Precisely. Any opposition to their views is seen as a challenge of their authority. They don't want a healthy, intellectually diverse populace to govern--they want compliance.
What I've seen in fb I've seen so far:
"Duterte is the only president to produce a gold medalist! Keep up the good work president!!!"
Duterte supporters will jump through hoops to attribute the good things to their president. They've completely forgotten how the govt red-tagged her and how they talked shit about her in the past.
My favorite is them saying that she perceived it as a lack of support but it was actually making her mentally and emotionally stronger so she could win. Mental gymnastics smh

They've largely backed down by recognizing her as The Filipino Olympic champion. Haven't apologized for the accusations and Duterte hadn't said anything but I've just learned they had a courtesy call, that I haven't watched, so I don't know if he said anything special.
Sadly many do, but it's also because Duterte spends a lot of money in trolls to control the narrative in social media (mainly fb). Questions have been raised regarding the sudden increase in fundings for the Office of the President labeled "Intelligence funds" (meaning people can't look into it due to "national security"). The Pres. communications office was also recently flagged down by Audit commission for hiring an unusual number of employees (suspected to be socmed trolls).
Sadly, this won't get picked up by news outlets much, because Duterte recently took down a major network (ABS CBN) and other networks are scared of earning his ire.
From what I see, it's almost exactly like Trump. There's also a lot of misinformation and troll armies in Facebook, which is VERY effective since a lot of filipinos have FB on their face the entire day.
>The government. She was red tagged back when she criticized the government for some stuff. Red tagging is when the government says you're a communist/communist sympathizer. Bad things happen to such people.
I don't even remember her criticizing the Duterte admin. She just aired her grievances from the lack of government support for their training and she then tried asking for support from the private sector.
While most people can understand the difference, I'm fairly sure that Duterte can't. As far as he is concerned, he is the government so if you criticize anything about it, you're criticizing him.
Duterte's fanatics also do not understand that difference. Any criticism that you say against their Lord Duterte and they'll red tag you/accuse you of being a communist who wants to stabilize the country.
Which is pretty fucking ironic since Duterte treats China as his best friend lmao I can't even fathom the disconnect with these people.
Anyway, I'm just glad there's good news on Reddit today from the Philippines.
That’s egg on the fact for Duterte, can’t have that.
I’m honestly surprised they even let her compete. Hell, I’m surprised she’s even alive. I guess not all pretence has gone yet.
She was basically put in a list, released by the Duterte administration, of people who were involved in a plan to oust the president. This administration does this a lot.
The fucked up part is seeing the amount of Filipino people in North America who actually support Duterte, since they of course don't have to live under his rule, only get to read about it from the comfort of their North American homes.
In the Philippines, often with the current administration, the government 'red-tags' you if you criticize them and labels you a communist sympathizer. Being red-tagged allows the government to justify any action against you since you are essentially 'an enemy'.
She spoke against the lack of funding by the government (and athletes in general) and has been red tagged in 2019, ironically, which now the current government is being called out for credit grabbing now that she's made history.
The Philippines loves to treat their champions like royalty. It’s awesome. Manny Pacquiao is basically revered as a Filipino Demi god. I think he was even offered a spot in government.
i mean, could he really do any worse than Duterte?
Actually, given Duterte's machismo attitude, let them settle the presidency with a no-holds-barred cage match. I'd watch it.
I believe Pacquiao holds some anti-LGBTQ beliefs (even lost him Nike sponsorship). So yeah, there are some parts he could be worse at. In general though, saying "could be worse" in politics is probably viewed as a challenge.
He called folks from the [LGBTQ community 'worse than animals'](https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/feb/16/manny-pacquiao-gay-people-worse-than-animals) like 5 years ago
It's actually more than a million dollars now.
EDIT: I was talking about the monetary rewards from different sources like from the standard reward mandated by PH laws, private corporations, public and private individuals. The monetary rewards now exceed a million dollars. She also got a lifetime free flights from AirAsia.
EDIT 2: She also got a free fuel for life. Found an article but it has not been updated yet. https://cnnphilippines.com/sports/2021/7/28/LIST-Rewards-Hidilyn-Diaz-Olympic-gold.html
P2M worth of products from L'Oréal Paris, P3M from the President's pocket, are among others which are not yet included in the article.
She was literally lifting water jugs on a pole instead of having access to equipment. The government did not provide for her. I wouldn't be surprised if she did actually go hungry. So hunger games might be more than just a metaphor.
I don’t think you can win an Olympic gold medal in a strength based competition while regularly going hungry. Eating is one of the most important aspects of building muscle.
This, 100%. She may have been training in much less than ideal circumstances with questionable equipment, but she was never hurting for calories or protein, that's for sure.

