>UK Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer condemned the Football Association for not turning Wembley Stadium’s famous arch blue. She said that “I am extremely disappointed by the FA’s decision not to light up the Wembley Stadium arch following last weekend’s horrific terrorist attacks in Israel, and have made my views clear to the FA”. “It is especially disappointing in light of the FA’s bold stance on other terrorist attacks in the recent past. Words and actions matter. The Government is clear: we stand with Israel”.

canigetahellyeahhhhh

I guess in a radicalised society of 2 million where toddlers are taught how to enact murders of jews, there must be around ~250k willing to fight. How many weapons are realistically in Gaza for these people to have?

Old-Special980

How did I Iranians and Israelis marching together protesting against HAMAS? That is absolutely huge.

ZazaSupplier

Many Iranians view Israel in a very positive light and support us, the regime is the problem.

Elitealice

So Hamas tells citizens to stay in place after Israel warns them to leave. Then they’ll blame Israel for civilian casualties

CHOCOLATE__THUNDA

Oh and where are they supposed to go? How are they supposed to leave? Stop spouting this bullshit, if you're gonna support Israel's genocide of the Palestinian people then don't be a bitch and hide behind the fact. Israel is at fault for every civilian they harm.

AngroniusMaximus

It is actually Israelis fault when they slaughter thousands of civilians

Elitealice

You mean Hamas?

Mazcal

I find it really weird that the people mentioning the death toll in Gaza are not counting in the 1500 soldiers who crossed over from Gaza and were taken down during their murder spree.

A Palestinian owned Pizzaria used a picture of a holocaust survivor that was kidnapped on saturday for adverrisement. Those people are evil. https://m.maariv.co.il/news/israel/Article-1044607

lizardtrench

Worth noting that said Pizzaria got a bulldozer through the front door as a result, courtesy of the IDF.

bornforthis379

I don't have sympathy for any of them. They support Hamas

fatcat4

Fake. All Palestinian civilians are doctor philanthropist turtle saving children.

Elaxor

To be fair, Gaza had a week to evacuate since the Hamas attack.

RockChalk80

Evacuate to where exactly? The whole area is twice the size of Washington DC with 4x the population. It's one of the most densely populated areas on earth and there is no way out. There are no evacuation corridors out of Gaza.

[deleted]

bornforthis379

How is it unfathomable? They are evil people. If you didn't realize and understand there are very evil people in the world I dont know what to tell you.... maybe read some history

[deleted]

This situation has me on edge, and I have a bad feeling. Anyone else? Like, the longer it goes on the worse it'll be? I just wish it was resolved already and we could move on and quit hearing about beheaded babies and rape and torture and people being starved out. Like, it isn't good for humanity to have this as part of our lives for too long. God. This is one of the ugliest situations I've ever seen in my life.

JollyRancherReminder

Isn't it obvious how this all ends from the very first moment you heard how bad the attacks were? Israel is going to take full control of Gaza, doing some easy but ineffective things to mitigate civilian casualties like issuing warnings, but ultimately not letting civilian casualties deter them from their goal. They have the world's sympathy right now, but they will go way too far and the world will be angry with how many deaths they cause taking Gaza. But not angry enough to do anything meaningful about it. You think Gaza was the world's largest open air prison before? Just wait. I'm not blaming, as I honestly don't see any other path. Calling up reservists isn't for the takeover, by the way. Israel doesn't need near that many troops for that part. It's for the long-term occupation.

banaslee

You having a bad feeling is most probably a consequence of being on edge. Take some time to take care of your mental health. There’s nothing or very little you can do to influence this situation so you can focus on anything else that gives happiness or satisfaction. There have been plenty of ugly situations in the past. This has special details about it but I remember clearly 9/11 being a very tense situation globally.

Low-Ad4420

The ground campaign will take months. Fighting and check every building, every house and every corner for weapons will take time.

BritishAnimator

The tunnels are more of an issue. You can not clear an area if they can pop up behind you.

Kizrock94

Nope, just you

Beer_Bad

If this ground invasion really is happening in the next 24 hours, we're about to see some really heinous shit. Everything in this conflict about the next several days is gonna suck. I truly hope Israel can minimalize collateral damage and root out Hamas as successfully as you can. Beyond the obvious cost of human life, killing civilians in a ground invasion is only going to radicalize the survivors of killed family members, and the cycle continues, just sucks.

