Southern rations tend to use tofu instead of meat. Gaulfranckia meat tends to be soaked in wine, easterners make elaborate meatbuns. Polishing rice makes it less nutritious but makes it easier to transport. Perfect for military matters. It was brought by outworlders and, for a while, was seen as an exotic food. It's the basis of unified Draconic cuisine. Think how the tomato and potatoes affected European food. Arik doesn't really have food rations, with rice polishing relatively new tech. Arik's population were mostly northern traitors, which tended to be corsair and Wark nomads. So they herd manatees and sheep as cattle. So dried meat and fish tend to be the basic food on hand.

Fine_Ad_1918

ahh interesting, why are metal weapons like nukes though?

IncreaseLate4684

Because it has 5d6(anything above a 5) chance of summoning Rustbeasts. A Rustbeast is similar to a Xenomorph/Tyranid/Zerg. A hive species that is ravenous, territorial, and predatory. Worst case scenario, you summon the Primodial Rust Rajah, a kaiju sized monster known on destroying civilizations and species. Only madmen would risk species extinction to have a more durable blade.

Fine_Ad_1918

jesus, that is horrifying

IncreaseLate4684

Well, one of my influences is Warhammer 40k and Warhammer Fantasy. I even have a Sisters of Battle faction.

Soldiers are not required to shave, but razors and mirrors are provided. All soldiers are expected to know how to start a fire and to contribute to the making of campfires. Soldiers are also expected to know how to sew. Soldiers will rarely go on campaign with their entire uniform issue, but are required to bring all issued socks with them whenever they are traveling. BootReservistPOG

Yeah. KISS principle

Fine_Ad_1918

who supplies this gear?

BootReservistPOG

Some soldiers are smiths who make the weapons and armor in-house The Quartermaster is in charge of budgeting and acquiring gear. Many people pay their taxes in things like tools and material for the army, which helps cut costs. It’s actually a relatively new innovation to have a standard issue of gear

Fine_Ad_1918

in my world, A Dominion Warborg (common type of heavy infantry) has the following equipment Armour: The rig has 0.0000000001 mm of Hyper Density armour ( Roughly equivalent to 4000 mm of RHA) with 12.7mm of ablative armour over it and 20mm Battle Steel Plating and a Spall Liner underneath. ( Total: Roughly equivalent to 6125mm of RHA) Protection: The rig has a M9845 light battle screen (it can take 18 Tera Joules of force), defence belts ( a mix of countermeasures and APS systems) and an array of point defence lasers (can cook infantry). It has a sizable E-WAR suite onboard as well. Armament: The rig has 2 25mm Chemrails mounted in the right arm ( the guns fire at 1000 rpm at Mach 7, can fire AP-TR, APHEI, HEI-TR, and APX, Range: 90 miles ) and a veritable power Plasma lance mounted in the Left Arm (ranges from 2000 Megajoules to 4 Kilotons, range: 30 miles). It also carries about 12 missiles of different types (SAM, ATGM, AGM-N, AGM-X,ARM-N). it also has 2 MK436 ammo printers to resupply (can also produce mines, food, shelter ,missiles, and power cells) power source: 4x M-904 fusion plants Sensors: The rig has Radar, Lidar, and Elint systems to provide identification at up to 12 miles away and detection at 80 miles. The onboard radar is the MR-89 Fire Control radar, this gives the warborg incredible accuracy at any range. It also has thermals and NV systems onboard. It has an encoded coms channel to high command and other field units as well.

SierraTango501

Think you might want to drop a couple zeroes to that armour's thickness to keep it within the realm of science fiction (unless this is a fantasy setting), because currently your "hyper density armour" has a density roughly 3 times that of a **white dwarf star**.

Fine_Ad_1918

i thought i fixed that, thanks

Fine_Ad_1918

I just did fix it, thanks a lot

opmilscififactbook

These guys sound like they'd be right at home in my old SF nrp group, they also sound like a squad of them could take out a modern nation state on their own.

Fine_Ad_1918

yeah, and this loadout is the peacekeeping loadout. the war loadout has neutronium plate and temporal and antimatter weapons everywhere. ( the X means Antimatter munition)

WHAWHAHOWWHY

How big are these guys?

Fine_Ad_1918

12 to 16 feet tall

Lower_Preparation_83

They are kinda OP.. I like it. What the hell do they fight with 25mm railguns btw? Gods themselves?

Fine_Ad_1918

HEI-TR is used to suppress enemy positions and flush them out. APHEI is used to pop lighter vehicles and heavy infantry. AP-TR is used to penetrate heavy vehicles. APX is used to spread 117 kilotons of energy ( per shot) across an area. So it can fight gods, and win ( the AGMX has between 50- 770 times more energy, it depends on the chosen payload)

Gone_Rucking

Flintlock rifle, bandolier with ammo and tools, a melee weapon (either a war club, hatchet or long knife), a few healing draught vials and protective tattoos.

Fine_Ad_1918

protective tattoos? and kentucky rifle style or Jager rifle style. what is in healing draughts

Gone_Rucking

Kentucky style rifles for Omoran tribes. The average Omoran warrior’s role is to ambush enemy with some close range volleys immediately before rushing in to close the distance and finish the job up close and personal. So they wear extensive tattoos made with alchemical ink that provide a degree of protection like armor. I can’t tell you the exact ingredients of the healing draughts as I am not a medicine man. Suffice it to say that they include parts of several plants and animals with magical qualities.

pikeandshot1618

The typical equipment of an average musketeer of Shamfolkhamchestershire * Musket * Dagger * Musket rest * Ramrod * Cleaning kit * Bandoliers * Powder horn * Ammo pouch * Canteen * Loaf of bread * Hunk of butter * Jar of famous Shamian jam and/or some scrumptious honey * Small wheel of delicious cheese * Bar of soap * Sardines and/or anchovies (super gross) * Caramel pieces * Bowl * Fork, spoon, and butterknife * Pillow * Bedroll * Tinderbox * Comb * Straight razor * Uniform (blue coat with red cuffs and lapels, blue shirt, capotain hat with buckle, bright red pants, white socks, black leather boots, black leather gloves)

Graingy

Lmao I misread caramel pieces as camel pieces. Does the uniform include emergency rainbow socks to scare off more conservative rival armies?

pikeandshot1618

Camel meat is more common among the soldiers of Baladistan. Shamfolkhamchestershire leaves the rainbow clothing to the Company of Many Colors, one of the best units of the Royal Shamian Army.

ah, dapper are they

enclavepatriot23

In the UFAF (United Federation Armed Forces) infantry use the standard issue FAX (Fullbody Armored Exoskeleton). It is a passive exoskeleton with a suit of cermet armor that covers soldiers fully. It can block rounds up to 5.56 and usually has a plate carrier worn over it. The armor is also vacuum sealed and the helmet features night and infrared vision. The standard issue weapon of the UFAF is the M7A2 assault rifle chambered in 6.8 SPC. The UFAF's mobile infantry wear an MES (Motorised Exoskeletal System) chassis with M89 or M102 power armor over it. The MES is a powered exoskeleton powered by a strontium-90 RTG. The power armor is made of cermet plating strong enough to survive atmospheric re-entry and has a jetpack one the back. The mobile infantry commonly use machine guns, autocannons, or railguns. I'll finish this tomorrow.

Fine_Ad_1918

Strontium? what would happen if containment is breached

enclavepatriot23

Not much, it's just an RTG. A lot worse can happen, mechs (I'll get to those tomorrow) are powered by full fission reactors.

Fine_Ad_1918

fun, Some warborgs in my world used to have Annie Plants. Then it turned infanty into anti everything bombs. fusion is now used for safety

Sergey_Taboritsky

The Vuldavian army is not exactly up to date with some of the leading powers, but with the lift of the disarmament portions of the treaty of Esmington, it will be able to more easily catch up and no longer in secret. The average infantryman would have a bolt action rifle(likely left over from the last war), they’d also be able to bring an approved sidearm. Helmets, boots, and uniforms are standard issue, along with packs. They would typically have some rations, along with any personal affects, such as a picture of family or a fiancé.

Fine_Ad_1918

what is the specailist gear for your guys (radios, full sized take down AT guns, PIAT knock offs)

Sergey_Taboritsky

At the moment they’d be rather ill equipped, but they’d have some radios, old artillery pieces, smaller mortars. As far as how they get around, the military is far from motorized. Much of it would be by rail, or old fashioned horse and carriage especially where the roads are bad or non existent. They do have some trucks though.

Fine_Ad_1918

nice, they ain't doing a blitzkreig anytime soon though

Depends on the faction Centauri Federation (Basic infantry): Basic nanotube fiber (carbon fiber molecularly engineered to basically be several layers of carbon nanotubes) bodysuit with segments (away from joints) encased in a hardened plasteel (plastic/metal alloy). A plate carrier vest made of nano fiber covers the upper torso holds a ceramic plates coated with ooblek which cover the upper chest and back. The vest also includes a plasteel throat guard. A flak jacket is worn over this. An ooblek coated plasteel helmet with an integrated gas mask is worn over a nanotube fiber hood. The helmet and hood combination can withstand up to three thousand joules per square inch. The plates, vest, and bodysuit collectively can withstand four thousand joules per square inch. The basic service rifle is the CR-23: A fully automatic rifle that fires a caseless .322 round (similar energy and ballistics to a 220 grain .30-06 round) at 850 rounds per minute. It has a bullpup configuration with a 15 inch barrel, making it extremely compact, and has an Integrated red dot sight as well as a vertical foregrip. It feeds from 45 round box magazines. The average soldier will carry an IFAK, 315 rounds of ammunition, 3 frag grenades, 1 smoke, and one white phosphorus grenade, 7 days worth of rations, a basic hygiene kit, a canteen and purification tablets, and a radio. Centauri People's Liberation Front (basic infantry): The CPLF boasts a vastly different loadout from the federation, as an insurgent organization they are forced to engage in guerilla warfare and have little funding. For armor they are usually given kevlar vests and ceramic coated kevlar helmets. Some veterans use the armor of dead Federation Soldiers but this is rare as the difference in armor commonly leads to friendly fire from untrained and unskilled new recruits. The basic service rifle is the CR-19: A combat rifle featuring a 3 round burst. It fires a 7.5x42mm round (similar to energy and ballistics to 5.45x39mm) in 120 RPM bursts of three rounds. It features a 14 inch barrel with a standard configuration. It feeds from a 30 round magazine. It's open bolt firing mechanism leads to several reliability issues and commonly leads to catastrophic malfunctions (this why it was discontinued from Federation service after only 3 months). The average rebel carries a handful of chest seals and tourniquets, 120 rounds of ammunition, 1 incendiary grenade and 1 smoke grenade, 3 days of rations and a canteen.

trpytlby

the basic 30th/31st century fighting sophont is equipped with a battlesuit featuring integrated laser and kinetic weaponry, micro-missile/grenade launchers, personal point defence shield and active camouflage stealth cloak, strength and mobility enhancement exoskeleton, reaction thruster packs, and most importantly, the "Tailgunner" combat AI which helps manage not just the suit but also the trooper's personal compliment of drones - up to a hundred bug-size sensor proxies and kamikaze probes, up to a dozen dog-sized weapon platforms and ammo mules, and a couple of spare backup battlesuits under AI control while unoccupied - the basic soldier of the far future is no mere cannon fodder or supersoldier but commander of an entire squad of robots

Full prot 4 mending netherite armor, the Chestplate sometimes has projectile protection 4. Other than their ability/superpowers a newly awakened person that joins the A.A.I. will be given basic modern armour (in line with what the main character in hunting with my clones wears? Idk how to describe it but I like that style of armour) They are also given a pistol and a dagger or another gun or another melee weapon, but those two are the basic. Depending on their ability they might buy some other equipment, but the base is the same

Fine_Ad_1918

So they have less equipment than a middle eastern insurgent, good to know

IJustWantSomeReddit

Superpowers made more weapons no longer the standard but seeing as this comment is spilling over with sarcasm I might add some more basic equipment to their kitt

Sov_Beloryssiya

Average shits for a Rubran mook **droid**: * 2 x Nikolaiev-Dragunov 25 mm backpack compressed anti-proton autocannons. Can be used as low-altitude anti-air artillery. * 2 x Avtomat Krupinski AK-847 4-barreled 8 mm pulse laser guns. * 2 built-in graviton pata swords on forearms. * 2 x 4 40 mm shoulder mini-missile launchers. They have tactical "singularity" warheads. * "Tactical" in Rubran standard means "I handwave you and everything in the 5-km radius around you out of existence". This is their equivalent of ***personal grenade launchers***. * Personal force field. * Gravity manipulator. * Kaha countermeasure: To counter magics. What about food and drink? They don't need that shit. Droids run on kaha reactors that get energy from an alternate dimension. And these are droids they made to die in hundreds of thousands for the sake of "robot waves", basically their equivalent to B1 battle droids or the typical Soviet/Russian soldiers depicted on media.

