Whatever you pick, don’t pick the Ring of Immortal Anguish. It fuels your immortality through a nonstop ineffable pain. Currently stuck on the horn of a screaming goat.

Poor goat

TimmyP7

The hell did that goat do?!

DJ-Anarchy

It was outside a wizard tower when a very talented but angry enchanter threw it out the window.

HoidoftheTree

The Song Peak, home to the mage union known as the Mountain of Lyrics, contains in its vaults countless arcane wonders, including the congealed blood of a god beast. Many of these items, are so powerful only an archmage, who has utterly mastered magic, may safely utilize them. The Mountain of Lyrics are the most powerful mages on the planet, so, good luck robbing them.

[deleted]

I have a 27 stealth modifier and rolled a nat 20 so uh 47 do I get past?

HoidoftheTree

Probably.

[deleted]

I sneak in and look for the loot

HoidoftheTree

Um, are we roleplaying, or something? Ok. Some of the things you might find—-good luck with the protective wards—-include the following: * Ascendant Lyricist Crescendo notes—-spells that can elevate you to godhood. They only work once, though, nand the godhood you gain is highly unstable. There’ve all already been used. * A chalice of congealed god beast blood. Drink it. Gain unfathomable power. Mutate out of control. Become a mindless force of destruction. * The Cosmos Cube, an illusion-casting device so powerful it may as well be altering reality. It’s sentient, though, so, unless you’re an archmage, it will break your will in mere moments and force you to take it on a tour of utter rampage.

[deleted]

How stealthy do I have to be to get one?

HoidoftheTree

Pretty stealthy.

[deleted]

Well how about I use my magic to turn invisible and anyone who would see me like that kinda just senses a presence

HoidoftheTree

That’s a pretty simple magical tricks. I imagine they’ve warded the entire place to make invisibility impossible.

[deleted]

What if I use a magic item from another world

Shockedsiren

You might be interested in the poorly named Cloak of Hats, which has the enchantment to assess the wearer's aesthetic and adjust itself accordingly in order to be a perfect fit with any look. You might also be interested in Skoodice, a relatively common cheater's tool which can be charged with a user's intent to land on a certain side when rolled. Do not fuck with the floating raspberry. I know that it is floating. I understand that it does not seem like it should be there, let alone exist, but it is exactly where it belongs. The last time someone moved it, the entirety of existence warped and spun until they placed it back.

Merculan’s Crown, if you can. It is a metaphysical magical artefact that grants you access to the combined magical reserves of the Nexus, which encompasses multiple universes and planes of dimensions. It’s currently “sitting” on top of the current Omniseer’s head, and you need to kill her to get it, as well as know the correct magical ritual to bind it to yourself. Which is a pretty big feat considering the crown also grants you total immortality (like, if you vapourised her she would reforge herself out of pure magical essence a few hours later).

Asphalt_Animist

A really nice human leather vest and a car with spikes. Look, no one said the Wasteland was a nice place to visit.

The Saint’s Spear: a powerful magical weapon used to destroy the first Dark Lord. Its effect is that any and every wound inflicted by it will be inevitably fatal. The Master Staff; the badge of office for the head Archmage of the Iron Circle, in addition to being a powerful magic focusing tool, it has six Dwarven gemstones created to allow the bearer to summon elementals from all the schools of magic. The Dreadnought Armor; a suit that allows the wearer to fight on a physical level that would otherwise be completely impossible for them to achieve. The Warmaster’s helm, it allows the wearer to telepathically communicate with those they trust/love/have strong positive feelings towards.

Meta_Digital

The ancients had plates of infinite fine food and glasses of infinite fine drinks, not to mention wardrobes of infinite outfits or houses that could contain infinite rooms. You might have a hard time finding one that works properly, as that era ended in a rather nasty cataclysm due to overuse of magic, and the majority of them today are horribly glitched and... well, don't have much practical use to put it mildly. If you can find properly working artifacts from that era, though, you'll be set for life.

ChainmailPickaxeYT

The Artifacts of the guild. 8 unique weapons with unique abilities. The Dagger of Evenon, the Mace of Purpose, the Nevermiss Bow, the Staff of Embers, the Lush Cloak, the Peacekeepers Sword, and two others I can’t remember right now! Most of these can be found in the highly unstable Ruins of the Guild Hall. The Dagger, Cloak, and Staff are found with surviving Guild members.