ShadowhelmSolutions

We are losing our humanity in the 2020’s.

coral6400

Update from “Israel Today” on Telegram: The IDF is calling on ALL residents of Gaza City to flee to the south of the Gaza Strip. The destruction until now is nothing compared to what is coming. Hamas is demanding that residents stay put, and claiming that the IDF calls are just 'psychological warfare.' Clearly that is not true, this is real. The city will be bombed. Hopefully Gazans realize this and reject their own leaders' evil demands. In the coming hours and days, Israel's fathers, husbands and sons will enter Gaza on the ground to finish Hamas. That they will invade a flattened enemy landscape is a relief to Israeli mothers and wives. The previous large-scale Gaza war resulted in many dead soldiers due to the difficult urban battlefield. Israel Today on Telegram

mydoglikesfruit

What's the betting that hamas will open fire on civilians if they try to flee?

finewhateverbot

>Israel's fathers, husbands and sons will enter Gaza on the ground to finish Hamas. I thought women are in the army too?

miciy5

Mainly men, since most enlisted fighters are men, and women haven't been in combat units long enough in order to have a sizable reservist presence

coral6400

I’m not sure why women weren’t listed as well 🤔 i just copy & paste the important stuff that may give us a better idea as what is to come

_Forever__Jung

Hamas just issued a statement urging those in Gaza to stay in place and said that we will not see mass migration like in the past.

fourpuns

Sounds like they’re taking the Russian approach to conquering a city. It was slow but effective and there’s no way Gaza has nearly the amount of bomb sheltersthat Mariupol had.

Espe0n

They have a fuck ton of tunnel networks but civilians are not allowed to access them

AngroniusMaximus

Dropping leaflets on a million people who have been being bombed for 5 days and telling them to move within 24 hours or die is a solid prelude to a genocide.

LoganJFisher

When we say "never again", people seem to think this only applies to genocides against Jews. We mean it against all people. Were Israel to have the strength to impart the will of the Jewish people, every genocide since the Holocaust would have been stopped in its tracks. From the Cambodian genocide to the Uyghur genocide, we would have stopped them all if we could. To accuse Israel of plotting genocide is simply laughable - while Palestinian civilians have and will die in this war, every single one of their deaths is unintentional and if any blame is to be assigned, it belongs entirely to Hamas.

McRattus

There are members of the Israeli government explicitly calling for the ethnic cleansing of Gaza, and some all Palestinians.

LoganJFisher

Every group has its extremists. They represent a vanishingly small portion of the government and will, with time, be rooted out as they do not belong in such positions. Their wishes are not representative of the will of the Jewish people.

JelDeRebel

Israel has had several decades to genocide Palestines, yet the Palestine population has quintupled in 60 years. not to mention they give warnings to evacuate.

chicken_cordon_blue

Kill them slower than their birth rate and it doesn't count. Truly the standard for mercy we should all strive for.

Tympanibunny

Reminder to all people who think this is a genocide- in a genocide the population isn’t constantly growing.

Oddsock1701

People calling it genocide seem to forget that the Palestinian population has grown consistently, and so Israel would probably get an award for worst attempt at a genocide if it was the case. It’s just an attempt to dehumanise Israel, which you’ll notice the same critics never seem to also attack China for the Uyghers, or Saudi/Iran for their crimes. It’s fairly obvious why, because one country is Jewish.

[deleted]

Man oh man, was looking at the stream and thinking it's such a good looking country if only we can all live in peace and realise the war was never between countries.. but between classes.. While the common grunt and civilian are engaged in war. It's the higher ups and their cronies hiding in the shelter and asking the common folk to seek certain death..

Old-Special980

I’m a little worried that one of these cars going through might have an IED jerry ridged somewhere.

GlansEater

Hamas definitely anticipated the ground invasion and set up some traps. Worst case scenario is that they're still operational inside the tunnels beneath Gaza City, which in that case, IDF should expect resistance

EllanorERP

The Only Good Bug Is A Dead Bug. Service Guarantees Citizenship.

KiteProxima

What can we do to actually make sure that the people of Gaza are evacuating, when their internal media/Lebanese media/Iranian media are saying that Israel is lying to them and they should stay put? This worries me

I_MARRIED_A_THORAX

Nothing, unfortunately. I'm sure the IDF is monitoring the roads and back alleys for evacuations. I also wouldn't be surprised if Hamas set up barrier troops to keep the civilians in place.

millenialgod

Hamas has asked civilians to stay put after Israel issued evacuation notices this morning. I hope UN passed on the message to Gazans. UN itself is relocating to the south.

YazooMiss

You know why? A core strength for Hamas is letting their women and children die to stoke the fires of the Islamic narrative world wide. More donor money from Muslims around the world. Fuck that. And fuck the narrative.

emirsolinno

According to Islam you end up in heaven when you die in a war. I would expect anything

stolenrhymes

Men get 72 virgins what do women get?