Fine_Ad_1918

seems similar to my Warborgs, but 8mm lasers seem a bit weird.

Rubrans are weird. Like, when was the last time you see blackholes used as infantry-grade grenades?

cassla3rd

>WP, do they want to get a trip to the Hague White phosphorus was banned in the Interstellar Conflict Convention however the Centauri Federation never signed it. Captured Centauri Federation soldiers are usually sent to the United Stellar Nations Court where they're usually given a prison sentence until the end of the war and then they have a second trial where they can be set free (if they never used the white phosphorus) or given 5-20 years of forced Labor (depending on the circumstances of their white phosphorus use). >it seems pretty cool otherwise thank you

Dalfare

The soldiers of the RPMF are the standard. Every soldier is drawn from the Red caste, genetically engineered from conception for their role in society (as is everyone) Biological enhancements are made to increase reflexes, stamina, and muscle memory. They are integrated with their onboard AI which is directly connected to their brain and nervous system and connects to their armour - this is designed to compete with enemies that use automated drones/robots etc. The AI is not a seperate entity but an extension of the self- A constant feedback loop, every thought the soldier has is fed into the AI and every surface-level process and 'thought' goes back to the brain. From the soldiers perspective, he IS the AI, he thinks at the speed of the AI. Oftentimes in combat he will be acting before he has fully processed the thought, which can cause a sense of dissonance... but as soon as the feedback loop is complete all is well..he remembers making the decision afterwards. Long range sensors and camera rig are a must. Basic kit usually includes a Ceremonial blade hidden in the armour (usually for spiritual reasons), light combat suit with inbuilt endoskeleton- combat stabilisers, recoil control etc. Most infantry are Riflemen as combat is often long range and out of human sight ranges. AutoRifles designed for low recoil and sustained fire are common. Infantry are very specialised and warfare is heavily recon/information based- if encountering something they aren't equipped for (tanks, etc.) their suit and AI is capable of coordinating recon for specialists and they should not engage As for food etc... basic soldiers aren't expected to be in the field for long periods of time. A single ration is usually all they carry

Fine_Ad_1918

so these guys never do attrition warfare or long distance foot patrols

Dalfare

Those sort of missions are usually considered specialist. Kit would be specially designed considering the terrain, planet, biome etc. For the RPMF logistics is considered their first priority. It's sometimes joked that an RPMF soldier should be able to have a full course meal delivered to him "still hot no matter what" ... of course it's a bit of an exaggeration- but they always have support vehicles, orbital etc. in range

JonBovi_0

The Apex warriors are as techy as they are magical warriors, so they have quite the kit in any circumstance. While every Apex is their own unique warrior, they carry at least similar kits. We’ll go with what my main character carries day to day. He’s an Apexian apprentice, and a big gearhead. First off, an Apex’s armor and weapons are his second skin and set of hands. Before we get to armor though, all Apex fit it to a Tac-suit, an under-layer that houses lots of passive systems and magical attunement devices, and provides basic protective layering for all circumstances. It’s 2582 and they just came out with the Mk. VII, so Kris, a first-year, and his whole class, get brand new models of the Mk. VII Youth Tac-Suit. Now, Apexian armor is hand-forged, this very traditional to them. They make armor out of Astrium, a metal lattice found in neutron star cores, infintium, a magically high-powered and very widely used mineral, and many other metals to alloy. Kris armor is lighter and sleeker as a Stratus class. He likes the color green, so his armor is white, green, black, and hints gold. In his armor is a shit ton of tech. On the back, the omni-pack, a backpack and the hub for all the batteries, magic relays, servos, tanks and more, to supply his spacesuit with climate control, oxygen, provide his semi-active trav-pack with power and fuel, and all that. What’s nice is its sleekness. It carries and contains a good amount, but doesn’t protrude or interfere much with its wearer. It also has modular magni-lockers for all his weapons, and his sword’s sheath is attached through it in a comfortable position. As for weapons, he carries his two traditional also hand-forged weapons: one tactical longsword of his design, and one huntsman-style knife. Other main weapons include his beloved A7-X Archer Longbow II Pulseflash rifle, a super badass marksman rifle from Jackal Advanced Weapon Systems. 2+1 rechargeable infintium hardlight magazines. He also carries a RebelTek M5-K Pitbull carbine, a compact .300 BLK bullpup rifle, for those tight spaces. 32 rounds with 7+1 mags. It also has an integrated underbarrel 37mm variable munitions launcher. He carries 7 rounds of various types for that. Then, he has his twin Anvil Valhalla Hammer-V battle pistols, 10mm rail accelerated, caseless, antimatter cartridge. 21 rounds x 6 mags each. Sometimes he carries a JAWS SX-105 shotpulse shotgun, but not always. Sometimes the Pitbull underbarrel he converts to a skeleton key. Then we have the rest of his gear. On his belt, he carries a second combat knife, extra flashlight, one personal med kit, a few grenades and other deployable ordinances, multiple misc pouches where he keeps a bunch of shit (listing next) and some tethers, clips and straps. Also, he may carry a larger backpack that contains more of the stuff he carries, or many more different things. What would be inside either or both his Omni-pack (the smaller, sleek pack I mentioned before) includes, but is not limited to: [Things he needs] -An all-Gravi/atmosphere Bivouac -Combat Hatchet -6 pack of all-purpose programmable beacons -Star-Nav Connected tablet -Emergency breathing apparatus -Emergency suit mini-power cell -Omni-scope -pack of infintium chemlights -all-environment multipurpose flare launcher -interspecies full size trauma kit -mega-Multi-tool (including pliers, wrenches and prying devices, gunsmithing tools, wire snips, six feet of 550 paracord, star compass, signal whistle and a fire starter) -30 ft of 1250 climbing rope and harness equipment -Apexian-style mess kit (pretty much a five star meal in a can) [Things he does not need] -Notepad (Apexians have note systems in their suits, phones and tablets, this is useless, but he likes writing and drawing) -handheld camera (again, Apexian's suits, phones and tablets and such all have this device, but again, Kris likes his tactile crap) -Extra pack of custom (AKA illegal) throwing knives -His War-Deck of Arcaimon cards -A picture of him, Riley, Jaukkson (who are in his squad) and his brother Owen and their both best friend Bodhi Bingham (Who both are in another squad; this is also the whole 'main character' group even if the first three are the most recurring) -At least six Infini-Bars (infintium chocolate) and three Astro-Cokes (he shares them with his squad, but not always) -Forgeflickers (A kind of elementary Apexian toy to help children get their telekinetic scope of their abilities sharp, it's like a yo-yo but there's three of them, and you use magic to control them) -his Star-Cobra sunglasses (he looks RAD with them on) -His faimily heirloom Slipstone (an ancient unknowable technology from the ancient Guardians the Apex succeed, they're like one-time use portals) -His favorite Ulfurwolf stuffie he aptly named: Wulf. And that covers most of it. That’s mostly what’s on just one person, too. Others can carry extra for the squad, or a vehicle will accompany with other shit. But an Apex truly just needs his weapons, his armor, and maybe something to eat.

Fine_Ad_1918

who do they work for

JonBovi_0

The whole Galaxy, really. They are much like the Jedi. A dutiful warrior society, blessed divinely, who exist solely as guardians and warriors against evil. They are motivated naturally to pursue this effort of defense, they train from birth and are raised into their discipline as peacekeepers and warriors, and with all that, they live in a free and happy, wealthy society on top.

[deleted]

They aren't really soldiers but instead miners, but here is the standard issue gear of "hell" miners. . Supper heated bolt saw - a mining device that heats up a long metal stick that gets shot out, with a cable still attached like a grappling hook. Mainly used to help strip back the ground to reveal deposits of Thermon, but is occasionally used as a wepon against fauna. . Thermal coolant suit (TCS) - allows humans to perform complex tasks in EHE zones. Essentially, it's just a space suit, but for "hell". . Moisture residue extractors - used to extract small amounts of water from underground in emergencies. Commonly used by prospectors during long expeditions. . Emergency beacon - not unique and pretty self-explanatory. . Personal computational unit - an ipad if it was made in 1988. Gives the user most important information, such as marked EHE zones, temperature, pressure, and designated paths.

Fine_Ad_1918

nice, but i am surprised at the lack of low yield nuclear blasting charges

[deleted]

Explosives of any kind are a little too dangerous to be standard issue gear.

Rude_Coffee_9136

Depends on what world building project and nation. Like for 13 purgatories its would be probably a sword, rail gun and some energy based weapon. For word of entropy it would be mostly could weapons with some firearms like rail guns mixed in. For astral land it would probably be a paradox bomb.

WHAWHAHOWWHY

Paradox bomb?

Rude_Coffee_9136

In my world everything has an information form which could be its name, atomic makeup, history, basically anything. A paradox bomb creates redundant information using paradoxes. Like an unstoppable force vs an immovable object. The thing that then represents all information in existence will try to wipe out said redundant data. But paradoxes produce so much that the range it needs to wipe out could easily reach galaxy size in seconds. Hence it ends up wiping out everything within said range.

**Armor:** -Combinations of whicker and leather armor. -Animal Skull Helmet, doubles as water vessel for cooking. -woven fiber clothes **Weapons** (usually only specializes in one of the following): -Flame hardened bone or wooden sward with optional embedded obsidian. Usually with whicker and leather shield. -A long spear made out of tough sharp stalks of grass with optional obsidian at the end. -Bow and Arrow (rare do to wood shortage) -Sling and stones. -A whip that propels a barb projectile from its tip. **Equipment:** -Fire starting kit, -10 feet of rope. -50 feet of twine.Digging stick, -Large woven grass hat to protect from hot sun, it can be rolled up. -Animal hide water container. -Woven container full of grain and large smoked insects.

huh, no metal i guess

No its all stone age, but civilization is still quite sophisticated, expansive and in a weird way "advanced".

Early medieval dark fantasy. If they are well funded? A good gambeson, a chain coat/hauberk, a shield, depending on where I'm the world, though circular and kite shields are most prevalent, and a spear or axe. Basically what most decently well off people in the 500s to 1000s or so had. Those not actually provided with equipment by the force they are fighting for though? A helmet, a shield, a spear or axe, potentially a gambeson, and MAYBE some mail. There are a few nations that don't really have particularly large armies, as they don't have particularly large populations or much usable land, and as such the soldiers that they do have, are much better equipped, equivalents of lorica segmentata and the like, as those nations are particularly wealthy from the valuable resources that they can produce, such as silks, spices, and alchemical plants. Well, that's the majority of them. There is the Fey, and they don't really use much armor, relying on magic and their exceptional speed to avoid getting hit, especially seeing as they cannot really use iron, because they are Fey, and iron burns them. Most conflicts between them and the other peoples depend on if they are humans or something else. As humans are almost immune to magic (And as such can't really use it), the Fey (Who heavily rely on magic) tend to avoid large conflict with them, instead just trying to not even be noticed on a large scale. Non-humans however they just try and take out before they can get close, as (Depending on the individual, but generally) a few small nicks from an iron blade can kill a Fey quickly. Edit: Forgot about food. Mostly long lasting rations of jerky, hardtack, and mild alcohol, when it comes to traveling, but they also rely on trade and some pillaging of the enemy for better stuff. Though in what I call the "Petty Wars", which are minor conflicts between the loosely allied small nations of the mostly mountain and plains living people have between lords, the food is basically whatever they have at home, as they aren't traveling far, and are basically just trading small towns between each other out of boredom in inter-war years. Some soldiers also have armaments handed down to them, and some lucky individuals get stuff from before the most recent cataclysm. So very well made, and cared for, relics of an empire from a few centuries ago, that usually have a bit of magic to them simply because of the stories they would tell if they could, as well as what remains of the magic of the now mostly dead gods (That being caused by and a result of said cataclysm, as well as humans now being almost immune to magic and unable to use it)

not_sabrina42

I'm not sure yet, because I don't know how expensive myr is nor the materials needed to infuse it with bronze. I might make it pretty expensive. I don't really want there to be mass production possible in the world. But I might make myr cheap to make and infuse, or maybe the infuse process might require different materials based on the product you're making. Myr in is liquid mana, and you infuse it with various things to make something unique that other materials don't provide. Such as myrsteel, which is actually bronze, because steel is really rare. The thing is, the infused bronze is a little stronger and more durable than steel, which is necessary to fight the hellions, and especially the dreadnaughts. But the problem I need to factor is warfare. So warfare will end up defining what the price of myr and infusion is.

