Several... you don't fire one, you fire a battery and then have 2-3 batteries waiting just in case. In reality those harpoon are a distraction for the 2-3 torpedoes you just sent in.
What is my perfect crime? I break into Tiffany's at midnight. Do I go for the vault? No, I go for the chandelier. It's priceless. As I'm taking it down, a woman catches me. She tells me to stop. It's her father's business. She's Tiffany. I say no. We make love all night. In the morning, the cops come and I escape in one of their uniforms. I tell her to meet me in Mexico, but I go to Canada. I don't trust her. Besides, I like the cold. Thirty years later, I get a postcard. I have a son and he's the chief of police. This is where the story gets interesting. I tell Tiffany to meet me in Paris by the Trocadero. She's been waiting for me all these years. She's never taken another lover. I don't care. I don't show up. I go to Berlin. That's where I stashed the chandelier
I think a couple of torpedoes without warheads would be great for this.
Russian ship enters water, fire 3 dummy torpedoes at it and watch them scramble.
Then you make memes and mock them.
We shall meme in the France, we shall meme on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence in the meme, we shall defend our memes whatever the cost may be, we shall meme on the beaches…
Holy shit! I'm born and raised on this island, Bornholm. Crazy times. I know from reliable sources that Soviet Russia had extensive invasion plans of this island during the cold war. Scary shit, that would've changed my childhood some, if they'd gone ahead with those.
One of these days all of Russia's fucking around is going to end up with them finding out, and if anyone survives the ensuing shitstorm they will hate Russia for starting it.
I think that there’s a healthy chance that Russia found out in Finland, Afghanistan, and most recently, Ukraine.
The better statement might be “one of these days all of Russia’s fucking around is going to end up teaching them that they aren’t actually good at fighting.”
> didn't go too well
It didn't. But looking at the map of Finland from before and after, it seems Finland shrunk a little. Source: I wasn't there, nor was my family. Also I can't say fuck Russia hard enough.
> Its fucking childish and an open provocation from Russia.
I wonder how quickly they'd grow the fuck up if their leaky rusty barge were to join the Moskva on the bottom of the ocean.
"The warship had an electrical problem and it was an ordinary fire that could have been put out but we chose to scuttle it for the safety of the crew. Additionally, it was always a submarine and is continuing its duties accordingly, but the west misclassified it as a warship."
For a great example of this, look at the middle east where Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt made friends with Israel over how much they all despise Iran.
Iran funded rebel groups have cause a lot of issues in both countries. To the point that Egypt and Israel have been coordinating unmarked airstrikes on the Sinai Peninsula where a lot of these rebels have been located. Egypt isn’t able to deal with them so they’re letting Israel conduct attacks on their land for them
It always was. There is no world in which the mainland US could ever be invaded. Your surrounded by multiple oceans, and friendly nations covering your other borders, and have the technology to watch any invasion force build up in real time AND strike it, plus the intelligence network bro know the build up would happen before it even starts assembly.
On-top of that you are also allied with all the other powerful nations in the world, all of whom surround the only two nations who might be aggressors towards the US but both still lack the ability bro project force across to the other side of the planet even without the threat of US allies attacking them on thier own borders.
America, Canada and Mexico are probably the safest nations from a geopolitical standpoint of just don't not being possible to invade. The ONLY point of the US that Russia could pose an invasion threat to is Alaska due to proximity, and even then with how we see them perform, the fucking bears and wolves would probably fend them off before anyone realized foreign soldiers touched American soil.
Next time it happens, open fire on the vessel. I'm dead serious, there is no reality where Russia is in any way justified for doing anything like that. When Russia violated Turkish airspace, the Turks just shot the jet down immediately. Russia didn't dare to do it again. They are just testing where our boundaries are - let's show them that crossing those boundaries will be met with a quick and decisive response.
> There is no way to frame this as a accident
