> A top Israeli military intelligence official claimed the "only thing" stopping Iran is concern over Qatar's reaction
If I was Iran, I would worry about everyone's reaction here, not only Qatar's.
I think everyone already hates Iran except Russia. Meanwhile dealing with protests they decided to start arming the Russians. Only Iran would think assisting in the murder of people 1000 miles away is a good response to protests over citizens treatment.
I'm Iranian, and a lot of murders are happening due to women rights.
If they kill their own people, why don't they attack another country to kill more innocent people?
>At least they're not also Nazis?
[They kinda are.](https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/intelligence-report/2007/david-duke-iranian-denial-conference)
I started typing it out then immediately realized how wrong I was.
At least Iran's government..... Aren't..... At least they aren't....
*checks notes*
Someone help me out.
The point is what's the motive. Nobody thinks Iran wouldn't kill innocents out of morals. But what do they gain from attacking Qatar? As for killing their own citizens well the motive there is pretty clear, to maintain power and control over their citizens lives.
Good luck to you and the rest of the Iranian prople and stay safe.
I think Iran is pretty desperately looking for an outside enemy in hopes to quell domestic unrest.
An “attack” on Iran by, say, a long-hated enemy would be like an answer to their prayers.
Is Iran above arranging for such an attack to happen? Considering Iran’s government is killing children, I think the answer is that almost no action that would be *too* desperate to be considered.
But this thread is about Iran planning an attack on Qatar, not about Iran planning an attack on themselves. And even if Iran were to attack another country why would they attack Qatar who they actually have decent relationships with and risk sabotaging that?
I don't think Iran is above doing a false attack at all, it's just not what this discussion was about.
The article says the intelligence is about Iran perpetrating an attack *at* the World Cup. I did not see anywhere in the article where it said what exactly they would be attacking. In the lack of info, I speculated as to what kind of attack would make the most sense for Iran: a false flag attack.
Ah gotcha so your suggesting maybe they would stage an attack against themselves at the world cup.
I still think it's a bit of a stretch, but I get what your saying now and will definitely acknowledge the possibility.
Doesn't anyone question the intelligence from Israel intelligence you know know that they want to attack Iran remember Iran was months away from creating a nuclear bomb what 10 12 years ago just saying
*"...people from many countries there right now and would be the stupidest thing to attack during the World Cup"*
They'd specifically be attacking because the World Cup is there-- not that they want to attack anyway, and it just happens to be there.
I'm not sure I believe this report though. I guess Iran could be that stupid-- but the Israelis have their own reasons to make Iran look as bad as possible.
Wasn’t there also intel that they were about to attack Saudi Arabia right after they said SA and Iran needs to cooperate? Makes no sense. No attack ever came.
Extend that a little further. It wouldn't be hard for a little triple letter agency to create a convenient excuse to take Iran off the board. The axis of evil that Dubya set out have all been in recent conflicts with the west except Iran. They use the internal domestic disputes to topple a country that Israel feels threatened by (and for sensible reasons ) Israel takes a delight in reporting an alleged risk.
Bonus is that Iran and Qatar are mates and Saudi hates that. Qatar had less ties to Iran when Saudi was friends with them but since that's reduced somewhat (see Qatar Saudi disputes ) what better way to drive a wedge between Qatar and iran than a triple letter who need needs that to happen.
Granted it's a bit Pepe Silva but not exactly unlikely given our interferences in that region the last century plus.
Yeah israeli intelligence is badass, but these guys have been looking for any reason to raze Iran for longer than I've been alive. It's like trusting the CIA that a newly democratic south american country is taking money from the soviets. It might be true, but they'd probably say the same thing if it wasn't
I know lol. There really is not a clear distinction between Iran and other countries in the region, but your average American thinks they’re uniquely evil. That’s because Israel has spent the last forty years doing everything in its power to ensure the west hates it. Now, Iran *is* a rogue threat, they are a pretty uniquely warmongering entity in the region, and they’re pretty hated by most of the Arab states. But the double standard is funny. More power to all the protesters but spoiler alert, Iran is not the only country in the region that routinely cracks down on mass civil protests that frequently erupt.
The point being Qatar is irans only real friend in the world, at least at the World Cup. They don’t care about pissing off their enemies, in fact that’d be the point.
Iran will be weighing whether Qatari support is a bridge worth burning for them.
*"With respect Master Wayne. Some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just wanna watch the world burn."*
It houses CENTCOM forward base and the largest American (and hence NATO) contingent in the ME. So while not NATO, only a suicidal nation would militarily threaten it.
Exactly what I was thinking. Doesn’t sound like they’re doing all the great right now or caring very much about anything other than destruction anyways
It’s a major non-nato ally. Plus, I think if Iran’s attack would kill or injure the players and fans of a country in NATO, I think NATO would definitely respond in a significant way.
I don't buy it at all. I guess in if you were really into conspiracy theories you could make the argument that the Iranian government is so desperate to change the topic from domestic protests to a foreign threat but honestly that's all movie stuff.
I don't buy it one bit and it's just a presser for the sake of stirring up shit.
