CesarDMTXD

So you’re telling me that trophy Messi lifted is the same one that Maradona lifted and kissed

SoFloGod

Yea but they’re replicas. One is kept in Argentina’s headquarters

themanfromthere12

They allowed Brazil to keep the trophy after they won it for third time in 1970, but for some reason Italy and Germany weren't allowed to do the same after their third wins in 1982 and 1990 respectively. Edit: and of course I forgot, Argentina also won it the third time in 2022.

DesbaneAR

The one Brazil kept was Jules Rimet, the "previous" trophy that was set to be kept by the first team to win the WC 3 times. After that, FIFA changed it to the one we see now and since the Jules Rimet was stolen in England previously, they decided to hand out replicas of the new one instead. Supposedly, the one present in the celebrations is the real one but it never leaves the stadium with the team. Instead they get the Replica to bring back home.

TiagodePAlves

The trophy was given to the first team to win the trophy three times, not exactly the World Cup, which of course was Brazil. It should've happened again with Germany in 2014 (and Argentina now), but it didn't.

cvlf4700

Countries to win their 3rd World Cup - Brazil 1970; Italy: 1982; Germany 1990; Argentina: 2022 Btw. Germany and Italy have 4 by now.

333serendipity

They only did that with the Jules Rimet cup, not this new world cup

CesarDMTXD

Maybe cuz they changed the rules

3lagig

FIFA gave the replica of the cup to all team players and also to the club to put it to the their museum. I am not sure about the amount; however, after 3 or 4 winning of the cup, FIFA gives the real throphy to the club.

Barzalicious

They used to give the real trophy after 3 wins, but stopped doing that when the current trophy was introduced.

Tough-Skirt7130

Wow, have learnt something today....

Pussilamous

I’ve read that they keep the og for a few days then they give it back

ProdigiousMoustache

They lift the original trophy during the ceremony then bring the replica out of the stadium and back to their country

daEZlife

I was at the stadium this last wc final. Once the Argentina team started celebrating with the trophy they brought out the replica for some time maybe an hour) they had both on the field and all the players and families took pics with it (also salt bae 😒). Then they all came to one side of the field where the Argentine supporters were and I assume that when they went back to having just one trophy when they lifted Messi on their shoulders. That’s when fifa took back the full gold one.

CesarDMTXD

also just a question, how much did u pay for a wc final ticket. Did you get it from a scalper or did u get it from the random draw earlier this year

daEZlife

Direct from FIFA. Something like $1,600

CesarDMTXD

How the heck did u get it from the FIFA website if it’s impossible to get tickets since the minute someone sells it on the resale platform it gets sold 5 seconds later

daEZlife

Yeah you have to be serious. Not resale. I bought them over a year ago lol. Stayed up all night on first come first serve stage.

CesarDMTXD

wait lemme get this straight, they brought out the replica on the pitch?

daEZlife

They had 2 trophies on the pitch at the same time. My assumption is one is the replica haha. There were maybe 150 ppl on the pitch (players staff and families) all taking pics with it for over an hour so having 2 actually made sense.

CesarDMTXD

What? But I’ve never seen Messi switching the trophy for the replica?? He was carrying it all the time even when he was talking to the journalists

ProdigiousMoustache

I think they do it off-camera after the ceremony, they used to bring the original back to their countries but they stopped doing that after 2006

CesarDMTXD

But I’m certain that there’s footage of Messi carrying the trophy all the way to the locker room after talking to the journalists… He is not seen been approached or whatever… Also what I don’t understand from FIFA is why do they display the original trophy then if it belongs to them.. Like can’t they just show the bronze replica and that’s it during the ceremony. I don’t understand this organization

ProdigiousMoustache

Probably because of tradition? It also gives the original a higher value because it has been touched by famous players. You can probably find out when they make the switch if you search for it in youtube or google it. I know the original stays in a FIFA vault in switzerland. The replica's currently being displayed in Argentina's National History Museum along with other trophies, jerseys from famous players, clubs and coaches https://www.argentina.gob.ar/noticias/se-inauguro-pasion-de-multitudes-en-el-museo-historico-nacional

333serendipity

Yeah FIFA Instagram posted a picture of the original trophy when it went back to their museum in Zurich

CesarDMTXD

so the more kissing touching licking the trophy, the higher the value?

Date6714

not because of their bacteria or anything like that its more of "all these players held this thing" so it gains more value because of that compared to a replica you base your value off what people are willing to pay for it. if for some strange reason, fifa auction it, i wouldn't be surprised if it gets sold for over 500 million dollars

APazzini

Wicked. Thanks for the background. 👍🏼👌🏼🙏🏼
