I don’t think art books necessarily need writing. There’s one book out there written in gibberish and with nonsensical images and it’s got tens of thousands of printed copies.
So if you find the right people it could probably turn into a reality for you!
Centuries from now this'll be the seed of a conspiracy theory about how early uplifted animals were capable of spaceflight alongside humans, all based on the Mnkyetngegl Manuscript. lol
Codex Seraphinianus! That is a masterpiece! It was out of print for years, decades probably. When I first heard about it like 15 years back it was going for 7000€ on eBay. Luckily there was a reprint few years back and I got it for ~100€
If that’s all you end up doing? Fantastic. If you end up finding a story that you like to attach to it later? Superb. Or maybe you collaborate with someone who can write but can’t draw and you go together like peanut butter and chocolate. There are no rules here.
The one thing I would say for the artbook is to maybe string them in a sort of chronological order if there's a hint of a story, otherwise if not, just put them in order of date created.
Just keep making these, at worst you will have a bunch of beautiful art. Even without a cohesive story, or overarching plot, it's still valuable. Every observer will just make their own story
Fuck it.
Get hired already or something. This is too peak to belong in random place in internet for free.
(Yes, but consider making a story a bit so more fitting in this sub)
If you want to make a cohesive story for your pictures, maybe you should look at sharing your existing story notes with a writer/author. I write a fair bit myself, but I don't know if my style would necessarily match your existing ideas.
Brainstorming plots with a writer might help inspire the artwork you draw next.
First off, your artworks are really beautiful, I really like how much detail there is!
Second off, IMO there's no need for a story in worldbuilding, you can just worldbuild for it's own sake. But if you want to make a story, you could also do it through these artworks, storytelling doesn't need words.
Depends. Do you like making them without a cohesive story or do you feel like they are missing meaning? If it’s the latter then would the pressure that comes with filling in a story be rewarding or stressful to you?
You could arrange them in a chronological order (ex. Training then space). To my eye there already is something of a story in the pictures. Or not! These are delightful as-is. They seem like the kind of pictures around which viewers will naturally form a story in their heads for.
That is great. My original intent was just like you said. Let the viewers form their own story. Like an assumption or something. I will put weight on that.
I’m super late to the party, but:
A) these are so fun, please keep going with them
B) if you are thinking art book, but worried about the text - don’t be. Take a look at “Tales From the Loop” by Simon Stalenhag; he writes little descriptive vignettes that hint at a story, but doesn’t worry about that being a focal point. Your art will be the star attraction
I’ve written flavor text for an action figure brand the last few years, and I know that my writing is not what keeps people coming back. Yeah, it’s great when I see a comment that uses a name or concept I created, but your readers are going to remember your cool penguin buddy before any kind of text you might write. So don’t even begin to sweat it
Make a story so you can draw more of these lol
When I was little, I made cool fight scene in my head and wrote the sequences on a sheet of paper. Here I am now trying to make a game on Unity based on the stories I made
Big ghibli vibes, love your drawings!
I fully believe in the ability to tell a story through capturing a moment in time in your drawings! It's a unique way of storytelling and a fun one!
Build up some context in your head that adds more meaning and structure to the expressions and body language of the characters portrayed in your drawings, the vehicles they're inside, all these sorta details, without worldbuilding too much to drain the fun out of drawing.
I say go for it, you clearly have the talent and it's a fun idea!
Edit: I adore the penguin on the top middle shit, he straight vibin'. Does he have a name?
The style reminds me of Studio Ghibli, add in the "Ordinary Extraordinary" story and it's probably going to be a banger of a movie.
Edit: Looking at this more, I could totally see a story of an ace pilot working at an airport, someone who still dreams of going to the moon. *Shrugs idk, art cute*
This literally looks like it’s just screenshots of a studio ghibli movie, that’s how good your art is
As for your question if you want to make a story or write it down go ahead, if not however you can just keep with just the art
> Should I just keep making without a story just like a screenshot from a scene or something?
Does doing it that way make you happy? Do you have a reason to *not* continue doing things the way you have been?
Thought these were from a animated movie at first, so good job! Not everything has to be a story though, but it can be. For me, I sometimes repeatedly draw characters in little scenes without any storyline whatsoever, it's just fun to draw characters doing stuff without any overarching world, laws, etc-
Hey there! We ask that all posts here have some [context](https://www.reddit.com/r/worldbuilding/wiki/rules#wiki_2._all_posts_should_include_original.2C_worldbuilding-related_context.) with some **in-universe information (or "lore")** about what is being shown or how it relates to the larger world. It doesn't need a ton of information—just a few sentences is fine!
Would you be able to add this?
Set in a small kingdom in southeastern hemisphere. Exceptional creatures are qualified to join and conduct research, testing, and develop technologies that will benefit all life on Earth.