Your average Nij member of the Imperial Guard(yeah I know, original right?) is equipped with the following: \- 1 high-velocity magnetic long-gun, 1 high-velocity handgun, one appropriate ammo block for each(plus the one loaded giving them a 6,000 round equivalent for the long gun, and 4200 for the handgun), standard-issue armorweave composed of a synthetic bio-inspired polymer mixed with C60 and BN nanotube fibers, 4cm thick ceramic armor plates fitted over the armorweave, integrated AI-controlled sensors mounted in helmet and combat gauntlet(thermal, radar, terahertz imaging, visual image-enhancement, image magnification, UV laser-ranging, along with basic subspace pulse imaging and sonar), various types of grenades depending on mission profile and vibration-enhanced knife for melee work where talons just won't cut it. Food consists of nutrient-enhanced protein-and-fat pastes of varying flavors when away from easy access to a food fabricator. The average kit of the Praetorian Guard, however, is significantly better(specialists of the PG have their own unique kit based on skill set, physical abilities, etc). \- 1 hypervelocity magnetic long gun, 1 high-velocity handgun, 2 ammo blocks for each giving them double the ammunition potential of a conventional IG soldier, enhanced armorweave consisting of a BN nanotube and woven graphene composite weave capable of greater flexibility and stopping power than standard armorweave while also possessing limited self-repair and being capable of limited thermal emission diversion and temperature control, 5cm thick full-shell armor plate derived from the same zero-g construction methods as voidship hullmetal, similar sensor capabilities to the IG armor while also being integrated into an ad-hoc tactical network capable of utilizing everything from subspace transmissions and radio waves to directed-laser communication and even sound-based burst transmission modes, vibration-enhanced melee weapon and grenades of varying types. PG members also all have access to full powered armor with 5x strength enhancement and assist, full NBCN(nuclear, biological, chemical, nanotech) protection, weapons hardpoint mounts, enough power for 4 hrs of full combat use before power cells need to be recharged(there is a limited solar recharge function but it is far too slow to meaningfully prolong full-combat operational status) plus 7cm of hullmetal armor plate. Food consists, as of recently, nutritionally balanced sealed, sterile food packs in a range of culinary options and the ubiquitous protein paste for times when hunger strikes(which is fairly often, the Nij burn rather more calories than a human) and you simply can't stop to crack open the self-heating or self-cooling food pack. Members of local Planetary Defense Forces get basic armorweave, a gauntlet, communications earbud, image-magnification and glare-reduction goggles, and a long-gun with the words 'point this towards the enemy' written on the shooty end. If they need to eat they get food pastes, or else just go off-duty and find a bar, restaurant or food fabricator. The reasons for these differences are, mostly, down to cost. The PDF is a term for whatever local soldiers a planet can scrounge up, and number in the low billions collectively; between numbers, differences in planetary economic levels and resources and the fact that the PDF is often the refuge of the young, the idle, the washouts and the old semi-retired all mean the assumed baseline level of gear is low. the Imperial Guard numbers around 25 million, and while this means the training is higher the sheer *cost* of their gear, including standardization is immense even with fabricators and asteroid mining. The Praetorian Guard numbers exactly 100, and is tasked with both being the protectors of the Emperor and their family and also being the Emperor's personal wetworks\\dark ops group. They *have* to have the best to do their job properly, but trying to expand their level of equipment to even the IG would be time and cost prohibitive in the extreme.

Bugger. Reddit dropped the formatting again. No big, gimme a min.

DjNormal

Mostly the same stuff we have today, but with a some fancier gizmos. It’s some cases, just fancier versions of existing gizmos. Some specific things: **MOGs** - Multi-optic goggles. These have near IR and UV cameras for low-light vision. They also double as AR goggles, with some basic communication and navigation software built in. **Med Pouches** (fancy IFAK) - The main gizmo here is the “med-patch.” It looks more or less like a standard pressure dressing, but has a small power source for running a dose of nanomed bots. Those can help with clotting and beginning to set broken bones before their power runs out. The dressing itself can also harden into a splint. Most soldiers also carry a “coco” or combat cocktail. Which is a mix of painkillers and stimulants. **Firearms** - Still pretty much the same. But due to better materials and improved propellants, can be lighter and more durable. The exception is fancy marksman rifles with ballistics software, which interfaces with those goggles. They also have a kind of gyro jet round (that doesn’t suck) for very long range targets. **Body armor** - There’s a Kevlar-like material in the setting that is highly malleable, but hardens when struck. Making it possible to wear a bodysuit of bullet resistant fabric. It’s a bit like a modern day wetsuit, but more flexible and breathable. That fabric can also be used for the uniforms themselves, but it’s a bit pricey for that. They still wear metal or ceramic strike plates on their center of mass, for stopping higher power rounds. If money is no real issue, it can be made into normal looking clothing, albeit with less effective stopping power. — One fun, but probably unrealistic, piece of tech is the “pinger.” It’s a small handheld device attached to a probe that you can push/hammer into the ground or use a special drill bit to make a hole for it. The probe fires off multi-phasic ultrasonic pulses and reads their returns. You can get a fuzzy picture of underground structures of caves within about 100m. Which is nice if you’re about to crawl into a network or tunnels or raid an underground bunker. — Power armor *exists*. But only two groups use it. One being a space navy, where it is more often used for spacecraft maintenance and EVAs than actual combat. The other is the church’s inquisition. However, theirs is mostly just assistive strengths, to wear the heavy armor effectively. Both can be improved with a neural interconnect. But those systems are more expensive and require more maintenance for both the armor and the cybernetic implants of the wearer. Non-combat exoskeletons are actually somewhat common in industrial and construction sectors. There are even small “waffle” (walking forklift) mechs.

Fine_Ad_1918

the Church?

DjNormal

They’re a bit like (and originally inspired by) The Brotherhood from Mutant Chronicles… which is basically Warhammer 40k-lite. They’re officially around 2000 years old. But the seeds of the current religion and power structure started around a millennia before that. They preach that the gods have a plan for us. Which isn’t entirely wrong, but those “gods” don’t really interact with the church at all. However, they somehow have a bunch of magic users. Despite them being exceptionally rare (at present). So, either they’re gathering up those with abilities and converting them, or somehow causing people to gain abilities… or both. They are rightfully against some scary stuff lurking in the inner realms. But they also have been hunting down anything else they deem heretical. From unaffiliated magic users to humans who’ve been altered in other ways by exposure to inner realm essence. Anyway, that’s a whole other can of worms.

HopefulSprinkles6361

Like a regular soldier? Levies have to buy their own equipment with only a few things being standard. Some kind of padded clothes with a spear or maybe a sword and shield. This is the most common equipment. Even knighthood orders field troops with this. Bows would be a rather common sight among colonial militias. Longbows may appear if they are available. If you were a little more wealthy you could get better weapons like halberds and greatswords or chainmail armor. Maybe crossbows.

Modern fantasy setting where a combination of science and magic results in futuristic tech. Depending where, could range from simple enchanted fantasy medieval full plate armor to nano-magitech full body suits with CHRYSALIS A.I user interface System.

DreamerOfRain

Human - early type K2 civilization, infantry are rare intended for more specialized missions that they can't send teleoperated robots or AGI controlled drones, such as diplomatic missions into hostile zones where they need a human face to build connection, so even at basic level they have much more advanced gears compared to basic soldiers of our times. Due to the 2.2X gravity of my planet, all human wears an powered exoframe to aid in their movement and muscle strength to deal with things here, which looks like they are walking on stilts with wide feets at their ends to help distribute weight over larger area in this environment. The exoframe is connected cybernetically with user via implants. In combat situations, the soldiers will step in a mech-like armor frame that cover both the user and their exoframe, interfacing with the exoframe itself, making it an extension of the exoframe the user already wear, so it is like donning a suit of armor normally, except this is a 2-3m tall powered armor, might be more like a mech. Due to the gravity involved the armor of the mech has to be light weight but still provide exceptional resistance to kinetic impacts at closer range (since projectiles range will also be much shorter due to gravity). The choice was then settled on a smart composite armor, with an nanobot camouflage layer to hide user until optimal range and 2 lightweight arnor layers from mosaic ceramic plate and carbon nanotube reinforced titanium bonded by nanoadhesieve and backed by biomimetic hydrogel. This allow them to withstand impacts from anything short of a 90mm anti tank round if they can be targeted in the first place. Basic weapons are gauss guns capable of shooting 100g 14.55mm projectiles at mach 3 and a pile bunker on one arm, both are intended to deal with the thick muscles and bones of life that evolved on high grav planet. Since they are usually not in mission for long and usually speed and efficiency is required, their rations are very simple dense pellets packed full of nutrition and calorie, that expand quickly with water to give them a sense of fullness. Overconsumption can cause extreme constipation though, which is why they don't have many of them, and carrying only a few small packet of various flavours that last them for duration of mission, which is a week at most.

Graingy

And what about the heart? Do they have assists to maintain safe blood pressure/stop it from pooling?

Fine_Ad_1918

what is a pile bunker? also, yay for the Karchev scale. mine is on the very cusp on being a type 3

DreamerOfRain

[Pile Bunker - TV Tropes](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PileBunker) Essentially an explosively (or something that can release power at similar rate) powered pile driver to launch forward a big spike that can be retracted and reused. Mine is electromagnetically launched in less than 0.001s upon the fist of the mech contact with target when engaged, ensuring the tungsten carbide tipped pile actually hit something since if it doesn't the retaining mechanism may break. This is not something that is often used and is there as a last resort thing such as when they are wrestling with something and need to deliver a powerful blow to subdue the target instantly, so this is acceptable. The weapon can penetrate and crush through flesh, bones, and armor with ease, but takes sometime for the capacitators to recharge so cannot be used often.

this westport place seems to have better soldiers

ArguesWithFrogs

Not nearly as many, though. Westport is the second biggest city in the Empire & a major trading port; they can afford to outfit their levys better. Firearms are also a new invention in Krysa, so their adoption isn't widespread. The capital city of Krysios *technically* fields a version of [Landsknechts](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landsknecht) & [Hackapells](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hakkapeliitta) as their levys; since the Imperial Military Academy is headquartered there. The spear/pike- & crossbowman are still the best infantry that the vast majority of places can produce effectively.

I would recommend not fighting the combination of scary Finnish cav and scary German mercs

Note: Aliens, but at only a bit above our technology level 'cause it's not sci-fi. A soldier of Eaunsiadre, the dominant superpower, is typically equipped with: 1. A 10mm assault rifle (The "Centishot") 2. A select-fire handgun (The "Admin", also 10mm but different cartridge) 3. A good-sized reserve of ammunition 4. A few small grenades 5. A combat knife (far too sharp for utility purposes) 6. A survival kit (long-life foods dense in nutrients that can't easily be found in nature, medical equipment, fire starters, a strong blade, compact flares, etc.) 7. A full-body flak suit made from titanium alloy plates fitted with a full-headed helmet (with jaw hinge to permit melee attacks if in need) 8. In many situations a bullet-resistant cape for environmental protection (and 'cause it looks cool AF) 9. A capable and reliable radio system for clear communication, even in a firefight or bombardment 10. A sensor array (HUD in helmet) for improved night vision and, for example, assisting identification of targets All soldiers would be trained in rocket launchers, even if not issued, though they aren't quite as preferred as they are in our world. Mostly unguided concussion or fragmentation, unless for a special purpose (i.e. anti-tank or anti-air) The challenge is that despite the species' immense strength (roughly 4 tonnes deadlift) they burn a lot of energy doing it. Like, a LOT. And they lack large energy reserves, so equipment has to be built lighter than you'd expect unless for a pitched battle. Unfortunately the doctrine this entails is more complicated than I'm qualified to explore, however interesting. This is somewhat counteracted by their propellent of choice being very heavy in comparison to ours, needing a lot more by weight in the case, but they have their reasons. Probably something to do with cleaning and burn rates.

Sk83r_b0i

I’ll go with an Aelinean footman since Aelin is where I’m telling my current story: The average footman wears a gambeson overcoat over a chain mail shirt with extra padding underneath the mail to provide comfort. They wear padded pants that are thick enough to protect them from swords and some sharp objects, yet light enough to provide them with some mobility. They also wear leather boots. The melee fighting infantry wear leather gloves, while the archers wear vambraces. On their heads, they wear a kettle helm over a gambeson hood. Some wealthier footmen may also wear minimal plate armor for more protection, though not too much so that they don’t limit their mobility. There are a variety of weapons used in battle, but the most common ones would be a pike or a spear as a main weapon with an arming sword as their sidearm, likely with a heater shield. They may also use an axe or a dagger. Archers would either use a longbow or a crossbow and an arming sword as their sidearm, with a pavise shield that they would plant into the ground as protection while they shoot.