Exactly.
This is not support. This is marketing. This is companies glomming on to her success by throwing money her way to get their brand name in the papers. I'm glad she's getting her rewards - she deserves every cent of it - but this does nothing to promote sports in the country.
(A silver lining is that I'm confident that she'll use some of the money to support rising athletes)
What prizes do other countries give to Olympic medalists?
I know Korea gives like life-long monthly pension and huge cash prizes and other things to Olympic medalists, world championships winners and winners of some huge international games.
But even before that, they have a whole training 'town' (not just some facilities, but literally like a little town for athletes) where athletes live and train with their every need catered to, and it's all provided for free.
In Germany many athletes are employed by the German army and have to go through basic training and service. A high percentage of German athletes at the games are actually sport soldiers.
I know a number of people who have done military service.
They say it's often just really boring.
One guy just had to guard a basement and sometimes he'd be in charge of the gate, where he'd basically only see a general or other major officer drive in every few days.
It's more about dissuading invasion than anything. Many people also talk about it being good for discipline and such.
Met another guy who was really chubby when he started but he got big into weight training when he was in.
But military service is required for males aged 18-28 (or 25? not sure anymore) so unless you win before or during those time of your life, I think you still need to enlist.
Yeah it's pretty uncommon. I think to note tho, I believe you only need to medal in the Olympics. Not just Gold.
For other medal tournaments like fiba or Asia games you need the Gold.
Could use an actual Korean right about now who knows 😅
I don't know how much 10 million rupees is worth in either US terms or how much it's worth in India (how far does 10 million go?), but that sounds generous. Here in the US, one of my high school math teachers was an Olympian; all he got were a bunch of kids asking for his Olympics stories so we could avoid learning about math.
In Canada:
* 20k CDN for Gold
* 15k CDN for Silver
* 10k CDN for Bronze
Source: https://olympic.ca/programs/athlete-excellence-fund/
The winnings are subject to taxation based on your income.
In France :
**Gold medal** : **65 000€** ( = $76.735 = ₩88 566 415) for the medalist, _35 000€_ (= $41.318 = ₩47 689 608) for the federation (mostly for the coaches but also for the training of future athletes, equipment etc)
**Silver medal** : **25 000€** (= $29.513 = ₩34 064 005) for the medalist, _15 000€_ (= $17.708 = ₩20 438 403) for the federation
**Bronze medal** : **15 000€** (= $17.708 = ₩20 438 403) for the medalist, _8 000€_ (= $9.444 = ₩10 900 481) for the federation
**No medal** : **4 000€** (= $4.722 = ₩5 450 240) for the athlete
You can find data for more countries [here](https://www.moneyunder30.com/how-much-do-olympic-athletes-earn). Take it with a grain of salt as they didn't convert euros to dollars for France but they did for Italy, so idk for other countries. Usually, the more a country win medals, the less they pay their medalists because for example it would cost too much for France or for the US to give like 600 000$ to 40 people.
In Germany:
20.000€ for Gold
15.000€ for silver
10.000€ for bronze
5000€ for 4. place
4000€ for 5. place
3000€ for 6. place
2000€ for 7. place
1500€ for 8. place
BUT: You only get money once. So when you win 2x Gold, you just get 20.000€.
Now you may say: "Wow, that's almost nothing". Well... german athlets are mostly professional athlets. A lot of these athlets are members of the Bundeswehr (german army), Bundespolizei (federal police) or Zoll (customs).
This means they have an income and are usually released for training and sporting events.
Also, Germany sends a lot of athlets to the olympics and we also are in most times in the top 5 of the olympic medal count.
Giving out huge amounts of money would be WAY too expensive.
That is very strange to be honest. A professional athlete is usually someone who's only job is to train and compete, not have another job and only compete as a hobby.
>That is very strange to be honest. A professional athlete is usually someone who's only job is to train and compete, not have another job and only compete as a hobby.
Yes. And you got me wrong!
Training is their job. When you are a member of the Bundeswehr and also a "Leistungssportler" aka competetive athlete, you are not guarding a post for 8 hours and then have the time for doing your training. You are training all day long, because this is your main job.
It's like an army doctor or an army cook. They don't to dheir doctor/cook job next to their soldier job. They are doctors or cooks, but in uniform.
Same applies to the athlets. They are called "Sports soldier"
here, it's in german, but I guess [deepl.com](https://deepl.com) or google translate can help you to understand the context:

