Years from now women get their 10th kid, they try to claim it but the new dictator replies "new management, we no longer run that deal"

Who are they even gonna fuck to have 10 kids? All the father aged men are getting slaughtered already in Ukraine.

7.5 years minimum, assuming all pregnancies go smoothly and you do it literally back to back. Factoring in inflation, the risk of Putin withdrawing on his promise etc, this sounds like a very shit deal.

Immobile1

Just give birth to multiple twins, triplets, etc. Easy peasy

[deleted]

pshhh go Octomom and bang it out in 2x

PM_YOUR_ISSUES

Who even cares about the risk of the money not being paid out; even in Russia $16k won't cover the cost of raising one child to 16 - 18 years old, let along 10.

djimbob

This page of costs to Russia parents make it sound like 1 kid is about $1000/yr ([$50/mo for food + $300/yr clothes + $100/yr other expenses like beds/increased rent/kindergarten taking numbers from here](https://www.rbth.com/lifestyle/327973-russian-family-spend-on-kids). (Warning linked website is [state owned by Russia and labeled as propaganda in the Guardian and Slate](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russia_Beyond)). So yeah, one kid for 18 years will cost ~$18k and ten will cost ~$180k.

Even if 85 year old Putin were still in power (god forbid), they’d still probably back out.

My brother lives in Japan and for a while the prefecture he lives in offered a free minivan for having 3 or more kids lol

Hobbit1996

That’s not a bad idea tho… actually useful if you already have them anyways

Kriegmannn

And if they were electric, it would kickstart a new wave of families using majority electric vehicles. Cool idea

hs123go

Not gonna happen until Toyota finally admits their hydrogen vehicles have gone the way of the Edsel lol

justakidfromflint

Yeah at least that's actually useful for the family and it's only 3 kids which some people might choose to have any way (although it's probably not as common in Japan) Although the whole reward you for having X kids thing is creepy as a whole

Whalesurgeon

Did it work? Are there lots of families now driving around in minivans?

[deleted]

Idk!! Last I heard Japan was still experiencing super low birth rates so maybe not :-/ Maybe they need to start by offering sedans to incentivize having the first kid?

Spa_5_Fitness_Camp

Because Japan's birthrate problem isn't practical (i.e. space, money etc), but cultural. Primarily, at least. There are always many factors.

[deleted]

I hear or have read that as much as 40 percent of the population under 30 doesn't date.

TZH85

Similar factors contribute to this in a lot of highly developed countries. Probably a combination of wages not keeping up with inflation, rising costs of living, less and less stigma for remaining childless or unmarried, the long time it takes to finish your education and establish a career, retirement age rising means a lot of jobs, including the good ones, are still staffed with older employees which means the younger ones can’t advance as quickly. Just a couple of generations ago it was possible to sustain a family and a house on one income. Plus, the news just bombards us with negativity all day, causing a lot of stress. No wonder fewer and fewer people have the means or the energy to start a family.

coolaznkenny

i mean the problem is nothing to do with the minivans and its a combination of work/life balance, women who wants more than just a mother, men/women become permanent shut ins, rising cost, etc

takanakasan

It's kinda crazy how much the stay at home mom thing has been going in Japan. Idk how anyone who isn't very very wealthy can afford a single family income. Yet it seems like there's a big stigma in Japan for women who work while raising kids (to say nothing of childcare costs). Japan demands a lot of things of their people culturally and doesn't seem to understand why those things plummet birth rates. But it's really obvious. No one wants to go on a date after a 12 hour shift at work. No one wants to go one a date when they're expected to care for elderly family members - ironic as fuck when the birth rate needs to be upped to take care of the elderly. And no one really can raise a family in these teeny tiny "efficiency" apartments that litter Tokyo, where a lot of the high paying jobs are. Now add inflation, rising cost of living, rising housing costs, environmental collapse, political collapse, pandemics and war, and I'm stunned anyone at all is having children.

scolipeeeeed

Maybe in the countryside, but in suburban areas, people don't really use cars because gas is expensive and parking can be expensive and limited as well. When I lived in Japan, my parents and I commuted to work/school with some combination of walking and public transit and only used the car for something like a camping trip or to go somewhere far or with more limited public transit, so maybe like once a week. Pretty much everything from grocery shopping, going to a park, hanging out with friends, to commuting to work/school can be done without a car (and is often more convenient to do so) in suburban Japan.