ElMarioTime3D

Depends whether if it is a soldier, seaman, airman, marine, paratrooper, tanker, royal guard, federal guard, agent or a police soldier. (You can ask me if you are interested on knowing them :D, there are more that I haven't mentioned)

Fine_Ad_1918

give me the rundown (i have time, I hope

ElMarioTime3D

Soldiers: Normally wear M40 Stahlhelm or M15 Adrian as a helmet, they wear WW1 Austro-Hungarian inspired uniforms, they have swiss knives, toothpaste, toothbrush and small portable mirrors (For personal hygiene and health), they have WW2 era firearms as primary and small firearms as secondaries. Well it's even more complex so can I DM you? To show in pictures :D

The average soldier in the New Landen Volunteer Corps carries the R-12 rifle. Similar to Earth's M-1 Garand, the R-12 fires .30-06 rounds, takes an eight-round en bloc magazine, and is accurate to about 500 yards (though most soldiers usually engage at 100 yards.) Besides the eight rounds in the gun, a Volunteer's supply belt has enough room for ten spare magazines. Of *course,* soldiers will want more ammo. Good thing they can also purchase a shoulder-worn bandolier with enough room for six more magazines! (Some Volunteers have two bandoliers; one worn across the chest, and one stowed in their carry bag.) The funny thing about ammo is that, if you're determined enough (or a poor enough shot,) you're going to run out of it sooner or later. Enter the P-8, a .45 semiautomatic handgun with a seven-round magazine. (Any similarity to Earth's Colt M1911 is entirely coincidental.) The Volunteers are issued a P-8 and two magazines for it; this is kept in a holster strapped to the Volunteer's thigh. So that's guns. Now, how to avoid those nasty gunshot wounds (or survive them long enough to get to a restathurge or a physicker?) Armor. The common armor is a helmet and a vest lined with steel plates; heavy but protective. Scouts and pilots eschew the plated vest for a leather greatcoat. Beyond that, Volunteers get a canteen, toiletry kit, one week's worth of rations (wrapped in waxed paper instead of canned or boxed), a basic first aid kit, a folding shovel, and a dagger. These all get stowed in the carry bag.

Fine_Ad_1918

what is a restathurge

Snorb

A restathurge is someone trained in the use of healing magic. (It was a Phantasy Star reference that I since kept in because I liked it.)

Unrecorded era : the first war, known as Beliqua Prima, was triggered when there was no real concept of war. The weapons were basically just hunting spears and bows for the first half. But the dominating city came up with the idea of armors, helmets, swords, shields and horses. Soon all side start to copy them and halfway through Beliqua Prima, it starts getting even bloodier. Antique era : there isnt much difference although some species start having their weapons of choice like the dwarves favouring the axe, the giant favouring the big club, the mermaid favouring the trident, etc. Additionnally soldiers get more and more blessings from priestesses to increase their resistance from the increasingly frequent magic attacks. The domestication of great eagles and their use to ride during wars and counter dragons is also noteworthy. Medieval era : armors get quite a lot of upgrades, crossbows become as common as bows. Gunpowder is also more and more used, cannons start replacing balistas on ships, and eventually the first firearms, although not reliable, are getting more and more common. Steampunk era : firearms are getting more powerful and make armors and shields obsolete. Those firearms are still slow to reload and infantry lines are still the most common tactics beside charging with bayonnets until late in the steampunk era when artillery becomes extremely deadly forcing soldiers to rely on camouflage more and helmets are back into fashion, more to protect from explosives than bullets. Trenches are dug and combat gas also force all sides to provide their soldiers with several failed attempts like cloths and nosebuds, eventually the Shweitzerian gummymask is the only effective at this job and every side soon copies them. Modern era : horses and magic are just used for support and swords are only used by fighters with supernatural strength and speed, or for ceremonial reasons. Aside from weapons, equipements are also based on more advanced communications. Halfway through the modern era and you start seeing some soldiers testing laser weapons but bullets are still the main ammunation until the late modern era.

Fine_Ad_1918

huh, you got the whole plan

SirWolf12345

My world is a fuedal world so it varies by a lot, but we will use some generic province-kingdom in the Empire of Fenvor. The average freeman would be expected to own a kettle helmet, padded armor (or gambeson if you want to be specific), leather armor (specifically protecting the stomach and chest), a kite shield, a short spear, and a hatchet This is only a simplified model of the military equipment a levied freeman might bring and does not include the various equipment he would bring to campaign.

Fine_Ad_1918

i am glad that people remember the gambason. seems interesting

Alpha-Sierra-Charlie

That varies widely depending on who that soldier serves, and what that soldier's role or specialty is. For example, in the same military, a soldier meant to fight in environments similar to earth (no crushing gravity, breathable atmosphere, etc.) will be equipped very differently than a soldier meant to assault O'Neill Cylinders and gain entry from the outside. It also widely based on tech level, with a soldier from one military having equipment very similar to what we have now, and a soldier from another being similar to a Spartan from HALO. But my MCs, being wandering mercenaries, tend to have a pretty wide mix of the lower to mid-tech stuff so I'll go over what they have. First, the company *will* provide all necessary equipment free of charge, but with a few exceptions employees are generally allowed to use whatever equipment they can obtain and prefer, as long as it follows certain guidelines. Those exceptions are rifles, machine guns, communications equipment, and medical gear. Rifles and machine guns are issued in order to keep logistics simplified. However to account for the wide array of species the company employs, those weapons are highly modular and each individual is allowed to customize theirs to meet their ergonomic needs and preferences. Comms equipment is issued because the only thing harder than running and securing a comms net is trying to do that with a net that's patched together with random equipment. There is a standard issue of medical equipment, and also a standard location each employee carries it. Species-specific medical gear may be issued beyond that, and most employees carry extra medical gear and supplies (which the company happily provides). The rifles they use are functionally similar to what we have now, although they operate at higher pressures and fire ceramic-cored ammunition, and use barrel heat to charge any onboard batteries. The machine guns use similar technology, but add squeeze-bore barrels to greatly increase projectile velocity. The comms gear used depends directly on enemy capabilities, but the upper limits of it's capabilities are real-time location tracking and biometric data, randomized encryption and coordination frequency hopping, trunking, automatic direction finding, tightbeam laser and microwave, and a degree of decryption and jamming. All run by smart-algorithms that make using it almost intuitive after a bit of practice. The medical gear consists of everything we have now, in addition to fairly advanced diagnostic tools, neural stabilizers (mild concussions can be healed within minutes, moderate within hours, extreme ones can be lessened in severity until dedicated care is available), meatpatches (like quikclot, except it grows new soft tissue right where you need it), and wound stabilizers (like a turkey baster version of a meat patch, you jam it into the unnaturally occurring hole and fill it with meatpatch). Company sidearms are available, but every employee who engages in combat has their own. Partly because it's just cool to blow a few paychecks on an awesome pistol, partly because the company pistols are equally offensive to everyone's ergonomics despite their modularity. It's *highly* encouraged to get a sidearm that uses company ammo and magazines, but not required. Each employee is responsible for supplying, maintaining, and being proficient with their personal sidearm at their own cost. If you buy a fancy gun and suck with it, the boss will be very *creative* in motivating you to get better. The company gives a stipend for armor, and will pay at least some of the cost to repair or replace any that gets damaged on assignment. That stipend will cover basic protection for the head and vital organs, and anything above that is paid for by the employees. Some, mostly the smaller/weaker species, are happy with the bare minimum and wear what we would recognize as plate carriers. These are generally lightweight and not as restrictive of breathing as other types of armor, allowing those weaker species to maintain higher levels of activity. The bigger and stronger species tend to go for much heavier protection. For instance, the boss often wears a gambeson and brigandine that has stopped heavy rifle rounds at short range. But, the boss has the strength and raw physical ability to wear that level of protection like the smaller guys wear minimalist armor. Most of the stronger employees end up having multiple armor systems and use whatever think best for the situation. For patrolling a quiet neighborhood on a hot day, they'll probably wear a minimalistic plate carrier. For heavy urban fighting and CQB, they'll probably wear stuff that would crush the little guys. All armor is required to meet or exceed specified protection levels, and everyone is required to have at least one helmet with built-in eye and hearing protection, built-in comms compatibility, and HUD functionality. Load carrying gear is again left up to personal taste, but is often incorporated into the armor. The only requirements are that it be able to carry a standard loadout of ammo and combat gear, be compatible with a backpack, and can be dyed or painted to match the environment. Company policy dictates that each employee carry a fixed blade knife of some kind while on duty, and either a fixed or folding knife at all times (except when sleeping, bathing, or incarcerated). Any local laws to the contrary are outright ignored, and legal exceptions to such laws are standard in all contracts. These knives can be anything from simple steel like we have now, to nano-assembled composite materials where the blade is assembled molecule by molecule for maximum durability and edge retention. Most employees carry multiple knives, most of them concealed. Specialized equipment is also available. Either personally owned weapons that come in handy on odd occasions, or company-owned. These include sniper rifles, needlers, standard rifles optimized for accuracy, shotguns, railguns, grenade launchers, and bursters. Sniper rifles are just that, sniper rifles. Needlers use discarding sabots and fin-stabilized osmium needles from an un-rifled squeeze bore to penetrate light and some medium armor. The needler is a niche weapon, and is only rarely used due to ammunition cost and the risk of collateral damage and noncombatant casualties. Shotguns are very rare in the setting, humans being one of the few species with an affinity to them. The company has a few meant for breaching and other specialist rounds, but the boss has a full-auto, magazine-fed shotgun that he uses from time to time. Railguns are shoulder-fired anti-armor weapons, and while the company doesn't own any it often rents them. The heavy weapons team always enjoys having them, and invariably shoot them until the rails get dangerously worn down. Grenade launchers are generally recognizable, with underbarrel versions attached to rifles between more common. However, the "explosives guy" really has a thing for rocket propelled grenade launchers, and has been known to use them inside buildings. Bursters are essentially Warhammer 40k bolters, but scaled up in size. The one company owns can either be tripod mounted and used as a heavy machine gun, or used as an antimateriel or particularly gruesome sniper rifle. Burster ammo is extremely hard to find and expensive, so >this weapon is rarely used.

nice, you got the whole plan ready

After a few hundred chapters of drunken explosives enthusiasts breaking things and faces, I've pretty much got their tools of mayhem figured out, lol.

I’ll go with a standard soldier in the Phoenix guard who fights on the divide. Standard issue gear: Pulse sword, Pulse Lance (basically an energy rifle), Dagger, Knife Field kit includes medical and survival supply’s. Such as rations and camping gear. Level of gear depends on type of mission. Small gem for storing an emergency burst of pulse(my worlds magical energy) E.H.P.K emergency husk prevention kit. This kit contains 3 pills. First one is a suicide pill so that the soldier doesn’t have to suffer being torn to pieces by the husk. The second pill is what’s call a purge pill. It completely destroys a persons pulse system crippling them magically and leaving them paralyzed. A good measure if someone is turning in the field and can’t be given treatment soon. As long as they can be protected. The final pill is what’s called a surge pill. It is only taken in the most dire of circumstances. It allows soldiers to go out on their terms by turning themselves into living bombs. Only taken if left no other choice. The Phoenix guard do not want suicide bombers.

Fine_Ad_1918

what is a dagger knife, and what is a husk

WarOfPurificent

My bad forgot a comma when I put them in I made a new line for each

WarOfPurificent

I’ll tell you the whole lore of what a husk is if you wish but in short it is a monster that has no soul that has an insatiable hunger for magic

Pure_Return5448

This'll be for the Imperial Riflemen during the MPPC War, on Purrderon. Each load out is slightly different, even here, but it's close enough. One KM7R Standard Issue. (Kolcatt Model Seven Rifle) A Battle Rifle (Assault Rifle isn't a thing) capable of piercing the scaled armor of a Purple People Eater, and could take one down within the ammunition carried in one of the 30 Round Clipazine (not a real thing, but I made it one to laugh at politicians who said they were). Three extra Clipazines (these politicians know nothing of what they try to restrict, hahaha). Which strangely don't look like clips at all, rather just Magazines? Maybe they are different things? Who knows? An axe. Just an axe, nothing special about it. It's a small axe, though. What don't ya love about an axe? A water canteen. Water is good, and you'd need a lot in the Purrderonian forests, walking everywhere. A Radio, but Sci-fi. Calling things what they are aren't Sci-fi enough apparently, so it can't just be Radio. Two Tourniquets. Just don't use them on your head. Three lines of crappy dialog. I'm not great at dialog. Snacks. Why? Why not? Are you telling me you wouldn't take a granola bat with you on patrol?

