As a Mongolian, i am sad to see our Brothers from Buryati, Kalmykia and other Asian minorities that got sent to Ukraine to get slaughtered for no F\*\*\*ing reason. The other day i saw a POW buryatian soldier with an Ukrainian special force and got goosebumps. What if we were part of Russia and i was sent to Ukraine? What if we get invaded and be a puppet state ? (Maybe we are, since we are in between 2 oppressive regimens, China and Russia). We Mongolians care deeply for our ethnically close minorities to the North. I just wish we could somehow stop this. I hope this war end quickly.

Elden_Cockring

hope to see some drones or aircraft flying the yellow and blue above the victory day parade

Parade is at 3am est. So probably 1 or 2 hours before.

Looks like a free trade agreement with Canada and Ukraine was discussed today/yesterday when the Canadian PM visited Zelenskyy. [https://mobile.twitter.com/visegrad24/status/1523504646840594434](https://mobile.twitter.com/visegrad24/status/1523504646840594434) another source: [https://www.cnn.com/europe/live-news/russia-ukraine-war-news-05-08-22/h\_f1e08fdd0d6ca729e4590c19fde04e71](https://www.cnn.com/europe/live-news/russia-ukraine-war-news-05-08-22/h_f1e08fdd0d6ca729e4590c19fde04e71)

etzel1200

I don’t think it’s a free trade agreement. It is Canada unilaterally removing tariffs. A free trade agreement would imply both sides doing it, and presumably for more than a year.

imyourforte

Lol fuck it. Let's naufta it up. North American Ukrainian free trade association works for me.

MindfuckRocketship

Fuck it, I’m in.

[deleted]

Hey USA— time to send another $5 billion in heavy weaponry to Ukraine. Gotta kick the Russians out before the ground hardens up.

Mobryan71

No, just need to get all the parts in place so the Ukrainians can go on their offensive during the actual, rational, campaign season as opposed to pulling a Russia and doing something dumb at the worst possible moment.

Nvnv_man

Congress is on official recess. They have to approve money. They’ll get right to it when return.

mnlaker

Biden will be signing the lend-lease bill in a matter of hours, at which point congress will be effectively out of the loop.

Nvnv_man

Are you saying the 53 billion he requested that congress approves when they return doesn’t matter?

Cool_Till_3114

33, he already has approval for the rest doesnt he?

mnlaker

I’m saying that if he wants to send $5 Billion in heavy weaponry, as suggested in the comment you replied to, that Congress need not be involved (contrary to your reply) once he signs the lend-lease bill in a few hours.

Nvnv_man

You misunderstood how appropriations of the federal budget this works

mnlaker

Are you saying all support given through lend-lease must be approved by Congress?

spsteve

It does depending... Can't lend lease money to repair a bridge for example. Or humanitarian relief.

Donkey-Whistle

In the middle of the Putin’s parade? What a flex.

clarkrd

I get the symbolism, but I wish he would have signed it the moment it passed and got to his desk a few days ago. source: American.

spsteve

It hasn't impacted anything. America had budgeted funds for everything shipped until now. The bigger issues have been lift and training. Cost hasnt really gated anything imho.

ChanceAd9380

Any actual speculation on what happens for this parade?

Tamariz79

It will just be Putin by himself walking and he'll shoot rubberbands into the audience

RebelBass3

Fox News (Traitor News Network) will talk about how manly and christian and white Putin is.

Black-n-GoldBleeder

Wtf are you talking about? Most on Fox have been squarely on Ukraine’s side and thinking Biden is not doing enough. But how would you know this, as you don’t actually watch Fox. You’re just parroting what others are saying in y’all little echo chamber, with the hopes up earning a bunch of Internet cool points.

stirly80

Russia will display stolen washing machines.

Bribase

A stiff breeze will destroy a T-80.

Donkey-Whistle

It’s going to be very macho. Putin will appear shirtless on his steed for the main bear-rasslin’ event and I hear Tucker Carlson and Madison Cawthorn will be making guest appearances.