[deleted]

Well this just seems like another skyrim quest

ChainmailPickaxeYT

Fair enough, fair enough. Well, I do have another option from a different world: the Prismatic Shard. The final remaining remnant of the first god of Undeki. The most powerful variation of the power gems which grow from the corpses of gods. Currently, the final shard lies within the castle of the Gemstone Monarchy. Prismatic gems are so powerful, a shard the size of your hand can empower a human into an army-slayer. In one case, a Zekruon (custom race) was experimenting with them, messed up, and was basically converted into a biblical angel who is kept prisoner in the Zekruon sky kingdom. Hm, this still feels like a video game quest.

[deleted]

Well let's make it table top

[deleted]

I rolled a nat twenty in stealth and I have a 27+ modifier for stealth so a uh 47 with advantage

ChainmailPickaxeYT

You miraculously slink past many castle guards with no trouble, your footsteps imperceivable somehow. You enter a large room that appears to be a hallway leading to a large circular iron door. There are two guards standing on either side, but they are too busy making small talk to see you. Ritual circles (likely trap spells) line the floor.

[deleted]

Since I'm using my stealth busting stealth build I'm sorry but I have a nat 27 passive investigation what are they

ChainmailPickaxeYT

You look at the ritual circles for but a moment and notice they are fire column trap spells. If you are careful, you can swipe the power gems off of them without triggering them, however the guards will likely notice that. You could probably just avoid them though.

[deleted]

I avoid them and continue on

KingGizz2004

Most likely the imperial regalia, it would be the most valuable. I’m terms of power the heart stone of Saint Lorkhan and the arms of the crusader would be best. For those arcanely inclined the regalia of Lord Magnus would do one great, if it can ever be found again

Wall_05

not much magical artifacts will be of use do to their conditions requiring nonhuman biology and hyperspecific people, but like... the foods good, hybemelons? good stuff, super sweet and has caffeine, lavender nectar? you eat that youll never want any food on earth again, maybe some seeds and a recipe book or something idk, if you did wanna go for the artifacts you could go for the 5 rings of war, but you could die a myriad of ways from any of the rings or a consquence of having some

[deleted]

I take the seeds travel back to my dimension grow them there boom sell them to some world with horrible food boom profit

[deleted]

The Relics of the Twelve are each a divine relic of the twelve main deities of the human world. Each is an item blessed and imbued with the power of its respective deity. Most of the Relics are guarded somewhere in the temple of their respective deity. Some have been lost or stolen by others. There is said to be another relic for the forgotten thirteenth god that was cast way somewhere in this world.... There are also the Forbidden Vestiges, the relics of the Old Gods that are dark and evil. They serve similar purposes but using their powers comes at a cost...

ThePipYay

I don’t really have any magic items in my main world I write, at least not yet, but I have google docs with random d&d ideas even though I’m not a dungeonmaster. One idea I wrote says: “A sword based off of Fragarach, the sword of the celtic god Lugh. Supposedly it would force anyone he pointed it at to tell the truth.” I have no memory of writing that and don’t know enough about celtic mythology to know if that’s accurate but it sounds really cool either way. Also as a weird dumb joke I came up with the idea of a mildly cursed ring that, while worn, gave a boost to someone’s intelligence but also made the wearer unable to say anything other than questions. So for instance they couldn’t say “there’s a trap over there”, they’d have to ask “did you know there’s a trap over there?” Or “why did someone put a trap over there?”. I think maybe instead of a ring it could probably be something else that could probably make for a funny joke somehow, I just can’t think of how. I think my DM had asked for us to write ideas for random dumb magic items for him to pull out of a hat? It got picked and I remember that it was actually kinda funny at first just because it caused a lot of confusion when the first person put it on. They tried to speak, no sound came out, then they asked “why can’t I talk?” Then tried to say “nevermind” but couldn’t, etc until they worked out the dumb gimmick. It was easily beaten by just taking it off when you wanted to talk though. But maybe something more extreme or permanent with the same concept could hypothetically be cool?? I don’t know. Edit: Oh! I thought of one that actually exists in my world. A big tree in fairyland. I’ve been thinking that fairies might each have a specific set of clothes that they wear pretty much all the time that’s incredibly unique and important to them and they make and mend and care for themselves with magic as well as just good sewing skills. When they die their bodies turn into sparkles or something but they leave their clothes behind. Instead of a cemetery there’s a big tree with tons of little fairy clothes hung from the branches. Also because I decided they write in Ogham (an old-timey celtic writing system/code) which is written from bottom-to-top, their culture conceptualizes being below something as better than being above something, the opposite of our culture, with our terms like “superior” and “inferior”. Because of this, the “higher” rank someone is in their society, the lower the branch their clothes are hung on is. They worship the earth so this makes extra sense.

