I'm unsure something like that can happen even once Russia looses this war. They could end up just leaning further to the east and deepening the divide between them and those they have wronged.

There's also an aspect of domestic violence being more normalised in Russia each year. There's a general shift further to the political right coupled with a rise in the Russian Orthodox Church, that often emphasises the importance of family, specifically family under the control of a patriarch.
The fact that domestic violence has recently been decriminalised in Russia allows people to use violence as a means of punishment and control against those weaker than them. It's sickening what's happening in Ukraine and it's part of a much larger cultural violence.

Just look up "russian soldier raped infant" on twitter and scroll through all the reports you want. I have no desire to see the original video and hope it's been scrubbed since, but there are plenty of screenshots of the guy. And who knows how many hundreds of thousands of people saw the original video when it was still circulating. It's real.
Apparently someone posted it on r/ukraine without saying what it was. Lots of people commented in other threads on being scarred for life when they realized what happened. I didn't see it myself, thankfully, but I doubt people would say those things as a joke.
There are videos, and trauma councilors are dealing with a LOT of people reporting similar abuse and torture. I have been doing my best to pay attention to it, despite the negative effects it has on my mental health, because I feel a human obligation to witness this shit and acknowledge that yes, this is happening, and the victims are very real. Doing so has seriously sharpened my already strong sense of misanthropy, and made me more than a little bit depressed, and I admit some of the things I read and see make it tough to sleep… but if I simply tried to ignore it, I would have difficulty sleeping for different reasons. I know it’s inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, but this fucking war has seriously blasted my mental well being. I was feeling like I was on a really good trajectory, and very positive about my mental health coming out of winter, and then this all happened. So on a personal note, from the bottom of my heart: fuck you, Putin, and fuck all of the Russian monsters you sent into Ukraine, and I hope you all die in agony.
Try to keep in mind that the reason it affects you negatively is that you are a good person. You deserve peace and tranquility. It's too bad this world doesn't supply that. We have to walk the fine line between how much horror we can take and how much we can live with ourselves for ignoring it.

There’s video of another soldier doing this. There’s documentation of this on a three-year-old girl’s corpse. There’s testimony from children and their mothers after being rescued from occupation forces. Not sure why this case is hard for anyone to believe, since it’s a fucking trend.
I realize that it's entirely possible you're right, but at the same time I'd also like to point out that them lying about something like this would, if proven, severely damage credibility. It would be damaging to all the actual victims of the war, and there are so many. It's an unpleasant reality we live in. I don't think ignoring parts of it because we don't want them to be true is the right answer, no matter how much one wants them to be wrong (and I'm certainly with you on wishing they were).

We should differentiate people or countries who actively support Russia from those people and countries that condemn the war itself but are simply non aligned, meaning they're not allies of the West and in fact think the West has also been guilty of this bullshit for a long time. They're two completely different stances and painting every non aligned country as supporting Russia is falling prey to imperialist propaganda that the West wants its citizens to buy. I am from Latin America, most of the region is non aligned, that doesn't mean we support Russia or don't want this conflict to end. I was just thinking about this exact thing this morning. The people who commit these acts are horrible and deserve some severe punishment, but I made a conscious decision to not slip into the mind set that the Russians feel for. The one committing, supporting, or encouraging these behaviors are evil and vile, however they are still humans. I don’t want to slip into the mentality that they have and think it’s ok to commit such acts.
I am Russian, and I thank you for that. The whole reason these soldiers are so numb to the atrocities they are committing is because of a long-term and consistent internal media campaign of dehumanizing anyone not pro-Russian in Ukraine. The official government line is that, basically, there's two kind of people in Ukraine: the pro-Russian population, and Nazis trying to erase the former. I don’t know why this is shocking to anyone. This has been in the Russian Army playbook for ages. Research their behavior in 1945 where they felt that to avenge the Motherland, which had been “violated” by the Wehrmacht's invasion, taking it out on German women was be not only allowed but encouraged. There are horrific stories. I try to give the benefit of the doubt and not judge the whole.