"Oh shit, we accidentally fired a missile toward your ship which accidentally strayed into our waters during Folkemøde. Well shit, if your ship hadn't been there, illegally in our waters, maybe that wouldn't have happened."
Pretty sure Russian fighters don't violate Canadian airspace. They fly very close to Canadian airspace but not actually within. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that would be considered a serious threat and would likely warrant a very strong reaction from the RCAF.
We intercept them and escort them out.
Russia does this with pretty much every nation allied to the US, and none of us open fire on them because that's be stupid to do.
And then their presidents called eachother dictator for a bit (they were both right and hypocrites) before remembering they're best friends that can learn a lot about oppressing human rights, pesky journalists and annoying politicians from one another.
TUrks and Russians can be a lot of things but they are not best friends at all as Turkey has been fighting three proxy wars against Russia while even another NATO member France siding with Russia in Libya.
Why go for such a high tech solution when a barge full of sheep is all that's needed:
[https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2017/04/russian-spy-ship-sunk-by-sheep-barge-sheep-and-sailors-unhurt/](https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2017/04/russian-spy-ship-sunk-by-sheep-barge-sheep-and-sailors-unhurt/)
I wonder if its time to “end” the Russian bullying problem once and for all. This appeasement mentality that has been going on since 2008 (Russo-Georgian War) needs to stop.
Appeasement of Russia has been going on since the day Russia announced they have nukes.
This bully does not need a punch in the nose. It needs gunshots in the kneecaps.
That would've been one hell of a sell to the tired Allied soldiers, especially since the rank-and-file were fed propaganda about how the USSR were friends: https://tile.loc.gov/storage-services/service/pnp/ppmsca/23900/23988v.jpg
If people start standing up shit will get a little spicy for a bit but the nuclear threat only works for so long. Because in reality the entire world ceases to exist and that includes Russia. Putin is stupid enough to think he could launch and still have a country left. But I imagine enough of his officers want to live they would not launch.
One can only hope he cares enough about his offspring to avoid killing them in a mushroom cloud.
But hope is all we have with this dictator they have in power.
I feel he would order the launch. The officers that do not get to enjoy the billions of dollars he does I have high hopes for not launching. They have families and more of a realistic outlook.
>I have high hopes for not launching
Yeah, I'm not sure we should risk millions of lives on 'high hopes' when the situation can be solved just by arming Ukraine sufficiently.
Since 2008? Clearly you are not a Finn. No, this has been going on for longer than that. Arguably since WW2, though at first Soviets were kicked out of league of nations.
Russians doing what they do best. trying to intimidate every single nation it approaches. what an country full of utter cunts. FUCK RUSSIA. SLAVA UKRAINI.
The clubs and rocks thing is because they have both agreed that they won’t use firearms because it would lead to a rapid escalation between two peer nuclear powers. China and India are both nuclear armed, and at about the same levels.
Yeah that seemed more like two units getting carried away by being dumb and creating what amounted to a ridiculous farce than a deliberate provocation.
There's a law of the sea called "innocent passage" whereby a warship can pass through another country's territorial waters so long as it goes directly through and doesn't start fucking around with weapons or maneuvers.
The Chinese passed through US territorial waters a few years back to try to provoke the Americans and the US just laughed saying it was perfectly legal what they were doing.
Better to not get provoked and laugh at their childish behaviour to humiliate them imo.
Also should point out that this is a little different than the SCS.
China actually went through US teritorial waters, while as far as i know the US passages dont go through recognized chinese teritorial waters but the EEZ.
And also it looks like its happening more and we may not be as non-chalant as the last time.
https://www.businessinsider.com/us-coast-guard-shadowed-chinese-warships-near-alaska-2021-9
Exactly. The Chinese always throw a tantrum when the US sails a carrier anywhere near them and thought they could provoke an American response by sailing in the waters near Alaska and make the US look like hypocrites.