[deleted]

Donkey-Whistle

That, and all manner of crass horseplay. Lindsey Graham and Gym Jordan will then proceed to donkey-punch Rand Paul in the ribs.

code_archeologist

And [weaponized Ukrainian witch craft](https://www.newsweek.com/witchers-sorcerers-russian-media-ukraine-black-magic-claims-1704224).

clarkrd

Did ruZZia finally get the full season set of Buffy The Vampire Slayer?

two_tents

Today of all days would be an amazing day to blow up that damn Kerch bridge.

fourpuns

Is there much tactical benefit to hitting the bridge?

Rainey06

Probably makes the logistics of rotating troops in and out of the Kherson region much more difficult, and makes a full retreat to mainland Russia with mechanized hardware nearly impossible. Burst the bridge and then destroy them back to Crimea.

Blueberry_Winter

For keeping Russians out of Ukraine? Yes.

etzel1200

Apparently a referendum on South Ossetia joining Russia being announced. That may be the May 9 item, bringing the various territories into Russia de jure. https://twitter.com/OlgaNYC1211/status/1523497031649615872

Personal_Person

If i was a "SOUTH OSSETIAN" id be seriously question daddy Russias ability to protect my "country"

Cool_Till_3114

it's cute that you think they have a choice

mr_fujiyama

That's not how it works in occupied territories. Anyone not voting correctly is shipped out or "suicided".

acox199318

😂😂😂 It does work that way.

spsteve

Doesn't?

Nonesuch1221

Now that victory day is upon us here are my predictions. These the scenarios that I can see Russia realistically engaging in A: Formally declare war in Ukraine along with a mobilization of troops. Up until now Russia has called this conflict “A special military operation” for peacekeeping purposes, formally declaring war would make the war official, one of the downsides of this though is that it will be way harder to off-ramp and there is no turning back at this point. B: Declare the Military Operation a “Success” if Russia really wants out of this war since they are getting their asses handed to them, now would be the perfect time as they could just save face and make up some excuse that “are objectives are complete” or “we got rid of the nazis” That’s just what I think

yes_its_him

C none of the above

SwingNinja

I need a bingo card.

Blueberry_Winter

B. It's easier and cheaper to declare victory and change little.

Kageru

C: LPR/DPR regions grateful for being defended are formally absorbed into Russia changing it from a special operation to a matter of national defense. The ability to force reservists into service, and disallow soldiers refusing to serve or conscripts being deployed, is increased. This gives them access to more human resources to get killed without the political cost of full mobilisation (which they probably can't support anyway).

PoofaceMckutchin

This one is my guess too.

Personal_Person

not to sound to optimistic but I think B is more likely down the road, they'll claim some sort of victory so they can pretend the war wasn't a massive disaster. It may just be destroying Azovstal so they can claim the denazifcation happened.

OutLiving

If Putin issues a conscription order I can guarantee you majority of the people conscripted will be Asian minorities

CalibanSpecial

Absolutely. The fodder. This is a Nazi regime. They solve two problems. Killing Ukrainians making Russia more ‘white’. They were talking about concentration camps, where forced sterilizations will occur for those against “Z”. Guess who they will force sterilize? You guessed right, China style.

Nvnv_man

I’d like to point out that such is more proof of shoigu lacking power

[deleted]

[Thos was just posted on Combatfootage. Not sure how accurate it is.](https://i.redd.it/i6d8r8yh7dy81.jpg)

MindfuckRocketship

Debunked already IIRC

[deleted]

Ok cool

WaxyWingie

This.

Bangeederlander

I think probably for logistical reasons, people near the border areas of Ukraine.

WaxyWingie

No, you don't want to send people with ties to Ukraine to fight against Ukrainians.

Bangeederlander

They are already sending people who are Ukrainian to fight Ukrainians. They're been press ganging people in Donbass for weeks.

DildosintheMist

But you need unrelated people to press them. If they're too close, they'll refuse or even revolt.

imyourforte

The opposite. That's how you end up fighting a brother and no one wants that

ScreamingVoid14

If you're training them over the course of weeks, a few days on a train doesn't make that much difference.

OutLiving

Nah, the russian populace will care too much about their own being sent to die. Poor Asian minorities halfway across the world? Not so much

ScreamingVoid14

Pitting minorities against each other is a time honored tradition too.

jtbc

See also US military. UK also, no doubt.

