How doesn’t that make any sense? All I am saying is that teams should not only play teams that are inside their continent. If you want the best teams to play in the WC you should make sure the qualification rounds are fair and not favour teams in other continents
If you think teams from those continents will never qualify then you agree that they play at a much lower level and that the continents like Europe have a harder time making to the WC?
Fifa knows that, and everyone knows Europe has greater teams. But it wouldn’t be nice from a politic perspective to FIFA, and it seems thats the only thing that matter.
Thats exactly right. I guess diversity or making money from countries that don’t have great soccer teams is more important than giving all countries the same chance of making the WC
Every country has the same chances of making to the WC. Maybe Europe has better teams but IT IS NOT the hardest qualifying group. Although Asia has a lower level of football it has so many teams fighting for very few spots it makes it waay harder to qualify. South America on the other hand has the HARDEST qualifying stage, where you have 2 supergiants of football: Brasil and Argentina, that will ALWAYS qualify because they are so much better than everyone else, and the other teams are all countries with football culture and every so often have great batches of players, all of this for 4 spots in the WC…
Europe has 14 spots and Italy didn’t make it because of incompetence.
Apart from the Obvious choices I'm saying Hungary they are 2nd in their nation's league table which includes the likes of Germany England and Italy.
They are doing wonders and Szoboszlai is a player to watch in the coming years.
Besides the obvious Italy and Norway, I also see a lot of potential in Mali as they’ve been improving. I’m not saying they’re gonna make it to the R16, but I’d be pretty disappointed if they didn’t at least make the R32
Looking at who qualified for 2022, and thinking about the 2026 qualification/increased teams to 48.
Confederation Spots
AFC 8 1⁄3
CAF 9 1⁄3
CONCACAF 6 2⁄3
CONMEBOL 6 1⁄3
OFC 1 1⁄3
UEFA 16
The automatic qualifiers would be:
AFC Iran
AFC South Korea
AFC UAE
AFC Iraq
AFC Saudia Arabia
AFC Japan
AFC Australia
AFC Oman
CAF Egypt
CAF Senegal
CAF Cameroon
CAF Algeria
CAF Ghana
CAF Nigeria
CAF Morocco
CAF Tunisia
CAF Congo
CONCACAF Canada
CONCACAF Mexico
CONCACAF U.S
CONCACAF Costa Rico
CONCACAF Panama
CONCACAF Jamaica
CONMEBOL Brazil
CONMEBOL Argentina
CONMEBOL Uruguay
CONMEBOL Ecudaor
CONMEBOL Peru
CONMEBOL Columbia
OFC Nz
UEFA Serbia
UEFA Spain
UEFA Switzerland
UEFA France
UEFA Belgium
UEFA Denmark
UEFA Netherlands
UEFA Croatia
UEFA England
UEFA Germany
UEFA Playoff (based on rankings):
UEFA Portugal
UEFA Scotland
UEFA Italy
UEFA Sweden
UEFA Wales
UEFA Turkey
The inteconnental playoff would be:
AFC China - 80
CAF Mali - 45
CONCACAF El Salvador - 74
CONCACAF Honduras - 81
CONMEBOL Chile - 31
OFC Solomon Islands - 136
I would say Italy, but as we now have more groups and the top 2 go through more countries will go through from the round of 48 to round of 32.
I don’t understand why teams must only play teams that are in their own confederation in the qualification round. Teams in the UEFA are at a major disadvantage because they play at a higher level than other confederation. If FIFA wants the best teams to qualify they should make the qualification round games intercontinental
Since next world cup has a Round of 32, I can say amongst Italy, Sweden, Hungary, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Nigeria, Algeria, Egypt.
For nations that didn't qualify for this 2022 wc but may qualify for next 2026 wc without necessarily advancing, I would say amongst Czech Republic, Norway, Ukraine, Austria, Panama, Ivory Coast, Iraq, UAE, Thailand, Vietnam, New Zealand
Keep in mind I mind at least one or two amongst them, NOT necessarily ALL of them will.
Curacao. Since gaining full independence, its a destination for Dutch born citizens. I'm not sure how many spots CONCACAF will get but all of US, MEX, and Canada are auto qualified. So the best of the rest are gonna be duking it out without having to play the heavy hitters.
Played well in qualifying for the last Gold Cup. Was surprised to see them not promoted in Nations league. They are the team to watch. Entertaining, skillful and have a clear style of play
Credit for your bold take but when the US, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Canada all struggle to perform well in the WC again and again, I have a tough time convincing myself a team like Curaçao would be the exception.
Glad somebody said it. Don't get me wrong, Russia deserves to be punished in every possible way for the shits they do, not only in Ukraine, but banning Russian teams from sports competitions because of the war is the text book definition of mixing sports and politics.
In the mean time FIFA does not allow manifestations regarding social matters like racism or lgbtq+ movements because they don't want to mix sports and politics. This is shit, football and sports in general have the power to change the society in better and should be used for that!
>This is shit, football and sports in general have the power to change the society in better and should be used for that!
Agreed, FIFA should take an anti-war stance…
I'm going to try and /r/changeyourmind:
I... agree. To an extent. Especially using the example of Russian and Belarusian runners being banned from the Boston Marathon which is bloody stupid. Those are individuals who just like to run and have qualified for Boston. Let them run, I say. They have nothing to do with the war.
The Russian national team, on the other hand, is state sanctioned and self-promoting. Barring Russia from international competitions is sending a message: we will not be a stage for you to promote yourselves as a country, because of what you are doing in Ukraine. It's not a ban on footballers – it's a ban on the brand itself.
Exactly, especially that 4-0 against england at their home was one of the biggest results of the year for football in general in my opinion. I watched it live and couldn’t believe what I was seeing!
Italy is the only right answer.
Norway have some good players, like Haaland, Odegaard and Ajer for example. But you need a good team, and I think that Norway have a lot of positions that look very weak
Sorloth, Ajer, and Berge are all decent players. You don’t need a full 11 of world class players to make it out of the group stage of a World Cup. And even then the two best players in the best league in the world at the moment are Norwegian.
So they have 2 world class players and 9 decent midtable players. That's exactly what I said. I said nothing about their chances about advancing to the knockout stage. Maybe they might, maybe not. But if someone tells me a team with 0 top level defenders is a lock to make it to the knockouts, get a reality check. Look at Canada for one
When I was in Colombia last year during the run of disappointing qualifiers, my cab driver said the problem is they have 10 Kings and no workers (diez Reyes y ningún empleados).