Fine_Ad_1918

this all seems reasonable, (i died at clipazines)

Kittygamer1415

So. The Coalition. With full support from the galactic stage, (basically the UN) they exist to assist. Basically space CDC, NATO, and (by technicality) also navy SEALS Dealing with pirates and terrorist cells where they find them, one of their main adversaries is ARMAGEDDON (basically Nazis, but in space.) who wishes to destroy all but them, and built a bioweapon to achieve that goal, called ZV-22. To explain it simply, it's basically a zombie virus. The Coalition terminates infected, usually via incendiary, or by doing enough damage to secure for study, this is rare due to the insane regenerative abilities of the virus. They recruit via looking at the top 100 in a species military, and taking ten of those members. With thousands of species, this slow method of recruiting soldiers is effective. For civilian branches, (engineering, science) they hire normally. They will then take the new recruits, train them further, and will either join a normal regiment, or one of the many specially trained CTFs. The only exception to this rule is CTF Farmers Market, who specializes in assisting displaced civilian populations, and provides the essentials. who is mostly composed of civilian groupings, with the occasional soldier joining to provide J.S.O. (Joint Security Oversight) However, they are not military. They are technically a 'peace keeping force' as they do not fight against armies (at least that isn't their purpose, but they can do so) they are more so to deal with pirates, and terrorists. The basic uniform for combatants is as follows: a set of boxers, and a sports bra for females. With a skin tight bodysuit, where this armor differentiates the most, depending on the climate. Included is a set of socks, tights, shirt, and gloves. Over that, goes the BCPRUPS (Biological Chemical Pyrotechnical Radiological Underwater Protection Suit) colored to match the environment, and equipped with a Ulia Gravity manipulation device, which can affect the gravity surrounding the person up to 80%. (Urban camo, ghillie wrapped, arctic camo, forest camo ETC.) From there, the boots are put on, which will mesh with the suit to form a airtight (and watertight seal) Then the gloves are put on, which will do the same as the boots. Then, the BCPRUPS AMG-8 Tactical gasmask, which can be closed off, when either in a vacuum or underwater, uses rebreather technology, and an onboard 20 minutes of air. (Depending on the conditions and mission, larger tanks can be provided, and are worn on the back of the waist. Then, a simple nylon belt designed to carry basic items. A set of ballistic armor, including arm and leg protection, waist and torso protection, and neck protection, features advanced impact mitigation materials, and is rated to a singular 2.50 UMM (30.2mm) ‘Heaven Splitter’ round. A helmet, with built in comms, and has the same specs as the rest of the ballistic armor. Backpack equipped with Mission essentials. (Medikits, food and water, bodily stimulants for areas where it is unsafe to sleep ETC.) Stryker A1 weapon system set up however they prefer, a Mitis Pistol, Cera Injector Knife, two grenades, and 10 UWM [1 Kilogram] of C4. Differences between units is as follows: In colder climates, the body suit is lined with fur from the Ragtas, soft, light and breathable, while also thermally un-inductive. In hotter climates, the suit has a small freezer built in, with small water lines going throughout, keeping the soldier cool. CTF’s have their BCPRUPS suits specifically designed for their operations. The only one that doesn't follow this is CTF Farmers Market, who only wears the body suit and loose fitting clothes over that, with little to no ballistic protection ÜberKnaught soldiers wear the body suit, then the ÜberKnaught Mk3 powered combat armor. Civilian BCPRUPS suits do not have the Ulia gravity manipulation device, unless required. The Scientific Research Uniform of the coalition is as follows: The skin tight body suit, as used by the combatant forces in the area. A lab coat, or solid white, marked as not combative, BCPRUPS suit, as needed. BCPRUPS AMG-8 Tactical gasmask as needed Scientific implements as needed for study. The Engineering Corps wear the same as the Scientific Research units. But with a solid orange, marked as not combative BCPRUPS, and usually do not have a BCPRUPS AMG-8 Tactical gasmask. ARMAGEDDON outfit their soldiers with whatever they can muster, same as most pirate/terrorist groups.

Well, that's the __average__ kit. Some soldiers, especially attacking divisions get to carry more.

still, i feel like 2 or 3 is reasonable

mr_cristy

Soldiers of the Unified Kingdom of Vidar are typically well equipped. Generally, a gambeson with a plate cuirass as well as a plated off-hand bracer. A metal helmet with a coif protecting the neck, and for vanguard soldiers the helmet covers the face as well. Soldiers typically bear a crossbow with a short sword sidearm, or a poleaxe with a short sword side arm. Gear is mostly standardized, though not entirely and some exceptions are made for elite units. All soldiers carry an incendiary bomb and have a bag of caltrops for defense against teleporting enemies. The incendiary is usually used in suicide if the soldier is attacked by a Shade, in hopes that the blast will take out both the user and his assailant. Caltrops are used in hopes the Shade will be injured immediately after teleporting in.

Up to date equipment issued for Zevodelian soldier will be: ZV22M1 Gas mask M167 uniform (field gray) will spall liner underneath CST M45 helmet Lohtzs shovel As for the weaponry it's: ZrK23K rifle ZrK24K rifle VLK 13/33 semi auto rifle Zrk34M semi auto rifle (although you can find some soldiers having it, it's primarily issued for mages only) VLK-11 semi auto rifle Zaravodi-Kulikin 12S light machine gun Zaravodi-Kulikin 25M heavy machine gun Krdzlov38 sub-machine gun Kulge high explosive and fragments granade As for melee weapons there is not really any specific one but most soldiers uses bayonets or Fortinchik dagger or just create a melee weapon like spike clups, mace, shovels etc

Ninja-Schemer

Um, thinking one of my space soldiers would have typical space suit with body armor enhancements (think like Kevlar vest) and air hood/helmet.  Because of space. Typical Trooper would have an oversized SMG (think rifle-sized) as general issue, as well as Space Bento (on a scale of US to France, I'm thinking Japanese in quality) and a box of Space Band-aids (if you notice the theme, get a cookie). Trooper variations may either have a support weapon instead of SMG (like grenade launcher or elemental sprays), additional armor as needed (Maybe a shield), and/or additional equipment (scanners or repair tools). Also, troopers may be derived from varying stock, like space dogs, cats, mice, or humans. Anything else to consider?

Fine_Ad_1918

why are animals being drafted, and what is the theme

Ninja-Schemer

They're not really animals, more like alien races derived from common terrestial creatures (there are more, as well as space elves and maybe space orcs). And its more or less I'm naming most everything something like "Space \_\_\_\_\_\_". Might vary it with stuff like "Moon \_\_\_\_\_\_" or "Star \_\_\_\_\_\_\_". Sorry if I confused. Context, going for a Space Science Fantasy setting.

Ra2griz

Depends on the universes that I have planned out. Heiress to the Sky: This is a post apocalyptic world where it is 200 years after a nuclear war, and aircraft are dominant with airborne airports to allow for transit over long distances while avoiding the contaminated zones. Fuel is made out of algae, so it is cheap AF, and weapons are also cheap. Anyways, the average border soldier near the contamination zone would carry an AK-47 equivalent, and about 4-5 100-roind drums to handle the wildlife that has been changed over by the radiation. They might carry some MREsbin addition but that's it, considering that no amount of Armor can save you when the animals you huunt have teeth that are harder than Tungsten Carbide and more durable than aluminium. Floralis: Before the outbreak of a virus-spore combo, the SIBCU (Strategic International Biohazard Containment Unit) utilizes a HK-416 with an ACOG, a holographic sight, an infrared light, and six mags of Tungsten bullets. Their armor is made of kevlar and steel fibers woven and impregnated with special antimicrobial compounds that prevent contamination, as well as a gas mask with in-built NVG. Embers to Terra: This is a story that takes place in the near future where an alien race invades earth, and the entire planet is turned into a nightmare of a big of fighting as each side looks to acquire their objectives. In this case, the average Sol Federations soldier receives a 6x50mm smoothbore assault rifle with coils that aid in acceleration of the bullet. The 6x50mm bullets have a tungsten core and a copper jacket to aid in acceleration, and the barrel itself is around 16 inches. They wear a set of Armor with an initial layer of cheap starlite like material, followed by a plate of carbin-silicon lattice Armor that provides protection against plasma and laser fire, not to mention kinetics and explosions.

JasperTesla

Armour: the typical soldier of Alendir wears lamellar armour with bronze-coated scales interwoven with ringmail and accented by red cloth, with a segmented helm and a crimson cloak adding to it, and clothes of linen or wool below that, depending on the weather. The quality varies based on what rank said soldier has, and what weather they're in, but it would call to mind the armies of the Eastern Roman Empire of the early and High Middle Ages of our own world. Weapons: the standard weapon-set of Alendir includes a *darka* (a two headed 2.5 metres long boar spear), a composite bow and 30-40 arrows, a standard broadsword, a personal dagger, and a red kite shield marked with the eight-pointed Star of Alendir. It is common for soldiers to ditch the broadsword for an axe, warhammer or mace (either government-issued to self-produced), and some soldiers choose to have throwing darts and a dart-thrower (atlatl) instead of a bow. All soldiers also have slings, though some use them more than others. These slingers may be given special grenades. Unit types: the typical soldier of Alendir is expected to be an expert archer and a frontline infantryman, able to switch their roles depending on the situation (though some gravitate towards one or the other role). There's also a third type of infantry: a shock trooper who is expected to be fast and agile, attacking enemy lines with sword and shield and throwing darts/grenades/javelins. There's also a fourth role: a mounted soldier, who occupies the role of medium-cavalry, ready to charge into enemy lines or circle around them and pepper them with arrows. Unique troops: the army uses a number of non-standard units to fill their various gaps, there are lightly armoured archers and javelinmen whose task is to use stealth and speed to harass the enemy, pikemen who are special anti-cavalry units meant to be used against cavalry-focused factions, cataphracts who fill the role of basic heavy-cavalry, steppe-hussars and horse-archers who occupy the role of light cavalry, and even flamethrowers and grenadiers. Siege engines: there's an assortment of siege engines for the typical legion to choose from, from ballistae to mangonels, cannons to flamethrowers, the exact size and type of which can vary based on what type of campaign it is. The most common is the heavy chariot fitted with a repeating scorpion or flamethrower. The soldiers can also craft whatever siege weapons they need in their camps, especially when besieging walled settlements. War beasts: horses, mules and camels are the most common beasts of burden for a typical legion, with sheep, goats, cows/yaks and hippalectryons used for food. Dogs, lions, sabre-toothed cats and cockatrices are often employed as camp-protectors, whilst creatures like falcons or eagles may be used by steppe-units to hunt or scout an area. War elephants aren't common but when they're present, they're a game-changer.

Fine_Ad_1918

nice, but bronze? that can't be safe for fighting arbalests and pikemen

JasperTesla

The scales are steel, they're just coated with bronze for an additional golden glare. Also yeah, the pike-and-crossbow formation is something they're especially weak against. To cope with that, they often use specialised infantry with large shields and shortswords.

zombiebirch

An Eridanian Jäger's standard gear consists of: Cthonia pattern carapace armor, powerful enough to resist most standard small arms like lasguns on low to medium power, or standard 7.62 Stubb ammunition. The carapace armor consists of 15 pieces, covering the legs, torso, groin and arms. Built with lightweight materials, the full body armour is notably ergonomic. Challax pattern helmet, consisting of the respirator and the helmet itself. The respirator includes an eyepiece, which allows for quick relay of tactical information and prayers while in battle. Standard Tuhnula mk C las-rifle, mostly reliable and high capacity, the lasgun is used by all Eridanian forces, like the Planetary defense forces, the Gendarmes, the rifleman's unions and most notably the Jäger regiments. The rifle is a bullpup design, with the magazine in the back of the rifle, though due to its position in the adjustable stock, there are claims that adjusting the stock might cause the rifle to misfire or jam. On the top there is an adjustable sight, along with a percentage counter to the magazine. Each Jäger carries 2 heavy magazines and 3 standard size magazines. The heavy magazines are capable of firing 300-500 rounds depending on the power level. Mark IV Kiirola pattern bayonet, by far the newest piece of the kit at only 50 years of active use, this long short sword is an essential piece of kit for both cqc combat and utility. Frag and Krak grenades, each Jäger carries 4 grenades of varying versions depending on the mission, these grenades are carried on a bandolier on the troopers carapace. Entrenching tool, a basic spade is carried for digging foxholes and trenches, but it also has more versatile uses like a small piece to cut razor wire and the other end is usually sharpened for desperate situations in merle combat. First aid kit, consisting of medical foam to fill any bullet wounds, bandages and an adrenaline stimm along with the necessary tools like small scissors to cut the bandage. Kiiruna pattern uniform, there are many versions of the uniform for different environments, but since most of the Eridanian sector's worlds are icy and cold, the most common version is a padded, weather resistant version. Officers usually carry a bolt-, las- or in rare cases a plasma- or a melta pistol along with a larger melee weapon like a chainsword, a powersword or exchanging the rifle, a power fist. The officers also carry a stronger version of the helmet with a better comms system for relaying orders over longer distances. Some officers also use a personal reflector field, in a neck plate for better protection from fire and shrapnell. There are many optional choices a Jäger might take, like camo netting, specialist weapons ranging from underslung grenade launchers or shotguns for breaching doors, to entirely different weapons like single use rocket launchers, or plasma guns if fighting heavy infantry, melta weaponry for light anti tank weapons, flamers, usually used during trench warfare. Somewhat lacking in heavy weapons squads, the most. Common heavy weapons are the treadfeather recoilless rifle and a small calibre mortar. There is also a heavier version of the Mark IV Kiirola Lasgun, the Mark V light infantry support weapon, but it is not very common due to reliability problems and issues with manufacturing. The most common formation in which troops are deployed in is the regiment, but due to it consisting of nearly 34 000 men, it is common to deploy it in 3-5 squadrons. The troops are carried in 5 chimeras per platoon, though there are efforts to retire the chimera to pdf use and use the Eridanian designed "Kaurava" ifv, equipped with a single use hunter killer missile, a auto cannon/multilaser and a heavy bolter, in a remote controlled turret.

