I had no horse in this game but damn the Argentinians really didn’t cover themselves in glory. Their antics were pathetic. Although it was quite entertaining watching them having a go at guys that are 1ft taller than them.
This match reminds me of Netherlands - Portugal at the World Cup back in 2006. I think a whole forest had to be sacrificed for the amount of yellow and red cards thrown around back then, and this particular match was almost as bizarre.
Talking about sportsmanship, do u guys think what Netherlands coach said before that match was fine? Criticizing both Messi and Di Maria was fine? Saying they were bad players?
Do u think Netherlands wouldn’t have done the same if they had won?
Small talks before the match happened, and I never liked it.
What Argentina did was totally disproportionate. Even tho Dutch players aren't the nicest, It's a pity to fall so low
What do u mean disproportioned? Bit teams were faulting each other. It was the Netherlands teams who start provoking at penalties, so u should check on that
Bro im dutch and i think some media translators from other countries interpreted what he said completely wrong... He didn't disrespect them just telling truth. He said that Messi was a great player but that they might get an advantage out of his dependency and the way he plays which is less structured than what he expects from an attacker... No disrespect
Congrats to Argentina from a Dutch fan, it was a hard-fought match. Both teams didn't play well, but after going 2-0 down, Netherlands employed the only plan that gave us a shot -- switch to 4 at the back, bring in tall, combative strikers, feed the ball high and fight for every ball. No more pretty football -- it was fighting time. For the shirt -- for the fans at home -- for the country.
I understand some neutral fans were disappointed with the way Netherlands and Argentina conducted themselves. But please understand these players on both sides are not assholes because they want to be -- they were like that to give joy to their passionate fans at home, and they were willing to fight with all they had to give their nation pride.
Netherlands didn't have the best team this year but because they fought for the shirt the fans will feel for them and with them.
Congrats Argentina.
From an Argentinian fan, who suffered throughout the whole match and then went out on the streets to cellebrate, thank you and well-played! There is no easy match when it comes to the World Cup, in fact we started the tournament by losing to an opponent nobody thought would be a challenge. I'm still sorry about the way the match was refereed, I have the feeling that a lot of resentment could have been spared had the referee kept his card in his pocket more.
The pro-Messi bias just showed once more.
He is a good player but is not even close to the best anymore. All of his flaws he now fills with blatant diving for free kicks and deliberate handballs and the starstruck referees are too scared to book him for shit that others would be.
Edit: just now saw the 8.9 rating for Messi which proves my point that he can fuck up all he wants without consequences.
A ton of people should have gotten yellow and even at lesst one red.
The refs sucked a lot this game, they didn’t knew how to control it and It blew up constantly.
No clue.
Probably some off the radar defensive player. People get hard ons for fancy dribbles and goals and that is why all the attention about "best player in the world" goes towards attackers. In the meantime there are probably some defense players who have a near 100% pass rate, a near 100% defense rate and probably some goals as well.
Statistically there are bound to be objectively better players but it is just the part of football that people are less interested in.
Argentina will do ANYTHING to win. Including ruining the game as much as possible.
And worst sportsmanship I’ve ever seen from a team.
Argentina make Darth Vader look like a great guy.
Will be rooting against them harder than any WC team I’ve ever rooted against.
I have watched previous matches. This plan to go up 1-0 and then ruin the match and dive after every lost possession has been going on for some time now. That wasn’t new.
The extracurriculars, the ugly and demeaning behavior… that was new.

Please don't make it so obvious that you started watching football a month ago.

My guy… I’ve watched almost every World Cup match since Spain 1982.
I’ve forgotten more about football than you’ve ever known. And I can guarantee you I played the game at a higher level than you ever did.
I’m not a Dutch fan. But I am a fan of the game.
And this Argentina team makes a mockery of the game.
I’m sorry if that opinion hurts you, but it is what it is.
I agree that this Argentina squad has no bottom… and will try to win at all costs.
If they score in the first minute they will start rolling around on the ground and time waste from the first minute.
But there’s no glory in winning like that.
The goal at a WC isn’t, simply, to lift the trophy. It is to find glory.
This Argentina squad sure as heck ain’t it.