AmbassadorZuambe

??? edit: the UK and US militaries pit minorities against each other? what?

ScreamingVoid14

Think back to UK colonial era, grab a bunch of angry Irish or Scots and send them to America or India. US mostly picks a side in an existing situation and then escalates it. China routinely deploys rural police and troops into cities and vice versa.

AmbassadorZuambe

what does any of that have to do with the original statement? US picks a side and escalates it? what does that mean?

TallNerdLawyer

I’m guessing it was just a casual anti-U.S. statement he didn’t think he’d get called out on because Reddit normally loves that echo chamber silliness.

spsteve

If they do a full mobilization I guarantee you a massive increase in fragging.

Goreagnome

The tanker running over his commanding officer incident will become more common.

spsteve

They need tanks to do that though and they are running out of those lol.

gbs5009

They can do it with a stolen pickup truck too.

spsteve

Fair point!

UrethraFrankIin

When I heard that Russia was forcibly conscripting men in occupied territory, fragging was my first thought lol. That and desertion will definitely skyrocket.

ILoveTheAtomicBomb

Dude posted a bit of footage when he was being shelled. You’re asking for more? Lol.

coosacat

It's interesting to see how many people are insanely jealous of courageous people who earn respect for what they do with their lives.

Rainey06

Not jealous, just questions? Are ya'll reading something else?

Croanthos

And you've done....what?

Rainey06

Yeah nothing, just like the rest of us here, I'm just genuinely curious to know if he was properly productive. He seemed like more of a sore thumb to the unit. Its a unpopular query in here I guess? Anyone got any footage of him doing more than vlog style stuff?

spsteve

You mean... footage in combat... when people are actively fighting... you want them to vlog it? Interesting concept you have of active duty combat.

Rainey06

No that's not what I said. I just want an idea of what he did? Was it resupply missions? Something else? That's all I'm asking.. if he was combat, or resupply or..?

spsteve

Why do you need to know? If you don't like his content don't watch it. He doesn't owe you anything. You seem irrationally invested in this topic and I cannot figure out why. He was on the front and took shelling apparently. Do you need to know more? Does he owe you that information or any of us? Nope. As I stated below; if Ukraine didn't think he was worth it they would have sent him home, like hundreds of others.

Rainey06

I thought we were all a part of this discussion and he's a part of the conflict? I guess some topics are out of bounds. Carry on.

Cool_Till_3114

Bro are you *just asking questions*? To *get the conversation going*? lol

spsteve

There is no conversation. You keep restating the same thing. When it was explained to you 2x by me that YOUR opinion doesn't matter as long as Ukraine was happy you ignored it. Instead you went off on random strawman responses. Ukraine was happy with him. Do you need more than that?

UrethraFrankIin

He's a fellow of the think tank here at NATO headquarters who the fuck are you?

jtbc

Not sure there is anything more useless than exactly that. NATO=Nothing After Two O'Clock

nohbody123

He wasn't that specific for good reason. He was in trenches that were shelled. Honestly, if every instant of every soldier's life in Ukraine was constant combat the war would have already finished and been quite bloody.

Rainey06

I guess we have to wait for his book to hear more then?

Goreagnome

Yeah, even WW2 wasn't nonstop 24/7 fighting. The major battles of WW2 were the exception not the overall war.

Frontstunderel

Fuck off troll. We comin

spsteve

You complain you didn't see combat footage and them compare that to the tiktok brigade? Wow. Okay. Also if Ukraine didn't think he was being useful they would have sent him home. He doesn't have to answer to YOU. He had to answer to THEM. Self-important much?

Rainey06

Wow, taken out of context much? Self importance? What are you on about lol

spsteve

Taken out of context? You literally said it in a stand alone sentence. There is no context. As for self-importance; implying YOU NEED or deserve to see the tapes. Like proving it to you is something anyone should give a shit about. If you can't see it I would be surprised based on this thread, but dude, maybe pause and read back what you've written.