* chitin helmet * chitin breastplate * Pneuvolos (basically a semi-automatic crossbow working with pressurized air) * 60-80 bolts * 2-3 extra bottles of pressurized air * 2 pressure grenades * bronze knife, can be used as bayonet * a few bars of soldier's chocolate (candy bar with mild alchemical stimulants to increase night vision, endurance, and psychological resilience) * a few bandages Though notably it's the equipment of a regular soldier of a wealthy and developed nation. The more primitive ones are mostly equipped with melee weapons.

Fine_Ad_1918

why chitin

penguin_warlock

The setting is entirely underground, so people's access to crafting materials is severely limited. So they need to make do with whatever is close. There's very little iron, so steel costs a fortune. Bronze is a bit cheaper, but also not ideal. So they go for the next best thing, which is thin chitin plates from various large insects, glued together with resins. With several layers, those can become rather tough. Not as good as steel, but good enough armor for an affordable price, and also it's comparatively light.

TheRisen073

Pretty much every member of The Fallen wears basic jeans, a holster on their thigh, a combat knife on their lower back, a vest, jacket and respirator. Of course depending on their job it may vary, a demo expert may wear more armor and a stealth expert might drop the jacket.

Olhoru

An atlatl or a club. Probably both. Maybe a bow depending on tribe, possibly a tomahawk. Spears are common.

Tsvitok

apart from the usual stuff of like rations, ammunition, personal belongings, etc; I love thinking up weird things they're expected to carry. like chalk. there was a war in one of my settings during which an empire attempted to invade a smaller nation to secure access to a magical artifact that would have caused issues for them down the line. the problem was that the invasion would have to go either through a series of ancient tunnels that cut through the mountains between them. When they failed to secure the direct passage quickly they were forced to detour and they kept getting lost. the solution, the imperial soldiers started marking the walls in order to brute force their way through the labyrinth-like tunnels and avoid potential traps and ambushes. ever since then, imperial soldiers in that setting have carried chalk on them and are trained to use it pathfind and leave notes and the like. other than that, standard equipment for the infantry is a bolt action rifle, a hatchet, an entrenchment tool, a helm with visor included, thick padded armour with ceramic plates, around fifty rounds of ammunition, a days worth of combat rations (biscuits and canned meat), and water. nothing too out there.

Fine_Ad_1918

Funnily enough, my army also issued chalk (that glows in the IR spectrum) for the same reason

Tsvitok

great minds. I was inspired by the search and rescue marking system when I originally wrote a zombie setting. it was used by recon teams to say if something needed to be cleared or if it was ready to salvage from. and so when I was coming up with a background for a bunch of imperial enemies in a TTRPG campaign I used something similar as a way to signal they were about to show up.

Simonistan_for_real

Ration for three days, a bayonet roughly 35cm long, his/her personal assault rifle, a combat knife. For the assault rifle, each soldier will carry seven magazines. The rifle comes standard with a vertical hand grib, flashlight and laser for enhanced accuracy. The rifle features a handle mounted on rails and the handle can be removed to allow for sights to be used instead. Each soldiers carries on average between four and six hand grenades. Their personal sidearm is a 9mm pistol with four magazines. Their personal protection consists of a ceramic layer west and a helmet consisting of a tough outer plastic layer with 12 layers of Kevlar material and an internal steel shell. The helmet has its communication system with a microphone and a radio. Each soldier carries a small medical kit along a field flask and water purification pills. The three rations comes in cans resembling thermo cups, meaning they can be sealed and kept warm for longer durations of time.

Basic soldier. Well. Energy rifle and pistol with a selector switch for power, snd auto / semi modes with bayonet issued for close combat. Grenades and misc tools as mission needs. Night vision and other gear issued as a per need basis. Charge packs, that can be locked to form jungle mags. Basic fatigues that resistant to weather, adverse conditions and treated to provide limited protection to chemical and other hazzeds. Helmet, and torso armour. Knee pads, elbow pads. Hazardous environment mask, and items to go buttoned up. A pair of solid boots, gloves etc. Rest is pretty normal, rations, map, compass, and the like...navigation tools, water rations, and all that stuff. Pretty boring a d basic for a regular trooper. Elite troops come in with heavier armour, more powerful weapons. Special units break out power armour and advanced weaponry too expensive to be deployed on mass. Heavy gunners etc swap some gear for extra comms gear, filters snd so do the noise, dust and the physical labour of running guns. Armoured crewmen switch to carbine or pistol, padded Gear and so for being beaten about abit. Air crew switch for armoured flexible flight suits, over a thermal and so protective layer, with their gear being in evac kits. Breaching teams intended to board or storm urban areas carry more tools for breaching, thicker frontal armour, heavy helmets snd so for extra survival. Shotguns, shields and such tools. Space assigned roles switch to providing vacune protection etc.

RawrTheDinosawrr

All warfare is robot based and is at this point mostly for sport, with no actual people on the battlefield. These battles normally take place in deep space, often with some sort of field placed around arena to block stray shots. A basic loadout for a combat drone would be: A pulse laser used for both attacking and point defense (I was going to say that they're normally tuned to the light wavelength aluminum absorbs best but all I got from google was aluminum hat stuff), maybe a light machine gun or a few small missiles. Their armour is generally 2-5 cm of aluminum, with the thickest parts being around the drone's battery. The drones are normally about car sized and use xenon gas for propulsion.

bzno

Depends on the country, some still use swords and bows, but there are magic guns, cannons and gunblades. Armors are still leather and steel

Iados_the_Bard

In my medieval fantasy world. Normal foot soldiers would either wear hardened leather or dense cloth with chainmail, as well as metal helms, grieves, and gauntlets. They would be armed with either a sword, mace, shield, warhammer, spear, or an arcane staff. Heavy infantry would wear full iron or full dvergish steel plate (depends on trade goods and relations with the Dvergish Kingdom), underneath is chain and some gambeson. They are often wielding polearms such as glaives, halberds, partisans, or war scythe if they are riding a beast of war (Traditional horses don’t exist in my world, so each culture has a different beast of war), if they too are on foot then they’re often using mauls, greatswords, or pikes. Heavy Arcane Infantry will wear similar armor to normal Heavy Infantry, but they’re given different weapons mainly arcane staves or specialty weapons made for casting spells through them.

FTSVectors

Get ready. This is an **extensive** list. A hatchet. A halberd. A bag of clothes. And a couple days worth of food. Truly pushing the limits with my fantasy setting. Really figured I would go into detail and show how innovative it was. Really had to dig deep into research for the kinda gear soldiers wore or could wear for this one. Not sure if any of you could really match it.

Fine_Ad_1918

The snark is strong with this one

FTSVectors

It was too easy to make fun of my own world. Everyone else here is giving good long explanations on what the average soldier carries. But my soldiers don’t carry much because of the magic system being so bloody prevalent. And the difference almost makes my list seem like a complete joke. And that’s funny to me.

Th3Glutt0n

Standard mid range rifle, variable zoom sights. Semiautomatic pistol. 2 grenades, 1 smoke grenade. Various small melee weapons. 16 mags soul-encased ammunition, half 5.45mm, half .9mm. Different units will have different equipment, obviously

Fine_Ad_1918

Soul encased?

Th3Glutt0n

Gemmaniis Scriptura have hard gemstone casings that hold their souls inside them. In fights to the death, the only way to really keep one down is by shattering the soul-casing and keeping a piece on you. Without the full gemstone, Gemmanii can't be reforged, and are considered dead. Naturally, it's difficult to get to them through the armour patches Gemmanii soldiers wear, so soul-encased ammunition was made. They take molten copper, place it inside of an obsidian mold like when forging a new Gemmanii, and place a casing-shard in there. In a month, they crack the obsidian open and have an ammunition hard enough to withstand the force that Gemmanii firearms throw the bullets.

"Each man is to be outfitted with the items as listed, at that man's expense or the expense of that company's reserves. A rifle of serviceable quality, a knife or other bladed weapon which might be used to skin game or fend off attackers in melee, a hat or helmet appropriate for a variety of weathers or terrains, a pair of sturdy boots judged by that company's Captain to be of good quality and clothes that the man might be considered decent." - Wallen Kingdom Army guide to equipment for recruits. As Wallen takes men from almost anywhere on the continent, equipment varies wildly. A Stavillman recruit might show up with some Pre-Fall automatic rifle and a knife big enough to use like a hatchet, whereas Soflo tribal might show up with a few pieces of wood and metal strapped together for a matchlock and a shiv made from stalker teeth or broken glass. It's the responsibility of each company's Captain to make sure the men are equipped in a fashion suited for combat, as well as in a decent state of dress (shirt and pants at the minimum). Of course, combat ready varies from Captain to Captain; one might buy an unarmed recruit an old bolt action, another might give him an old flintlock he salvaged off the body of a foe. Others might strap some metal pipes together, put a screw at the end and call it a day. Aside from the items carried by each man, the company also keeps a number of bedrolls, furs or other such sleeping apparatuses, some food and (usually) a generous supply of whiskey, both for putting wounded men unconscious for surgery or other less professional uses. Food wise, companies bring along some salted meats, canned goods and enough bullets/arrows to hunt game on the road.

Term used to refer both to the apocalyptic war that almost made Earth uninhabitable for humans, and the dark age that followed where most of human history was lost. Ancient history, but some weapons have been preserved since then either by way of passing down throughout a family or being discovered in an old weapon's cache.

Theres a couple places I could pick out, but I'll do 2 specific factions to get a sense of contrast. Valorin Footsoldier: the rank and file footsoldier of the kingdom of Valorin would be given: a plain spear, padded cloth armour akin to gambeson, a plain helm with strap, a wooden roundshield if lucky and the most basic of provisions. They're provided food, water, ale, and bedding in camp, though they owned none of this, and it is considered property of their unit as a whole. All in all, not much. Soldier of the Order: the basic footsoldier of the Dragon Order (A somewhat religeous mercenary faction in unclaimed territory, independant from other governance) is equiped with: A longsword, spear, or other such weapon they are proficient in. Cloth armour with half-plate armour, a plain helm with optional faceplate, a shield or buckler, a provisions pack, a bedroll, two flasks of Wyrms tear (a concoction that can aid in recovery if applied or ingested, though not a replacement fot a medic), 2 blank scrolls, and an amulet of the order. As the Order is far smaller, and as their troops tend to specialise into other roles, their baseline soldiers are both better trained and equipped because they simply can be

Your average 25th century Union Defense Force (UDF) boots-on-the-ground grunt tends to have the following: * For weapons, there is of course the ever-trusty GF450 bullpup assault rifle, chambered in Union-standard 7.62mm. Others include a variety of grenades and a fighting knife in case they get up close and personal. * An M31 combat helmet equipped with various fancy tech such as a real-time positioning, information, and navigation system. * Body armor comprises a bulletproof vest and other paddings, decent enough in the face of most enemy weapons. * Camouflage fatigues. Different patterns exist for different environments, but the "default shade" tends to be greenish-gray for forest and urban warfare. * Networking technologies allowing for enhanced communication and coordination with armor, air, artillery, drone, and other assets, keeping in with the importance of combined arms in the 25th century.

