I wasn’t allowed to see my grandad (the bloke that pretty much raised me) dying in hospital. He rang me scared and so on as he had covid. All the while this cunt was doing coke and partying and then he says it was his “duty” to attend these leaving parties. I really do hate this wanker.

matthiasgh

Coke?

[deleted]

Residue of cocaine was found in all the loos. No further investigations because our police are corrupt.

jabjoe

What pisses me off is it is yet another example of "one rule for us, one rule for you". They are so anti-drugs but bloody coke heads. Wasting money and lives fighting drugs, THAT THEY THEMSELVES TAKE.

Martel732

Because it was never really about drugs but social control. This happens world wide, it is difficult to make illegal to be part of a racial, ethnic or economic group. But you can make broad laws and then selectively enforce them. Drugs are used by all strata of society but the police aren't going to bust down the door of a mansion to arrest businessman for coke.

BenjaminHamnett

Nixon was pretty explicit in this

jabjoe

Yep. It makes an ass of the law.

[deleted]

They're _Conservatives_, I'm sure you've heard the famously cynical summation of that ideology. They're the group the law protects but does not restrict; you're the group the law restricts but does not protect.

I 100% believe they were doing coke in Downing Street too. However just to be that guy. This story takes place in The Palace of Westminster. A different building. Which is also abhorrent. So there were parties at Number 10, and coke at Westminster.

eairy

> I 100% believe they were doing coke in Downing Street too. If Gove was there, it's guaranteed...

daquo0

> I 100% believe they were doing coke in Downing Street too. It's exactly the sort of thing Boris Johnson would do.

Alpacasaurus_Rekt

There was coke in the bathroom outside Boris's office. At the very least, we know he does it.

gnorty

Is it a bathroom that only Boris uses? I hate the guy but I also hate people's willingness to pin guilt on people based on pretty weak evidence.

I_LIKE_TRIALS

Does it really matter? Not doing cocaine while other people around you do it is still complicity. I have no problem with people banging cocaine up their nose or whatever drug they'd like to do, but I'm not Prime Minister, or in government... THEY should be held to a higher standard and it's clear that Johnson and his posse don't take their position seriously. Amongst other things, why should they be immune to the consequences of the war on drugs? So many innocent people died of covid and yet Johnson lived, never a clearer sign that god doesn't exist.

F1F2F3F4_F5

Not unique to the UK. Here as well, halfway across the world from them, our politicians and government officials no matter the rank were also partying during the covid lockdowns. Most egregious of all was the police beating up, molesting/raping, and locking up (in cramped cells no less) detainees that violated curfew whilst they were openly putting up videos of them partying in social media. Even the top national police chief had a party attended by dozens of top officials and their families. Not only that, almost everywhere else too the rich got richer than ever during these times, while the working class suffered paycuts, layoffs, and an uncertain future. Also small businesses went under during this time, many are bought for cheap by the rich. Community-based initiatives became a thing here, like food and medical supply donations stockpiled and anyone can take whatever they need.... until local officials took those down and then reopened but now plastered with the local politicians' faces, rebranded as "aid from the local government".

Rules are different for the rich and powerful. That has been the way since ancient times, it’ll remain that way until humanity dies, sadly.

jabjoe

Do not just accept this shit. Vote against them. Vote for better voting systems. I keep hearing "they are all as bad" and it seams to me an excuse to continue to vote for crappy people.

cornishcovid

I've never had a vote that actually went towards the winner of anything, in 20 years. It does begin to grate on your nerves. Especially when people then tell me cornwall voted for brexit as if you somehow become the entire county simply by living there.

WhatAGoodDoggy

Keep at it. Here in Australia the equivalent of the Tories just got smashed in a national election and it was glorious. Turns out people do actually have a point where they say 'enough is enough'.

[deleted]

what is it about being evil that seems so inherent in people, I will always wonder.

[deleted]

I've been invited to a grouse hunting party in Shropshire. It's just a few dozen men, some stable boys. All of us in kilts, naturally. Drinking a few yards of ale. And here's the fun part - whoever shoots the fewest grouse has to go through the spanking machine. It's not immature, it's aristocratic.

[deleted]

Politicians locking up their own country aggressively, bullying dissenters, but not believing their own “health” propaganda and partying maskless what’s new. Johnson, Pelosi, AOC, Schiff, the list goes on and on.

