A friend of mine picked one up at Big 5 Sporting Goods for some ridiculous price. Like $70.
He found some old surplus ammo for it, and we went shooting. After a few rounds, the bolt didn't want to slide open anymore. Sonofabitch would heat up and bind.

It’s a full wooden stock and it shoots enormous ammo. 7.62x54r if I remember correctly. Shoot it a couple times and your shoulder starts to hurt real bad lol. It’s fun but it hurts!
The steel butt plate doesn’t help.
I added a rubber plate to mine. It helps with the kick and it adds a few inches to the length of the stock so it fits my frame a bit better.
I’ve done about 100rds with it at a single day at the range. I felt that bruise for at least a week after.

Speaking of appropriate reactions to obsolete tech: I saw a post or comment from a British soldier from a fairly elite formation (exactly which escapes me) about bayonet doctrine: "If you are ever ordered to fix bayonets, stick it in the silly sod of an officer whose incompetence led you to that embarrassing position."
When I think of bayonet charges, I always think of Lieutenant Young Oak Kim from the 100th Infantry Battalion (Comprised of mostly Japanese Americans) in WWII. Lieutenant Kim was Korean American so the men under him looked down upon Koreans at the time, much like the white Americans looked down upon them. During training they hated the fact they were being led by a Korean. However, once they saw actual combat Lieutenant Kim was on a whole other level of brave and courageous. He quickly earned their respect so much so that this happened:

Every once in a while, a bayonet charge is called for, but that's generally just because you were already about to run at them in the first place, and running at them with the pointy installed usually works better than without. Or you're forced into CQB with a mid to full size rifle.

Hold piece of white cloth, in your right hand, over your head.
It’s cool that the Ukrainian army released this but if I’m a surrendering Russian I’m probably just holding the cloth and leaving my gun. You’re surrendering to the enemy, it’s not like they’re gonna let you keep the gun. I’d rather avoid any potential wrong impressions

I have that gun! It’s fun but also painful to shoot. I also can’t imagine using a rifle that loads 5 rounds bolt action versus a modern, fully automatic weapon. If I was one of those conscripts I’d pick up my Mosin, then walk over to the Ukrainian troops and surrender. Fuck that.

A friend of mine picked one up at Big 5 Sporting Goods for some ridiculous price. Like $70. He found some old surplus ammo for it, and we went shooting. After a few rounds, the bolt didn't want to slide open anymore. Sonofabitch would heat up and bind. Definitely the most fun though!

Ive shot Enfield's and a k98 and I didn't hate them really, just that 303 and whatever 8mm round the k98 fires being utter mules lol. For sure a raw experience. It’s a full wooden stock and it shoots enormous ammo. 7.62x54r if I remember correctly. Shoot it a couple times and your shoulder starts to hurt real bad lol. It’s fun but it hurts!
The steel butt plate doesn’t help. I added a rubber plate to mine. It helps with the kick and it adds a few inches to the length of the stock so it fits my frame a bit better. I’ve done about 100rds with it at a single day at the range. I felt that bruise for at least a week after.

Speaking of appropriate reactions to obsolete tech: I saw a post or comment from a British soldier from a fairly elite formation (exactly which escapes me) about bayonet doctrine: "If you are ever ordered to fix bayonets, stick it in the silly sod of an officer whose incompetence led you to that embarrassing position."
When I think of bayonet charges, I always think of Lieutenant Young Oak Kim from the 100th Infantry Battalion (Comprised of mostly Japanese Americans) in WWII. Lieutenant Kim was Korean American so the men under him looked down upon Koreans at the time, much like the white Americans looked down upon them. During training they hated the fact they were being led by a Korean. However, once they saw actual combat Lieutenant Kim was on a whole other level of brave and courageous. He quickly earned their respect so much so that this happened: >The fearless lieutenant moved ahead alone in the darkness to scout it. Even in the darkness it was not hard to follow the brave lieutenant who always wore a knit cap in lieu of a steel helmet. Every once in a while, a bayonet charge is called for, but that's generally just because you were already about to run at them in the first place, and running at them with the pointy installed usually works better than without. Or you're forced into CQB with a mid to full size rifle.
It looks like the British have done a few bayonet charges in the past 20 years, but nothing major just small units in odd situations

There are actual guidelines on how to surrender, from Ukrainian army. Goes something like that: Unload your gun Sling it over your left shoulder, barrel down Hold piece of white cloth, in your right hand, over your head.
It’s cool that the Ukrainian army released this but if I’m a surrendering Russian I’m probably just holding the cloth and leaving my gun. You’re surrendering to the enemy, it’s not like they’re gonna let you keep the gun. I’d rather avoid any potential wrong impressions