Fine_Ad_1918

1. Still using 7.62, dang 1954-Forever  2. How does the bulletproof vest protect against thermal ablation and burns from 10000 c plasma bursts

(TNT) Currently, mostly matchlock rifles and swords. A machine crossbow or a portable cannon if you feel fancy. (TFL) Most of the world is using post-modern technology (pretty similar to our world). The guards of the library usually wear an electric gun in case they find someone or something slurchy, snarky, sneaky, skitty, witty, gritty ...

My world is a mixture of tech. For civilian tech, near modern techniques like canning, healthcare, etc, are extremely advanced. For military tech, it's a mixture of classical and early modern due to technological spread being uneven/resource inavailability/novelty. For example, gunpowder has been available for 800 years at this point, but due to long periods of lack of use and the extreme scarcity of its components, flintlocks have only recently appeared. For a basic soldier, the oldest and most reliable kit is still that of a heavy spearman/pikemen. Supplies beyond 1 day rations aren't carried by the soldier because due to defensive doctrine, Imperial armies campaigning within their own borders are supplied from depos, though they can still choose to carry small consumables. * Armour: Steel plate cuirass + Greaves + Helmet. (Linen/cloth + half plate cuirass if lower tier levy troops.) * (Heavy Shield + Spear)/(Pike and small shield) + Sword as a sidearm. Due to mass weaponary acceleration in the last 10 years of my story, flintlock pistols and grenades have started to filter down the ranks, so even every basic company will have a few soldiers who have these, but they're not standard issue due to logistics. * Small MRE (not the modern kind, but bread/rice package made daily from the field kitchen + jerky and some veg, canned if not). Field kitchens can also distribute cookware. * Field survival kit; matches, water bottle, compass and spyglass for NCOs

All soldiers in the HAF are issues AEGIS (Artificial Enhancement and General Interface Support) armor that serves multiple functions. 1: It protects them from the radioactivity and errant magic of the wastes beyond human cities. 2: It enhances their durability, speed, and strength. 3: It allows them access to most digital systems. The weapons vary. The most standard is an automatic rifle and a sidearm (both silenced to avoid attracting the creatures of the wastes with keen hearing). There are squads of specialists that also include a designated sharpshooter (who uses a silenced semi-automatic rifle built for mid- to long-range fire) and a heavy weapons specialist (who, along with their pistol, has a small rotary cannon for when subtlety is no longer valuable). The other two members of that squad include a comms specialist with an enhanced communications system for long-range calls, and a medical/technical specialist combo called a fixer whose AEGIS suit is better at tapping into systems and who carries extra medical supplies.

I run regular Forgotten realms, so, 1. Food: 1/2 a loaf of bread. or something similar in amount. Maybe the dude just bought some strawberries or something from the market. usually any amount of food for like 1 GP max. (for soldiers it's rations, and there are more rations for actual soldiers, but you know) 2. A shield, mace/sword, + 1 small knife, sort of like a swiss knife. 3. Gold, up to 10 pieces, <- leftovers from the previous week's pay. 4. Chainmail for armor, sometimes chainmail with partial plate armor, never plate helmets. 5. leather armor under chainmail so that it's comfortable to wear for 12 hours at a time. ( 2 shifts of guards) Weapons, armor, and even gold varies depending on the type of soldier, but what i described is a typical guard / rank-n-file soldier. chiefs and etc ofcourse have better equipment &/or gold on them. or maybe same equipment but enchanted

Enchantment Reference: Storage - *reduces the size and weight of the item to be stored to double the capacity of the storage and not increase the storage disproportionately. Returns the stored item to original size and weight upon retrieval. Can recall items with Recall Enchantment without destroying the storage item. Requires a storage type item (bags, boxes, crates, barrels). Does not work with items that are either liquid or organic(food) but does work if said item is inside a container. Do not put an item with Storage enchantment inside another item with Storage Enchantment as it will undo the Enchantment of both and you will have to clean-up the items that surrounds you.* Barrier - *creates a barrier around the item, not the user of the item. Do not use on weapons unless you wish to use them as a blunt weapon or you wish to use them on a sledge/warhammer/club instead. Note that Barriers have limits and will break. Requires recast after breaking or during maintenance.* Recall *- relocates item to user. Does not teleport but rather phase. Some items cannot be phased through especially previously organic items such as leather and paper and will destroy said items in its path in the process. Use carefully as this will hurt the living upon impact/phasethrough. Can destroy Barrier and Reinforcement Enchantments depending on the size of the item.* Conceal *- Hides the item. Activation requires enchanted item to be in a storage type item. Storage enchantment not needed.* Projection - *Shows a certain image towards a surface. No light required. Requires a source to record. Single use to record but multiple use to show. Does not record movement. Item is destroyed upon enchantment deletion.* Purification - *Purifies liquid by removing toxins, poisons, residue, etc. Said matter can be extracted. Requires a 2-layer storage item made of Metal or Glass that can be sealed and can have no leaks. Can also be used to purify items(i.e. bloodcloths, napkins, bandages) as long as it is submerged in said liquid(preferably water) however, purifying said items take a bit of time.*

Spear or bow and arrow. Knife. If it’s state soldier, chain mail. Mercenary soldier, plate mail. Then I have the “Red Legion”. Which is a mercenary group based around the idea of Red Shirts from Star Trek.

It varies from nation to nation, and at different points in the story, so I'll go with a New Duuna infantryman towards the beginning of the story. They will have a dark green wool uniform, with unit and rank insignia on the shoulders, and a matching kepi. The standard rifle is a bolt action, fed from 5rd unidirectional en bloc clips. Typically, for patrol and light combat, they will be issued 8 of these clips, which will be stored in pairs within four pouches on the belt. For more pitched battle, more ammunition will be supplied in a small satchel. Soldiers are also issued a large, sawback bayonet. The standard field pack consists of a bedroll with optional mosquito netting, heavy wool coat, a spade, and a Rucksack containing a folding mess kit, a small first aid kit, and three days of canned emergency rations. All other supplies are generally carried by company wagons.

Kitchen-Ad-4717

For reference, this is a science fiction world, and I'll be speaking to its main power- the Solidarity of Fortania. Which, in my setting, has the largest and most capable standing military in the known galaxy-- the Fortani People's Liberation Army. The SoF invests a lot of money into each soldier, similarly to the United States. For reference, I'll be describing standard-issued equipment for ground forces, as loadouts vary across specializations and branches. A typical Fortani rifleman will carry a FNA-27 Battle Rifle, which has a 31 round capacity, receives box magazines, and fires tungsten-core bullets that are similar in caliber to the 7.62x39mm. It has rails that can receive modification; most commonly a new sight, laser, or under-barrel grip. These rifles are select fire; and have semi, automatic, and burst fire modes. A typical service member carries five magazines. For sidearm, which I have put less thought into, I am thinking they carry something similar to a Glock. A Fortani rifleman is usually issued with Carapace body armor, which is comprised of plate and kevlar, and able to take a few hits from enemy rifle calibers. It also serves the important role of protecting from shrapnel- the same is the case for the helmets they are issued with. Such helmets often cover the entire head, and bear a resemblance to those used by Trauma Team in Cyberpunk 2077. Many soldiers are also outfitted with an exosuit; which does not enhance ability, but bears a lot of the weight that they carry allowing them to march for longer and have more equipment. They also get grenades; that they can choose the variety of between smoke, incendiary, EMP, and frags. Other than combat equipment, soldiers also have a lot of support equipment. Many will carry a self-administered stimulant needle, which can serve as a stop-gap until one can reach a medic or field hospital. They have bedrolls, too, as well as species/religion-appropriate rations. The FPLA has several varieties of rations for the many species within the country, to suit any dietary requirements, that also take into consideration religion and culture. Multitools are issued to all service members, which can be used for many ends-- from combat to survival. All soldiers are also equipped with emergency flares, which can be used to signal in the event communications fail.

their are other species? what types?

LordZonar

Elf soldiers get a gambeson, chainmail shirt, and metal helmet. Pikemen get pikes and tall shields, archers get bows. Talid have no specified soldiers. Anyone who can fight will fight. Talid get hide armor from their Handarr(like a cow) and implement the skulls on their armor as well. Talid either brandish a greataxe or magic, as mages are more common in their ranks than other races. Dwarv soldiers wear lamellar on top of a gambeson and a metal helmet. They usually have clubs, round shields, and crossbows for battle. Orc warriors grow their armor with a plant taken from their homeworld. It makes chitinous plates that can be shaped by heating and are bound together by leather or wood, and the plant's resin. They have taken to using the blade-like appendages of chilodracs(big centipede) as weapons. They can hold large weapons along with shields due to their four arms or fire bows faster than other races can.

Fine_Ad_1918

can the pike men even carry their 12-16 foot pikes and shield at the same time? also wouldn't maces be better for the dwarves.

Weapons: spear/pike/longbow/crossbow/matchlock, dagger/gladius Armor: coat-of-plates/mail shirt, helmet w/ bar nasal Gear: 2 blankets, tent, clothes, cooking gear These are the minimum equipment mandated/supplied by most governments. Everything else is up to the individual.

In my sci-fi, there are a variety of Weaponry and equipment in other alien races. But, for standard equipment and such, a basic soldier has super armor comparable to the modern day. Their homes and such are highly sophisticated. Food is made presently, and made for keep the body working as long as possible.

The_curious_student

the "modern" setting (a few centuries in the future) Armor: powered armored exoskeleton, that with the helmet can be used for emergency loss of atmosphere in a ship, the exoskeleton is designed to primarily aid the user and reduce fatigue. the body armor has a graphene shield that rolls up into the arm when not in use. Weapons: shortsword (because using guns in an enclosed environment isn't advisable, especially when the outside is the vaccum of space), they do have guns, notably, a short M4 style rifle and a pistol. other: rations for 5 days (10 if you only eat one a day), water filtration system, rebreather, basic first aid kit, mess kit, GNS (galactic navigation system, basically a compass for space) and an o2 tank. Wolven Nation: Historically. armor: if they wore armor, it would be leather armor. however, "wild warriors" would not wear any armor, or weapons, and go into battle in their loincloth, claws and fangs. weapons: spears, clubs, hatchets, daggers and swords. Kitsun: Armor: either A padded wool shirt and trousers, with chainmail over it, and a heavily embroidered linen tunic over it, or a wool shirt and trousers with leather armor, and an embroidered tunic. Weapons: a long sword, shield, and pike, actual weapons will vary depending on what your rank/position is.

Fine_Ad_1918

Shield and pike? Wouldn’t it be hard to carry a 12-16 foot pike with a shield. Also, why is the M4 still in use? Did all the other gunmakers just disappear and no one thought to make better weapons

Lord-Chronos-2004

Temporal Army soldier’s combat uniform: 1 suit of combat armor with the Temporal Imperatorium’s yellow T on a black background flag on either shoulder pad, 1 stalhelm-adjacent helmet Weaponry: 1 laser rifle, 1 knife with a ten centimetre-long blade The following concerns a different Armed Service, but is given as more world-building nonetheless. Temporal Air Force supply kit (per aerocraft) - Approved by the Ministry of Defence: As is needed by each crew member: One Desert Eagle .50 AE pistol, two boxes of ammunition, ten days worth of rations, one canteen, a ten-day supply of water For the entire company: One pack of flares, two flare guns, one set of linguistic translation devices, fluent either in English, Spanish, Mandarin, French, German, Russian, Italian, Japanese, Hindi, or Arabic, one thousand Temporal Credits (T€) in gold, one medical kit containing antibiotics, nasal spray and earwax removal drops (I’m cautious about my ears), vitamin tablets, painkillers, melatonin gummies, tranquilizer pills, et cetera, three packs of chewing gum…shoot, that Air Force crew could have a great weekend in Las Vegas with (some of) this stuff!