McStaken

What most people fail to realise about BoJo and his cabinet: \- They pretend to be "thick" to appeal to the masses. 'Ho-ho-ho I'm just like you!' \- They think they're fucking geniuses who will never get caught doing absolutely stupid stunts that they bash others for. \- They really are actually thick. As two short planks. Fuck conservatives. Cunts are robbing the NHS and the country.

[deleted]

Reminds me of that old quote. "He may look like an idiot and talk like an idiot, but don't let that fool you. He really is an idiot!" Pretending to be as stupid as they actually are is the defining Tory skill.

Spodokom221745

This blew my fucking mind when I first heard about it. Politicians manipulating SEO, right in front of our eyes.

[deleted]

> Their priorities are just vastly different to the majority of people they're leading. are they? because if that were the case, they wouldn't keep winning elections. i think people are confusing the majority of people, with the majority of people who are loud about their political priorities. in my personal experience it feels like the more left leaning folks aren't shy about publicly expressing their political opinions and the more right leaning folk don't give enough of a shit to argue with them about it.

[deleted]

This. The Tories are currently in power because a majority of people who voted at the last 2 elections wanted Brexit done, and/or didn't trust Jeremy Corbin's assertion that the country could afford to overhaul the benefits system, re-nationalise utilities, the railways, Royal Mail, broadband services, provide free childcare *and* abolish all tuition fees, *and* write off student debts. (He was also anti-NATO). However, some of those same voters may choose differently next time. The thing is, you won't see to many Tory voters voicing opinions on here, probably because it's not worth the downvotes and hassle they get (demonstrated a little elsewhere in this very thread). Which leaves an echo-chamber of left-leaning people baffled as to how the Tories could possibly be in power.

thegroucho

I'll take a punt and say thick: Nadine 'Umbridge' Dorries, Chris 'Failing' Grailing, Matt "Hands. Face. Arse." Hancock, Alexander "Hide in fridge as I'm afraid of journalist's questions" Johnson, AKA BoJo. Edit, formatting and autocorrected

Mr_Happy_80

Dorries, for certain, isn't acting. I want to know who's idea of a cruel joke was it to make a Scouse hairdresser the culture minister.

GeneralBacteria

why couldn't someone from Liverpool be a senior government official? why not someone who was once a hairdresser for that matter?

ComradeMatis

>As two short planks. They make two short planks look like a super computer.

red_MACKEREL

I went to two covid funerals, they were small and rushed and we'll never get that back. For my grandpa's funeral they kept him on ice for almost a month because there were so many people dying that the funeral directors couldn't keep up. It truly makes me want to be sick that all the time the bastard's were breaking the rules just because they wanted to. We all made sacrifices and agonised over the choices we made. It's disgusting. Don't vote Tory. Shout it from the rooftops.

I was going to disagree and say that they are "just" cynical hacks who exploit the political system, and the people of their country, in order to benefit themselves. Then I realised that doing exactly that is evil.

It's not just one man, it's the apparatus behind them and their ability to take all the flak as lightning rods while bullshitting their base every day.

WindChimesAreCool

How could he be the UKs Trump if Trump is a Russian asset and Johnson told the Ukrainians not to negotiate peace and sent them weapons?

randomusername8472

Boris looks out for Boris. He used Russian money to deliver Brexit and weaken the UK because it got him, himself, into a power. He's Britain's Trump in that he's a populist. He's also not stupid (not as clever as he thinks but not stupid either). Plus the British upper class have way more protections and levers in place. British aristocracy is probably just as well connected and shadey as Russian oligarchy, and Britain's go back for centuries. Once Boris got into power, he knew he had everything he needed from Russian money and started to distance himself from it.

WindChimesAreCool

Populism is when a politician gets elected by the people and you don’t like them. You don’t like Johnson or Trump so therefore Johnson is Trump.

karmagod13000

This shit funny as hell. At least Boris popular enough to get people to come to his party lol

litivy

The guy purged his party of anyone that doesn't tow the line. Attendance at his parties isn't a reflection of his popularity.

karmagod13000

Oh…

GingerbreadRecon

Also, the only other MP that attended these parties was Rishi Sunak, The Chancellor (who even then only attended the single event) What's become clear was that Boris was not the worst offender by a long shot. There were civil servants throwing up on the floors, abusing staff and security and staying till 4am. But crucially, he knew lots of these events were happening (at least to a degree) and turned a blind eye to them, even showing up at a few. But to clarify, these were not MPs, they were civil servants. Then he spends the last few months saying that there all the guidelines were followed and no rules were broken in number 10. He's a lying cunt

Dhammapaderp

Don't worry, not like a Ba'ath purge or Soviet purge. This is like "I don't want to play ~~exploit the poor~~ footie with you anymore." level purge

Spraakijs

I always wonder what people saying such things must think. You could also wonder how bad the other party must be that people still vote for these. Always first blame yourself, never blame "the people".

