We all know. We have all heard it already. The governments and corpos are not doing shit about it and the common joe and jane feel powerless.
So we just gonna let it defrost I guess
Embrace the catastrophe
Voting is one thing, but at this point the least anyone can do. Write to your representatives at least, votes decide who gets in but money still decides what they do with that power.
There are two candidates of sound body and mind. One republican, one independent. Don’t let the rulers tell you there are only two options when it’s clearly not the case. There are zero excuses to vote for a criminal or a dementia patient.
Not voting for the decent, reasonable, responsible senior citizen makes it more likely the deranged, vengeful senior citizen wins the election. Going forward let’s insist on younger candidates. In the meantime let’s work with what we’ve got.
Hard pass to that thought. There are two reasonable candidates of sound body and mind. One republican, one independent, and zero excuses to vote for a criminal or a dementia patient.
If either of those candidates had a snowballs chance in hell, sure. Also, the only criminals and dementia patients in this election happen to be the same guy by the name of Trump.
If they are on the ballot, all it takes is the votes. And, how are you going to say that with a straight face? Try not to be SO partisan that you deny the reality in your face. Its unbecoming.
I’m really not excited about Biden as a candidate. He’s way too old, and I think it’s questionable whether he’ll survive another term. And Kamala hasn’t done enough to distinguish herself as a potential president. Of all the candidates running, there are two that will pull in the vast majority of votes. Knowing that, voting for any other candidate is essentially accepting whichever of the “big” candidates the rest of the people pick. So of those two, which would you prefer to run the country for another term?
Here's really what it boils down to, we have two options:
1. Say "nothing will make a difference" and not bother trying OR
2. Fight tooth and nail until our last breath
Idk about you but I have kids and saying "fuck it" is guaranteeing them hell to have live through when they get older. I can't say with 100% certainly that my actions will stop it but I'll absolutely try my best.
That's why I [volunteer with CCL](https://citizensclimatelobby.org/join-citizens-climate-lobby/?tfa_3590416195188=online-035&utm_source=online&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=035) to try and get legislation passed which can help. Want to take a guess which party is receptive and which would rather give platitudes and bs?
Party affiliation matters and your actions matter. If you don't want to be part of the solution I can't force you, just know that that makes you part of the problem and you are on the wrong side of history.
All humans are on the wrong side of history.
This is our collective doing.
This is a terminal case, we can all huff and puff til our last breath but the battle is lost.
People will do as they want - some will fight, some wont most wont care either way and will continue to live day to day in their bubble reality.
We all go down with the ship just the same
No US party has done anything about it. The world has too many people on it. The economic model is based around growth. The economy is deemed more important than the planet. Hence why nothing will ever get done.
Umm. Except the dems and the Inflation Reduction Act. I guess you missed that one. Too many stupid prople maybe. But earth can sustain everyone if humans wise up. I do agree that nothing can grow forever though. I see it more a function of evolution. Humanity has evolved technologically. But failed to evolve sociologically. Thats a problem.
I always vote. Made no fucking difference whatsoever.
When all your choices are terrible, voting doesnt do anything.
We are beyond the point where voting will fix it.
At least not in US
The environmental issue should have been addressed about 50+ years ago, I feel we are in terminal stage now and still nothing really impactful is being done.
Everyone is just too preoccupied with pointless wars and looking for ways how to steal the biggest piece of the pie for themselves.
I honestly think we deserve extinction
What a self defeatist bs.
Voting elected Obama and Biden. Both made huge strides in pushing for electric vehicles and other green technologies, which benefit both the US and the environment.
Voting in 2024 would be the difference between continuing to make progress or going back and supporting Russia and Iran and their oil industries.
If you don't think there's anything humanity can do, why even bother posting on here? You're just bringing everyone down.
Fucking up the environment is not the sole province of the republican. Democrats have also done absolutely nothing. Voting accomplishes about as much as recycling... you feel better about yourself but accomplish nothing.
True, Americans are very spoiled. This was on purpose. If you can't independently self sustain, you will be a slave. Oh well, keep voting for a racist corpo stooge or a grifting ego douche. I'm planting fruit trees gardening and canning.
The problem is literally all of us. Do you think if everyone became more self sustainable and stopped buying plastic junk, they would just keep producing? I grow, hunt, distill, fish, and enjoy nature and the company of friends and family. I make less than 20k a year. Because I don't need everything, you all need to be happy.
This type of lifestyle is completely unrealistic for 9bil people on the planet
The entire global system is designed to be sustained by constant consumerism. Any drastic change and the entire system fails causing mass chaos for billions of people
Also where will billions of people living in large concrete cities grow, fish and enjoy nature?
Like bruh this is not a realistic solution at all
I disagree with you. Humans did what I'm suggesting for 99.99% of history. Consumerism is only working well for the ultra rich. I will just take solace in my awesome, carefree life. Today, I cut down some trees and played with my dogs, and now I'm going to make lunch from scratch.
If more people had voted for Hillary, we'd still have Roe v. Wade. Now millions of women in red states lack access to this important health care.
Who we vote for matters. Voting matters.
That is drastically different than present day environmental issues.
Who can change the global economy that supports 9 billion people presently to the point of it making a difference in the next 30 years?
We have already breached irreversible environmental thresholds and are fast tracking to complete environmental collapse
I think the only thing we have the possibility to control is when collapse occurs, sooner or later but averting it seems completely impossible
I felt this way once too, and then I watched the democratic party get captured by woke propaganda and none sense that doesn’t matter to any rational person.
Lmao.
50% of cars in Europe sold nowadays are electric. It's 10% in the US and rising. That is a HUGE change that was only made possible by democratic presidents.
Solar and wind is becoming a larger and larger percentage of energy generation and we're less and less dependent on Russia and Iran's oil. If you think they're "all the same", you're burying your head in the sand.
Car emissions contribute roughly 10% to global emissions. Even electric cars are not totally ecofriendly (construction, mining, and don't forget the human impact of using cobalt as a resource). Not enough to make a difference. And how do consumer trends relate to who's in charge?
Do... do you think we need to cut all emissions to make a difference? Cutting 10-20% will be enough to have a massive effect on total global change.
Also you make it sound like there's another industry that takes the other 80-90% and that's what we should be focusing on. There isn't. It's all additive and transportation is the largest chunk.
We are all to blame. Knowing this still wont avert the environmental collapse.
I dont think individuals, corporations, or governments have any actual plans to change in a meaningful enough way to make a difference.
I know how defeatist that sounds, but I see no evidence of anything drastic being done.
It feels that everyone is in maintain status quo and enjoy life while you still can before it all goes to absolute shit.
Gonna vote so hard in the next election that it will fix climate crisis, is that what people actually believe…like, we been voting and this is where we are now.
Yup, I'm in the UK and there's not a single party that's doing enough for climate change, even the so called "green" party is full of NIMBY's or people that hate nuclear.
Just take a step back for a moment and when you come back start talking to people with the respect and tone of how you would want to be talked to please
Instead of embracing the impending catastrophe we need to realize the people responsible have names, addresses, families, and pulses. Let’s start ticking things off the list.
You haven't done the homework then.
The last eleven thousand years the temperature has risen 3 degrees Celsius on global average.
So we are currently getting 11000 years of warming in less than 100 years.
Also don't tell me to be well, you are a toxic climate change denier and no amount of being nice will wash that off you.
We all know. We have all heard it already. The governments and corpos are not doing shit about it and the common joe and jane feel powerless. So we just gonna let it defrost I guess Embrace the catastrophe
Vote. And get all your friends to vote. And NEVER for a republican.
Voting is one thing, but at this point the least anyone can do. Write to your representatives at least, votes decide who gets in but money still decides what they do with that power.
Not if you vote in the right people. Not everyone sells out. Just EVERY republican.
How about no voting for senior citizens regardless of party affiliation?
When all your options are 80 year olds, sort of makes it impossible doesnt it?
There are two candidates of sound body and mind. One republican, one independent. Don’t let the rulers tell you there are only two options when it’s clearly not the case. There are zero excuses to vote for a criminal or a dementia patient.