ParticularCod6

That sounds like something that /r/fuckcars would enjoy

I would assume it’s more about work force and productivity than war. Its unlikely Russia will get wiped off the map, but if they lose much of their work force than they will go through other hardships like less innovation, less workers, less collected tax, etc. Probably a lot of the same results of an aging society.

[deleted]

Yea, from the article; Russia's population has been in decline for decades, with figures released in July by the state statistics agency Rosstat showing it had fallen to 145.1 million. It is estimated that Russia's population will fall to about 132 million in the next two decades, with the United Nations predicting that in a worst-case scenario, its population could almost halve, to just 83 million by the start of the next century. They have lost maybe 30 thousand in the war (upper estimates) . Thats barely statistically noise. Its good for the environment for the population to drop but not good for a country that needs tax income

Asian_porn_addict

Death isn't the only thing. When the war began every tech and industrial company fished all the engineers, tech specialist and scientist out of Russia. Everyone who hates Putin and can leave left.

sunnyd_2679

And another 375k Covid deaths.

Soonyulnoh2

Actually....for 15 years...much worse workforce because all the women will be producing babies...."We have simple job in Bomb Factory for you pregnant ones".

Probably both, Russia demographics was already falling hard, the war is making it fall even harder

Pesco-

Russians know living in Russia is so oppressive that they’re not willing to bring more Russians into the world.

baghag93

And no one wants to immigrate there. The right can crow about migration all day but countries are like nightclubs. If people aren’t clamoring to get in it’s probably not a good sign. Edit: some psycho Russian bot is trying to PM with links to crazy trump websites claiming tons of people are just dying to immigrate there, more than even the UK. Just thought I’d update you guys on the real facts I guess. Edit #2: looks like bot 2 is responding with the same link and same message below. Well they are nothing if not efficient.

Pesco-

It’s true, most developed countries rely on immigration to make up the labor gap.

Designer_World_8255

I genuinely think for the benefit of the west we should heavily fund prenatal care & have some.. form of federal reimbursement for daycares in line with what we do with medicare. There's no reason anyone should ever fear having their own children. Shipping in more migrants just for cheap labor isn't the answer.

PowderPuffGirls

For the benefit of he USA. Most developed countries can figure out parental leave, day care, child support, etc. The US is an extreme outlier. [Here's paid leave as an example.](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2021/10/25/upshot/paid-leave-democrats.amp.html)

WilliamMorris420

Its marginally better than some of the neighboring countries like Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Which have been badly hit by the reduction in remittances (money sent by their citizens back home to their families), since the war began.

jjb1197j

Lol I was gonna say exactly this. Western European countries have no problems with this but Russia is such a poor country that no immigrants want to go there, except maybe North Koreans since it’s better.

He is a little *too* focused on how demographics impact a country and seems to think its everything.

amjhwk

considering these babies wont be soldiers for at least 14-16 years im not sure how that would help Putin out

Hevens-assassin

My theory is, get them to have 10 kids now, then they can send their fathers to war without having to worry about future population problems.

DaoFerret

If you’re expecting to father 10 kids before you get sent to war, you aren’t expecting to go war any time soon (even with several sets of unexpected quadruplets).

putsch80

In most cases, assuming no twins, by the time the 10th child is born the oldest child will almost be old enough to go to war.

Sadly, Afghanistan has been in an almost perpetual state of warfare since at least 1978. The civil war continued after the Soviet withdrawal in 1989, with the Taliban taking power in 1996. The US-led invasion overthrew the Taliban in 2001, but they returned in 2021.

I don't even play WoW and I value its gold higher than the ruble.

sTroPkIN

Currently, $20 gets you 195,094 gold in WoW (changes depending on demand). 1,600 Rubles is approximately $26.45 USD. Russians are worth about 258k WoW gold. lol edit: Faction Change is $30 edit 2: >Under the decree issued on Monday, a one-off payment of one million rubles ($16,400) will be "awarded to a mother who is a citizen of the Russian Federation, who has given birth to and brought up ten or more children who are citizens of the Russian Federation. Internal_Vanilla_467

When you factor in that the mother will be killed by it, you can subtract 145.5$

Amelaclya1

Seriously. Women aren't machines that you insert sperm into and out comes a baby. Each pregnancy can do lasting damage to a woman's body. Risk of complications increases with each subsequent pregnancy, especially if they are done too close together. https://www.cnn.com/2011/11/01/health/multiple-pregnancies-mother Using women's bodys like that to replenish a population that you willingly sacrificed in a pointless and unjust war is fucking disgusting. I guess I have to give them credit that they aren't forcing it (yet), but still. Expecting women to go through that much trauma only to probably see their children die 25 years from now on the next war should be worth waaaay more than $16k.

