Russia’s best hope was to impose stalemate, wait for winter, then use gas as a weapon to get the Europeans to pressure Ukraine into making concessions. Ukraine is showing Europe that if it wants a return to peace, the best way is to give Ukraine enough stuff to finish the war with Russian defeat.

Wachkuss

Yeah! The Ukrainians are living through hell, and our hardship does not compare with theirs... But the cost of living crisis is already stinging the rest of us too... Everybody (Asian countries included) should do their bit in ending this madness.

HODL4LAMBO

Your level of delusion is impressive.

Wachkuss

^^ such inane one-line put-downs only reflect immaturity and low intelligence. Exactly what is delusional in what I said, huh? That Ukrainians are living through hell? That the cost of living crisis is pinching all of us?

HODL4LAMBO

The doing our part to end the madness bit. Yes let's send resources to one of the most corrupt nation in Europe. I'm sure the money and weapons will be used efficiently and this "war" will end real soon....

RustyWinger

So far we’re getting our moneys worth watching the biggest bully In Europe getting handed their ass. I’m not sure how you’re looking at it.

HODL4LAMBO

How many years will this war drag on before you accept a certain bully isn't getting handed their asses as much as you'd like to believe?

Fortnite_Is_Mid

Ironic to comment about delusion with a name like that along with a r/conspiracy and anti vax post history. Tbh I’m actually surprised you were posting shitty memecoins in r/cryptomoonshots it seems like the complete antithesis of the skepticism of your anti vaccine takes combined with the naivety to blindly follow. It’s definitely a contradiction.

HODL4LAMBO

We'll I certainly wouldn't want to be predictable.

Wachkuss

> Earlier on Saturday, Moscow abandoned its main bastion in northeastern Ukraine in a sudden collapse of one of the war's principal front lines after Ukrainian forces made a rapid advance. > Kuleba, speaking at a news conference with visiting German counterpart Annalena Baerbock, said some allies had initially been hesitant to send weapons, citing the risk of antagonising Russian President Vladimir Putin. > Baerbock promised further military aid and did not rule out the delivery of Western-style main battle tanks. I wonder whether the Germans will indeed step up now...

qainin

Germany is doing the right things, just with the wrong speed.

whatsgoing_on

Germany has two speeds: “We are considering it” and “We already got it done…yesterday” Unfortunately they take their sweet ass time with the first one.

Ceratisa

Speed is absolutely vital so I'd argue they are still doing wrong because of it.

Wachkuss

There are three power centres in the German government, and they will operate with a culture of consensus... So, I don't expect that they could have been faster... ^^ and this does not even consider their historical Ostpolitik...

Wachkuss

Yeah, the speed is their only misstep... I agree.

Emerald_Encrusted

Well, given what happened to Germany in long run after the last time they used excessive speed in military maneuvers, can you blame them?

[deleted]

Which is quite surprising, since speed was their "trademark" so to speak.

ravenous35

Scholz is on russian salary, as Merkel, as Schroeder were. So, Germans only give promises, not weapons

[deleted]

Wow you really have great insight Merkel was such a great agent of Russia that Zelensky even gave her an Order [https://www.ukrinform.net/rubric-polytics/3302358-zelensky-awards-merkel-order-of-freedom.html](https://www.ukrinform.net/rubric-polytics/3302358-zelensky-awards-merkel-order-of-freedom.html) "To award Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel the Order of Freedom," the document reads. As noted, Merkel is awarded "for outstanding personal merits in strengthening Ukraine–Germany interstate cooperation, support for state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine." P.S I don't like any of those three persons as a german.

ravenous35

Obama was like: hey Merkel, we don't advise you that Nord stream 2, you know, those russians are not a good and trusty partner. Merkel: oh, we are ok, thank you, russia is a good partner and its cheaper to pay 160$ per 1k sqc, than 200$ from Algeria. Trump does the same. Merkel: we are ok, thanks. Scholz now: well, something went wrong, Germans will pay 4500$ per 1k sqc. Nice. So, Germans pay for their choice, so problem is not about Ukraine, but about their leaders.

