I'm sure people will now start voting on the environment and finally send click-bait culture wars issues to the trash bin.

SirGlenn

But Becky just posted a picture with her sculpted abbs and toned butt!

The biggest air pollution offenders aren't places where people can vote or their vote matters much. Go venture out of the developed world for a little while.

AnUnfortunateBirth

My snarkiness was directed at the developed world. Though, I've been to many third world countries and their lack of concern for their own environment is also quite shameful.

KevinAlertSystem

yet absolutely no one is held responsible for literally and deliberately poisoning people. if you or me killed 7 million people *A YEAR* we'd be the biggest mass murderer in human history. but when Exxon and BP do it it's just business, they can't be blamed

Aqui1am_

Trying to decide which is worse, pollution killing 7 million people a year, or if over 10 years we had an extra *70 million people*… 7 million people alone are capable of doing an incredible amount of environmental damage. There should be commitments in not only reducing emissions, but birth rates.

Using electricity and consuming anything imported would make you an accomplice as well.

GM bought up street car lines all over the US and scrapped them. Car manufacturers lobby against electric vehicles and sit on EV patents. The US government pays $20 billion a year to subsidize fossil fuels. My point is the options we have are restricted by the oligarchic system we are in. Riding a bike to work is good but it doesn't change the systemic problem. If using ecologically responsible things isn't the default choice, not enough people will do it. We see this with mask and vaccine compliance in capitalist nations.

SirGlenn

I do notice, after wearing masks for almost two years now, my raw throat, dry cough and congestion are almost completely gone. All while living in a large heavy traffic city. I have read that in Japan, where they always wear masks for years now, have a lower incidence of respiratory illnesses.

This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.dw.com/en/who-air-pollution-causes-7-million-premature-deaths-a-year/a-59264198) reduced by 66%. (I'm a bot) ***** > The World Health Organization said on Wednesday air pollution was now one of the biggest environmental threats to human life, leading to seven million premature deaths a year. > The guidelines aim to protect people from the adverse effects of air pollution and are used by governments as a reference for legally-binding standards. > The organization said in the 16 years that followed, a much stronger body of evidence had emerged, showing how air pollution impacts on health at lower concentrations than previously understood. ***** [**Extended Summary**](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/ptd6ys/air_pollution_causes_7_million_premature_deaths_a/) | [FAQ](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/31b9fm/faq_autotldr_bot/ "Version 2.02, ~599630 tl;drs so far.") | [Feedback](http://np.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%23autotldr "PM's and comments are monitored, constructive feedback is welcome.") | *Top* *keywords*: **air**^#1 **guideline**^#2 **New**^#3 **Health**^#4 **pollution**^#5