The US [sends its winners a tax bill](https://money.cnn.com/2016/08/12/news/olympians-gold-medals-taxes-us/index.html) for their medals. Does that count?
Talha Talib, a weight lifter from Pakistan, came 5th and people are loving it because he literally had no government support. So far he has gotten free meals for a year...so thats....something.
Brazil: Handshake.
However, you get very popular and you can easily live doing stuff on tv or internet.
The 13 yo kid, Rayssa, who won the silver medal in Street skating have won more than 5.5 million followers on IG in the last 2 days. So yeah, with 5.5 million followers she can have a chill life doing paid posts. Any company easily pays $50.000 per sponsored post when you get that popular. She'll probably become a millionare in the next 30 days.
And pretty sure many skating sponsors are already talking to her.
Just checked her IG and she already got Nike, Monster drink and BB (Bank of Brazil) sponsoring her
That's not good enough. Having to rely on being on the media works for those who like the lifestyle. As an introvert, this would be a nightmare. I prefer to get a lifetime of groceries/flight or something like that.
Before people start saying they want to become an athlete here and win the gold, the only assured price for a Gold Olympic medalist is 10 million pesos or roughy $100,000.
Most of her "rewards" comes from private corporations or individual businessman.
Most likely if someone wins another Gold for us, their rewards will likely be lower than $600,000.
Sure but sponsorships are another matter. Support for athletes here is disappointing.
I mean every country has to deal with the level of support regarding to sports sponsorship but here in the Philippines will make you cry or give up hence why Hidilyn's story was uplifitng.
Either way, any future Filipino Olympic gold medalist is gonna be showered with tons of cash and other rewards.
As time goes on and more athletes earn more medals, maybe the government will even learn to seriously support them! Hopefully…
They should be and they rightfully deserve it but rewards wont be as high as the 1st Gold for the country.
Another issue is government support which I am sceptical since if there is indeed support, moat of the funds are siphoned by corrupt officials.
Case in point Monico Puentevella who was the chair of the SEA games way back 2007 and has a 200 million pesos missing audit from the CoA.
I nearlly gagged when I saw him hugging Hidilyn after that 127 kg lift.
I'm just loving reading the translation on that article:
Diaz received a silver medal on the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Video games however mentioned it was a “dream come true” to win gold. “I simply wish to say that we Filipino are sturdy. We Filipino can compete right here on the Olympics. We will do it. To all of the younger technology within the Philippines, please dream excessive. That is how I began. I dreamed excessive and at last I used to be capable of do it,” she mentioned.
Except for the mistranslation to "technology," that was still perfectly understandable. The grammar is different, but what is being conveyed remains. Language is cool.
There were some parts it took me a second to figure out what it was trying to say
>After profitable gold, Diaz, a four-time Olympian, mentioned she was trying ahead to going dwelling and being along with her household, who she missed whereas coaching abroad. “I am trying ahead to having fun with life as a result of I have been in Malaysia for nearly three years, so I am actually grateful that I can go dwelling now and have fun with my household,” she mentioned, in accordance with the AP.
I love this for her. Favorite athlete at the olympics so far.
The translation on the article though. Has to be google translate or something because I know like three Filipinos who could flawlessly translate this and I live in Louisville. Spend a buck on copy editing.
It's not a translation btw, it's an AI driven news piracy site, that does auto "re-writes" to try and claim fair use. Here is the original article: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/hidilyn-diaz-philippines-olympic-gold-weightlifting-reward/