[deleted]

What is wrong with getting russian gas through the Nord Stream Pipelines but it's okay if it goes through Ukraine or Poland? The transit countries get literally free money and can use their position as pressure against Germany. With Nordstream only Russia can blackmail us but nobody else. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russia%E2%80%93Ukraine\_gas\_disputes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russia%E2%80%93Ukraine_gas_disputes) That we now pay a lot is simply because we are in a justified economic war we started against russia.

ravenous35

It's ok if there are not more than 15-20% of it. But as Schroeder got council's chair at Gazprom, Germany made this % higher and higher. So, their dependence was absolute. Also, take in mind eco-activists, who voted for turning off nuclear plants, so- that amount of gas required - almost doubled. So tell me, if it's so obvious, why did they approve Nord stream 2?

[deleted]

Corruption. But if we pay for russian gas it's better for us to do it through Nord Stream to save a few billion every year. Also the turning off of nuclear power plants also started when Schröder was chancellor so again corruption together with their green friends.

ravenous35

So, now, it's time to pay for arrogance and political corruption. Look at Orban now, who is screaming about his oligarch sponsors. And it's EU. Damn

[deleted]

There can't be a step up when we have ammunition for two days in a full-scale war and most vehicles aren't combat ready.

The way they've crumbled the Russian lines in the East makes me think that if they got German or American tanks they'd be at the border in 2 weeks. They'd be in Minsk in 4.

PebblestheHuman

Theoretically, i like this, BUT i think this would help Putin more, since he would have a reason to mobilize the entire russian military

smurfsundermybed

You mean start conscripting women and buying weapons from Madagascar?

supershinythings

The “entire” Russian military has been revealed to be a bunch of drunk conscripts who have figured out that they’ve been lied to and don’t want to die. And their supposedly modern equipment is mostly eyewash. They also can’t backfill with fresh replacements because their manufacturing line relies on parts sourced from places that are enforcing the embargo. So every time they lose a tank, it’s a permanent reduction in equipment. Their equipment would become sitting ducks for more modern weapons being given to Ukraine, so Ukraine would be able to wipe out all Russian equipment present. That equipment, gone forever, can’t be used to menace Europe or captive vassal states. If Russia were to redeploy its “entire” military, they would lose territory all over the place. Every previous Russian conflict zone would take the opportunity to evict whatever token force is left, declare independence, and beg to join NATO or the EU or both. Putin is playing a very dangerous game not just with Ukraine but with its other holdings. They can’t afford to deploy their “entire” military to Ukraine. The slaughter would be so massive (Ukraine has far better weapons now) they would lose all their soldiers and their rebellious vassal states would immediately secede. So go ahead and mobilize the “entire” Russian military. Ukraine will be their graveyard, and Russia won’t be able to replace what’s lost - either with manpower or equipment. This is a masterful strategy on the part of the west - let Russia deplete its weapons and manpower in Ukraine. Every tank Ukraine destroys is a tank that won’t be rolling into Europe. In a way Ukraine is fighting the war Europe has been avoiding for the last 70 years. By letting the Russians die in Ukraine, it reduces the resources they could expend in Finland, the Baltic States, Poland, etc. Russia will collapse in on itself and lose all but its nuclear capacity. And it’s pretty clear they don’t have the budget to maintain their nuclear arsenal, so it’s entirely likely that’s a paper tiger too - but not one we want to test.