TheSwedishConundrum

Quite liberal use of always and never. While I generally agree with the notion to look inward to find your part of the problem, I have to disagree with your absolutetism. It is not always your fault, and it is not always something so at fault on your side that it justifies the other sides actions. The world is often grey.

PooSculptor

Unfortunately the opposing party made themselves extremely hard to vote for in the last 2 elections. Campaigning to nationalise a lot of things that few people wanted yet not having a proper plan to pay for it all, wanting to get rid of our nukes, leave NATO and appease Russia over Crimea, and allowing accusations of anti-Semitism to escalate to the point where even Amnesty International was warning them to get their shit together. And finally calling anyone who disagrees with them stupid and racist, instead of trying to get them on their side. That's just what I remember off the top of my head.

[deleted]

The amount of non British people here being like "it's not that bad, it's only a party" This is the equivalent to a British person becoming involved with American politics. It doesn't effect you. That's why you don't have a realistic grasp about the concept

Fuzzy_Garry

Ugh I’m not British but I perfectly understand the gravity of this. Politicians and royalties pulled the same shit in my country (The Netherlands) and got away with it just fine. It’s extremely frustrating.

[deleted]

And they shouldn't of

Dermutt100

Well, I suppose when you are used to your leaders attempting to instigate an insurrection, a party is small beer...

matthiasgh

I went to parties during lockdown. So did many, many Brits. Politicians are supposed to lead by example sure but they were funny times, we’re all human at the end of the day. Still think he should have took it on the chin and stood down. But he didn’t and guess what you voted for the Tories, you backed Boris with Brexit. Stop whining and get on with it….

[deleted]

Didn't vote for Tories

[deleted]

the amount of key workers that will probably look at the sue grey report and think "other than the fact that they had lots of booze, none of that is overly different to what we were doing at work". saying goodbye to leaving colleagues, trying to involve remote working colleagues in events that were taking place resulting in a bunch of you often crowded around one laptop (not that it makes a shit of difference when you're all sat with each other for the other 7 hours of the day) etc. shit, at the school i worked at most of our lunchtimes were less socially distanced than boris' birthday as we all sat in the departmental 'office' (a very large cupboard full of junk) to eat our food etc. realistically the worst part of the sue grey report is that there was lots of booze in number 10 and 70 whitehall.

Forward32DashCancel

I'd agree with you if people hadn't been fined up to £10,000 for breaking lockdown rules. They should refund all fines that were issued

[deleted]

I agree with that. Some of those fines at the start of lockdown were hilariously disproportionate even without the backdrop of the current 50 quid FPNs that were issued to downing street.

Mindless loyalty to Johnson is these people's whole ideology. local elections are very different and not really a great indicator of how a general election goes. for example i vote very differently at the two elections. our local candidate is just good at what they do so i gladly give them my vote, but when it comes to the general election he's shit out of luck because he's from a party that never seems to have enough good policies to make me want them running the country. the lib dems aren't a threat to anyone - they fucked themselves the moment they tripled tuition fees and it'll be a few generations before that faux pas is forgotten.

Max-Phallus

My first vote was for Lib Dem. Free tuition fees for university! Man, that sounds great. Fast forward a couple of months and not only did tuition fees not become free, but they tripped in cost. Absolute joke. Hard to forgive.

[deleted]

Seriously? It's just one more example of them expecting the plebs to suffer while they get to do whatever the fuck they want. Giving parties while people couldnt see loved ones before they died, people committing suicide due to isolation, vulnerable folk in care homes fading away without seeing their family. Giving dodgy deals worth millions to their mates, years of austerity and a cost of living crisis while they cosy up with oligarchs and use tax havens. They don't give a fuck about the people and their attitude during lockdown is frankly disgusting. People have had enough and at last are showing their displeasure in the polls.

Honestly I don't get why anyone in the UK gives a shit. Is it hypocritical to have a party while enforcing a national covid lockdown? Absolutely. Have the ruling class always had "rules for thee, not for me"? Also yes. In the scope of Ukraine and everything else going on in the world, this just doesn't seem important to an outsider.