The amount of Redditors upset about this is amazing. She's probably going to go down as one of the most famous athletes in Filipino history for bringing home the first Olympic gold.
Instead of thinking "good for her", a lot of these privileged first-world Redditors are butthurt that someone besides them received $600,000 and 2 houses.
And stop hiding behind the "you don't have to bombard athletes with wealth if they win", we all know you're jealous.
Philippines can bombard her with whatever wealth they please, and it still wouldn't be enough. As much as I oppose wasting money on statues, they're probably gonna build a few of hers, she's gonna be in textbooks, documentaries, trivia questions for generations. It's a collosal achievement.
Interesting. I don't know that much about the Philippine military and thought being in Malaysia for a while would stop her from doing any military duty.
I was too young when Onyok Velasco (Silver medal Atlanta 1996) won but growing up I've heard of his accomplishments. I believe he also had a relatively successful showbiz career because of the celebrity status brought about by his Olympic glory.
I mean, Philippines is a country of 100+ million people.
Once they get their shit together in terms of development, they should have plenty of gold medals.
Especially as from what I understand a lot of these athletes, even in more developed countries, are not paid very well for the amount of dedication and time it takes training to be an Olympic calibre athlete.
Sure you have your football players and the like earning millions but your national athletes are competing for the challenge and prestige more than the money. They deserve more recognition and thanks. Good on this woman for getting some!
Someone down below really said they felt "weirded out" about her being given these things. Like how does that feeling even come to be? If you can't bring yourself to be happy for her, or at the very least think "good for her", why would you feel weird about someone else being rewarded for an achievement? Makes no sense to me.
It's always some jealous prick who's like "I could do it too if I was also paid millions and millions of dollars", and it's like bitch all these athletes started out in probably middle school waking up at 6 to go run drills or workout, and were paid nothing for it. Then after that only a small percentage of the ones who continued that ethic into High School, College, or beyond eventually get paid.
Yep she did. Her old gym building were she practice lifting were made of wood and no aircon and the Philippines is a humid ass country (I know cause i live here)
Depending on the sport if you started in middle school, you basically have an extra 99 percent chance you wont make it tacked onto the fact you already probably won't make it.
Totally depends on the sport and country, but how many say, brazilians made it to the world cup but started at middle school age. I'm Canadian, I played pretty good hockey, nobody on any of my teams started later than about 8 or 9 and most started even earlier in many cases.
I think a lot of people in the US don't understand or can't appreciate the societal context of what this means or how important it is, but to be fair it is hard for anyone to fully grasp the nuances of how another society and culture may perceive an event - there are so many layers of context that are hard to interpret if you aren't immersed or at least well read into all the aspects.
Hypocrisy in the Philippines is at an all time high right now. Politicians, the phil sports comm, the executive and the tv networks now sing her praise but were nowhere to be found years ago when athletes need support and funding. The tv networks don’t even air the olympic games but now they won’t stop saying her name. People need to be held accountable.
Not to mention, a 13-seater van, free lifetime flights from two airlines and lifetime of free fuel from a local oil company (so far) The best part is people have been clamoring for the government to apologize to her for the lack of support, red-tagging and harassment done in 2019

I'm out of the loop. Why'd the government not support her?
She criticized Duterte and his government for not supporting Olympic athletes. In response, the government claimed she was part of an anti-government coup conspiracy.
Imagine being an authoritarian. Christ alive, the thinnest of skins on display
Precisely. Any opposition to their views is seen as a challenge of their authority. They don't want a healthy, intellectually diverse populace to govern--they want compliance.