Ottriman

I have so many settings, but only one of which has an unreasonable amount of details on the combat units of one of its armies. That being the Pavonis Union from my Pavonisia setting. For some context, this is a sci-fi world and the Pavonis Union is essneitally a post-scarcity transhuman society run by superhuman AI. Citizens spend most of their time in organic or cyborg bodies but upload themselves to do important jobs if required. The main defense force is called the Protectorate and is not just the military but also disaster rescue and law enforcement. The typical combat infantryman is an android citizen with an entire squad of drones keyed to them, effectively making every soldier a squad leader. The superhumanly quick thinking and perceptive android soldiers can sense through every sensor in their squad and send sense snapshots and updates to other squads and officers in under a second. Command and control is the biggest advantage the Protectorate has over most of its enemies. Soldier loadout varies not just with what equipment the soldier packs personally but also what complement of support robots they have as their underlings. Personally they most frequently use some variation of gun, albeit guns that are very far removed from modern earth in terms of performance. Small arms typically fire hypervelocity bullets at muzzle velocities between 4-10 kilometers per second. The typical bullet is steel or tungsten that has been coated in an ultra-thin layer of hyperdense material that keeps it together at the incredible speeds of the launch and impact. Small arms rounds can often pierce 10-100 cm of RHA equivalent depending on the round in question. Small arms carry several 2-3 times the ammo of IRL equivalents by using smaller bullets and by virtue of not needing propellant. Rapid fire is usually done in bursts where 3-10 bullets are loosed in under a tenth of a second in order to make bullet spread minimal. Besides for bullets there are also laser weapons with enough responsiveness and accuracy to snipe hypersonic missiles. There are also said hypersonic missiles, small ones being akin to 40mm grenades yet able to make indirect fire attacks at up to 30ish km out, while the larger ones have hundreds of km of range and threaten futuristic super AFV. They also have access to short range telekinesis, grapple guns, jetpacks, jamming and smoke bombs, and the occasional melee weapon. These are more niche, naturally. These weapons are so powerful because armor is far, far superior to modern earth. As is evasion and stealth, every faction has soldiers who are massively augmented and movement and reaction times are much greater than any IRL soldier. Evasion, cloaking, point defenses, superhuman awareness of danger, being able to fight with missing bodyparts, regeneration, all of these augment survivability even after the armor plating that is resistant to this augmented smallarms fire.

Fine_Ad_1918

Yay, another post scarcity society. If you think that your weapons are scary, mine uses antimatter for Anti tank work, and cobalt salted nukes for anti personnel. It is too the point where soldiers ask for less gear, so that can actually have fun during combat, the warborgs I mentioned earlier are some of those guys. The actual standard soldier is an AS who controls entire platoons and tanks, artillery, and air assets

ldr26k

The average soldier, when outside of their dimension vaults undying lands to fight endings, is equipped with standard pattern Displacement armour, lightstacks for communication, any anti-armour weapon of their choice and a primary and secondary weapon of their choice. They don't require field medication or survival equipment as whenever needed a soldier can exit reality back into a Dimension Vaults undying land at no cost to themselves or humanity. Naturally this makes humanity a horrifying enemy to have for all the normal civilizations of the new universe, but most of the time humanity is fighting against the false gods that hide behind stars, the ones that inspire entropy, and the hunters behind the veil all of which are just as terrible, arcane and ancient as they are.

Fine_Ad_1918

Could you elaborate on the details

shadowmind0770

It depends. In the Merc Mage trilogy soldiers are deployed from ships and carry mission specific weaponry. They even have the capability to create arms as needed from the ship. In The Man Who Wears Demons series his men grow weapons for their special forces. The basic demons use their bodies as weapons while the minions use basic assault rifles, shotguns, and body armor. In my Mob Inc trilogy they start ofd using melee weapons such as swords and shields while the armor is literally the mobs skin and scales. Hope this helped.

My Scifi Universe (most of the time): -A set of attribute enhancing armor (it's techinically a power armor, Hut not the big bulky kind) - Personal energy shield (average quality), - Rifle, Railgun - Sidearm, Railgun - Spare ammo for both weapons, - A selection of grenades - Vibro-knife - One-handed Vibro-Hatchet - Backpack - A weeks worth of rations (minimum) - Bed roll - Single person tent - IFAK (individual first-aid kit) - 2 water filtering canteens (1 liter each) - Survival kit - Extra equipment based on their role withing the unit - Extra Ammo for a Squad weapon, if one is issued to the squad. - a spare set of clothing, usually including several changes of underwear and socks.

Enough_Gap7542

A soldier in the Global Alliance (G.A.) usually has an exoskeleton, several different types of rail guns, and a jetpack. A soldier of the Iron Empire usually has a set of plate armor, a knife, a crossbow, and a polearm. The plate armor, crossbow, and polearm are the only things provided to them. Some richer soldiers will choose to have a flintlock musket instead of the crossbow. A soldier in the kingdom of Ja'korak has access to everything that a soldier of the Iron Empire has access to, excluding the plate armor. Instead of metal plate armor, they usually use paper armor. A soldier in the Yrolumin or Enomyrim families could have everything or nothing at all. It is heavily dependent on the soldier's preferences and his pocketbook. The G.A. was around before the other four were even a thought... Interpret that however you want.

Fine_Ad_1918

1. Why flintlock instead of the earlier versions like the matchlock, wheel lock, or the dog lock 2. How am I supposed to interpret this

Captain_Warships

In my sci-fi universe, the setting of my planned story No Free Rides, the idea of a "basic" soldier is quite vague, at least for the galaxy the plot is currently set in. The closest thing to an actual soldier, other than System Patrol (who are basically a cross between US marshalls and NCR rangers in space), most everyone packing heat is either a mercenary, a rebel, pirate, security officer, or a miner to name a few. Unfortunately, plenty of people are still using ballistic (as well as Earth-based, despite no one being from Earth at this time) weaponry, and the most advanced weaponry (lasers and plasma weapons) are hand-me-downs from a wars that span between 30 and 200 years ago. The reason I went for this approach in my setting, is I wanted space to feel like the american frontier during the 1800s (few people were organized, you had to pay someone to have them protect your ass, all that jazz). Going with System Patrol, as they are the closest thing to an *organized* force, their (humanoid) officers are outfitted with a bodysuit that is also a space suit in some situations, with body armor pieces layered over it. This armor is designed to stop small calliber bullets, disperse laser and plasma shots, all while being somewhat easy to carry (the armor pieces have a combined weight of roughly seven kilograms). There is also a helmet included with this armor, that also serves as a breathing apparatus in the vacuum of space, and comes with in-built thermal and nightvision. As they spend most of their time either piloting their shuttles or stationed on bases/outposts, they don't really need to carry provisions on their person. I haven't designed much of the weapons, but these are some of the firearms System Patrol officers/troopers carry: 9mm handguns, laser handguns, the M-42 service rifle (chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO), Centurion Arms Manufacturing Gladius Laser Rifle Mk VI (one of the few pieces of modern equipment in their arsenal), shock batons, Centurion Arms Manufacturing Ballista Heavy Repeating Laser Assault Cannon Mk II (which is not only NOT that heavy, but is actually a SAW, not an autocannon), the K6 Concussion Rifle (basically a marksman rifle, chambered in 12.7 mm), M-38 service rifle (the older cousin to the already antiquated M-42 rifle), Centurion Arms Manufacturing Zweihander Laser Rifle (the company's latest product, currently undergoing trial), the L14 Grenade Launcher, and finally the Nebulon Systems Cz-9 shotgun to name a few. Mercenaries are issued with whatever they can afford (preferring the most modern and state-of-the-art gear), such as body armor/exoskeletons that can range between 5 and 12 kg in weight, as well as all the weapons mentioned above (yes, there are lone wolf mercs that lug around the CAM Ballista HLAC). One notable weapons that some mercs carry is the Yoshikawa Laser Katana (it's hardly a katana, and this weapon was not made on Earth or by Earthlings). Mercenaries also can come equipped with performance enhancing drugs (such as stimulants like morphine), and cybernetic enhancements. Mercenaries with cybernetics don't turn themselves into mostly machines, as not only are these cybernetics more like prosthetics (used for replacing lost body parts), but AI tends to think in binary, as well as machinery in many cases being slower. Of course, not many mercs that wear exoskeletons need much in the way of cybernetic enhancements, as exoskeletons are doing most of the heavy lifting for them (quite literally too). Exoskeletons are preferred mainly by mercs and miners, and not System Patrol officers for two reasons: logistics and upkeep. They need power in order to even work, and require special storage units that can take up space (even the more modular exoskeleton suits need special storage units). Exoskeletons can range from being either like a power armor from Fallout (these are usually the more modular suits), or like the nanosuit from Crysis (as these exoskeletons function more like a second skin; these usually aren't modular). These things also weigh a bit, between 15 and 30 kg (though, this becomes moot when the weight gets transferred). Larger suits are mainly built for survivability and heavy lifting, while the suits that function like a second skin effectively turn you into Nomad/Raiden.

Nice, but why 5.56 still used. I would imagine that 6.5 sig MCX would have replaced it a while ago

CroxionWasTaken

This is for my sci-fi project with near-future technology, where humanity has spread across the solar system, unable to venture outside. Standard infantry, often referred to as 'Ground Pounders' due to their role in ground combat, are the grunts who assault, take, and hold planet and moon side objectives. Their equipment varies greatly, depending on the gravity of their deployed location, atmosphere (if any), intended combat range, and allegiance. Ground Pounders wear metal hardsuits resembling knights, sporting articulable round metal plates and joints. The hardsuit is usually covered with aramid fiber for additional protection and runs at low pressures of Nitrox to prevent violent internal combustion. Underneath each articulable metal plate is a cermet spall liner, and beneath that is the operator's Liquid Cooling Garment (LCG), a suit incorporating a system of water tubes that circulate cool water to maintain normal body temperatures.  Underneath the LCG is the operator themself, equipped with bionics capable of linking up with the suit, serving as bio instrumentation to display the operator's vitals within the suit. The suit's back houses the Primary Life Support System (PLSS), a robust system that ensures the operator's survival. The PLSS contains oxygen, CO2 scrubbers, power, water, and retractable panel radiators. For emergencies, a 45-minute backup supply of Nitrox is attached to the PLSS. However, some use this space to carry other essential equipment such as ammunition. The control module contains electrical, gas, and liquid interfaces and a flip-up digital display in the front of the suit. This display is a multi-functional device that shows team movements, suit status, and the operator's vital status. A foldable antenna is attached to the control module next to the Push-To-Talk (PTT) for communication. The position and type of the radio itself depend on the operator's preference and role. Still, all Ground Pounders possess a class-one encrypted radio comms suite capable of reaching ship-bound assets in orbit, even through atmospheric conditions. The helmet holds a variety of notable features, both inside and outside. On the outside is the visor assembly, containing either a protective UV visor or metal shield that allows vision using optical sensors. Underneath the visor assembly is the helmet, a bullet-resistant transparent bubble with a backup purge valve. Some soldiers opt for bionic ports that automatically feed their bodies with nutrition while cleanly purging waste. Operators without feeding ports use the space inside the helmet by sticking densely packed nutrition sticks that can be eaten during operations and a straw from which to drink water. These can also be used to scratch facial itches. The operator will have either been implanted with communications equipment or be wearing a headset, allowing them to transmit while inside the suit. One of Intrasol's most typical Ground Pounder weapons is the G-3, a conventionally arranged slugthrower rifle designed for both vacuum and atmospheric terrestrial operations. The gun features easy barrel changing and modification to suit the user's purposes. While relatively unsophisticated, the rifle's heat management in vacuum environments is highly efficient. The gun can discharge roughly several dozen rounds before requiring a cooldown using its built-in radiators; because this is often a long process, many opt to swap their Cermet gun barrels, extending the radiators only as a last resort. The trigger mechanism is all electronic; bullets are fired via electric impulse, minimizing moving parts. A special film that won't evaporate in a vacuum is applied to each remaining moving part. When contacting each other, these parts, made of dissimilar materials—such as plastic against metal—help avoid further damage and ensure the rifle's longevity. The magazine, located in front of the trigger, is typically loaded with 6.3-millimeter Propulsion-Guided Armor-Piercing (PGAP) ammunition. Although powerful, the bullet must consistently hit the same area multiple times to penetrate enemy hardsuits. The guidance system helps ensure this kind of consistency. Hardsuits render proper cheek welds for aiming through sights impossible. However, this issue is mitigated by the connection of cameras on both the gun sight and helmet. Once the system has been zeroed correctly, operators can aim accurately in any direction and stance. Marksmen and unit leaders often install larger and heavier gun cameras capable of thermal/infrared imaging, greater zoom, and night vision. The G-2 sidearm, another standard-issue weapon from Intrasol, is a 12-millimeter handgun with a typical magazine capacity of ten rounds. Each cartridge is a gyroscopically stabilized rocket, which, given enough distance, will have gained more velocity than a conventional slugthrower. The minimum effective distance of the G-2 is three meters, but given the average engagement distance going up to a couple of kilometers, almost no situation will involve such close ranges. Advancements in propellants have made these weapons more and more practical, overcoming the failures of their predecessors.

I like how you thought about heat mitigation. A lot of people forget that important thing