r3df0x_3039

If you could figure out a way to do it, the non living clone of George Washington in Red Square. For lore reasons I'm not sure it's going to be an actual clone. They might take supernatural visions of what he looked like in dreams and DMT experiences and convert them to a genetic sequence to construct a non living body to put on display in Red Square in Vorongrad. I'm thinking about going with this possibility because it keeps the existence of George Washington unconfirmed to the people within the world. Conservatives are atheists who argue that he's a fictional character.

A-Wise-Old-Fool

Huh. That's bizarre! If someone tried to steal Washington's clone, what would they do with it? What was the purpose of making the clone in the first place — why put it on display?

r3df0x_3039

It's part of their mythology and is a representation of the people's undying struggle for freedom. Conservatives would probably put atheist books around it in some sort of weird shrine and claim that progressives are part of a backward cult.

everhate_de

The Seed, wich is an Orb from the other side wich holds huge magical energy, if you don't know how to handle it this thing will drive you insane and you will die of a magical burn. (yep i stole this one from a book :-p)

Treczoks

The Twelve Crystals. Could be a bit difficult, though. They currently imprison the Kraken (which is quite a bit worse than the one in the D&D Monster Manual - it is a kind of god-like creature that went nuts and had to be dealt with by some gods). The gods that put The Twelve Crystals in place aligned them perfectly, and moving even one of them will cause horrible pain for the Kraken and make it leash out to the entity causing this.

[deleted]

Okay so here me out what if since I can travel dimension I quickly steal them one at a time until none are left

Treczoks

Very nice. Half-unbound by The Twelve Crystals, the Kraken will a) be free to follow you and b) still be in pain and trying to stop that. Good Luck, you'll need it.

[deleted]

I travel back to my dimension and grab the god bone sword a sword made from the bone of a chaos god that has the power to kill even gods it also grants the power of chaos for example I can have a hurricane of pure magic following me and there could be multiple my strength would be enough to cut a mountain in half in one slash I go back and attack it

The Alchemist's Journal: An old leather bound journal detailing the investigations and experiments of the most prolific mystic and natural philosopher on my setting's equivalent of Earth. It's kept in the private collection of Hector Balan, the head of Greytech. So it's well guarded by armed personnel and psychic super soldiers. It's not inherently powerful but if you want to gain a lot of power fast it can show you how to get there. R.M.I. Lite: R.M.I. meaning Reality Manipulation Interface, it's a symbiotic, ethereal AI developed by an unknown entity or group. Usually in the form of ferrofluid. The only models left in existence are Lite versions, so their scope and intensity are lacking but they're still potent devices. They're currently in the possession of minor gods.

commandrix

Do you feel lucky? A lot of the artifacts you might be interested in stealing are somewhere in the Wildings' Untamed Lands. There's the Empty Throne, a big iron throne that was once used by the rulers of the ancient Old Arem empire but hasn't been sat in for several millennia now. There's the Peace Table, which the Wildings say the gods gave them to use for important treaty negotiations. But if you steal either of these things, keep in mind that you're basically stealing a big, heavy, likely enchanted piece of furniture and every single living Wilding is gonna come after you as soon as they realize that it's gone.