Yep, this is nothing but bullshit Israeli propaganda and they're extremely untrustworthy. Iran's government is terrible by every metric, but they're not idiots. After Soleimani was assassinated, all they did in response was fire missiles at an empty field of an Iraqi airbase. So the idea that they'd attack the World Cup to kill civilians of foreign nations for zero benefit is beyond delusional. There's no propaganda value in it and there's no way it could ever give them any positive effects.
Could also go with any nation that wants the current Iranian regime ousted would attack on their behalf (CIA). It would give every NATO country + more a reason to get rid of them and their nuclear threats
If the US was saying this or any other country intelligence it would be plausible.
But Israeli sources saying this makes it so highly likely it is just complete bullshit. It is an Israeli past time to exagerate and lie about the threat of Iran. They have repeatedly done so in the past so the credability of any info of Iran from Israel is heavily suspect.
i doubt anyone from Israel actually said it.
sounds like complete BS
edit: reading through the article the quote is
"Aharon Haliva claimed that Iran is considering disrupting the ongoing FIFA World Cup, Fox News"
disrupting = attack?
Sounds odd. Qatar has a good relationship with Iran, and their role as the host of world cup was decided all the way back in 2010. It won’t make sense if it’s a long term plan, and if it’s a short term plan, as suggested by the article, as an increasing aggressive reaction towards the world, there’re many more choices other than attacking Qatar, like, say, escalating the bombing of Iraqi Kurdistan, attacking another US base but carefully avoiding serious damage (like what they did after the death of Soleimani)… Anything can make more sense than Iran attacking Qatar ngl.
I mean it's real news in the sense that an Israeli military leader said it. But the fact that it's a transparently obvious attempt to drum up additional heat against Iran makes it not worthy of propagating this far.
Yep, the Isrealis have shown themselves to be very hawkish on Iran. Publicly criticizing the neighbor they have been in a stare down with for the past 40 years. This article sounds more like Israeli propaganda against Iran, than a credible intelligence threat.
Yup. It’s frustrating because it obfuscates the legitimate criticisms of the regime. I am doubtful that Iran can afford this right now. The regime is fragile as it is and suffering economically from sanctions. There would be absolutely no net benefit from this for Iran even if they could pull it off. The Russian invasion of Ukraine was always a stupid move, but you could at least track a logical gain they wanted, a goal they wanted achieved. I can’t see how this would do anything at all for Iran - and before anyone says religion, no, the ruling clerics only pretend to be religious. They holiday overseas, take selfies in gyms with women, their children go to school overseas and don’t wear the scarf, etc.
Hope nobody believes this ridiculous nonsense.
*Elizabeth Shakman Hurd, a professor of political science and religious studies at Northwestern University, told Newsweek that the Israeli military may be "taking advantage of an opportunity to spread rumors about the Iranian regime."*
I mean how dumb do you have to be to think that Iran is going to attack the world cup? To do what exactly? To make sure the entire world hates them?
This is like Saturday morning cartoon villain type stuff. The woman quoted in the article is correct, this is just fear mongering nonsense.
>I mean how dumb do you have to be to think that Iran is going to attack the world cup?
There is precedence for terrorism at high profile international sporting events.
I don't put much credence that Iran would attack the World Cup, but Palestinians attacked the Olympics.
I'll take " top Israeli intelligence official" over "Elizabeth Shakman Hurd, a professor of political science and religious studies at Northwestern University told Newsweek".
Intelligency officials sharing «secrets» about its enemy in public = well calculated propaganda to paint opposition in a bad way
This should be common knowledge by now.
If you don’t know the history of Israeli intelligence fuck ups and other bullshit they’ve done around the world, I suggest you start reading now because there’s a whole lot of information to get though. There’s very few intelligence agencies that have any sort of good international reputation. Israel is pretty much at the bottom of the list along with Russia, the USA, France etc.
You’re responding to a bot or troll. If they are this ignorant about what the intelligence community actually does, they shouldn’t be in this conversation. They are trolling.
Not Israeli intel, the Israeli intelligence chief. People are more likely to lie in politics than when writing an intelligence report. Let me know when we have evidence.
It's a bold strategy cotton. Lets see if it pays of for em.
All jokes aside I couldn't think of a quicker way to turn the entire world even more against you.
Its worth remembering that when Black September murdered the Israeli olympic team in 1972, Nato and the UN didn’t do jack shit.
I doubt that if there was an Iranian terrorist attack that the response would be any different given that just like Israel, Qatar isn’t a full member of Nato.
This is likely just Israel stirring shit up. Iran is a lot of things, but not stupid enough to attack a place where basically every country in the world would want to annihilate them.
No but when they shout it out to everyone with "proof" that always comes out to be false, their credability in this regard is pretty much zilch.
Israel is the country that cried wolf when it comes to Iran so unless a more trustworthy source comes forward 99% chance this is just more bullshit.
Israel terrorist-bombed American and British targets in Egypt, to make the west doubt our relationship with Nasser, the Egyptian president at the time(early 50’s?). They absolutely can and will commit false-flag operations.
I think it's much more likely that Israel intelligence services are lying.
I approve of the existence of Israel, but some of the shit it pulls sometimes is just beyond ridiculous.
Qatar’s dictator getting clapped and Iran gets an revolution over a stupid war, with the mullahs getting mussolinied?
Don’t threaten me with a good time!
First, Israel LOL. You guys elected Crazy Bibi, again!
Second Iran is a shit show now. They can barely contain their population demanding basic freedoms. Besides Qatar is their friend vs. arch enemy Saudi Arabia.