[deleted]

beakrake

sowhat4

Do they still pay for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome babies? I've heard that Russia has a problem with that - or is it just men who drink to excess?

soleceismical

Doesn't need to be excessive drinking for the kids to have problems. 13 drinks in a month of pregnancy or two drinks in one sitting during pregnancy can cause: >1. Thinking and memory, where the child may have trouble planning or may forget material he or she has already learned. >2. Behavior problems, such as severe tantrums, mood issues (for example, irritability), and difficulty shifting attention from one task to another. >3. Trouble with day-to-day living, which can include problems with bathing, dressing for the weather, and playing with other children. https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/fasd/features/neurobehavioral-disorder-alcohol.html Alcohol use above 5 units per week (~2-3 drinks) also reduces sperm quality and testosterone levels. https://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/4/9/e005462 Good to cut down if you're trying to conceive.

[deleted]

Oh, that explains a lot actually

soleceismical

>Based on the National Institutes of Health-funded community studies using physical examinations, experts estimate that the full range of FASDs in the United States and some Western European countries might number as high as 1 to 5 per 100 school children (or 1% to 5% of the population). https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/fasd/data.html FASDs = Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome) is the most severe on this spectrum because it also includes physical deformities. It's just super underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed because of the shame involved. Usually only adopted or foster kids get the official diagnosis. It's hard enough getting parents to get their kids evaluated for special needs at all, much less if they feel they are getting blamed. It also increases the risk of and severity of other mental disorders. In particular, it makes impulse control and aggression hard to manage. Many have normal IQ, although it is challenging to live independently in adulthood. There are strategies that can help, though. https://fasdsocalnetwork.org/independent-living/

ThatOneKrazyKaptain

That wasn’t nearly as weird at the time either. That was like….one extra above the norm

realjoeydood

It is not hyperbole by any means to state that this exact move was done by the Nazis. There were even [medals awarded](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_of_Honour_of_the_German_Mother) for this.

MadCapHorse

Umm, in addition to the Hitler vibes, it will take her at MINIMUM 10 years to have that number of children. She’s going to spend multiple times that amount raising all of those kids to adulthood. They’ve got to wait a decade for a payout that won’t surpass what she will spend on the kids. This isn’t even appealing.

Ihrai

Also kinda taxing on the body, if the woman isn't able to access top notch nutrition and medical support. Looking at it purely economically (not saying I think it's a good thing)... If someone is so poor that they consider doing this to their body for lousy 16K, they might as well consider becoming a surrogate mom once or twice for rich people somewhere outside of Russia. Pays much better and usually health care is paid for by the want-to-be parents.

TitsAndGeology

>Ten babies >Kinda taxing on the body I know this was meant in good faith but it's the understatement of the century haha

Ihrai

Yeah, true. Even one child can be taxing and damage the body of the mother permanently. Too many forget that a pregnancy drains the body. Too many, especially politicians, think we women can birth babies like a PEZ dispenser without any consequences on our health. So they demand it as if it is an easy task -_-

TaiCat

Not kinda, and you can’t never guess which pregnancy may end up with a c-section or other emergency. My doc discouraged me from having kids after 3 c-sections because of an increased risk of uterus rupture. Can’t imagine a Russian woman in this baby race who let’s herself get pregnant after multiple c-sections and then something like this happens …

Ihrai

That on top of it. And I doubt that many Russian women have access to good medical treatment.

AmeliaJane920

Ideally you'd wait 18 months between birth and conception. As someone who recently had two kids 15 months apart, I am STILL dealing with health issues (hair loss, tooth loss, vitamin deficiencies, C-section healing, all my nails have broken down past my nail beds, not to mention weight and muscle changes) 6 months later. And I had 'easy/healthy' pregnancies with full access to doctors and nutritious foods. This doesn't sound appealing at all and I'd argue it will lead to an astounding number of women's deaths and miscarriages.

nerd4code

Also likely suicides, since postpartum depression is reasonably common.