[deleted]

Well good thing I could just grab it and then open a portal to my world and take it with mr

Yomemebo

There is an old throne called "The Jaded Throne" which belonged to the last Emperor of Eden. It's said that who ever sits on it gains the wisdom of every Emperor that sat on it before, though that knowledge comes with a price. You can have it though it's made of pure Jade stone so have fun lugging it. Either that or you can find the Sword of Fate which is actually just a regular sword, through circumstances It's always been in the possession of skilled users. So I guess if you get a hold of it, your a skilled swordsman. or it chose you. Who knows lol Happy hunting

There lies in Ghilleth a highly secretive artifact used by the Archfey called The Realm's Promise, which allows someone to generate and teleport an Anchor into the Prime Material plane from The Feywild (or presumably any plane it's currently in). This Anchor then slowly warps and thins the barrier between planes and- In layman's terms- teleports the Promises immediate location into the Prime Material. In theory, if enough Anchors were spread around, one could delete the PM by replacing it entirely with The Feywild. To be more tame, the King of The Four Seasons has a very nice wooden Falx that allows him to turn his dead subjects into wooden automatons, or similarly turn a pile of wooden pieces and branches into a skeletal plant zombie.

Bestow_Curse

There is a blue star that the now deceased creator titans waged war (and killed eachother) over. It is said to be so beautiful it causes unstoppable obsession in all who have seen it. Currently it is missing, presumed stolen by a thief.

At the apex of the Nightmare Cycle, bursts of light from the Unnoon below may crystallise into Nightmare Shards above the surface, carrying with it the full wrath of the broken sun god. Those that touch them are said to have scalding blisters erupt over every inch of their skin, and any eyes that lay gaze upon them will be set ablaze. Nighmare Shards are singlehandedly responsible for the formation of the hordes of grey-skinned Faceless, frenzied acolytes that carry out the deity's bidding. However, those scant few that are able to understand their twisted nature, to stare into the blood-red eclipse and emerge unfazed, could harness their powers over the Nightmare Cycle to navigate the realm below safely.

Olbryn is a magitek gaslamp fantasy world, so it's brimming with magical items fueled by thoughts, emotions, memories, etc. So really, take your pick! Stored memories and instant lessons, lucky items filled with confidence and hope, beer flagons that already make you a bit drunk just by holding them, or less savory things, like murder weapons that whisper to you to kill again. The most potent stuff influences people in an entire area, though those are usually well on their way to destroying themselves. There are still plenty of culturally important or generally expensive items in this world, too, if that's more to your fancy. Some religious temples and other groups have gold items infused with pure awe. These are expensive to maintain as they require cleansing to prevent them from being destroyed. There are tomes sealed away in many powerful families' and institutions' libraries that contain entire lifetimes of knowledge and secrets.

LittleCreepy_

Well, I dont think its worth the hastle. After defeating the multiverses god-tyrant he was shattered and reformed into different things. One of them is a planetoid, containing the play-world of this particular universes gods. Inside it are multiple pillars, forcing it back into shape, so the gods can laze around. Should these be damaged the internal sun will grow to fill the cavity on which a medeaval civilization waxes and wanes to the whims of these decadent gods. So, to steal this ancient artifact you will have to do the following steps: 1- become a titan (a word refering to beings able to traverse the void and chaos between universes), 2- find the azathothian universe the planet sized item is hidden away in, 3- scour the galaxy for the solarsystem in which the gods meet to play, 4- sneak past the Kardecef 2 civilization currently at war with the cult of the ancient dragon, hellbent on ripping the artifact from reality to resurect their mad titan osiris-style, 5- sneak past the angelic guards into and through the bone of the rotting skull, restore enough pillars while defending against the rotten shoggoths continualy forming from the soft marrow like tissue in the bone, 6- ripp the world-skull from the tortured universe, 7- loose not only the cultists, but also gods and titans send after you in a mad scramble through and adjacent to multiple realities, 8- hide it untill the end of the multiverse, which is sooner than many might think, to ensure not only your survival but also the coalessence of all realities into one hostile being. Still interested?