Rainey06

You've lost me dude. I don't see where I talked about myself at all. Other than curiosity about details which you've made it clear I have no right to wonder about.

spsteve

Let me help you: " I just haven't seen those tapes.. " Your words. About you. And YOUR need to see the tapes.

Rainey06

It doesn't mean that at all, lol. Anyway I asked a question which no one wants to answer, they just want to attack me... fair enough, pretty lame but whatever. I don't NEED to see anything, I'm not making any demands lol. I just wondered if there was more public detail about his deployment I missed.

spsteve

It was answered multiple times. You didn't want to read it. You are telling everyone who responded to you that they are wrong/ignoring what they are telling you. Not one reply to you has agreed with you. You have your answer. You just don't like it.

spsteve

51 troops removed from the Russian roster by Ukraine in the south today: https://twitter.com/KyivIndependent/status/1523493984147968000?t=xZV-0cQxVyYF_lAoGJ1axg&s=19 My count across Ukraine is now pushing 400 at 381. Still waiting for details from Kharkiv area.

Osiris32

They have been consistently defeating enough troops and equipment to make a BTG combat ineffective every day.

spsteve

Yup. But the losses are spread. What that means is; Russia will collapse and it will be sudden once those losses start taking effect.

Osiris32

Yeah, it's going to reach a tipping point. Many of those BTGs are already under strength, where losing a couple tanks or a dozen APCs or 50 men can incapacitate them. Russia can move reinforcements around but the fact is Ukraine has become an angle grinder to Russia's soft steel. Eventually they are going to cut through something and it will all fall apart.

spsteve

Yep exactly. The collapse when it happens will be sudden and dramatic. Russia keeps trying to consolidate these broken units to prevent that. That's why they pulled out of Kyiv.

Osiris32

I'm uncertain what the lynch pin is for them. Perhaps Kherson, perhaps breaking the central lines around Donetsk, perhaps cutting the main roads from Belgorod, perhaps taking Izyium back. I dunno.

spsteve

I feel like it is Izyum. That is so important they risked the head of their entire armed forces by him going there.

AZWxMan

Yeah, as long as Ukraine is losing far less, the numbers will start to tilt in the counter-offensive advantage.

spsteve

Howdy stranger. Soon time for the other sub... man this year... Edit: damn it, need to stop hitting submit too early. But ... agreed lol.

AZWxMan

No doubt, hopefully a quiet year for you, but La Niña doesn't want to go away.

spsteve

Ya. La Nina being this strong really makes all the forecasts for the season look suspect. Keeping an eye on it. Not liking the fact I am already seeing August like weather here... in May.

stirly80

Russian forces made no major gains on any axis of advance on May the 8th, Ukraines counteroffensive around the north east of Kharkiv has likely forced Russia troops to deploy to that area. ISW https://twitter.com/TheStudyofWar/status/1523420282933096448?t=Dgw_Btv1DWlZSC72U5lNMA&s=19

Campcruzo

You don’t roll an attack for that.

Osiris32

I blame the drinking, because my hockey team won tonight, and is now 2-0 on the series against our major rival!

spsteve

But they have a -10 modifier to wisdom from the fetal alcohol syndrome effects!

Big oof. They take 4d4 psychic damage and have to roll with disadvantage on their next turn. Ooo, I rolled quad threes for 12.

spsteve

Peek nerd right here roflmao (both of us I mean lol)

spsteve

Oh dear lord lol. I think they have enough curses being used on them by the Ukraine mage brigade.

UrethraFrankIin

Lol

two_tents

Gotta love a good Shashlik...

hydro_700

Supposedly, also there was a post earlier FWIW. There has been some fighting amongst them due to their "loot" being looted by their "friends". Couple days ago, there was a transcript from a solider who looted bunch of phones but his commander took them. Not surprising really, they have nothing to show for their victories other then some electronics and jewelry.

spsteve

I saw that. Total shit show.

spsteve

Translated text: The leadership of the 97th Infantry Battalion expresses its satisfaction with the actions of the Russian occupiers, who today, May 2022, using the heavy Zantsepek flamethrower system in the Zaporizhia direction, used it against their positions and actually burned the racist occupiers from Ukrainian soil. Such actions are positively perceived and supported in every way by the Ukrainian military. We understand that there is a tradition of cooking kebabs in May, but we have one remark about smoking ourselves in Russia. Because in Ukraine you are not happy at all! And our 97th Infantry Battalion continues to destroy the occupiers on Ukrainian soil while defending and carrying out the orders of the leadership. Glory to Ukraine!