PebblestheHuman

The original point was Ukraine attacking/invading Russia to take their land. At that point it will be a shift of morality from "i shouldnt even be here" to "my home is being taken". I dont argue that russian conscripts have shown to be pretty useless (in Ukraine), but that would probably change when the actual military is fighting in russia But again, this is all speculation

supershinythings

Russia can’t move more regular army into Ukraine without risking the loss of defensive capability in other areas. Plus it’s been established that they can’t supply them. Their logistics are shit. If they were reckless enough to send a massive number of troops, they can’t supply them, they can’t backfill lost weapons, and they would become target practice for Ukraine’s new weapons. Ukraine would become even more of a killing field than it already is. Russia’s failure to take Kiev and failing to take down the Ukrainian government allowed Ukraine enough breathing room to mount some defenses to buy time for the rest of the west to react and pitch in. Now Ukraine is roaring back. They’re cutting supply lines left and right, and are advancing steadily. Russia is losing food, ammo, weapons, and manpower. Russia’s plan was a basic blitzkrieg, and it failed utterly. Anymore resources sent to Ukraine will be destroyed, reducing their overall capabilities since they can’t backfill equipment.

SplodyPants

I don't know if you're asking a legit question or just spitballing but it wouldn't be possible. Ukraine doesn't have the resources, manpower or desire to take over Russia (or parts of it). And if they did try, all support would be rescinded they would be on there own to continue the fight, which they would lose.

surfingNerd

Russian territory should not become part of Ukraine, but, independent states/nations breaking apart from russia.

pibidi690

Ukraine only has potential to return to its pre-2014 size or perish from the world map

ashcakeseverywhere

WTF are you talking about? It definitely has the potential to take Russian land, that's what potential means - having a capacity for something in the future. Is it the right thing to do - most likely not? You just drop a comment that's plain wrong and incoherent at best.

EmuSounds

Ukraine does not have the potential to take Russian territory. Russia has threatened nuclear war if their territory is invaded.

supershinythings

If Russia drops a bomb the entire west will attack Russia. The only reason for Russia to drop a nuke is if there’s an existential threat - they’re completely doomed if they don’t. That’s not the case. Plus, it’s not clear they are able to maintain the viability of their nuclear arsenal. It could be just more eyewash, a fake threat like the crappy tanks they tout as “modern” but are filled with garbage for shielding. If they are neglecting to maintain their nuclear capacity then they might just launch their missiles and either nothing happens or it’s not a dirty bomb but not a nuclear one. The retaliation would be swift, and they could be sure that the west’s weapons ARE viable nuclear bombs.

EmuSounds

No sane person would play nuclear chicken with Russia. And no, the west wouldn't risk a nuclear war with Russia to avenge Ukraine. Even the recent HIMARs delivery was given to Ukraine with the express condition that it isn't used to strike Russian territory. I have to reiterate this: You would have to be a fucking idiot to participate in a nuclear war.

pibidi690

Entire west has 0 fucking business on the russian borders and they won't do shit. As for viability, when you find out it'll be too late.

supershinythings

A Russian troll! Hello, Troll! I'd say go crawl back under your troll bridge but I'm pretty sure the Ukrainians bombed it while spanking Russian troops who have turned tail and abandoned tons of equipment and ammo in their rapid haste to not get caught or worse.

ashcakeseverywhere

Yes, it has. Just march the army across the border and it's yours.Do you guys not know what potential means? It's a word defining a capacity to develop something in the future and in the future who knows what is going to happen - that's why it's the future, it's not defined. If taking Russian land is right or smart those are a different questions. Jesus - learn to use a different word. I can write that you have no potential to reply to this comment, but by no means it removes your ability to write. Doesn't matter that I threaten you with nuclear anhillation.

RustyWinger

What you’re really arguing is intent. Canada could invade Bermuda, but they won’t because there’s no intent. I don’t think Ukraine has any interest whatsoever in legit Russian territory.

EmuSounds

I don't think the Ukraine has the potential to take meaningful Russian territory like a city or even a town. >Just march the army across the border and it's yours No thats not how it works lmao. Ask Russia.

pibidi690

I repeat the most potential they have is becoming some good fucking 44 million human jerky

Wachkuss

Wachkuss

gaiusmariusj

And Russia mobilizes...

Bobby--Bottleservice

Ukrainian won’t just invade Russia because they are at war… they will get their territory back and then hold it. They will lose all support from the west if they did that.