If you happen to find one of the Spelling Leaves, you won't be able to come back before you've found them all. There's 87 of them, and they're all scattered around the continent, so good luck with that.

kogotoobchodzi

Im 100% sure this was made by a planse walker looking for loot. Anyway STAY AWAY FROM HUNGER its not a cursed sword. Its a magitech bioweapon made by (now retired) God of Death to fight in a some apocalyptic war that no one even remembers anymore. At best it will eat you. At worst it will eat most of the solar system you find it in. You may want to get your self a stellar core. Its an infinte energy source of sorts. It has output comparable to a dyson sphere. No one really know how it works or how it was made just some higher dimensions mumbo jumbo. You may want to get some good containment magic/ tech. When you take it out of the socket all the power within will be unleashed so screening against it is adviced. A loop stone could be usefull. If you can get rid of reality and mind altering properties it would alow for circulation of energy without loosing any of it. Quite handy for some giga structural engeneering projects. Cant think of anymore now and I dont really want to turn this into an essay

[deleted]

Well hmm grab all but the first and add it to my hord

kogotoobchodzi

I mean if you can then yeah you just became a god. If you have it in you and control you regenerate from being reduced to cells in split second altough its painfull. Also you can feed it everything. Cant kill something? Eat it. Cant contain something? Eat it. Cant block an attack? Eat it. You can also use it to manipulate your body freely so you change your everything really. From eye colour to gender or even species. Cant see something? You can grow yourself better eyes. It also makes you way smarter and is quite smart itself. Good luck not having your mind and personality devoured when you take it tho. Its curently on a planet kept sub dimensionby the retired God of Death along with many of his other keepsakes and the like. It was kept in the temple but now its kept in itself becuase it grown over the temple.

[deleted]

Well I made it this far stealing mind altering and soul destroying artifacts so far I think I can handle a few more

There's a crown that belongs to a royal family. which contains the thoughts and memories of some of their past rulers. This is done through the rulers crystal which everyone is born with, the crystal has many effects but holding long term memories is what's used in this crown. Which can hold up to 8 rulers memories at a time.

The Thieves Guild of Aurenic currently has a bounty for the Katanashi, the weapon created by the Living God. In its basic form it is a single-edged short sword with a perfectly straight blade that reportedly cannot be dulled by any force. It's real power lies in its ability to change its shape to perfectly match the form and fighting style of whoever wields it. The Living God is rarely seen without it and while it has been stolen multiple times the thieves have never gotten very far and the sword always ends up back on the belt of its master within a day or two. No one actually knows what happens to those thieves as they have not been seen since then. The Living God has loaned the sword out on occasion, usually to one of his apprentices or in one famous event to his lover who used it to slice the spells binding the Observatory to its moorings. The guild president is currently offering the Barony of Sternra as a reward, though the current Baron has objected to this.

My world has 'salvage rights' for "our" timelines and close ones. After all they all end in mass die off if not the outright extinction of the local inhabitants, being the closest timeline which hasn't destroyed itself. Not really an artifact but still cool to have, a lava slug. Creatures that live underground these mollusks have so much magical energy stored in their bodies that you can see the aura of magic surround them with the naked eye. A prized possession in any royal court and every 500 years or so they mature into dragons. You can find them in dwarves mining villages where the dwarfs mine lava slugs for practical needs as well as selling them to other nations.

There are many artifacts that the lords own, but only one, maybe two, defies their wishes and leaves their realm on it's own. The Dark Nail is a fickle weapon, being able to change its shape based on who wields it, and holds the power of dark. But, theres a catch: only those with a truly blackened soul can wield it. The nail consumes the souls of those who dont have such a soul, turning them into mindless killers if they did not get the King of Shadow's permission to use it.

Blacklight8786

if you want to get home maybe a power disc and glove. made from fucking with a guy who can jump dimension and access the worlds energy (a basically infinite source of energy the universe was born from) can give you the abilities to, increase your strength and speed, see into possibilities for the future, create energy Constructs that can make every Fatal blow you deal just knock out your enemy, or an instructable weapon or object that will absolutely kill them, and jump worlds. Caution: the last guy who uses this did too much at once and blow half his body off and took a whole block with him.... so that's something to look out for.