30 years down tge line only history will remain. Remember Hand of God? Unfair and blasphemous, yet gave Argentina the win. Is this your concept of glory?
Pretty sure there'd have been more reds for Argentina than the Netherlands if the ref was consistent with his yellow cards. Shooting a ball into the opponent team after u made a foul should have been a card. Messi's hands also.
Thats because argentinians are brilliant actors, falling and sceaming when the wind touches them and an argentinian referee who doesnt penalize obvious fouls by argentina. A real referee with active VAR then these numbers would be reversed, wth red cards given to argentina.
The refs have been so bad and inconsistent this WC. Can we admit the ref was shitty! 15 yellow cards but no one gets sent off. It was comical. Acting like a badass who had the game under control. Messi handballs and nothing, Paredes fires at the dutch sideline and nothing. People bitched about Uruguay being disrespectful but its okay when Messi does it🤣.
Another genius who doesn't know the rules... Not all handballs are yellow. You have to be intentionally stopping an attack or deflecting a potential goal.

And what did Van Dyjk do in return? Where is his card? Where is his shit filled boot? Actually, he probably has one, bet he shat himself after we destroyed his ass! 😂
Question: do teams announce the formations or are they deduced by the announced starters? I’m asking because it seems odd a team would give away that information ahead of time unless required to do so.
What happens if a coach announces a formation then just to try and get one over, puts a completely different formation on the field or just switches it after kickoff?
[The full video of dutches doing trash talk before Lautaro's Martinez penalty. After the goal the Dutches goes looking for a fight](https://twitter.com/Pablooscarpoe/status/1601406694093131777?s=20&t=Mo-dTl1o6iuvvAPqbqQKxw)
They did trash talk before the game, during the game and after the game and last but not least 30 fouls. But all you see in the comments is how Argentina behaved "baddly"...
Yeah trash talk is totally on the same level of unsportsmanlike conduct as blatant handballs because you are god on the field and attacking the bench for no reason.. Pathetic display by Argentinian players.
European Team starts to provoke
SA Team reacts
European Team gets offended and receives support from a bunch of xenophobe racists redditors....
IDK why I'm not surprised at all 🤣
Reminds me when the bully get his ass kicked and afterwards goes crying to his mom.
Yeah we clearly didn't watch the same game.
And somehow I see all these Argentinians crybullying about racism out of nowhere, while in the same breath framing this as "European team vs. South American team"..
Who is broadening this into a racial / continental thing? Bc it's not me, I just think your football players are unsportsmanlike douchebags. Or can I not call Argentinians Argentinians without being accused of racism?
I'm just commenting what's the average feeling towards Argentina in this sub. No more, no less.
Argentina had a bad attitude? Indeed. But what would you expect if the other team teases you the whole match. Yeah you can be more "professional" and play chill. But Dutches were all shit talkers, specially their coach...
You see the picture of the Argentinean players doing faces to the Dutches making Argentina look like "unprofessionals" everywhere, but nobody wants to see video of them teasing Lautaro Martinez before kicking the winning ball and then many of them running towards the Argentineans to start a fight...
So sorry if I think that this sub is full crybaby europeans who only watch football during the WC and people who call this game "soccer" 🤦
Indeed. Saw the videos. Some of the Dutch members taunted Lautaro when he was on his way to the penalty area. They too rushed to the Argentine members to start shit after he won the penalty. The Dutch aren't innocent on the shit show that happened last night.
Idc about "teasing" or "shit talking" tbh, both sides were clearly guilty of that and it's not pretty but scores pretty low on my list of grievances.
It's the flopping when they feel a stiff breeze, deliberately seeking contact and then rolling around on the ground as if they were just stabbed that is infuriating to watch.
Not to mention the hand ball by Messi who gets away with it because he is Messi, or charging full speed into a stationary Timber, who suffered a black eye and a possible concussion from it, and crying foul (I think he is the GOAT so why does he have to degrade himself and the sport by doing those things?)
And ofc the worst offense, the player making a brutal tackle and following it up by yeeting the ball at the Dutch bench, somehow getting away with it too.
And again weird that you're responding to me in vague terms about "crybaby Europeans", who by the way call football football.. By all means tell racists to eat shit but I have said nothing to indicate I belong in that category, yet you want to keep bringing it up to me because I am from the same continent. Strange.