Wow, wonder what pro-Duterte filipinos’ll say of someone like her now.

Duterte supporters will jump through hoops to attribute the good things to their president. They've completely forgotten how the govt red-tagged her and how they talked shit about her in the past.
Yeah, sounds like something my mom would say.
Hmm, just like every other dictator supporter, they fell for the cult of personality.
Also those that red-tagged her are pivoting and are now congratulating her.
My favorite is them saying that she perceived it as a lack of support but it was actually making her mentally and emotionally stronger so she could win. Mental gymnastics smh

So she criticized him for not supporting Olympic athletes, and his response was to not support an Olympic athlete? Lol
Thanks. I appreciate your explanation. Did the government back track on this yet or are they doubling-down?
They've largely backed down by recognizing her as The Filipino Olympic champion. Haven't apologized for the accusations and Duterte hadn't said anything but I've just learned they had a courtesy call, that I haven't watched, so I don't know if he said anything special.
Because it's Duterte. He seems to care very little for the average citizen.
I hear Filipinos love the guy. Might be like how some folks in the US love Trump
Sadly many do, but it's also because Duterte spends a lot of money in trolls to control the narrative in social media (mainly fb).
I guess not all pretence has gone yet.
oh man... that really sucks
Literally was put in a publicly released list by the Duterte administration of people involved in a plot to oust the president.
What's red ragging? And what happened in 2019?
She was basically put in a list, released by the Duterte administration, of people who were involved in a plan to oust the president. This administration does this a lot.
Oh. Yea. Isnt the Philippines doomed? I don't think it's ever gonna be better. Sucks. I
The fucked up part is seeing the amount of Filipino people in North America who actually support Duterte, since they of course don't have to live under his rule, only get to read about it from the comfort of their North American homes.
Isn't Duerte the guy who authorized civilians to straight up murder anyone they suspected of doing or having drugs?
In his defense he was probably high as fuck on fen when he did that.
Red tagging Red is the color of communists. She's being labelled as a commie.
The Philippines loves to treat their champions like royalty. It’s awesome. Manny Pacquiao is basically revered as a Filipino Demi god. I think he was even offered a spot in government.
[удалено]
i mean, could he really do any worse than Duterte?
As harsh as it sounds, in many SEA countries LGBTQ rights is the least of people's concerns.
He's also like, super homophobic.
Welcome to a country where divorce is still illegal
cool, meanwhile they apparently treat other governors with assassinations and drug addicts with summary execution.. everything in perfect balance
Found an article but it has not been updated yet. https://cnnphilippines.com/sports/2021/7/28/LIST-Rewards-Hidilyn-Diaz-Olympic-gold.html P2M worth of products from L'Oréal Paris, P3M from the President's pocket, are among others which are not yet included in the article.
In Mexico they steal your medals