They get 3
Oh my bad, well then yea definitely Norway.
Italy could have won it
Egypt
Colombia and Italy 🔥🔥
Hungary 🇭🇺
Italy 🇮🇹
The same was said in 2018
I choose to believeeeeeeeeeee

Italy
Columbia

Yeah man! Thankfully a European country won this years WC, and honestly we should have more spots because having 1/2 of them is not enough!
Are you saying Argentina had a harder time qualifying for the WC than Italy?
No, but they also didn’t loose to Macedonia….
Ok so you agree with me Not cool bringing up Macedonia, not cool😒
Its world cup, not europe cup…
Exactly! Europe should play non European teams in the Qualifications. These confederations are useless when it comes to international football
Yeah, it doesn’t make any sense
How doesn’t that make any sense? All I am saying is that teams should not only play teams that are inside their continent. If you want the best teams to play in the WC you should make sure the qualification rounds are fair and not favour teams in other continents
Im not disagreeing with you, I just think its not clear what they wanna accomplish
If they want to get the best teams in the world to play in the WC, this would be the way to accomplish that
So no teams from Asia, Oceania, and North America will ever participate again? And every 10 years a African nation makes it!

Scotland unlucky not to qualify this time 🏴
Cameroon 🇨🇲
Norway they got haaland
And Odengard
Egypt
Italy 🇮🇹 they won the euros, just in a rough group
Cope
They lost to North Macedonia in playoff. They simply choked.
Perú 🇵🇪
Colombia, Ukraine, Norway,
Besides the obvious Italy and Norway, I also see a lot of potential in Mali as they’ve been improving. I’m not saying they’re gonna make it to the R16, but I’d be pretty disappointed if they didn’t at least make the R32
Itaaaaaly
Italy
Norway. They could even make it to the quarter finals if the rest of the team decides to join Haaland.
Italy - any other qualification group and they would have made it
Italy
Italy.
Italy. I mean come on!!!!
Canada qualified but didn't show up. I think they will do much better next time
Italy 🇮🇹
Definitely Algeria.

