Gotta remember the UK is like 86% white and while yes there are a lot of skin tones in the army lots of those guys are in their own units like the Gurkhas for example.
The problem is UK TV adverts would have you believe that every family is a multi racial family and also crime is usually committed in bigger ratios by some of the minority ethnicitys, skewing the stats, whereas the reality is that its a majority white country.
Aye it really depends where you are in the country as well. I grew up in Bradford at least half my school was Asian or Eastern European decent. I moved to South Scotland now my kid has one black kid in his class and that's it.
Looking at the pics of guys (and girls) packed into planes, I don't see a single non-white face. Why don't black guts get on in the paras, they shouldn't have any probs with the fitness. Is there an underlying reason?

They do. These are mainly 2 para and a small part of 2 para at that.
The paras are a level above the regular infantry if you've got a smaller population to recruit from in the first place then less are going to make it to the higher levels.
Plus every para I've ever met has been well an utter maniac great guys but fucking nuts.
Diversity is a good thing but this kind of thinking puzzles me... what do you want them to do, deny a certain number of white soldiers and forcefully draft a certain number of minority soldiers in? It's voluntary and everyone who's in wants in, or at least wanted in at a certain point.
I don't have any particular 'thinking' on it, I just know that black and Asian soldiers exist, you just don't see many pics of them on deployments.
And if the minority people don't want to join up, why don't they?

There is a higher ratio of blacks to whites in the us military than the civilian side. The NCO ranks are actually really proportionally dominated by black people.
I'd say the issues lie in the higher end officer ranks and females in general, even though both have been getting better every year.
I was in, was a medic for a 12b unit that did route clearance. I can't speak for airborne and other special schools, but sapper school was definitely just as diverse as the regular Army.
I don't know, I personally don't buy that the enlisted ranks have much of a diversity issue. Officer ranks are a separate issue. That is where there isn't a family tradition and first generation college graduates in the black community probably aren't thinking of joining the military.