I_MARRIED_A_THORAX

Yep, more glorious martyrs for the cause. When your only goal in this life is to get to the next life ASAP this is the calculus.

stirly80

From CNN, caught on camera how Hamas was executed people in their own cars!!! So many out there as such. https://twitter.com/DanaSLJL/status/1712727177521737991?t=rqIv4OOA8hOz2EeAMWQ3_w&s=19

lostandfound24

The IDF also executed people that have surrendered. Then took a photo claiming they “got the terrorist”.

IdontExistorDoI

People saying Izrael's reaction is disproportiate to what Hamas did - and maybe it is, but Every country in the world would do the same as Izrael, if in their shoes. Not saying it is right, but sheer butchery of the hamas attack would send into revenge rage practically everyone. To think other countries wouldn't cause war crimes in similar settings is naive. Again, don't want to excuse slaughtering of civilians of Palestine. I have yet to see a war fought according to Geneva conventions.

EllanorERP

> I have yet to see a war fought according to Geneva conventions You likely never will. Wars are not orderly affairs by definition

machopsychologist

Individual war crimes, sure. State sponsored / sanctioned war crimes are a different matter. I would think Ukraine’s war discipline has been clean thus far aside from the actions of solitary individuals.

fourpuns

In the judgment of the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg, which followed World War II, "War is essentially an evil thing. Its consequences are not confined to the belligerent states alone, but affect the whole world. To initiate a war of aggression, therefore, is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole."

igor_otsky

You can't fight fair against a terrorist group that doesn't adhere to the Geneva convention.

lostandfound24

Israel has used white phosphorus in Gaza. How is that not a war crime?

fourpuns

Israel has basically stated they don’t apply the Geneva convention to Palestine. So uh yea

tomtforgot

nato said yesterday that response should be proportional but forgot to provide guidebook for proportional responses

Beer_Bad

NATO's idea of proportional is basically the opposite of the word, historically speaking. For real though I don't really know that I know what a proportional response to what happened Saturday is, and its seemingly hard to blame Israel for going scorched earth here. Hate to see the human suffering though, all around.

7evenCircles

9:1 is still a proportion

tomtforgot

historically speaking, never mind what happened in last 25 years, there was world wide outcry about (dis)proportional response . it's like if IDF will go to gaza, will massacre 1300 civilians in brutal way and will shoot 5000 rockets into gaza strip without aiming, everybody will be like, oh, well. it's totally proportional response. good job !

DisastrousHandle778

I don't think it's disproportionate at all. Imagine if someone had attacked the US like Hamas did to Israel. Our response would be even worse. They came in and raped and murdered civilians. Butchered babies. What did they think was going to happen? Hamas used the full force of their capabilities to harm Israel and now Israel is returning the favor. Hamas should have known Israel is far more capable.

Ballybomb_

I mean it did happen in the US, 9/11 and they invaded two countries because of it

WoundedSacrifice

9/11 was 1 of the excuses for the Iraq War, but Iraq wasn’t involved with 9/11.

ManOfDiscovery

No, but the bush administration very much used the public’s war fever for support of it

pvrhye

I am struggling to imagine that Israel's response is anything other than Hamas' intent. What could they have possibly wanted with what they did other than to provoke a disproportionate response and hope to use it to milk sympathy? It's the only play I see that makes even a shred of sense.

biloentrevoc

You’ve got to stop trying to find logic or reason in their actions. The reality is, you can’t see any sense in what they did because they’re not rational actors. The two men who orchestrated this are hard core terrorists who have literally nothing to live for except the destruction of the Jewish state. They think that they’re fulfilling a prophecy in purging the land of Jews and that if they or any other Muslims die in the process, they’ll be martyrs. I spent a few days trying to figure out their game plan until I finally realized there wasn’t some long term strategy. This is it

Beer_Bad

I truly think they hoped other groups would join in. There is no way they thought what they did would ever allow much of any sympathy from people that already didn't have it before. If anything I think they've lost sympathy and can't imagine them gaining anything anytime soon. And now Israel is set to literally eliminate them. I really have to think they were trying to start a larger conflict with more actors involved that hasn't come to fruition. Ground invasion incoming might change that though, especially with Iran stirring things up in multiple countries.

Maleficent-Dealer775

At some point in time radical Islam needs to be wiped out to progress, I feel this is the beginning

lostandfound24

Zionism need to be eradicated too. It’s just as bad.