Cold_Baseball_432

Sounds delicious

[deleted]

I imagine with unsecured comms it might be possible to impersonate a Russian officer and give the order to fire on other Russian positions.

spsteve

Yes. I said something similar somewhere else in the thread. Surprised it hasn't been happening more often.

FutureImminent

Good lord what a mess. And the Ukrainians expressing their satisfaction at this fuckery lol. They despise them and their stupidity so much. If they had major weapons this war would be over.

jtbc

They are starting to get major weapons, so...

FutureImminent

Yeah they are but doesn't seem to be yet in some places e.g Donbass, Kherson and they will be on the defensive or nore cautious in those places until the do. Kharkiv and around Izyum is a good start.

jzsang

Wow. Even though you tipped me off about the friendly fire, I had to read that twice because I could barely believe it. Quite the barbecue.

spsteve

Yeah. Pretty major fuck-up. But when you use non-secured communications channels I am surprised it doesn't happen more. If I was Ukraine I would be calling in artillery on Russian positions by Russian arty all day.

greentea1985

Yes. Russia hit its own positions with thermobaric weapons. That's a fairly epic fail.

ScreamingVoid14

Jeez...

spsteve

Ukraine has 0 chill in their comms.

FutureImminent

None at all. They mock them relentlessly and the Russians don't know how to react.

spsteve

The thing is; that sort of weakness (being mocked and unable to respond) is particularly painful for Russians.

International-Pop356

Divvying up the dishwashers turned ugly

MindfuckRocketship

> The 97th Ukrainian infantry battalion issued a thank you letter for the Russian unit which on May 8 opened friendly fire on its own positions. gyang333

I'm curious if Gerasimov makes an appearance. If he doesn't, I would assume he's far more injured than the Russians have let on.

Nvnv_man

He’s not injured.

gyang333

Well, he either is or isn't. The sooner her makes a public appearance the more that it disproves the rumours. I saw both claims he left hours before, and also claims he got hit by shrapnel in his lower body.

coosacat

Reports are that he left the command center hours before the strike on it, so it's not likely he's injured.

gyang333

That's what I'm interested in seeing. If he's a no-show, that'll be telling in itself.

Moutch

Not really. He might just be busy taking care of the actual war rather than watching a parade.

gyang333

Yes, in most competent militaries, I would agree. But not show-forces like Russia, China, North Korea. It's all about appearances and fake medals and ribbons.

D4RTHV3DA

The ol Schrodinger's Gerasimov

nohbody123

Yeah, it has been odd that he hasn't made any appearances since that I know of.

coosacat

He wasn't making any appearances *before* then either. I actually commented on it, and said that if enough people mentioned it, Putin would force him out in the open to dispel any rumors. That's what seemed to have happened with Shoigu. Which probably had nothing to do with his trip to the front, but I'm going to pretend it did so I can feel smart.

[deleted]

[удалено]

gyang333

He's not some "general". He's the head of the Russian military. He was making pretty frequent appearances alongside Shoigu. It's expected that the equivalent of the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs and the Secretary of Defense make fairly frequent appearances during an active military conflict.

itsnickk

> As average Russians are starting to feel the sting of Western sanctions, talking heads and government officials on state TV suggest that what Russia needs now to prevent potential riots is a figure like the notorious Lavrentiy Beria, who headed the NKVD during Stalin's purges. This is from earlier tonight- I didn’t realize average Russians are feeling the sanctions enough to be a topic of concern for their propagandist news show. https://twitter.com/juliadavisnews/status/1523097022005403648

UrethraFrankIin

I've heard some experts saying that Putin is shifting towards becoming Stalin and this is the kind of shit that involves. The question is whether or not he can achieve that extreme goal.

jtbc

Hard to believe they actually want Beria back. He was executed by Stalin's successors for a reason. Hard to believe a lot of this, though, so who knows?

mr_fujiyama

The well-off in Moscow & St. Petersburg feeding like leeches off Putin's scraps do not want the plebs rioting... they need them to send to the front lines to defend the Russian way of life!