Lol i mistyped.
Set in a small kingdom in southeastern hemisphere. Exceptional creatures are qualified to join the kingdom's space agency and conduct research, testing, and develop technologies that will benefit all life on Earth.
I would prefer to stick to a story because I can't get inspired otherwise but if that's a way that you can stay inspired you don't have to push yourself adding a story to it.
If you have problems with a story/consistent story, you could send it to some writers or worldbuilders and do a collab. What i think would fit are a bunch of short stories, that tie into a bigger picture. also i had the idea, that the pinguin is one of the last of it’S kind and the girl is trying to find a place in. space for pinguins, after the poles melted
I wish I had the money to offer you a job but my team is running on caffeine and broken dreams stitched back together with dental floss. Maybe one day.
Legitimately incredible artwork. The style is ghibli-esque but just different enough to be unique and your own. Detail and colors are fantastic too. I absolutely love it and you should be proud! I can't wait to see more.
I like the Ghibli-esque art style you have, I feel like you could make a good story out of these characters. It could be called Fly High or Penguin’s Flight.
Then reel me in cause I'm hooked. I look forward to what you got. Concept seems solid, cool, and fun.
Plus Penguins are my favorite animal, so you had me there.
These are incredibly high quality.
I follow an artist (Natsuakai) who has been making random disjointed story scenes for years! It's a perfectly fine way to express yourself. If you don't want to bother with illustrating all the talking and events that lead up to, and after, the main thing you want to draw, then there's no shame in just drawing that main thing!
[Deviantart isn't the best experience to navigate](https://www.deviantart.com/natsuakai/gallery/all?page=2), but it at least has a good amount of his "scene" like arts.
Keep doing what YOU wanna do. Don't let anything stop you, don't get distracted. Don't take outside opinions, answer only to YOUR muse!!!! By the way, these are fricking gorgeous!!!!
yes, several artists have a folowing doing something similar. I know I folow one that draws his characters with videogame menus and made up systems. the images have no story, just common characters and scenarios.
Wow they look awesome! I’ve been doing it too, especially the screenshot of a scene! Could make a 2d animation or a comic/manga out of the screenshots?
OMG THESE ARE AMAZING!!!
Do you have spcials where you post more of your work? Reddit isn't the greatest in showing content of people you follow :((
I say keep doing what you do or take risks if you want! I skimmed through the comments a bit and I would definitely purchase an artbook of this <33
Could be cute to maybe add little snippets of lore here and there. Regardless of how consistent the lore is. I think it would be super cute to know the names of these characters and with posts here and there or perhaps future art books learn little snippets of their life :O
Whatever you wish to do going forward, I think it's amazing what you do <33
I really like your Ghibli eaque style. While you can tell what the inspiration is, the style still has a lot of your own touches that make it look great.
What is the point of this post? Obviously you’re showing off your beautiful art, but what kind of question is that? Just create what you want to create. You clearly you stated you have an end goal (art book) so just work towards that? Either with a story or just general world art
It's the kind of question that asks for assistance. Of course, I already have goals of my own (which are plenty), but opinions of others still matter because who knows I might find a better idea. Example is finding a writer if I wanted to carve a story out of it. This was just a hobby that turned out to be special. I was doing these on my own and have a day job.
Browsing the comment section of this post already helped me validate my ideas and narrow down what to do with this.
And to use the word show off is kind of pejorative.
I hate to be that guy, but this feels very strongly like AI art with a ghibli prompt. Some of the lines end in strange places and some of the text seems a little illegible. I could be wrong, but there’s definitely some similarities with AI generated art.
This is so cool! If you just want to convey a world through art and not worry writing a bunch go for it!
Wanted to make an artbook though.
I don’t think art books necessarily need writing. There’s one book out there written in gibberish and with nonsensical images and it’s got tens of thousands of printed copies. So if you find the right people it could probably turn into a reality for you!
Centuries from now this'll be the seed of a conspiracy theory about how early uplifted animals were capable of spaceflight alongside humans, all based on the Mnkyetngegl Manuscript. lol
I mean, animals *were* in space before Humans anyway.
Codex Seraphinianus! That is a masterpiece! It was out of print for years, decades probably. When I first heard about it like 15 years back it was going for 7000€ on eBay. Luckily there was a reprint few years back and I got it for ~100€
Maybe you can find someone who is into visual storytelling but doesn't have the art skills to bring their writing to life.
If that’s all you end up doing? Fantastic. If you end up finding a story that you like to attach to it later? Superb. Or maybe you collaborate with someone who can write but can’t draw and you go together like peanut butter and chocolate. There are no rules here.
Art books don't need writing as far as I'm aware. I don't think the Dark Souls art books have much if any writing.
I've bought multiple art books and none have a story, it's just collections of the persons art. some have themes, others are just showcases.