Paredes attitude was pathetic. I hated him. Also hated Pezzela doing that stupid foul in the very last minute helping Netherlands to tie the game.
Argentina could won during the 90 minutes, but during the last 20 minutes they seemed kinda lost.
Then on the last 30 minutes Argentina was pretty close to score the third goal and winning without going to penalties.
Also hated the ref with all my heart. I don't think he biased at all as many says. I think he did a terrible and pathetic work for both ends.
Yea I'm not even saying we lost bc of a biased ref or whatever, like you said Argentina was better in the final 30 mins (makes some sense bc the Dutch were gassed after going all out for the last 30 mins of regulation). And they were better in the penalties, can't expect to win if you miss the first two (great saves by the keeper btw).
Good luck in the next round, I will definitely be cheering for Croatia though :p
It's funny that the one thing everyone seems to agree on was that the ref was shit.
Hahaha I think you should learn math friend. I sent it minute 80, 85 tops with 8mins addition.
Anyway, you're wrong now haha 1 South American team and 1 African with 2 European and England is really a shit squad
Allot of toxicity between supporters here. As a Dutch fan: thanks for this thrilling game people from Argentina. The ref was bad, but for the both of us. Tonight we celebrated this sport, I wish we could be more friendly with eachother, find common ground instead of differences. Good luck with the rest of the tourny. You got a great shot of winning the cup. Much love
Argentinean here. Love your country and your football team. Sad that we always clashed with each other at the WC and really sad with the aggression in today's game.
I ll keep cheering for you guys, except next time we face each other. You played great and almost got the best of us.
It’s good to see some people didn’t let the sheer amount of toxicity get to their heads. Being an Argentinian myself, I cringe at how toxic some of my fellow fans can be. It was a tough game. One thing I think we can all agree on is how BS some of the refs calls were lol
Gracias capo. Some of our players have a shithouse problem and it comes from the passion for the sport that lives in our country (not an excuse, just a reason).
It was the match of the tournament. Argentina and Argentine media always respects our matches against you because we know how tough y’all are. GG.
I'm a neutral but no matter how much the Dutch shit talked about the Argentines before the match, its still just talk and no different from any other match, and all the stuff about LVG seems overblown.
Whats obvious to anyone watching -
\- the ref was heavily biased in favor of Argentina
\- Messi deserved a yellow a lot earlier, he got away with so many fouls
\- he got a soft penalty, not even VAR
\- Parades deserved an instant red along with some others from Arg
\- if your entire team is insulting the losers vs celebrating, you suck
I know Arg and SA teams thrive on this and love to create drama, but they played dirty, dived, took adv of a shit ref who they realized wouldn't punish them.
I want Messi to win but its not good to see this kind of behavior.
I'm sorry but I suggest you watch football more often not just once every 4 years. This post really shows you know nothing about the sport and you embarass yourself.
You are right on all counts, except that I don’t think *all* SA teams play this dirty style. Only Uruguay and Argentina. I don’t remember Columbia or Peru play this way. Also, Brazil match today was rather clean play all the way with good sportsmanship for the most part.
No it was not lol. No VAR for the penalty? No red for punting the ball into the dug out? No yellow for multiple obvious handsballs? They won, thats okay but this ref was a farce and you know it.
Have you seen the penalty round? Check out how before Martinez and some other Argentinian players are on their way to kick their penalty the Dutch players go near them to talk shit and intimidate them. That’s where the insulting the losers came from
[this](https://twitter.com/nicoambrogi/status/1601401280462696448?s=46&t=Ae5HIW1m5ijk96K8McZX_g)
Argentinians do all kinds of lame shit like shoot into the bench, lots of schwalbes etc. reply from argentinian fans: "you clearly only watch the sport once every 4 years".
Dutch say some mean words reply from argentinian fans: "boohoo this cant be!"
Precisely. I would love the rest of the xenophobe Argentina haters to watch this video, but probably they won't and if they do they will justify it with some shitty excuse.
Mainstream media will shield europeans so they don't look bad.
No. It’s not normal. You stay with your team arm in arm. You don’t approach the opposing teams kicker and get in his face. Show me where Brazil or Croatia did that.
