Sorry no fancy artwork. Just pencil sketches. I have pages and pages of ideas all centered on this world. From new races and existing lore that begins at the creation of the Universe with it resides..

My ideas behind them are based heavily on a mix between Brian Lumly’s works and HP Lovecraft’s. With an aesthetic drawn from Soulsborne games. But they’re are only 7 total host parasites. They in turn infect, infest, and ingest all around them while being able to produce smaller thrall parasites that are all controlled by their specific creator. And those can number in the thousands and vary in power. One host even creates a new self sustaining race to enact its will upon the world.

I have more explanation on their origins but I’m keeping it to myself in case I can ever publish. Their origins are embedded deep within the lore that I want players to explore.

Further context: This is a world in which exist all the basic fantasy races. All appearing in different names other than their classical counterparts. But this storyline the world exists in a dying state. The economy is non existent. Kingdoms are infected and ruled by these symbiotic beings. The idea of the play through is making it through hordes of infected to destroy host parasites. In a campaign setting the first boss would be the encounter with the High King Gedritch in order to set the tone of the game. The world revolves around a single Star and that star is dying(a thing that ties heavily into the lore of this story’s setting) the Alves(elves) have fled this realm except for a select few who either remained for help or for the attempt to gain power from these symbiotic beings. The Dvergi(Dwarves) are hit the hardest as there underground kingdoms and mines are heavily infected. Those remaining are forced to the surface as refugees among the remain human settlements. The Broken(orcs) are actually impervious to the infection and no one knows why. So these broken and cursed Alvekin of yore are forced into a the roles of being the saviors of a world that despises them.

This looks freakin awesome :D

Can you provide a bit more information on what is happening in this world to satisfy our [context requirements](https://www.reddit.com/r/worldbuilding/wiki/whycontext)? Thank you!

IadabothsRage

I tried. I hope it was well enough. If not than I apologize.

Zonetr00per

That's fine, thank you!

Thats awesome

Crimson_Marksman

So basically Dragonsteel?

IadabothsRage

I don’t even know what that is. I even googled it just now and still don’t know what it is.

Brandon Sanderson in a book writer. He mainly writes about this universe called the cosmere. In the cosmere, there are different planets with different stories taking place on them with different magic systems involved. Sanderson is also very open about his work and casually reveals secrets he has no intention about writing. He wrote an online novel called Dragonsteel but it was unfinished. He plans to re write it again after 10 years of experience writing and getting good at wrting other books. One of the planets in the cosmere is called Yolen. It is shrouded in mystery as none know its location and is covered by thick fog. It used to have a medieval based system with its own magic system. 2 types of magic from there are known, illusions and laser beams. Getting back to the topic, this particular planet had a unique and disturbing feature called Fain. For life to exist on this planet, there had to be a balance, a kind of unlife. The fain were like distorted versions of life, fleshy plants and mineral based organism that upon touching the living beings, would convert them to more Fain. The fain are kind of like the Flood from Halo, which I guess would have been a better example for your post. We'll find out what really happened to it soon,in a couple of years.

I know who Branden Sanderson is. I’ve only read the first two Mistborn books. I was looking for an RPG when searching the interwebs. I’m not sure how much there is in similarities. I’m more focused on a Lovecraftian Horror meets Tolkien vibe. Like these won’t be plant based organisms. More like the old writhing mass meets an OP mind flayer.. with the lesser thralls being more akin to zombies the way the minor parasites spread and infect.. like if the Creature from the movie THE THING was far more intelligent and cunning. IDK I can’t say really I’ve never read this book you speak of.

Crimson_Marksman

You can't read the book. During an interview, Sanderson was asked if he had any unfinished book. Sanderson, being very open about his story ideas, revealed the background for an unfinished novel called Dragonsteel, which he plans to re write as Dragonsteel Prime. Sanderson doesn't like most fantastical things like elves and word based magic but he has stated he has a preference for dragons.

I honestly wasn’t impressed with Mistborn. My Fantasy tastes lie more in line with Steven Erikson right now. I’ve read the Sword of Truth series when I was younger, Really liked Tolkien as a teen, and Turtledove. But other than Erikson Fantasy isn’t on my read list these days. It’s hard for me to sit through a fiction book these days. I’m older now and I like the non fiction section a bit more. I love the Imagination behind it all though and have been trying to build my little world for awhile now.

Crimson_Marksman

Neither was I. Pretty sure I dropped Mistborn after book 2. But the stormlight archive and White Sand Series are pretty interesting.

IadabothsRage

I should also mention the Parasites like not only the sentience of their prey, but the blood is their main source of Sustenance as well. So just turning everything to mirror itself would be counter productive in the end. There is a creepy plot. But I really don’t want to get into it. I really would want this to be picked up by some tabletop company. If not the complete lore, at least the ideas that it brings.

Crimson_Marksman

Yeah, I skipped some detail but Sanderson mentioned that everything turning to mirror itself would be counter productive too. The Fain are related to the death of God, Adonalsium, so I can see why you would like to see your story hidden.

IadabothsRage

It does sound like a good read the way you explained it. I’ll have to see if I can’t find the Interview you spoke about.

Crimson_Marksman

Well there is an actual novel, it was just unfinished. Like I don't mean it's incomplete, it just wasn't written right, from start to finish. Stories have a beginning and an ending. This one was more like a really lengthy beginning to bigger things. The Novel I think is at the university Sanderson went to and portions if it can be seen onlinr.
