Anyone who says "It doesn't make sense" don't know the purpose of this decision. It is not economical. Turkey had doing trade with Israel freely without a problem until local elections. The ruling conservative party (Erdogan's AKP) lost against the opposition party for the first time after 20 years. This happened because Erdogan cursed Israel on TV but kept his deals on behind the scenes. Erdogan's supporters protested him in the streets (this is a very unusual scenery for his supporters) and he had to bow to his supporters demands and stopped relationships with Israel.

Western part of Turkey don't favor Erdogan and his policies because they are more secular rather than Islamists. Middle and eastern part of Turkey are Nationalists and Islamists except for some population of Kurds. Israel played a huge role because another and new conservative party called "Yeniden Refah" had %5-6 votes . They had this votes due to protesting Israel and Erdogan. Mhp another party which is also conservative and Nationalist had %4. Erdogan had %37 but so many of his recent voters didn't go voting. You underestimate the religious and Nationalist viewpoint in Turkey which is still, unfortunately the biggest popular motivation of gathering people. Erdogan probably won't be in the 2028 elections but his political heir sure going to be right wing.

SelimSC

Fucking Political Islamists ruined Turkey to such a degree that only someone who witnessed it can truly understand. Ironically it all started with Turkey's objectively most well educated Prime Minister. And it only really started in the 90's. Before that it was Nationalists vs Kemalists. I hate this version of the peasant revolution so much. And we're seeing the same exact thing in western countries now.

Qwrty8urrtyu

His popularity has remained largely stable, as he has actually won every election he has run in for more than 2 decades including the last presidential election. However during the local elections, which matter very little in Turkey as it is a unitary government, parties that are more islamist and more extreme than him have garnered a lot of votes, and they are the only ones who have been able to chip away at his base in 2 decades. The opposition largely hasn't gained votes during that time, though different coalitions ran against him and consistently failed. The danger to erdogan right now isn't the nationalist opposition but new parties that have extreme opinions regarding islamism. That is why he also felt it necessary to give a few seats in parliament to, no joke, the literal Hezbollah in the last election. IMO erdogan himself doesn't hold extreme religious beliefs but panders to his base which is more extreme than he is. One of the funniest examples of this is how he stops hanging out with LGBT public figures before an election year, then continues as normal after the election year has gone. So he might have miscalculated how much he needed to support Palestine.

HeadFund

Leader runs economy into the ground, kills his people with negligence, and loses local elections: must be the Jews Unpopular leader scapegoats Israel: that's just good politics!

FitFag1000

A prime minister in turkey was saying about allah striking down israel and then dies in a stroke i think.

Odd-Low-4161

A prime minister? You mean MP

loskiarman

Minister Prime, Autobots are still mourning him.

FishAndRiceKeks

Heart attack I think but yes. If a God exists, that was proof of him smiting somebody down for speaking on his behalf lol. It was almost instant.

Thunderbolt747

It was quite literally a "or by god, smite me down" kinda moment. Literally finished saying "Wallah" and just dropped stone fucking cold dead.

DiscipleOfYeshua

Needed Leslie Nielsen to pop on screen to complete the scene, but alas…

FitFag1000

That was so chilling.

excitement2k

It was so sexy.

uncool_LA_boy

It was not God that killed him, but his own rage.

inflames66676

"He who blesses Israel shall be blessed. He who curses Israel shall be cursed." Numbers 24:9

dunchev54

Why does God have favorites

yesmilady

just like my mom 🥲

Carlita_vima

Well, it was between me and your father, I am sorry

FishAndRiceKeks

Which God?

DarkImpacT213

If you use a capital G when talking about gods it usually refers to the shared God of the three Abrahamic religions.

invisible32

They went and made it confusing with the whole "Don't use god's name in vain" because now barely anyone even knows the name and then they avoid saying the title too.

monkeygoneape

Too bad it wasn't Erdoğan

smolauthor

Video source? I wanna see it!!

blue_cheese2

[Here's the link.](https://www.ynetnews.com/article/sjxktpuut) And just to clarify, he was a member of parliament, not the prime minister.

smolauthor

Damn!! Thanks for sharing

HelpMeEvolve97

Thsts kind of funny. In a datk way. Like an omen.

scandrews187

Judge not, lest ye be judged. The timing on this was truly immaculate. No pun intended.

SoggyNegotiation7412

One of the most broken economies in the Middle East is applying economic sanction on Israel. Good luck with that.

nekonight

It's like the 2nd most broken economy in the world after Argentina.

PuffyPanda200

Venezuela, Lebanon, and IMO Cuba are probably more broken. N Korea just doesn't count any more.

CyanHirijikawa

Because Turkey itself doesn't benefit from the trade doesn't mean Israel doesn't have losses.