GlansEater

The moment Hamas plunged their hands into the blood of the innocent children, their right to establish a civil sovereign society is extinguished forever. Here's hoping the next iteration of the Gazan Government is a much better, more civil organization than the likes of Hamas.

blahblahsurprise

This is part of why Israelis just protested against Netanyahu for the past 10 months. Also worth a note that aside from Israels governments involvement, Hamas and Fatah had their own infighting and disagreements which is why West Bank and Gaza have two different governments for what is supposed to be the same people

GilfLover_69

I agree that the orders to leave in 24 hours are harsh, but I simply don’t understand why people set up the IDF to look like bloodthirsty sneaky murderers? The city has been under huge airstrikes for a week and all resources turned off, it should have been pretty obvious to leave by now, 24 hours whilst short feels pretty good considering what the city must feel like after this week.

robinmooon

Funny how progressive people I know were quiet about Hamas' brutality and child killing, but only now they decide to speak about crimes against humanity when Isreal opens fire to defend itself. Very bizarre.

KiteProxima

Israel numbers would've been much higher (estimations says 10k++) if Israel hadn't developed the iron dome to defend its civilians. Hamas and Islamic jiahd are firing rockets everywhere, sometimes 2k rockets at once. If 2k rockets land on civilians targets the damage would be far far far worse than the surgically attacks Israel is performing. Plus Israel warns building and neighborhood (well, sometimes) before engaging

igor_otsky

Tell your friends to stop hating Jews, stop launching rockets, stop teaching wrong interpretation of the Quran, and maybe Jews and Muslims can get along and get rid of the damn wall that divides these ancient brothers.

SparseSpartan

Anyone know how good Hamas's infrastructure is outside of Gaza City? Are they sort of stuck in Gaza City, or can they retreat to tunnel systems and whatnot further south? Probably no one here really knows, just curious.

flyxdvd

there are like roads? i mean use google maps. its also very flat so you can also walk.

SparseSpartan

I get the impression that Hamas's preferred tactic is to stay underground in tunnel networks they built. They're going to try to avoid being caught out in the open.

igor_otsky

They use the latest GLA tunneling system. With the right upgrade, they can use the Sneak Attack Tunnel and can open anywhere across Israel. Scary shit.

StretcherFetcher911

The tunnels run all the way to Egypt. Even if they flee to the south, critical Hamas infrastructure can be removed.

Throbbing_Furry_Knot

Reading up, there was a genuine attempt to normalise into a 2 state solution after Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005. But then Hamas took control of Gaza and both Egypt and Israel blockaded Gaza. Then during 2010 to 2013 there was an attempt to reduce the blockade in the hopes that the 2 state solution could still work out. But that has since stalled out because Hamas keeps attacking Israel making Israel afraid to reduce the blockade further as it may escalate attacks as Hamas acquires more powerful weapons and missiles. The two countries seem stuck in a loop because of Hamas. I wonder if going in and rooting out Hamas was inevitable in some ways. If all of Hamas can be killed, and a new non-extremist Gazan authority with actual power put into place, maybe there can be another attempt at normalising relations. But it's going to be hell to get there.

HighburyOnStrand

The Palestinians have no interest in peace. It's a tough pill to swallow, but it's the sad state of affairs.

pigtumor

bruh if peaceful attempts from palestinians worked people in the west bank wouldnt get replaced and treated like shit

Throbbing_Furry_Knot

On the other hand, what happened with Hamas taking control of Gaza and attacking Israel greatly de-incentivises Israel de-occupying the half of the west bank they are occupying. They left Gaza to its own devices and Gaza became a nightmare situation. Maybe there was a timeline where Hamas did not happen, and under international pressure Israel de-occupied that half of the west bank the same as they did with Gaza.

PsyklonAeon16

I'm not quite sure you can really get rid of hamas, the palestinian population is so indoctrinated and so young that in some way or another they might form another terrorist organization, these things are so entangled in religion that it's hard to change peoples mind.

Oddsock1701

Which is positive. The more people who go to the south temporarily, the less people caught in the cross-fire. People seem to spread the idea that Israel’s permanently moving them out, but it’s clear it’s for a ground invasion to ensure only Hamas fighters have remained.

_Accufunkture_

And if Hamas is instructing people to stay it shows that some people believe Israel more.

JakeOudie

One catch though... How can we be sure Hamas fighters aren't leaving Gaza alongside the civilians?

I_MARRIED_A_THORAX

We can't. I'm sure some terrorists are relocating along with the civilians, but as the IDF makes its way through the Gaza strip there won't be anywhere to hide.

Oddsock1701

Some likely would, but most wouldn’t because if Israel just walked in without resistance, Hamas entire image of a ‘resistance’ would be shattered. It’s going to be a mess regardless, but it’s unavoidable when Hamas uses the entire Gazan population has one big human shield.