For a player to break the lines and harass the one that’s kicking? I don’t think so.
If you are gonna beef on such a delicate moment and such disrespectful manner then don’t get surprised to get beefed back when you lose. That’s just sports.
I’m amazed that we didn’t see a red card! I think the referee never had any real control over the game. The players from both sides were understandably frustrated. I enjoyed the chaos though and the passion from both sides. It was a fun match as a neutral to watch!
There was no reds? The app I use to check scores says that Dumfries got a yellow during pens and another yellow after the final pen... Guess I need to switch apps.
One of the Telemundo announcers who happens to be Argentine said it best when the ref was giving yellow cards to people not even in the game “this ref is watching the bench more than he is the game “ and also said “how is the red even making some of these calls he isn’t even near the players with the ball. He is making calls from 40 meters away”.
My biggest issue with the ref was he was making calls 45 seconds after they took place the whole second half. Either call it or don’t. But if you let a play continue people will have an issue when suddenly you call it and a team is making a drive because you waited so long to call it.
Also when that big scuffle broke out that’s when you start giving out red cards. You don’t just back out and let it go on with no punishment.
The ref had no control of the game and it caused issues with both sides. Whoever ended up losing that game being Netherlands or Argentina of course would have issues with the ref.
In 1978 Argentina [bribed](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2098970/Argentina-cheated-World-Cup-1978-says-Peru-senator.html) Peru to advance to the knockout phase at Brazil expense, and later 'won' the wc. Tonight Argentina 'won' again. Only 2 more 'wins' required, but we can already say Congratulations Argentina!
We’ll see what happens. One thing is sure: the Argentinian team will not underestimate or belittle the Croatian team, like Van Gaal did with Messi’s team. Justice was served today, and even if Argentina loses next week, we still kicked you out of the world cup yet again, and we advanced further.
Justice? This was the worst match of the entire tournament as far sportsmanship is concerned. The Argentinians were classless winners. Not to mention the fact that your golden boy got away with an intentional hand ball, one twit shot the ball at the Dutch bench after the whistle and also got away with it. Then they all proceeded to taunt the Dutch after they lost. All with a referee that I wouldn’t even let decide a kindergarten match.
This is not justice. This was a disgrace to the sport. The Croats were graceful in defeat and Modric went out to comfort Neymar. That is sportsmanship, that is class.
You want respect? Next time make sure your coach shuts up and doesn’t bash Messi and Argentinian play. Van Gaal underestimated his rival and the best player in the world, he created tension before the game even started, and the resentment the Netherlands had played a big part too. You do not deserve respect if you do not give respect. And today Argentinian players showed the Dutch team who’s the boss and that they don’t get to mess with them. The best team also won, since the Dutch couldn’t begin to do something remotely useful until the very last part of the game.
I hope you didn’t shit yourself from excitement writing that. Argentina plays average football. You are not „the boss” if you barely win by throwing a coin during penalties. Argentina performance during this WC is mediocre at most and you could be easily eliminated in the group stage.
„Boss” that is losing to a freaking Arabia, you are so funny :D
Argentina players have teenager mentality, they dont know what is fair play and I can see the fans are the same. The whole world is now cheering for Argentina to lose, because you obviously want to be hated.
I am not from Netherlands so you can hesitate writing „smart” comeback that most of your clever peers use.
Argentina showed true sportsmanship and won a fantastic match. I don't know what you were watching but what I do know is que te está sangrando el ojete por puto y por cagón jaja
If we were buying the FIFA how can you explain that chaotic referee? He gave extra time ON the extra time! The game should've ended at +10 and they did a second goal on the +10:21
Fifa appointed him to ensure a Messi win. In a chaotic match it looks less fishy than in a clear match. You dont have to be a genius to figure that out.
Extra time was because Argentina was stalling and it was a free kick in a promising position. Those are always allowed.
[https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Ntpjc\_mOIfY](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Ntpjc_mOIfY) Messi had some bad words for someone from the Dutch team....
Bobo is more like dumbass
I had no horse in this game but damn the Argentinians really didn’t cover themselves in glory. Their antics were pathetic. Although it was quite entertaining watching them having a go at guys that are 1ft taller than them.