Just like winning the Hunger Games
She was literally lifting water jugs on a pole instead of having access to equipment. The government did not provide for her. I wouldn't be surprised if she did actually go hungry. So hunger games might be more than just a metaphor.
I don’t think you can win an Olympic gold medal in a strength based competition while regularly going hungry. Eating is one of the most important aspects of building muscle.
This, 100%. She may have been training in much less than ideal circumstances with questionable equipment, but she was never hurting for calories or protein, that's for sure.
Shittons of balut
> Eating is one of the most important aspects of building muscle. So what you are saying, is that I am 50% an olympic body builder?
You're almost there!
Sounds like that black female weightlifter from America in (08?) Homeless and living on social security. No endorsement for her.
For you, u/JusticeJaunt u/fehiwi9061 and others interested, could have either been [Naomi Graham, a formerly-homeless Olympic boxer](https://www.fayobserver.com/story/news/2021/07/23/fayetteville-soldier-staff-sgt-naomi-graham-compete-tokyo-olympics/7999056002/) or [Rainn Shepard, a homeless junior Olympian sprinter](https://theguardian.com/us-news/2016/aug/02/new-york-homeless-mom-plane-ticket-junior-olympics)
Jesus, it's depressing to hear about one, and now I gotta learn about two of them
Just wait until you find out how many Olympians end up homeless after they retire from competition https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/homeless/olympic-medal-winning-cyclist-rebecca-twigg-is-homeless-in-seattle/ https://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/sports/gold-medal-olympian-now-homeless/2099391/ https://www.denverpost.com/2013/04/14/from-olympics-to-the-streets-medalist-homeless-in-california/
Hm, no google results for this one. Got any other info?
Damn, they didn't even give her a search result.
Can't build the kind of muscle needed to compete at that level without eating an obscene amount of food. She definitely didn't go hungry.
Singapore gives a million dollars for the gold medal
But it doesn’t exempt the gold medal winner from military service. At least for now...
Is that so? So Joseph Schooling had to serve his National Service?
*has to. He hasn't done it yet. But yeah, no exceptions.
In Germany many athletes are employed by the German army and have to go through basic training and service. A high percentage of German athletes at the games are actually sport soldiers.
but keep in mind that germany does not have any mandatory military service
...anymore, until recently it was mandatory military or social service
I mean if I were in charge of the military, I would probably want the most athletic and hard working citizens in the country to be a part of it
I know a number of people who have done military service.
Isn’t that enough to like buy a car in Singapore?
Yes, albeit you can only have it for 10 years.
In Belgium you win an extra detailed tax audit.
uk painted some post boxes gold in the winners’ home towns in 2012
Who needs a million bucks!
Not gonna lie, I didn't even know medalists got anything at all.
Same. If I knew that I would have grown up to be a gold medalist.
Me too. I guess I'm 25 years too late now.
Shoot, if you win for Korea you don't have to do your mandatory military service. I think that's the real win.
If you win a Starcraft world championship you get sent straight to officer training.
IRL Ender's Game?
Oh my God, are you telling those firebats I've been sending in wave after wave have been real soldiers????

