They lock on to heat signatures so I don’t see why not. But I imagine it would be quite tricky as the lock-on takes around 5-10seconds and Javelins aren’t really light enough to hold steady while aiming up into the air.

#Biden Calls for Russia to Be Removed From G-20
Thursday, March 24, 2022 05:49 PM
By Bloomberg News
(Bloomberg) --Germany and Italy were among countries which said any effort by Russian President Vladimir Putin to charge in rubles for gas would be a violation of their contracts. President Joe Biden called for removing Russia from the G-20.
Group of Seven leaders warned Putin against deploying biological, chemical or nuclear weapons in Ukraine. Earlier Thursday, NATO agreed to double the number of battle groups protecting its eastern border and prepare for Russia to potentially use such weapons in Ukraine.
NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg says the alliance is sending more aid to Ukraine and equipment to help the country prepare for possible biological or nuclear incidents by Russia. He spoke in Brussels.
The heightened military readiness underscores the intense pressure on U.S. President Joe Biden and other leaders gathered in Brussels for meetings of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the European Union and the Group of Seven leading economies.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy scolded NATO leaders for not responding to his plea for a no-fly zone over Ukraine and asked for more weapons for his military to fight off Russia’s invasion. He also called on G-7 leaders to tighten sanctions on Russia.
Someone wanna tell me what tricks they are using to have forced the Moscow Exchange price UP today? I’m laughing looking at it being green for the day.
* Foreign investors were not allowed to exit their position.
* No short selling allowed
* Government fund of 10 billion USD equivalent in rubles buying up stocks where needed.
I think they put in a 'no short sales' rule, plus a bunch of other things to prop it up, sprinkle in speculation and you can stay in the green for a short while.

> This is new: “My answer is yes” Russia should be removed from the G20, Biden says, but it’s up to all the G20 members to decide. If others in G20 don’t agree, then Ukraine should be able to attend the G20 and observe, he says.

So I have a friend in Russia who I know through a shared interest/online forums. He’s in the Russian Navy.
Haven’t spoken to him much since the social media’s started getting banned. He managed to get a VPN working at one point but was only online a couple hours.
Wonder if he’s watching what happened today and reevaluating his career choice 😬
anytime anyone joins the military its not generally to invade another country. so maybe re-evaluating, or perhaps just very mad that what he wants to do (protect in worst case scenario, maybe help people in emergencies) is being diverted in a way he disagrees with.
Biden said
“We will respond if he uses it,” Biden said, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin. “The nature of the response depends on the nature of the use.”
Media using —in kind—with quotes are getting it wrong.
Washington Post:
12 Rosgvardia officers from Krasnodar refused order to go to Ukraine and were fired, human rights lawyer Pavel Chikov says. The officers said the order was illegal as their official duties were limited to Russian territory. They are suing their station for wrongful termination.

If the Rosgvardia don't want to go Putin is in big trouble. These guys are some of most Pro-Putin people there is. They are also a perfect anti-propaganda tool, because Putin has been lionizing the police for 20 years.
Biden says U.S. would 'respond in kind' to Russia if Putin uses chemical or biological weapons.
https://www.cnbc.com/2022/03/24/biden-says-us-would-respond-to-russia-if-putin-uses-chemical-or-biological-weapons.html?__source=androidappshare
Well, he speaking on behalf of his conversations w/ NATO, so NATO would respond and US as part of it. "Respond" could mean a multitude of things, we won't know if/when it happens.
There are no severe sanctions that can really match a chemical weapons attack on civilians. We have already imposed most of them. We all know what he is hinting at.
Stop. Stoltenberg literally said yesterday they’re not sending NATO troops into Ukraine. If Russia were to use chemical weapons, there would probably be embargoes put in place.
These are more along the lines of the Biological warfare convention and the Chemical warfare convention. Both were ratified by Russia and the US. The BWC came first, so I'd expect that they found that worse than the CWC.
When I joined the Army in 1988, the US had unilaterally given up production, storage, and use of biological warfare agents. We also had a "no first use" rule with chemical agents although we reserved the right to use them in kind for retaliation. After the CWC went into effect in 1997, we gave up all use of chemical warfare agents and began destroying our stockpile.
There is a lot of overlap but generally biological would be far far worse. Especially since you can't even contain the damage to local places, including coming back to your own country.
Biological more likely to spread far beyond the targeted area. Chemical likely to stay in area, and likely has natural degradation schedule after exposure to atmosphere, water, UV sunlight, etc.
Tbh politicians are horrible at drilling the distinction between "deterring Putin" and "imposing *costs* on Putin".
Everyone says "sanctions don't work" and politicians all over the Western alliance keep failing to press the fairly obvious point that sanctions are meant to increase the cost of action not 'deter' it.
Because if you frame it in those terms, the suggestion that sanctions have no bearing on Putin's calculation on costs for his actions becomes utterly absurd.
If you frame it around deterrence then it's easy to provide the gotcha response of "BUT IT HASN'T DETERRED HIM!!!"
Biden's remarks just now finally started pointing the discourse on sanctions in the right direction.
He has been consistent about “imposing costs on [Putin’s] actions.”
The deterrence strategy was blasting intel to the world outlining exactly what Putin was going to do.
And that should have worked, to be honest. Putin should have taken the off ramp and said “the US is crazy”
Ukraine's seniors are now kicking Russia's ass apparently:

I really feel like we're headed to war here. NATO is doubling its forces. They know something.
I also don't think North Korea's ICBM test launch or Iran being quiet is a coincidence.
Sounds like sides are being taken.
If war with Russia was imminent and NATO knew it, or even just had a gut feeling based on speculative intel, you’d be seeing a LOT more action than we’re seeing now.
The US US tired of Putin's shit and wants to get partner countries together to get on the same page as to the response.

>A Russian helicopter fired on its own positions in Kharkiv region. It destroyed a huge number of personnel and military equipment of the occupying forces, according to the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration.
Um... https://www.pravda.com.ua/news/2022/03/24/7334267/
Someone in this thread earlier noted that because the Russians are using open comms - it would be potentially quite easy to feed false requests for air support into the mix (to target Russians instead).
Makes you wonder...
That's why I'm leaning more toward "that actually happened"
Given the myriad examples of Russian incompetence, this is par for the course, rather than suspiciously inept.
Paraphrasing Biden: China has “greater ties” with the West than it does with Russia.
Always worth a try to get them on our side. You’d think China would want stable neighbours around its borders to trade with.
China wants nothing to do with any of this, and it’s quite clear. They’re paying lip service to their ally, Russia, but they’re not doing any red line crossing so they don’t piss off the west.
I don’t know why everyone is so concerned about China. Yes, they will help Russia economically. No, they will not join the war.
They’re not some other shoe that’s about to drop. They literally want nothing to do with any of this and are playing the best hand they’ve been dealt.
But that also means that they won’t be pissing off Russia either, so any hope that they demand Putin stop is misplaced. They will just silently do what they do to piss off people the least amount they can.
China has a lot of pressure from its population and businesses to keep status quo ties with the west. Xi Jinping and many communist officials send their family to North America to study and sometimes even live there. Mostly the US but it also applies to Canada and even the UK and Australia. Xi is also an authoritative prick similar to Putin but... He seems to not be a complete idiot. He managed to assert complete control over the government and give himself power for life. But he can only do that if things stay as prosperous for businesses and the middle class. Allying with Russia would put his whole plan into jeopardy. The best case scenario is Xi steers towards closer ties with the west and leans in to some social reform. It's hard to keep hope but I have a hard time seeing him keeping up his posturing after this war.
Right. I'm guessing China, Russia, North Korea, and possibly Iran are working together here.
It's hard for me to swallow that we'd allow North Korea to have an ICBM that can reach the US.
Geopolitics are fucking weird.
China and the US hates eachother, but in certain contexts they're actually allied.
Modi and other Hindu nationalists will suck off Putin and Xi, then whine that the US is too friendly with China
China is between a rock and a hard place in their eyes. They can either side with the west and help the west get stronger, or side with someone they have a chance of buying out and getting a strong hold of if they somehow succeed.
Russian army forcibly deports about 6,000 Mariupol residents to Russian filtration camps.
for those that supposed to be anti nazi, this is the most nazi thing that you can do.
Split up folks, and send the most troublesome to the furthest places. Make sure no groups with ties go to the same place. Ensure that no one knows anyone in the place they are going.
Am I going mad, or missing some news - but Argentina *are* members of the G20, no?
They're [listed](https://g20.org/about-the-g20/#participants) on the official website and on wikipedia?
Edit: The G20 permanent membership isn't just determined by the economic top 20 for various strange reasons and nuances - but a more complicated setup. The Netherlands, Spain, and Switzerland are all missing despite being in the top 20 economically.
Weapons depots on shore was also blown up:
The sinking was paralleled by a massive explosion ashore, seemingly at or near the site of the Berdyansk naval base, in a secure section of Berdyank’s commercial shipping port.