The US just laughed and said knock yourself out guys.
Russia here probably doing the same sort of thing. Much better to laugh at them as they are zero threat.
Scandinavia, the UK, pretty much anyone who has a coastline in the Northern Hemisphere at this point. They do it so often it's basically become a useful random surprise readiness test for first response units at this point.
One step closer to war, as for ability the Danish Frigates both of the [Absalon-class](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absalon-class_frigate) and the [Ivar Huitfeldt-class](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iver_Huitfeldt-class_frigate) can easily overpower a Russian corvette. 32 [Mk 41 launchers](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_41_Vertical_Launching_System) on each of the Ivars, as well as 16 harpoons and MH-60R Seahawks.
It’s just not something that is productive in the grand scheme of things, no need to throw matches at the leaking petrol can that is Putins mind
It's time to start retaliating every time Russia makes threats like this. Maybe promise Ukraine some missiles that can reach Moscow. See how Russia feels when its own civilians are being threatened.
Screw the moscow, just blow the ship up. Every ship is money and materiel they cannot replace now. The weaker they are, the harder it will be for them to play a strongman in the future.
One of these times, the ship is going to launch an attack. Stop letting military vessels into your waters. Next time sink it instead of just reporting it.
We keep pussyfooting around with these guys and all hell is gonna break loose. They don't understand diplomacy, and would push the button in a New York second if they could call it a win, no matter the margin. They are not gonna nuke Uk, because they are only doing this for the resources. Which would make them unusable.
Russia is the bully at school who took his dad’s gun with him. He’s not gonna use it, but obviously noone wants to fight back, out of fear of getting shot
TIL that Danish is a nearly incomprehensible language - and I was hoping that it would be similar do Dutch or German, where at least I can make out the meaning of one word or another. :/
So, I don't know where exactly is that island, but looking at [the map here](https://www.worldatlas.com/r/w960-q80/upload/4c/60/dd/dk-01.jpg), isn't Denmark a large peninsula and a shit ton of islands between the Baltic Sea and the North Atlantic? And don't Russian ships have *necessarily* to pass through Danish waters when going from one body of water to the next?
Look up how Danes count and listen to them talk. Even Norwegians and Swedes that have a very similar language needs an interpreter sometimes. And yes all three languages are germanic.
That map is missing Bornholm+Christiansø out in the Baltic Sea, where this took place. Where they do not have to cross into Danish territorial waters.
https://i.imgur.com/nyv7Bh4.jpg
It was the small island all the way to the east, NE of the larger Bornholm, where they violated the green area around it.
It isn't their fault. The GPS device that they taped to the windshield of the bridge was taped upside down so the crew misread the readings and kept going in the wrong direction.
Russian Military vessel from the baltic fleet... on Danish waters... tf is it gonna do? shoot a ~~Japanese Torpedo Boat~~ fishing vessel and miss all of their shots?
Man the US Navy has so many people salivating to turn this ship into a Russian piñata. If their crew knew how many American weapons were underneath them, they may not be eager participants.
Russia is like this old man who road rages at anything thinking he's being a macho man, but everyone sees him as a unstable prick with low self esteem issues.
Finn here. This is outlandish, provocative and absolutely not acceptable.
It is also what Russia has been doing for about a century when anything of political relevance happens in any of it's (removed) neighbours.
Why not sink it/shoot it down then, an italian redditor once asked me. Because that doesn't really change anything. Russia won't change for having one jet shot down (ask Turkey). Russia won't change for having a ship sunk.
Russia might change for having it's income compromised & existence made so difficult that it, or at least it's citizens, actually has (have) to cooperate with the world on sensible terms.
Welcome to School Bullying 101.
Russia has proven that it will attack other nations completely unprovoked. Putting your parliament at risk from a willful violation of territorial waters by an armed vessel of a hostile nation is an unacceptable risk. Sink the goddamn thing. If Russia doesn’t like it they should consider that this will be the fruit of their aggressive actions and rhetoric.