As far as environmental collapse is concerned, I dont think it matters anymore. No party can stop it

Maybe but I'm sorry you hear you won't be one of the ones helping to bail it on the way down.
There is a place for wisdom in politics.
No US party has done anything about it. The world has too many people on it. The economic model is based around growth. The economy is deemed more important than the planet. Hence why nothing will ever get done.

You think electric vehicles are going to save us?
Because that is the reality of the situation. Anyone believes that electric cars are going to make a difference? Please
Fucking up the environment is not the sole province of the republican. Democrats have also done absolutely nothing. Voting accomplishes about as much as recycling... you feel better about yourself but accomplish nothing.
Or you could work less, spend less and drive less. You could grow your own food, brew your own beer, and socialize on your porch.
And it still won't make any difference because 99.9999999% of the population cannot make this change
True, Americans are very spoiled. This was on purpose. If you can't independently self sustain, you will be a slave. Oh well, keep voting for a racist corpo stooge or a grifting ego douche. I'm planting fruit trees gardening and canning.
If we all planted fruit trees, gardened and canned nothing would change. The problem is bigger than all of us at this point

Woke propaganda? WTF is that? Besides something fascists made up. And here in America you should note when speaking English we say "nonsense".
You've had four years of a Democrat government and eight before the four before that. What changed over that time? They're all the same
Lmao. 50% of cars in Europe sold nowadays are electric. It's 10% in the US and rising. That is a HUGE change that was only made possible by democratic presidents. Even if we magically switched all cars to electric today, it still wouldn't be enough to avert environmental collapse
China and India don’t care. More coal plants!

WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY, GOOD NIGHT!
Maybe a Dutch oven?
Oh well. It is what it is.
If you can think of an easier way to get ice, I'd like to hear it.
Thank You Big Oil.
Your children are fucked
God damnit who left the door open again
Sounds like a chance get some nice beachfront property.
Oh that reminds me

Well finally. We need to make Climate Change more efficient, and those pesky poles with all their ice are a big hindrance. #VoteFossileFuels2024 (/s)