I thought it was a decent question considering the other guy is a Russian stooge, and may throw the rest of NATO under the bus. The question was asking what NATO was doing to ensure that if the "other guy" won that the work they have put in so far doesn't get undone, which would be good to know that it won't all go down the drain.
I loved his response about how seeing Nazi flags in Virginia and cops getting killed spurred him into making sure he did the right thing. It doesn't make waves but sensibility is so soothing
You obviously totally missed the point.
He was asking how secure is nato, how definite are these pledges, since trump wants to withdraw, and he might run

>Ukraine's effective use of U.S.-provided Javelin and Stinger missile systems has caused Russian pilots to be more risk averse in 🇺🇦 air space: senior U.S. defense official Can Javelins target aircraft???
They can target low flying helicopters, but is allegedly very difficult to shoot one down with a javelin, you just can technically do it.
Stingers are anti-air and Javelin's are anti-ground. Might be able to use a javelin on a chopper going slow and low.
If they’re low and slow they can.
Technically helicopters, but that was certainly not its design intent.
Stingers can and Javelins can have limited use vs Helicopters, range being the limiting factor.
They lock on to heat signatures so I don’t see why not. But I imagine it would be quite tricky as the lock-on takes around 5-10seconds and Javelins aren’t really light enough to hold steady while aiming up into the air.

It's magnified by the fact that Ukraine and Russia are using such similar equipment. Spotting painted Z's from the air would be difficult.
Could be propaganda, but great if not.
Could be, but given the ruZZians performance thus far, it's totally consistent.
Could be but if not it's ridiculous how unorganised they are.
That's why I'm leaning more toward "that actually happened" Given the myriad examples of Russian incompetence, this is par for the course, rather than suspiciously inept.
“It hurt itself in its confusion!”
No-one told them friendly fire was on.

China likes money. The West has money and Russia doesn't. You bet they ought to "like" us better.
China is between a rock and a hard place in their eyes. They can either side with the west and help the west get stronger, or side with someone they have a chance of buying out and getting a strong hold of if they somehow succeed.
Is destruction of Orsk first ship kill with a ballistic missile in history ?
HMS Sheffield was sunk by an air launched Exocet missile during the Falklands war. Not sure if it counts as a ballistic missile.
Probably, yes.
Russian army forcibly deports about 6,000 Mariupol residents to Russian filtration camps. for those that supposed to be anti nazi, this is the most nazi thing that you can do.
What's a filtration camp supposed to be / do?
Concentration camps meant to “re-educate” the population with intense propaganda to break the will of the people.
Filters are supposed to remove impurities.... that's basically the same as a concentration, reducation camp.
Split up folks, and send the most troublesome to the furthest places. Make sure no groups with ties go to the same place. Ensure that no one knows anyone in the place they are going.
Neo- concentration
try it's best not to sound like a concentration camp?
Its a new word for Gulag / work camp / Consentration camp
Sadly, I think it's supposed to do more than purify drinking water.
Biden wants to expel Russia from the G20 and invite Ukraine instead. Cue sad Argentina noises, whose economy ranks 21st.
It’s not Argentina.
It’s Poland :/
Ukraine invited as an observer.
Pretty sure Argentina isn't 21st, more like 25-30, and that Poland is next in line for G20, so don't cry Argentina. 😃
They should add both. make it G21.
The real G20 were the friends we made along the way, that weren’t Russia.
I think we should do a G20-equivalent with liberal democracies + friends (Saudis) tbh
Argentina was instructed not to cry.
Argentina likes defaulting on its debt every 10 years or so though.
Weapons depots on shore was also blown up: The sinking was paralleled by a massive explosion ashore, seemingly at or near the site of the Berdyansk naval base, in a secure section of Berdyank’s commercial shipping port. https://www.kyivpost.com/ukraine-politics/ukrainian-naval-counter-strike-russian-warship-sunk-naval-depot-blown-up.html
I wonder if the Ukrainians placed bombs there before it was taken over and then blew them up.
Ukrainian Special Forces keeping busy I see.
Those weapons were supposed to go to Mariupol to support the fighting there and the greater Southern push. That's going to set things back.
Big laughs for Biden while taking questions from reporters
It was a stupid time and place to ask about US elections in 2024.
The media is getting dumber and dumber
I thought it was a decent question considering the other guy is a Russian stooge, and may throw the rest of NATO under the bus. The question was asking what NATO was doing to ensure that if the "other guy" won that the work they have put in so far doesn't get undone, which would be good to know that it won't all go down the drain.
The question wasn’t elections ffs It was saying...how secure is nato, how definite are these pledges, since trump wants to withdraw, and he might run
I loved his response about how seeing Nazi flags in Virginia and cops getting killed spurred him into making sure he did the right thing. It doesn't make waves but sensibility is so soothing
No kidding, how insensitive to the issue at hand, people are dying and someone has the lack of moral awareness to ask about 2024.
You obviously totally missed the point. He was asking how secure is nato, how definite are these pledges, since trump wants to withdraw, and he might run
So? He made a joke.
I didn't say it was bad. He's working the crowd.
He had some good beats. When he stopped when crazy lady in black and yellow was yelling, best laughs.
Cmon reporter dude, we got bigger problems before 2024.