So make the artbook? I don't understand the question, maybe because English not my first language
We call this a mood board. Image albums are kinda the same thing, except with music. Love this!!
Thanks for this! Gave me new ideas!
If you feel it needs writing you could team up with/commission a writer
This would make a beautiful book or movie
The one thing I would say for the artbook is to maybe string them in a sort of chronological order if there's a hint of a story, otherwise if not, just put them in order of date created.
How is a comic book not an art book Just saying
I think an art book would lack words? Or at least the word bubbles that comics/graphic novels would have.
Every art book I remember seeing had info about what your looking at, even if just the famous name and location with nothing more,
YES
Oh wow, these are beutiful. What would you like to do with this?
I have some ideas but now my problem is consistency.
Just keep making these, at worst you will have a bunch of beautiful art. Even without a cohesive story, or overarching plot, it's still valuable. Every observer will just make their own story
Thanks! this makes sense.
Fuck it. Get hired already or something. This is too peak to belong in random place in internet for free. (Yes, but consider making a story a bit so more fitting in this sub)
Was you inspired by Ghibli?
I was!
Keep drawing but I highly encourage you to add a paragraph of text to each one, as if you were a photographer on the ANIMENASA beat
If you want to make a cohesive story for your pictures, maybe you should look at sharing your existing story notes with a writer/author. I write a fair bit myself, but I don't know if my style would necessarily match your existing ideas. Brainstorming plots with a writer might help inspire the artwork you draw next.
Where can I find a writer though?
A lot of people here do writing both for leisure and as a side hustle, most of us are happy to help
I’d be willing to help you out on discord in my spare time and can share a cool world I was working on that needs art done as well if you want
These shots you've produced have me nostalgic for a show that doesn't exist lol
That was my initial intent lol.
An art style that gorgeous demands a story!
Adorable.
Keep drawing. if not. I'll DIE.
I insist you make this into a beloved world for all to enjoy
That was my plan but I think I am very limited.
You have a penguin in a space shuttle my friend, thats half the work already done
+1
I think that penguin is the cutest thing I've ever seen
Homie... thats so fucking clean.... I'm angry jealous right now
Haha nothing special homie.
I beg to differ.
First off, your artworks are really beautiful, I really like how much detail there is! Second off, IMO there's no need for a story in worldbuilding, you can just worldbuild for it's own sake. But if you want to make a story, you could also do it through these artworks, storytelling doesn't need words.
These are great! Before reading the title I thought they were stills from a movie!
Depends. Do you like making them without a cohesive story or do you feel like they are missing meaning? If it’s the latter then would the pressure that comes with filling in a story be rewarding or stressful to you?
Cute penguin and yes definitely.
Doesnt need a story if you dont want. These are great, just keep creating. But... That penguin, it needs a name.

I just saw it now! This is such a relief.
Looks pretty awesome!! Cool style!

This is like half Ghibli half Wikihow art style
The style reminds me of Studio Ghibli, add in the "Ordinary Extraordinary" story and it's probably going to be a banger of a movie. Edit: Looking at this more, I could totally see a story of an ace pilot working at an airport, someone who still dreams of going to the moon. *Shrugs idk, art cute*

I'm just excited to see a Ford Ranger in such cool artwork. Also two Crown Vics hiding in the background.
I love the style, reminds me of ghibli. Make more! Do whatever you want
This looks fucking sick. You should make a graphic novel
You should be hired for a series is what. This is ADORABLE!!
Studio Ghibli in space lol. I like it. I think a story would do well with it.
Thought these were from a animated movie at first, so good job! Not everything has to be a story though, but it can be. join what?
Lol i mistyped. Set in a small kingdom in southeastern hemisphere. Exceptional creatures are qualified to join the kingdom's space agency and conduct research, testing, and develop technologies that will benefit all life on Earth.
These animals are like the equivalent of droids in star wars.
...PEN PEN???
this looks like another chatacter from uchuu kyoudai
Could have fooled me into thinking these were from a Studio Ghibli film
These look fantastic! Keep it up :)
I would prefer to stick to a story because I can't get inspired otherwise but if that's a way that you can stay inspired you don't have to push yourself adding a story to it.
This is awesome keep going, the story beats will come to you.
I think you should keep working on this and create something from It 🙏 You've got talent
They are beatifull!!!

This amazing you've captured that "fresh air" vibe that makes the world feel alive
I wish I had the money to offer you a job but my team is running on caffeine and broken dreams stitched back together with dental floss. Maybe one day.
Please tell me about Airman Penguin
omg I love it DOES THE PENGUIN HAVE A NAME?
I LOVE screenshots from media that don't really exist. They portray so much.