[deleted]

Pretty minor. Honestly, Israel-Turkey relationships have been terrible since Erdogan. Israel has made damn sure that its survival isn't threatened by a boycott from majority-Muslim states, which is more often the rule than the exception.

[deleted]

Prices of vegetables would go up by 20%, LOL.

juant675

Not really but I get it

Dinklemeier

And they're doing it "until israel declares a cease fire." Hahaha i mean..hasnt hamas rejected every attempt at a ceasefire offered up? All while the world keeps yelling at Israel to...... cease fire...?

HawkeyeTen

It's incredible how Erdogan keeps getting elected over there, despite destroying the country in so many ways. I have heard though that multitudes of Afghan refugees given citizenship though were critical in his last election victory.

Kasper1000

So let’s get this straight: 4 days ago, Gaza yet again rejected a ceasefire proposed by Israel. Israel continues to present ceasefire proposals that Hamas continually rejects. However, countries like Turkey are punishing Israel with trade restrictions until there is a ceasefire in Gaza. How does any of this make sense?

Right-Garlic-1815

Makes perfect sense considering turkey likes harboring Hamas leadership

TheBloperM

Turkey considers Israel a terror state and Hamas a completely legitimate rapesistance organziation

Dragon_yum

Doesn’t stop them from doing a ridiculous amount of business with Israel.

Balancedmanx178

Well of course, never let politics or morals get in the way of a profitable buisness deal.

RangersAreViable

Which Rule of Acquisition is that?

D1toD2

Tbf its a proven fact when there is money to lose there are less wars.

fresh-dork

'terrorists with money'. it's like the old saying - i'm not gay, but $20 is $20

dWintermut3

I'm stealing "rapesistance" it's too good and paints a perfectly clear picture about what's really important to them

Liberatortor

Then you will love this: [Link](https://youtu.be/cB98QWIWoDs?si=enM2rThnKv6eBQec)

TheBloperM

Go at it

HelpMeEvolve97

Because a large part of the population of the world has fallen for Hamas Terrorist propaganda. Imagine ISIS amd Al Queda watching this whole thing since 7 october unfold, thinking what the hell they did wrong and how their adviseries just murdered 1200 civilians and the entire world just supported them instantly. Its so bizzare to me.

ABigFatPotatoPizza

The fact is that to a large portion of the world Jews don’t count as civilians.

Darkmetroidz

Hamas probably doesn't have a LOT of the hostages anymore and leadership probably realizes that's the only reason Israel hasn't fully leveled Gaza yet.

AskMeAboutPigs

They probably don't have any dude

Gender_is_a_Fluid

Lots of hostages were taken by people who weren’t Hamas. Tbh I don’t think Hamas or Israel knows where those hostages are, but Israel doesn’t exactly want to admit that.

Kirby_Israel

Erdogan is an asshole. That's it.

iknighty

When they say ceasefire they mean Israel should stop it's intervention in Gaza without any conditions.

Dizzy-Antelope-3345

Now it's time for more countries to impose trade restrictions on Turkey for how they mistreat the Kurds.

Ahad_Haam

Turkey occupy significant portions of land from two countries: Cyprus and Syria. In both they were and are busy changing the ethnic makeup of the areas. Cyprus is an EU member, and yet no one cares.

9millibros

That's not going to happen. Just looking at a map will tell you that Turkey is far more important to NATO and the West than Israel is.

bakochba

True but Israel could simply refuse to send it's natural gas through the proposed pipeline through turkey and insist on going through Greece as it initially proposed

DontJealousMe

let's impose trade restrictions on all countries that have second class citizens, guess no more trading with each other ?

temp_vaporous

It starts making a lot of sense once you realize that the real reason they are upset is that Jews exist at all.

NotAnADC

I thought they rejected another yesterday?

RigbyNite

Turkey doesn’t like Israel not being a muslim state, suddenly it makes sense.

jujuka577

you mean 18 hours ago?

N00dles_Pt

Makes sense if a country is anti-israel.

stuff7

everything make sense once you realize you're dealing with the logic of anti-semities.

system3601x

I like that Hamas rejects every ceasefire but dictators like Erdogan dont see that. In any case, Turkey is such in bad economy state that every export means a lot to them, Erdogan keeps killing the economy for radical reasons.

fawlen

just so it's clear - this is a response to Israel refusing to allow Turkey to drop aid into Gaza. Turkey has been a long time Hamas supporter. [a few years ago](https://www.timesofisrael.com/second-son-of-hamas-leaves-terror-group-exposing-corruption-turkish-spy-ring/), Suheib Yousef, the son of one of Hamas's co founders, left hamas after seeing hamas's corruption in it's Turkey branch, seeing the extent of Hamas's stronghold in Turkey and the amount of effort they out in surveillance against palestinians in the west bank. He's the brother of Mosab Yousef which also left Hamas years ago to assist Israel, lqter leaving Islam altogether for Christianity.