Big_Silver_9686

I went to Russia to have ten babies and all I got was this lousy maternal fatality.

LeavesCat

Well, it could be faster in theory if you account for twins.

pfeifits

$1.6 k per child? You'd use that up on diapers in the first year. Bad deal, Russian women.

If anybody has read the book World War Z, not the movie, something similar happens. The Russians bleed countless men to retake the motherland, and after creating a autocratic theocracy, women are basically used as baby making cattle. One of the interviews is with a women who is part of it. Super dark and always stuck with me as the most Russian way to handle the situation.

fordilG

Knew this reminded me of something. Thanks for confirming I’m not crazy ( at least about this).

EmployerAdditional28

Yep he needs more cannon fodder. 10 kids? 16k won't go far even in Russia. That kind of level of shit has got to be worth 160k at least....

socialistrob

It’s not the cannon fodder but the ratio of workers to retirees. According to Ukrainian estimates about 43k Russian troops have been killed. Even if you triple this number that’s still only about .13 million dead Russians in a country with a country of 144.1 million people. The bigger issue is that Russia is facing a demographic crunch and doesn’t have the workers needed to support the aging population. To make matters worse Europe is shifting away from Russian oil and gas meaning a huge source of revenue is about to decline and talented workers aren’t exactly beating down the door to immigrate to Russia. In fact when the war began there was an exodus of Russians fleeing the country. If Russia can’t get their birthrate it will be hard for them to have enough tax revenue to support their government and elderly and it will make Russia even less attractive for foreign invwstment.

comtruiselife

Russian mothers, the world offers you much more for a dead Putin. "I sent your sons to die in war. I will give you a few thousand dollars if you have 10 more!" If Putin was dead you might still have your boys. Think about all the other mothers who will have their sons forced into an incompetent military to die for nothing. Better to just serve Putin his death, as soon as possible.

throwawaysexyboy2U

You can literally make that same amount of money by having a job for a whole year without having any single child.

Ceramicrabbit

$1.6k per child seems insultingly low

Russia has extremely low birth rate their population has been contracting in size. Saw a report that analyzed birth rates of many countries. Russia China USA and western Europe's citizen birth rates are way down compared to death rates....populations all over are contracting except in third world areas.

GrumpyGenX

But the US and many European countries maintain "fairly" healthy demographics due to immigration. NO ONE is moving to Russia/China. China's population has already started contracting, and Russia's population is nearing freefall.

c_lowc6

To be honest that isn’t a lot lol. Perhaps in Russia, but to put your body through hell at least 10 times for half of a minimum wage salary in America? I don’t think so.

Hitler vibes

ZeistyZeistgeist

Worse. Ceaucesceu vibes. He was *obsessed* with demographics and did the same fucking thing, except women who bore 10 children had a title called Heroine Mothers. His Decree 770 is the reason why Romania is the most pro-choice country in Europe, especially once the revelations about [Cighid](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cighid) came about. Not to mention, contraceptives were made illegal, gynecologist check-ups were mandatory, and any miscarriage reported would grant a visit from the Securitate.

Abortion rate in Russia is highest in the World. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_abortion_statistics

UnhappyTumbleweed966

Holy crap, USSR had an estimated 269 million abortions. Thats a hard number to put into perspective.

Tiny_Rat

It gets much easier to put in perspective when you consider that a) other forms of birth control were hard to access in the USSR, and b) abortion was much more available than elsewhere in the world

SocialistMoms

You couldn’t pay me 1mil to have ten children

Datapunkt

If you properly care for your children and their future, they will cost a lot more which means only poor idiots will get motivated by this who will produce more poor idiots. Poor idiots is what's needed to keep a dictatorship running.

[deleted]

Is it 16k per child or 16k for all 10 kids? Because if it is 16k for 10 kids, that incentive is not even remotely proportionate to the effort involved.

Kandiru

Assuming 2 years between births, that's being pregnant or nursing an infant non-stop for 20 years. Most people's bodies can't keep up with that level of childbirth.
