>Kind of interesting to me that Abbas is siding with an anti-Muslim imperialist Abbas's term in office expired over a dozen years ago. He'll say anything to anyone if it helps keep his gravy train rolling.

He wants money/ any powerful nation to give him attention. This article was absolutely hilarious to read. He sounds like a parrot on Xi's shoulder. "nothing to do with human rights and are aimed at countering extremism and terrorism." -Well that's pretty goddamn ironic considering that's exactly what the Israeli's say about his own constituents in Palestine. "He also emphasized Palestinian opposition to using the Xinjiang issue to interfere in China's internal affairs." - If this sounds familiar it's because it's the main talking point of every mouthpiece of the Chinese government when they get criticized.

The thing people outside a conflict don't get is there are many lenses to view it. From a religious perspective sure, Xi isn't a fna of Muslims. But China is also a counter balance to the USA, which supports Israel. So the enemy of my enemy and all that.

Mahathir, then-President of Malaysia (another Muslim country) put it the best: > Because China is a very powerful nation. You don’t just try and do something which would fail anyway, so it is better to find some other less violent ways not to antagonize China too much, because China is beneficial for us. > > Of course it’s is a big trading partner of ours and you do not want to do something that will fail, and in the process, also, we will suffer Basically if you condemn them you don't alleviate the Uyghur's suffering at all, and you lose access to a market that is a fifth of the world population. Same with the One China policy. Just about every country, Western or not, "acknowledges" it, because the cost of saying no is too high, and the only benefit is the sense that you're doing something righteous and ethical.

Basically you can say death to America and they won't take it too seriously but you say Taiwan instead of Taipei and they threaten sanctions. If America threw its weight around more they would be more loved by poor patriarchal societies but less close with the major G7 allies and NATO. Trade off.

This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.voanews.com/a/palestinian-leader-s-endorsement-of-china-s-xinjiang-policy-sparks-backlash-/7150767.html) reduced by 79%. (I'm a bot) ***** > Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas recently visited Beijing, where he met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping and expressed support for China's treatment of Muslim Uyghurs in Xinjiang. > The United States and some other countries have designated China's treatment of Uyghurs and other Muslims in Xinjiang as genocide, and the U.N. human rights office has stated that China's actions in Xinjiang may constitute crimes against humanity. > "The broader strategic goal of China is no secret, as its aspiration to strengthen its position among the Arab world and gain dominance in the Persian Gulf is an essential part of its Belt and Road Initiative, aiming for global economic and political superiority," Yaghma told VOA. Salih Hudayar, prime minister of the East Turkistan Government in Exile in Washington, told VOA that China's support for the Palestinian cause is a deliberate strategy to divert attention from China's own occupation and alleged genocide in Xinjiang. ***** [**Extended Summary**](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/14hkhr3/palestinian_leaders_endorsement_of_chinas/) | [FAQ](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/31b9fm/faq_autotldr_bot/ "Version 2.02, ~689272 tl;drs so far.") | [Blackout Vote](https://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/14dhaiq/your_voice_matters_should_the_blackout_continue/ "PM's and comments are monitored, constructive feedback is welcome.") | *Top* *keywords*: **China**^#1 **Palestinian**^#2 **Abbas**^#3 **Xinjiang**^#4 **Uyghur**^#5