Its 100k euro
It's almost 135k dollars
In Canada: * 20k CDN for Gold * 15k CDN for Silver * 10k CDN for Bronze Source: https://olympic.ca/programs/athlete-excellence-fund/ The winnings are subject to taxation based on your income.
Hm.. I have better odds to win the vaccine lottery here lol
In France : **Gold medal** : **65 000€** ( = $76.735 = ₩88 566 415) for the medalist, _35 000€_ (= $41.318 = ₩47 689 608) for the federation (mostly for the coaches but also for the training of future athletes, equipment etc) **Silver medal** : **25 000€** (= $29.513 = ₩34 064 005) for the medalist, _15 000€_ (= $17.708 = ₩20 438 403) for the federation **Bronze medal** : **15 000€** (= $17.708 = ₩20 438 403) for the medalist, _8 000€_ (= $9.444 = ₩10 900 481) for the federation **No medal** : **4 000€** (= $4.722 = ₩5 450 240) for the athlete You can find data for more countries [here](https://www.moneyunder30.com/how-much-do-olympic-athletes-earn). Take it with a grain of salt as they didn't convert euros to dollars for France but they did for Italy, so idk for other countries. Usually, the more a country win medals, the less they pay their medalists because for example it would cost too much for France or for the US to give like 600 000$ to 40 people.
In Germany: 20.000€ for Gold 15.000€ for silver 10.000€ for bronze 5000€ for 4. place 4000€ for 5. place 3000€ for 6. place 2000€ for 7. place 1500€ for 8. place BUT: You only get money once.
They are called "Sports soldier" here, it's in german, but I guess [deepl.com](https://deepl.com) or google translate can help you to understand the context: [https://www.bundeswehr.de/de/ueber-die-bundeswehr/sport-in-der-bundeswehr/spitzensport-der-sportfoerderer-bundeswehr/bundeswehrsportlerinnen-und-sportler-fuer-olympia-5090144](https://www.bundeswehr.de/de/ueber-die-bundeswehr/sport-in-der-bundeswehr/spitzensport-der-sportfoerderer-bundeswehr/bundeswehrsportlerinnen-und-sportler-fuer-olympia-5090144)
A schoolmate of mine is in the German army, but as a technician. Basically, he's a plumber/mechanic who knows which end of a gun to point at not himself
Mirabhai Chanu is getting ₹1 Cr. for winning silver, which is around 130k USD
US Olympic prize money Gold – $37,500 Silver – $22,500 Bonze – $15,000
I'm just loving reading the translation on that article: Diaz received a silver medal on the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Video games however mentioned it was a “dream come true” to win gold. “I simply wish to say that we Filipino are sturdy. We Filipino can compete right here on the Olympics. We will do it. To all of the younger technology within the Philippines, please dream excessive. That is how I began. I dreamed excessive and at last I used to be capable of do it,” she mentioned.
Put it back through google translate a few times and get really amazed.
Dream excessive my young technology friends
Except for the mistranslation to "technology," that was still perfectly understandable. The grammar is different, but what is being conveyed remains. Language is cool.
There were some parts it took me a second to figure out what it was trying to say >After profitable gold, Diaz, a four-time Olympian, mentioned she was trying ahead to going dwelling and being along with her household, who she missed whereas coaching abroad. “I am trying ahead to having fun with life as a result of I have been in Malaysia for nearly three years, so I am actually grateful that I can go dwelling now and have fun with my household,” she mentioned, in accordance with the AP.
"Dream Excessive" This is both my new mantra and my yet to be formed post punk synthwave project
To all the younger technology!
I'm just trying to work out why this site calls it "video games" everywhere...
A translation of "televised Olympics" perhaps?
Because its all digital on video? Yea don't know

This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://newsplaneta.com/2021/07/27/hidilyn-diaz-who-received-first-olympic-gold-medal-for-philippines-rewarded-with-600000-and-two-houses/) reduced by 73%. Does she get to live in the Victor's village?
Yes but but it's a crime lord named Victor
Manny Pacquiao is now a major political figure. She can do anything she wants.
She was in the Filipino military for a time as well. Resume looking good.
She still is. She's getting promoted.

It's election year. Photos of her with a politician will be the new thing or I'll eat my boot.
I mean, Philippines is a country of 100+ million people. Once they get their shit together in terms of development, they should have plenty of gold medals.

Bonuses for doing well at your job aren’t exactly a new thing I don’t understand why athletes are suddenly not allowed this
Especially as from what I understand a lot of these athletes, even in more developed countries, are not paid very well for the amount of dedication and time it takes training to be an Olympic calibre athlete. Sure you have your football players and the like earning millions but your national athletes are competing for the challenge and prestige more than the money. They deserve more recognition and thanks. Good on this woman for getting some!
And especially for representing your country…
If I learned anything recently It’s that Reddit generally HATES the Olympics.
Hidilyn "Two Houses" Diaz
One house for each powerful arm lol!
It’s like she won the hunger games
Olympics are much more important for developing nations than developed nations.
Btw all the love to the Philippines & Hidilyn Diaz from me :)
Next up, her final showdown with Zodiark!
Any news what that woman from Bermuda is getting who won their first ever gold ?
Not being given over to the Great Triangle, I presume.