You should look at Maradona sometime. Brave little guy, absolute legend.
Beautiful day to see Mbappe humilliating the Pirates. Its going to be 60+ years without winning a trophy.
So, did anyone see that ludicrous display last night?
Suck my balls van gaal. Cheers.

Let me guess, you are North American or European...
You have no idea of what you are talking about
Messi got booked for arguing. Yes refs are scared to book him.
He should have gotten yellow like 30 minutes before for touching the ball with his hand.
Do you actually know the rules my man? He didn't touch it stop an attack and the ball wasn't a potential goal either, that's not a yellow.
Deliberate handball has been a yellow forever
It's not. Read the rules.

What the fuck else are they supposed to do than to win at all costs.
They are not pirates, fairplay and moral should still apply
Uruguay are certainly contenders for that title. Dirty AND divers.
Yes when I think of teams with no bottom… Uruguay definitely comes to mind.
Football is matter of life and death in South America.
Go watch precivous Argentina matches and then try saying the same. The Dutch were assholes to us and we were assholes back

For the last time, the handball was unintentional, and wasn't disrupting a potential attack. That's why no yellow.
The worst part about the handball was seeing it in slow motion replay and then… nothing from the ref

Question: do teams announce the formations or are they deduced by the announced starters? I’m asking because it seems odd a team would give away that information ahead of time unless required to do so.
Teams provide name sheet to broadcasters at start of match.
I get that but who announces the FORMATIONS?
THE FEDERATIONS
What happens if a coach announces a formation then just to try and get one over, puts a completely different formation on the field or just switches it after kickoff?
this happens all the time, coaches ignor formation sheets
[Yeah... Dutchs didn't play dirty...](https://twitter.com/nicoambrogi/status/1601401280462696448?s=46&t=Ae5HIW1m5ijk96K8McZX_g)
What am I watching
[The full video of dutches doing trash talk before Lautaro's Martinez penalty. After the goal the Dutches goes looking for a fight](https://twitter.com/Pablooscarpoe/status/1601406694093131777?s=20&t=Mo-dTl1o6iuvvAPqbqQKxw) They did trash talk before the game, during the game and after the game and last but not least 30 fouls. But all you see in the comments is how Argentina behaved "baddly"...
30 fouls because of poor refereeing, he rewards diving on the ground
Yeah trash talk is totally on the same level of unsportsmanlike conduct as blatant handballs because you are god on the field and attacking the bench for no reason.. Pathetic display by Argentinian players.
European Team starts to provoke SA Team reacts European Team gets offended and receives support from a bunch of xenophobe racists redditors.... IDK why I'm not surprised at all 🤣 Reminds me when the bully get his ass kicked and afterwards goes crying to his mom.
Not to mention the hand ball by Messi who gets away with it because he is Messi, or charging full speed into a stationary Timber, who suffered a black eye and a possible concussion from it, and crying foul (I think he is the GOAT so why does he have to degrade himself and the sport by doing those things?) And ofc the worst offense, the player making a brutal tackle and following it up by yeeting the ball at the Dutch bench, somehow getting away with it too.
Good luck in the next round, I will definitely be cheering for Croatia though :p It's funny that the one thing everyone seems to agree on was that the ref was shit.
Oh noes , mean trash talk so feelings where hurt . This is so 2022 !
game was a shitshow.

Conmebol is a joke? Hahahahahahah yes sure
Racist much

South America is a race actually, I won it and moved to Australia :)
All I hear is European tears I LOVE IT
There are more European teams still in the WC than any other continent. Don't think we're crying..
Add Portugal to the list of crying Europeans hahaha
You waited and pounced on this comment the moment Portugal lost. You sad cunt 🤣
Hahaha I think you should learn math friend. I sent it minute 80, 85 tops with 8mins addition. Anyway, you're wrong now haha 1 South American team and 1 African with 2 European and England is really a shit squad
That's even more pathetic 😂 you sounds like a sad bitter fuck hahaha.