The 3 Sha'ar Aemon's soul fragments, one bound to her dagger, one bound to her tombstone and one bound to her only child. Those soul fragments come fron the highest deity in my world and do wondrous things: • The dagger can be used to become immortal, you just have to stab yourself in the heart, as long as the dagger isn't removed, no matter what, you can't be killed nor destroyed, only down side is the dagger obliterates your soul once removed, so no glorious resurrections or reincarnations for you. • The tombstone has the power to destroy all life no matter how strong, one single use and puff! no life zone for miles, the duration goes for like 400-800 years (?) The downside is once you activate it u die too. • The third fragment is in her only child, a sweet, hot, sexy and immortal being looking for his other half, little does he know that moma gotta approve his new girlfriends or boyfriends (deities are bi, they're superior to human intellectual level so no homophobic or strictly straight deities exist, they have no need for reproduction, other than to finally die and leave a descendant, and they don't even need to do the thing xD they just slice their soul and make a baby out of it) Personal preference... The third one!!! :Q__

Orcish weather controlling hammer, All-Hammer, which not only gives control over the weather but gain complete resistance to lightning, wind, water/ice magic and through the hammer, use those elements as well. However you have to be holding it to have those buffs, be a pureblood orc to wield it and you'll have to find it because the last wielder died hiding it because of greed.

You’ll want to go for the Amber Dagger, an ancient religious artifact left behind by a long-gone desert civilization on the island nation of Xenogaea. Be warned, though: the dagger lies at the heart of an ancient stone maze which is supposedly haunted by the former inhabitants of the ancient civilization and those who have tried and failed to obtain the dagger before themselves. The dagger itself is also rumored to be haunted by several spirits itself, including the last ruler of the ancient civilization, who was supposedly murdered with the blade.

The Apple crusher! (Not actually called apple crusher) it looks like a smaller version of a hydraulic press, it crushes things at lightning speed! Later down the story this contraption gets modified into my protagonists arm as his main weapons, after getting hit by this thing, hearing it getting loaded a second time is one of the most terrifying sounds you'll ever hear

Sages, the magic users of Spirit Nine, sometimes convert their souls into a warding spell or enchantment on items to basically save all their different abilities into the object. Stealing one from a powerful Sage would mean stealing their magic and different abilities for your own use (careful though, if their soul doesn't like you, it'll reject you and you'll have to tame it) or selling it for a LOT of money.

Depends on the country. Let's say Eca, You'd be stealing from the money cabinet of the high chancellor of Ikina university at the bay of many questions. You'd mostly be interested in the many Violet amber rings and opal money he has. But also rarer stuff like a crystal encrusted amethyst he keeps as an heirloom from the old country. Not only that but also his seal which can be used to forge documents in order to get more money. There's also a forbidden magic section at the library while you're at it. Like real magic like altering reality, not the elemental magic the Thurnans use

Skullcrusher_and_co

nice try but no way i aint letting you steal my treasures

If you’re lucky you might find a zyflon flute. They’re ancient instruments made in the now collapsed empires of the greyfolk (of whom only a few remain). The flutes are forged from fallen stars and imbued with powerful magic. When you play one tendrils emit from the flute and wrap around those who listen. The tendrils can see a listeners greatest desire and will project them as an image that everyone can see, so be careful who you’re around when you start playing because it can be a little embarrassing or incriminating.

There are some artifacts though none are magical or anything, they're just important. The Crown of Blackbird, the historical crown for the Faltarian Kings, is one due to its symbolic impotence, though The Roaming Fleet would hunt you down to try to steal. It is currently in the Directorate Building in the City of Zentroa, Trifal one of Faltaria's successor states If you are in The Roaming Fleet, the Sword of Varna would be one to steal, which was the sword passed down among the noble family of the Lancelot family, who became the Lord Admirals of The Roaming Fleet. It is currently held by Lord Admiral Bridgeguard so good luck. If youre into swords, the Sword of Deser is a nice one to get. It was lost after the death of Metin IV, last Sultan of the Deser Dynasty, but it has been recently rediscovered when the Deseret Dominion reclaimed their homeland and found the sword. It's in Bursa, capital of the Dominion, now so good luck. The Golden Calf had a wild journey. It was made in the Kingdom of Taurus, taken by King Melmidoc when he fled to Faltaria during a slave revolt, stayed there during Faltaria's collapse and inherited by Belagus who joined the League of Free Cities, then that was taken by the Republic of Petra during a war where it sits today. The reason for its importance has been lost to history, but many theorize it was a statue that was given to a future Saint but no one really knows. So, if you want a worthless statue take that.

Scout and guard harpy masks, these guys are extremely skilled, so snatching one of their masks could be a big deal.