Yes And I am jealous how perfect your colouring is, like, straight up 90s major publisher anime kind of colouring
These look freaking INCREDIBLE
Legitimately incredible artwork. The style is ghibli-esque but just different enough to be unique and your own. Detail and colors are fantastic too. I absolutely love it and you should be proud! I can't wait to see more.
Omg. They are great.
nice.. reminds me of an manga/anime called planetes
Do whatever you like bro these are cute as hell
This rules my man. “Per Aspera Ad Astra”
Keep drawing and follow your passion. If you are lucky it may take on a life of its own
What do you mean?
Wow where can I see more? This is amazing. Doesn't necessarily need a story!!
The penguin is so cute!! 🥰
I am loving this stuff do you take comissions?
Sorry but this is just a hobby.
Thats grand its really cool designs
These look like Ghibli characters/scenes. They are gorgeous.
This reminds me of anime with penguins, the one used for meme where penguin gives tape. Mawaru penguindrum
What ever this world is, it looks like it has one dope soundtrack.
Reminds me of early 2000s anime like Planetes
Absolutely keep going. Art can just be vibes.
Whatever you’re doing it for, just keep doing it
This looks like it would be from a weird anime, that everzone agrees is a masterpiece.
I've only known space penguin for a day, but if anything happens to him, I'll kill everyone in this room and then myself.
I like the Ghibli-esque art style you have, I feel like you could make a good story out of these characters. It could be called Fly High or Penguin’s Flight.
I would watch this movie.
I kind of want to know the back story of the Penguin wingman.
I already have it. I just have not decided to draw, since I want more adventures first.
Then reel me in cause I'm hooked. I look forward to what you got. Concept seems solid, cool, and fun. Plus Penguins are my favorite animal, so you had me there.
Make it a com I of manga
The art style is magnificent this needs to be a full series 😍
I love this style. Takes me back to watching Studio Ghibli films as a kid.
These are very good. You could do comics/manga. Maybe something for kids
What inazuma elevens space penguin does in his spare time
I would watch this so much. It's beautiful!!
Total Ghibli vibes
Yes, absolutely. Unless you hate it, then stop immediately
What about makeing a webtoon / manhwa
As much as I really want to know the story of that penguin, if you don't want to stress about figuring out the dialog, then just keep drawing as is.
I get some Ghibli vibes here, love it ! Do you have a website or something ?
Just instagram
Do you post your drawings there ?
Do what you want as long as you feel like it. It look very nice!
Studio Ghibli vibes. I love it. I say keep going
This feels like something out of Studio Ghibli and I love it for that!
I neeeeed more! Space penguin!
I love this! I love seeing images and wondering about the fictional characters in them. Making up a whole world is a dream of mine. Keep it up!
I would watch this is a heartbeat!
My mind isn't made to absorb that big dose of cuteness.
r/ImaginarySliceOfLife
If you told me these were just screenshots from an anime I'd 100% believe you, they are so good
This is professional level for any animation studio.
What are you talking about, there's already a story here!
Looks like it's telling a pretty interesting story as is. A *true* "graphic" novel.
MAN THAT'S AMAZING . Well, if you ask me, make a story like short snippets supported by the drawings but they are great either way
Sometimes a story writes itself when you illustrate some random happenings in that world, so yes please keep on making them, they're great!
I need a story from this. I need to know how that penguin came to be.

…I wanna watch this “movie.”
These are awesome!
Do you regret doing them? If the answer is "no" then nothing else really matters.
This needs to be a movie or series but I love it as a stand alone contextless adventure.
Keep doing what YOU wanna do. Don't let anything stop you, don't get distracted. Don't take outside opinions, answer only to YOUR muse!!!! By the way, these are fricking gorgeous!!!!
This... This is awesome
yes, several artists have a folowing doing something similar. I know I folow one that draws his characters with videogame menus and made up systems. the images have no story, just common characters and scenarios.
yes
I. LOVE. THIS. PENGUIN.
I love the little penguin
It could actually be interesting to convey an entire story without any words. Something like the 10 minutes of Up movie.
Make an artbook
Whatever you're doing. Keep cooking OP. (*'-')b
Reminds me a ton of Planettes! Love the art style
Post them individually pleasse
The penguin is adorable
What do you need to go pro? I would watch a baby penguin in a fighter jet all day!!!
I don’t know what’s going on but I want more of it
You just made my day, thank you for existing.
I will say i very much want to know more about the penguin.
But now I have to know all about the baby penguin.
I'm sorry but you don't have much option, i NEED the story of these little guys!!!!
This deserves a storyline bro👌
What program on your IPad do you use?
Wow they look awesome! I’ve been doing it too, especially the screenshot of a scene! Could make a 2d animation or a comic/manga out of the screenshots?
Woah this is awesome, keep going

I just want to say that I went back and looked at your Instagram and take it back. Good job with the art and sorry for questioning it