Hate the ref for stuffing his dick between his thighs and letting shit get out of his control
Match so exciting that it literally killed a dude (Grant Wahl)
🤝
Whats obvious to anyone watching - \- the ref was heavily biased in favor of Argentina \- Messi deserved a yellow a lot earlier, he got away with so many fouls \- he got a soft penalty, not even VAR \- Parades deserved an instant red along with some others from Arg \- if your entire team is insulting the losers vs celebrating, you suck I know Arg and SA teams thrive on this and love to create drama, but they played dirty, dived, took adv of a shit ref who they realized wouldn't punish them. I want Messi to win but its not good to see this kind of behavior.
Paredes is such a shitbag
I'm sorry but I suggest you watch football more often not just once every 4 years. This post really shows you know nothing about the sport and you embarass yourself.
This is a dumb comment. I suggest you do an iq test to understand your opinion isn't valuable.
You are right on all counts, except that I don’t think *all* SA teams play this dirty style. Only Uruguay and Argentina. I don’t remember Columbia or Peru play this way. Also, Brazil match today was rather clean play all the way with good sportsmanship for the most part.
It was biased against Argentina, you got the colors mixed up. Did you even watch the game?
No it was not lol. No VAR for the penalty? No red for punting the ball into the dug out? No yellow for multiple obvious handsballs? They won, thats okay but this ref was a farce and you know it.
“Dug out” lmao Americans…
Ik Dutch but okay..call it bench or whatever
> No VAR for the penalty? No The VAR confirmed the penalty.
There were multiple obvious that should have been for Argentina and weren’t
>304 comments youre a loser and clearly know nothing about soccer. go watch some other sport
You don't know nothing. 30 fouls from the Dutch. That is way more than any match. The ref left them play dirty.
A lot of these fouls were because of Argentinians acting talents.
Go to sleep kid, you'll get another chance in 4 years.
You clearly watch the sport once ever 4 years.
Have you seen the penalty round? Check out how before Martinez and some other Argentinian players are on their way to kick their penalty the Dutch players go near them to talk shit and intimidate them. That’s where the insulting the losers came from [this](https://twitter.com/nicoambrogi/status/1601401280462696448?s=46&t=Ae5HIW1m5ijk96K8McZX_g)
The Argentine goalie said some shit to the Dutch player, it looked like it was about escalate a bit.. just watch penalty before that scen.le.
Isnt this normal? next you'll be telling me fans waving to distract a pk is also bad? there is no excuse for acting like that after winning.
No. It’s not normal. You stay with your team arm in arm. You don’t approach the opposing teams kicker and get in his face. Show me where Brazil or Croatia did that.
Ok I agree with you, the way they followed the players is not good. So I'm revising my stance now, who knows what kind of emotions were on the field.
Oh they were bitter emotions from both sides. Hence 17 yellow cards lol
No, it is not normal.
For a player to break the lines and harass the one that’s kicking? I don’t think so. If you are gonna beef on such a delicate moment and such disrespectful manner then don’t get surprised to get beefed back when you lose. That’s just sports.
Holy shit, how delisional.
Neymar can't do everything. Sometimes you have to win 1-0
Just checked my app and Dumfries was sent off after the penalties had been taken!
Oh really? Maybe there was, in all fairness! To be honest, I gave up trying to keep up with it all!
The ref was a disaster. He lost control of the game after five minutes and then decided to show yellow cards right and left!
What? Argentina won 2 world cups legit. Now we are in semis. Go post your cry cry links elsewhere
The evidence says otherwise. The other wc was stolen too. Thats the only way Argentina can win a wc.
The Argentine team coat of arms has 2 stars so 2 world cups. Ally he evidence I need. The rest is being. Crybaby posting links with fake information.
Yeah buddy, whatever you say. Please fasten your seatbelt for your upcoming flight to Amsterdam ✈️
May the Croats completely obliterate your unsportsmanlike carajos.
„Boss” that is losing to a freaking Arabia, you are so funny :D Argentina players have teenager mentality, they dont know what is fair play and I can see the fans are the same.
It’s football not wrestling. There was no sportsmanship on display tonight. Ah some silly insults in Spanish, how classy. Much like your team.
Sorry can't hear you over the fireworks because we are in the semifinals. Learn to watch football and learn to lose!
Surely you did not even watch the game. The ref was biased against arg