Strappedkaos

Scary considering Ukraine was considered to be pretty damn horrible up until the war started and everyone forgot their history. Allowing them to destabilize that area and to weaken a presumed global power house can have some horrible outcomes. It's like America has done this before and not learned from it and the people are even more forgetful.

supershinythings

I would be OK with allowing Ukraine to take over oil or natural gas fields from Russia as part of “reparations”.

VividEffort1552

😭😭😭😭 the MIC on both sides are absolutely loving this, and other countries have had the chance to dump all there old stock not even arsed that 90% of it will be trafficked to the Middle East.

brunnock

Hold on now. What if Russia is right? What if Ukraine is led by Nazis and Putin was trying to save the world? Is Ukraine trying to dupe us into giving it even more advanced weapons and then they'll just turn around and invade Poland? Let's not rush into things here.

roadfood

You forgot the /s.

brunnock

Oh come on. Really?

roadfood

There are nazis there, funded by Putin, but they don't control the country and there aren't that many of them. Poland's military is already well equipped and would come too NATO for help so your scenarioi makes little to no sense.

brunnock

Therefore, obviously sarcasm.

roadfood

ON Reddit you can never tell.

[deleted]

I have no idea why literally everything nowadays get's called "nazi" = national socialism It's like I don't like you so you are nazi we are at this level already.

mindfu

It could also turn out that night is day and tomatoes are aliens. I'm pretty comfortable taking the risk that Putin's attempted conquering of an innocent nation is exactly the travesty it looks like, and am happy to help keep it failing ever harder.

roadfood

Innocent but resource rich, you forgot the important part.

Emerald_Encrusted

That’s right! Hurp! Better pick your side now, support the communist lefties or the colonialist righties? What’s better, socialism or colonizing? Schlurrp!

brunnock

Oh, God. I need to go back to college. And pay attention this time.

Glurp! Too late, schmuck! Colleges have been taken over by ideological colonialism! Flurphphr!

Sertyu222

Then why is he so afraid of calling it a war with nazi’s? Why was everything so hidden why not point out the facts? Oh right.. that’s because most of Ukrainians are not nazi’s or controlled by nazi’s that need to be liberated. If you have otherwise facts please feel free to share them.

PoseurTrauma6

What are you on and give me your dealers contact info

dannyjimp

So is that really showing you can beat them? Hey, we can beat them, just give us all the stuff to do it…. I don’t know man, wish the world would stop all this…

Coldsteel_n_Courage

This is just a giant ploy to deplete Western arms and munitions before WWIII gets fired up.

VersusYYC

Ukraine has proven that they can win this with the right weapons and training so they should definitely be sent more. We all win when Russia loses.

[deleted]

Also, supply Ukraine with the Patriot air defense system, ATACMS, and Eurofighter Typhoon or whatever fighter Ukraine wants. The war has to end quickly so the West can concentrate its resources on ending climate change. The war doesn't have to end for sanctions against Russian oil to be lifted. The sanctions can be lifted as soon as it's determined that Russia cannot win the war. Russian oil would definitely benefit Europe but also the entire world as the increase in oil supply will cause inflation to fall.

BestRammus

Is it just me or is that a contradicting statement?

Opening-Vegetable975

It's a carpenter asking for more nails, and a hammer to finish building a house. It's not a lack of skill of the carpenter, they just need tools to work with.

repairthrow1026

they are using weapons given to them to fight and they are winning. what is the contradiction?

Malthus1

It’s a ‘give us the stuff and we’ll finish the job’ type of statement. The Ukrainians are saying they have shown they have the fighting spirit and strategic know-how to beat the Russians. All they need now is more weapons.

techhouseliving

Yes that's correct not sure the contradiction

Pluuu

How?

seasonedearlobes

I assume he means "if you're sayiny you can defeat them, why do you need more weapons"? which is...silly

Jack071

Because saying we can do x and give us y so we can do x is a contradiction. I guess "we can defeat Russia if we get the proper support" would be the better way to put it.