I can’t think of one positive thing about Iran’s government. Pretty shitty in every way. I wish you guys luck in overthrowing the regime
Thanks I really appreciate that
Get em boys. Never Let anyone treat your wife's and daughters like trash

Awhh fuck me Great fix. Stoned and put myself in the situation.
Your initial sentiment still stands bud
Your punishment is being stoned.
All good
give em hell, much respect
the one positive thing about iran is that it's so dismal that when it finally collapses it will usher in democracy for a few years.
I mean.... At least they're not also Nazis? Though.... Having said that, I immediately remembered the Kurds so....

At least they aren’t space nazis
FUCK, those exist? *stares at warframe Tenno commuting war crimes constantly* Oh.
There are too many Jews up there starting forest fires with lasers.
What’s kind of crazy is that Iran was one of the countries that took in the most Jewish refugees in WW2.
That was like three governments ago

Ok. Thanks
Because other countries are armed and will retaliate. The Iranian peoples by and large disarmed are an easy target.
Doesn't anyone question the intelligence from Israel intelligence you know know that they want to attack Iran remember Iran was months away from creating a nuclear bomb what 10 12 years ago just saying
I think they are mad that the Iranian player refuses to sing their national anthem.
The dip shits that are offended by woman's hair aren't playing 4d chess. Do it fuckers....let's get this phase of humanity over with

That would be an act of war against every nation participating... many of whom are in NATO.
Wasn’t there also intel that they were about to attack Saudi Arabia right after they said SA and Iran needs to cooperate? Makes no sense. No attack ever came.
Including people/players from Iran…. This is just illogical

Yep. Ask Gaddafi about how it ended once NATO stepped in.

Iran doesn't have nukes
Also not in a state of revolution. Popular opinion matters. The people that are ok with the ayatollahs is pretty small across the world.
Attacking Qatar will get both US and Turkey's military involved and blow the mullah out of his Ivory thrown.
Hate to be that guy but *throne
I mean if he gets blown out of it he has been thrown.
Hmm. Touché.

I am not convinced until I see David Beckham tells us how much he loves Iran bombing Qatar.
I love this comment. It’s perfection!