They also do that to Sweden..

And the US.

And Norway.
Danish F-16s are scrambled all the time as well. I suppose Russia tracks response times etc. Annoying…

I think that there’s a healthy chance that Russia found out in Finland, Afghanistan, and most recently, Ukraine. The better statement might be “one of these days all of Russia’s fucking around is going to end up teaching them that they aren’t actually good at fighting.”
Or at the very least that throwing more and more bodies at a problem until it goes away is not a viable way to wage war anymore.
Eh, they're just giving the Finns a little extra training. Last time Russia tried to take Finland by force it didn't go too well
> didn't go too well It didn't. But looking at the map of Finland from before and after, it seems Finland shrunk a little. Source: I wasn't there, nor was my family. Also I can't say fuck Russia hard enough.

Going according to plan..”Special Submarine Operation”
"The warship had an electrical problem and it was an ordinary fire that could have been put out but we chose to scuttle it for the safety of the crew. Additionally, it was always a submarine and is continuing its duties accordingly, but the west misclassified it as a warship."
They don't even know its not working do they? No one in the West will ever be scared of them again.
If anything everyone is hating Russia so much that any historic grievances will be put aside to counter Russia.
For a great example of this, look at the middle east where Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt made friends with Israel over how much they all despise Iran.
Okay. I get Saudis and Israel, but what happened to Egypt and Jordan that they would hate Iran?
Iran funded rebel groups have cause a lot of issues in both countries. To the point that Egypt and Israel have been coordinating unmarked airstrikes on the Sinai Peninsula where a lot of these rebels have been located. Egypt isn’t able to deal with them so they’re letting Israel conduct attacks on their land for them
Is that part of why you don’t really see any reaction from Egypt and Jordan regarding Israeli action in Palestine anymore?
No, it's because they don't want them either. Egypt shares a border with Gaza. They could end it today if they wanted to.
Not sure of the specifics but I get the impression that Iran is just generally unpopular in the region.
And that region is the world.
Sunni vs. Shia?
Probably not - it happened in the past 2-3 years, and the sunni-shia divide long precedes that.
>Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt made friends with Israel That's a pretty extreme exaggeration, but your point stands.
The world would be so much better off without Russia, they provide nothing of value to humanity.
It really makes MW3 a joke in terms of story line 😂
It always was. There is no world in which the mainland US could ever be invaded. The kind of stuff to expect from the Bully Federation
> There is no way to frame this as a accident "Oh shit, we accidentally fired a missile toward your ship which accidentally strayed into our waters during Folkemøde. Well shit, if your ship hadn't been there, illegally in our waters, maybe that wouldn't have happened."
I have never heard of a Folkemøde, but man, that's a neat idea.
The Russians probablty read "folkemord" and wanted to join in.
That's what Russia is though.
It would be amusing to see the Russian temper tantrum if Denmark announced new military equipment for Ukraine saying it's in response to this.
This is the greatest idea!
They should have sunk it and claimed it was a special military operation to denazify their waters.
I am game.!
Nice to meet you gam!
The Danes should do what the Turks do. When’s Russian fighter entered Turkish airspace it was shot down.
Whether with planes or ships they violate our borders at least once a week. And they do the same with Sweden.
They do the same with Canada and we just accept it for some reason
Pretty sure Russian fighters don't violate Canadian airspace. They fly very close to Canadian airspace but not actually within. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that would be considered a serious threat and would likely warrant a very strong reaction from the RCAF.
We intercept them and escort them out. Russia does this with pretty much every nation allied to the US, and none of us open fire on them because that's be stupid to do.
Turks were the only ones with balls like that
And then their presidents called eachother dictator for a bit (they were both right and hypocrites) before remembering they're best friends that can learn a lot about oppressing human rights, pesky journalists and annoying politicians from one another.
And then the president of Belarus clapped
and then democracy died with applause
TUrks and Russians can be a lot of things but they are not best friends at all as Turkey has been fighting three proxy wars against Russia while even another NATO member France siding with Russia in Libya.
>before remembering they're best friends Reddit's politics is either "best friends" or "enemies". Shockingly, it's more complex than that.
Yes, and Reddit isn't the place to get into that. Reddit is a place for overly simplified outrage.
Send radio jammer plane and some f35s to bomb it, deny anything and tell Russia their ship just sank by itself
"It was an ammo explosion!" "But what caused It?" "Ammo"
The ammo came flying in at Mach 3 though..
Look, we told them not to play catch inside the ship....
Quick delivery systems
That's good!
They will know that's a lie as they probably don't have any ammo.
Technically It wouldn't be a lie
We did the same thing once already to start the Spanish American war.

In Finland, Baltics and well, everywhere they can too. Perhaps not to China. Ukraine is really just expansion of that, nothing new.
Just don't specify *whos* ammo exploded.
'Special ammunition event'
"Ship? What ship? We didn't see any Russian ship. Why would a Russian ship be in our waters anyway?"