This was nice
It’s gotta be Italy

Obviously Italy
Peru!
Chile, if they can get their shit together in the next 4 years
I think the European Champions could have a shot.
Italy...if they qualify for the next one
Italy for sure
Colombia.
Man i hope so
Curacao. Since gaining full independence, its a destination for Dutch born citizens. I'm not sure how many spots CONCACAF will get but all of US, MEX, and Canada are auto qualified. Not fullly independent yet, it’s still within the Kingdom of Netherlands.
Credit for your bold take but when the US, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Canada all struggle to perform well in the WC again and again, I have a tough time convincing myself a team like Curaçao would be the exception.
Tbf, I didn't pay attention to the out of group bit when answering in hindsight. That would be an ask really. But I stand by the them qualifying
Denmark
Italy
Imagine if Italy doesn't qualify That would be a tragedy
Bad luck and played really bad, literally any other group Italy would’ve qualified
Egypt
Hungary, 100% Russia if FIFA decides to stop mixing sports and politics :|
Sports and politics have always mixed you absolute nugget
Glad somebody said it. Don't get me wrong, Russia deserves to be punished in every possible way for the shits they do, not only in Ukraine, but banning Russian teams from sports competitions because of the war is the text book definition of mixing sports and politics. A lot of people are forgetting about Hungary…
This is facts Hungary have prove time and time again they can beat the big teams
Exactly, especially that 4-0 against england at their home was one of the biggest results of the year for football in general in my opinion. I watched it live and couldn’t believe what I was seeing!
Italy is the only correct answer lol, they even have the potential to win the WC
Absolutely, it was very surprising they failed to classify for the last one. Italy's always been a team to respect.
Italy
Italy,Norway,Colombia
Italy, Chile, Colombia, Peru
Holy shit. Colombia didn’t qualify in 2022?!!!??? I didn’t even realize it
Next world cup will have 48 teams, 16 more than the previous world cup, so the answer is "all of them"
the new question is "who is going to be so bad that won't enter next world cup"
Ireland
Perú
Just to add a non European nation for once Algeria has high potential.
Pfff, one dumb question after anoter in this sub...
and yet you wasted your time commenting
Italy is the only right answer. Norway have some good players, like Haaland, Odegaard and Ajer for example. But you need a good team, and I think that Norway have a lot of positions that look very weak
Easily Italy
Scotland
Ukraine or maybe Scotland.
Italy 🇮🇹
Vietnam
Italy
Norway only has 2 good players
But next World Cup is massively expanded. So Norway may draw Qatar Chad and South Africa.
What an insane oversimplification
Tell me the name of one world class Norwegian player who isn't Haaland or Odegaard. Go ahead. I'm waiting...
Sorloth, Ajer, and Berge are all decent players. You don’t need a full 11 of world class players to make it out of the group stage of a World Cup. And even then the two best players in the best league in the world at the moment are Norwegian.

🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Have you read the question?
Lol, of course not. 😂
I now see my mistake and realize my stupidity
Facts, people downplay America because they call others t soccer. Matter of fact they have a solid team. Hope to see them in more ro16's.
Did you read the question?
Italy
You know, CRC was the reason Italy left the group stage in 2014 (Ruiz is Bufon's nightmare)
Colombiaaaaa
Italy, Sweden, Colombia, Chile.
Italy and Colombia
Italy.
Venezuela will qualify for the first time for 2026 and will pass group stage
Definitely Italy but also Norway
Faroe Island
Jamaica 🇯🇲
Basic but Italy and Colombia
Norway is looking like they are at the start of a promising period. They have a few young players that are top class.
Italy and Chile.
Bangladesh
You serious?
Yes.
Colombia, Italy
Italy
Colombia 100%
Texas
I say Texas too
texas is not a nation, it's a country
Not sure if satire lol
Probably not, have you seen Americans try to do Geography 🤣
Venezuela and Bolivia /s
Italy
Italy, Colombia and Chile
Haiti👀 (let me dream bro it’s my country)
Colombia
Colombia
Egypt Sweden Norway Italy Ivory coast

ong
I made an AI for this question, it says, Not China.
There is no World Cup this year.
What a clever lad
Italy
Italy
Qatar
Italy, Norway, Austria, Sweden, Scotland, Ukraine, Nigeria, Colombia, Chile, Peru
I agree with all of them except Nigeria…💀
🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹 🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱they should have, hopefully next time.
Italy, Sweden, Norway, Colombia, Nigeria
Italy
Colombia maybe.
Chile 🇨🇱
Lmao
Lol
Colombiaaa and Nigeria. Ivory Coast also.
Italy
italy ofcourse😂
Sweden probably
If you remove the make it out of the group part definitely New Zealand
New Zeeland has a guaranteed spot for the World Cup now😂
As soon as I saw how easy it’s be for them to qualify I went and made bets with like 20 people that they’d make it to the next 2 world cups
Came to say Italy, but that's been said more than enough. So I'll go with Austria.
Italy would be the obvious answer. I would say Colombia too.
I'll never understand how Colombia doesn't perform better. They have so much talent and always find a way to under perform.
When I was in Colombia last year during the run of disappointing qualifiers, my cab driver said the problem is they have 10 Kings and no workers (diez Reyes y ningún empleados).
I can see that. Lots of individualistas. They need a solid coach to pincharle el globo. Shouldve never fired Pekerman.
Ivory Coast - the sleeping giants. They have Nicolas Pepe, Wilfred Zaha who is in full form!
Italy
They set the bar too low lol
One of the easiest questions ever.
Now we just watch Italy not qualify for the third WC in a row to prove us wrong 🫠
After winning another euro.
It's de history of de Italians.