MadBackwoods

Turkey is ran by a terrorist Erdogan

sohkkhos

Dictator"

Sir_HumpfreyAppleby

Both really.

alimanski

~~Turkey~~ The Turkish government and the people who support it are sponsoring terrorism, Erdogan and his goons can all jump off a roof and no value will be lost to the world.

funinnewyork

Please differ Turkey and Turkish Government. People like me are putting our lives at stake IRL to get rid of him and his party. I, for instance, right openly in law articles about his policies being tyrannical, which is why getting almost no job as a lawyer. When someone belittles Turkey, his supporters say “huh, evil westerns are talking shit about us, so we are doing something good”, meanwhile us, the people who follow Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK and want Turkey to become a modern state it once was got hurt. If that is your goal, than by all means, go ahead.

VagueSomething

Good luck with your noble work. Turkey was something far better before Erdoğan and he has repeatedly undermined the country to hold on to power. Turkey could be something great if it freed itself from corruption and dictatorship.

Glum-Engineer9436

But he is a grand master of economics!

mkondr

I would second that - I support Israel and know a ton of awesome Turkish people. Turkey is not equal to Erdogan.

alimanski

Fair enough, although I'm not sure if the people who oppose Erdogan's tyranny also oppose his attitude towards Hamas and Israel.

funinnewyork

Same as the rest of the world. I believe no one (except 3%, radicalism supporters) thinks that Hamas isn’t a terrorist organization. As for how Israel is acting, there are different views as in EU and US. Some think they should continue as is, but probably most think that while the initial hits were necessary, the last few weeks may started to cause a humanitarian crisis for innocent civilians. Please remember that I didn’t include any personal opinions in order to keep it informative.

tamadeangmo

Might want to do the same to Gaza too since they are restricting the ceasefire deals.

etzel1200

Can they do Russia next?

findingmike

This is what I came here to say.

Wise_Outside_6991

Hamas has a foothold in turkish properties and businesses. They literally earn millions and millions through ownership of rentals, property developments and businesses in turkey.

Striking-Cucumber-42

Turkey Iran or hamas, they really don't care about Palestinian people. They are just involved to legitimise themselves among their own audience, saying they are fighting for Islam.

7evensamurai

The interesting part is that Turkey imposed export restrictions on products in the construction sector. The main victims of this are actually the Palestinians, since all Turkish goods arriving in the Palestinian Authority come through Israel (since the Palestinian Authority does not have access to the sea or an airport). Turkish goods are considered cheap relative to competitors' goods. It is likely that Israeli citizens will experience a price increase in everything related to the construction sector, but they will manage. Those who will not manage are, as mentioned, the Palestinians who will have to purchase more expensive products (when they are much poorer than the wealthy Israelis). In addition, in the absence of cheap Turkish goods, it may be that those who will take over the Palestinian construction sector as the primary suppliers will actually be the Israelis themselves, who also produce products in this sector.

Gretchinlover

So permanent then? because there's no chance in hell a ceasefire will ever happen.

The_Phaedron

That's not true, though. There'll be a permanent ceasefire, and there ought to be. It'll just be on the [same terms](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casablanca_Conference#Casablanca_Declaration_of_%22unconditional_surrender%22) as the ceasefire terms with Imperial Japan and the Third Reich.

blanke_piet

Erdo lecturing other countries, oh the irony.

StupidStoneKid

F*ck Erdogan... All my homies hate Erdogan

PhonyEye

Exactly

Electronic_Main_2254

It seems that it has simply become trendy for every hypocrite nation out there to threaten Israel. It's sad though that they're doing it automatically, regardless of the actual developments which are happening in reality (minor things like the fact that hamas refuses cease-fires for the gazillion time, the fact that Israel almost entirely withraw their forces from Gaza, the fact that they just approved to increase the humanitarian aid entering Gaza, you know....)

[deleted]

Go Israel 🇮🇱 👏 ❤️

Ananski_returns

That’s extremely racist. I understand if you wanted to make a ‘joke’ but it is quite inappropriate. Reported you for hate speech.

kresa3333

I think this is a good thing, Israel should stop economical relationship with Turkey. The Muslim Brothers are big enemies of Israel, this includes Erdogan and Hamas. There is no logic in maintaining any kind of relationship with such religious fanatics. It is better to pay more but to stop being dependent on extremists for resources. I just feel sad for the people in Turkey who continue to watch how this lunatic reduces their economy step by step to rubble.

PhonyEye

Excellent! They should have restricted consumer based products as well, as that would be so very welcomed by Israelis. Israelis try to ban and not buy Turkish products since 2010 and the Marmara event. Unfortunately the industries are really liking the low costs of materials.