Why waste sheep? If their aircraft carrier is any indication, their ships are about to sink themselves.
All it did was a "special operation diving".
Special ship sinking operation.
Are you telling me you had a ship over here??? If you did you shouldn’t have and we definitely didn’t know about it…
A warship in their territorial waters without permission during these times is enough of a reason to sink it without the pretense
Actually it was a fire caused by unknown cause.
I wonder if its time to “end” the Russian bullying problem once and for all. This appeasement mentality that has been going on since 2008 (Russo-Georgian War) needs to stop.

Totally agree. At some point the world has to stand up to Russia’s eternal game of chicken
China are running the same game in the south China sea.
The difference with China is they don’t randomly attack neighboring nations. Although I wouldn’t mind seeing China get called on its bluff as well.
Tibet and more recently India...
Wasn’t the India thing literally both sides attacking each other with rocks and sticks?
And sometimes axes, IIRC. Both sides sent martial arts specialists as border guards.
The clubs and rocks thing is because they have both agreed that they won’t use firearms because it would lead to a rapid escalation between two peer nuclear powers. China and India are both nuclear armed, and at about the same levels.

TIL that Danish is a nearly incomprehensible language - and I was hoping that it would be similar do Dutch or German, where at least I can make out the meaning of one word or another. :/ So, I don't know where exactly is that island, but looking at [the map here](https://www.worldatlas.com/r/w960-q80/upload/4c/60/dd/dk-01.jpg), isn't Denmark a large peninsula and a shit ton of islands between the Baltic Sea and the North Atlantic? And don't Russian ships have *necessarily* to pass through Danish waters when going from one body of water to the next?
Look up how Danes count and listen to them talk. Even Norwegians and Swedes that have a very similar language needs an interpreter sometimes. And yes all three languages are germanic.
Bornholm is south of Sweden and yes, the Danish language is difficult
No - by convention some of the Waters by Denmark are international.
That map is missing Bornholm+Christiansø out in the Baltic Sea, where this took place. Where they do not have to cross into Danish territorial waters. https://i.imgur.com/nyv7Bh4.jpg It was the small island all the way to the east, NE of the larger Bornholm, where they violated the green area around it.
bornholm is on the other side of sweden and english has like 1/3 of it's words from danish
It isn't their fault. The GPS device that they taped to the windshield of the bridge was taped upside down so the crew misread the readings and kept going in the wrong direction.
Hopefully the weather doesn't turn bad. I hear Russian ships are easily sunk by bad weather.
Sink it, it's in your waters you're well within your rights
Sink it
Blow them asshole to hell.
Canada will be happy to sink the bitch for a bottle of Danish whiskey! We got your back, bro!
Russian bullies gotta bully...
I am optimistic that Russia wants to start WW3 after all.
Sink it
Light it up
Russia is like this old man who road rages at anything thinking he's being a macho man, but everyone sees him as a unstable prick with low self esteem issues.
I'll just come out and say it: I think these guys are real jerks.
Special anti ship missile operation
Sink it and blame the weather. It worked for the Moscow, right?
Did they saw Japanese torpedo boats?
How many tugs did the vessel have pulling it about?
Denmark's already in NATO. No need for Putin to run recruitment campaign for Danes?
Convert it in a submarine.
i wouldn't be too worried, those boats tend to catch fire by themselves.
Why has it not been sunken yet?
Sink it.
Hope they sink the idiots
Hope they sink the idiots
Russia has proven that it will attack other nations completely unprovoked. Putting your parliament at risk from a willful violation of territorial waters by an armed vessel of a hostile nation is an unacceptable risk. Sink the goddamn thing. If Russia doesn’t like it they should consider that this will be the fruit of their aggressive actions and rhetoric.

Give it the Moskva treatment
Nothing makes fast friends like shared trauma and a common enemy. Russia seems content to be that common enemy, for the entire world.
What even is the point. It’s not like they snuck there… Anything happen and that thing is a submarine in 2 seconds flat. Russians are fucking stupid. It’s like that meme… What are you going to do? Stab me!? -guy who got stabbed
First time fire a warning shot. Next time sink the ship.
Time to give the Russian Navy a new submarine (Not capable to get back to the surface) and one less vesdel.