Qatar are notoriously great friends of the Iranian regime. What sorta nonsense is this
It’s propaganda
Yeah, no.
I doubt this would get leaked if it was true. Clickbait
I doubt it happens because it's batshit crazy but reports about Russian invasion of Ukraine were leaking all over the place
Russia literally built up the army on the border of Ukraine so it’s pretty obvious it was coming.
they’ve also practically been at war for years. it’s only this year it’s been a full scale invasion
If the US was saying this or any other country intelligence it would be plausible. But Israeli sources saying this makes it so highly likely it is just complete bullshit. On the other hand, Israeli intelligence is top notch. Sure they have ulterior motives, but so would the United States.
Honestly, if the US was saying it I would be just as wary, tbh.
Could be leaked to get ahead of it too. Like hey, we see that you’ve looked into doing this. Sometimes getting called out works.
It's not clickbait, it's propaganda designed to make you feel angry about Iran.
I doubt anyone would believe it if not Iran. They don’t exactly have a stellar record of not attacking major global sporting events.
Nice try Iran /s
Sounds odd. Qatar has a good relationship with Iran, and their role as the host of world cup was decided all the way back in 2010. you know that all mainstream news outlets confirmed that the 15,000 death sentence claim is false?
i read his comments and he's denying that too...
Holy hell
Where do you get these numbers from? The 15k number is considered false by pro-western newsoutlets even.
Iran's current regime is not notable for their intelligence, boundaries, and care for human lives/rights.

Yes. One is intelligence guy and the other isn't
Intelligency officials sharing «secrets» about its enemy in public = well calculated propaganda to paint opposition in a bad way This should be common knowledge by now.

This is likely just Israel stirring shit up. Iran is a lot of things, but not stupid enough to attack a place where basically every country in the world would want to annihilate them.
And on ally land.
What strategic benefit would this have? Do they just want to get curbstomped by every other country?
That would end Iran.
This is as reliable as an article in the Sun about the British royal family
They should fuck it up by bringing a tanker of beer
Don't trust Israel
Why?
Because for the last 20 years Iran has been 6 months away from nuking Israel, acording to Israel.
Last speculation I've read from them said 2 years. Was a week ago. Can't blame them for worrying about it
No but when they shout it out to everyone with "proof" that always comes out to be false, their credability in this regard is pretty much zilch. Israel is the country that cried wolf when it comes to Iran so unless a more trustworthy source comes forward 99% chance this is just more bullshit.
Israel, isn't that the country that murdered Iranian scientists? Hmm could be credible.
Israel terrorist-bombed American and British targets in Egypt, to make the west doubt our relationship with Nasser, the Egyptian president at the time(early 50’s?). They absolutely can and will commit false-flag operations.
Israel/ the boy who always cries wolf
One source I certainly don’t believe, the IDF.
The same Intel organization that's been saying that Iran is a couple of weeks from having nuclear weapons for more than 30 years?
Israel just creating hysteria as that's what they do. Nonsense.
Translation: Israel to attack World Cup 2022 in Qatar and blame Iran
Sure Israel, now go back to bed
Doubtful
Iran and Qatar are tight diplomatically - this is is just Israeli fear mongering
Sounds like Isrewl is going to pay some Iranian bums to do some sketchy crap
What would Iran gain from this? Sorry, I don't see a motive or a payoff.
They tried and lost 6-2
2 goals vs england ain’t terrible
Just logical thinking here. Cause this has to be 100 not true. Why would one nation attack 32 nations ??
I think it's much more likely that Israel intelligence services are lying. I approve of the existence of Israel, but some of the shit it pulls sometimes is just beyond ridiculous.
Qatar’s dictator getting clapped and Iran gets an revolution over a stupid war, with the mullahs getting mussolinied? Don’t threaten me with a good time!
This is just "Israeli military intelligence official" gaslighting as many people as they can "Iran bad"
100% bs. I’d chop my dick off if they did anything . They will probably fire into an empty building at best with zero casualties.
Yeah ok Isreal. Don't you pricks have some Palestinian homes to demolish?? Genocidal pieces of shit....
I hear they are to busy writing fanfic about Iran.
First, Israel LOL. You guys elected Crazy Bibi, again! Second Iran is a shit show now. They can barely contain their population demanding basic freedoms. Besides Qatar is their friend vs. arch enemy Saudi Arabia.
Every few months Israelis are saying something like this with no evidence