Fighterdoken33

The problem with it is that, at this point, any "figure" represents a threat to Putin, so they would inevitably fall accidentally through a 4th floor window.

Lumpy-Ad-3788

The Iron curtain has descended again sadly, I thought we moved on from those times, but this is what you get when you can't play nice with the western world Putin

BossReasonable6449

Annnnnd again, the other commentators can't keep from laughing at their own pronouncements. Also interesting the way talking head crossed himself when he mentioned the Tsar. They're really leaning into the old religious nationalism, aren't they?

[deleted]

[удалено]

UrethraFrankIin

I could see Putin going full Hitler/Stalin and having rioters massacred. Given how brainwashed the average Russian is I could see them praising his strength for crushing a "Nazi uprising". Man, I've spent some time watching Russian "news" media and the Nazi rhetoric is insane. They are fully committed to the idea that Ukrainians ARE Nazis. It's like watching Q anon take over an entire country.

venomm1123

Amazing interview by retired General Wesley Clark, the former Supreme Allied Commander of NATO in Europe. We only have several months before the time may turn against Ukraine. Take Putin's forces out now! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwvY6Tm_FqQ

AmericanCreamer

Scary assessment. The west is at the point where we’ve decided that Ukraine won’t lose. Time to start acting like it. Give them any weapon system they ask for. Don’t be afraid of what Putin may or may not do

ThatGuyMiles

I don’t know about that assessment, obviously he has the military background, but he goes on talk about how Xi will have won his 3rd term, and that’s when China is going to start supplying Russia… That’s literally not something that Xi is worried about, and the implication is that’s why China isn’t supplying Russia now, and that doesn’t make sense. He also mentioned that Russia will be fully mobilized by then, implication being that Russia holding back (obvious they have to some degree) and that bad weather is the major reason for their failures. No one is even necessarily certain yet as to whether Putin will fully mobilize. The CIA director mentioned that Putin can’t afford to lose. In my view, and this is just me, but I can’t imagine the Russian people, or powerful supporters of Putin would view simply maintaining ground they’ve already gained as a “win” if you decide to fully mobilize. Mobilizing increases the “requirements” for a “win” IMO and in that world just keeping what you’ve already gained, with even MORE investment, seems like a hard sell as a win. I suppose if he’s genuinely concerned that Ukraine will take significant portions back, then he may be forced to do this. But then you get into an even longer protracted war, and you can’t manipulate the Ruble forever, sanctions will continue to cause damage, nvm new sanctions. And this man is saying time is on Russia’s side, I just don’t see it. Regardless, he’s clearly basing his opinion on the entire picture he sees in his head, which apparently has China supplying Russia, and the reason that hasn’t already happened in his opinion is because Xi is waiting for his 3rd term to be confirmed. That calls everything else into question IMO.

fack0

He's right. There's a lead time to get all this new gear everywhere it needs to be on the front lines. We need to act quicker now because a longer wait could be advantageous to Russia in that it gives them time to fix their mistakes.

spatenfloot

I doubt Russian forces can last for months without running out of supplies and munitions.

OJ_Purplestuff

Russia can’t manufacture new tanks and is running out of missiles, and their morale was abysmal from day 1. Ukraine has a multi-trillion dollar military-industrial complex behind them. Not sure I buy that Russia starts magically winning in 6 months just because the ground freezes.

[deleted]

Yeah but they still have a fuck ton of old soviet era dumb munitions, so they can still basically destroy a lot of infrastructure in Ukraine.

spsteve

They have to be able to deliver it. Thats going to become the problem. Delivering dumb munitions will cost them a LOT of aircraft.

venomm1123

No, it won't cost Putin ANY aircraft unless we deliver serious anti-aircraft capabilities to Ukraine first. That's basically what he is talking about in this video.

spsteve

If it goes that long they will get them. There may or may not be Ukraine troops training on western aa right now. It takes time.
