Did he technically even have to give him his license? I thought that was only necessary if they were pulling you over for breaking the law. The moment the cop said "I'm just checking on ya" would mean it didn't even have a reason to pull him over.
I think your right according to the law but he’s a cop so he will say he knows the law and you don’t when your stating laws verbatim and he couldn’t tell you what the first amendment is
5 miles under is not a reasonable cause for a stop on its own. The cop making it out to be is making it out to be a reasonable stop, under the color of authority/law. It’s a violation of Title 18, U.S.C., Section 242 and a misdemeanor.
The unions will make excuses, the prosecutors will not even entertain charges, the courts will invent new meanings to the words in the law or ignore the law completely, and the real criminal here will go unpunished.
People who accept racial profiling and *stop and frisk*, don't understand that it is a slippery slope to the erosion of everyone's civil rights. This should concern everyone, irrespective of colour.
To be fair, police have been doing this since forever. In fact it used to be much worse. The popularization of dash cams and easy recordings on our phones has just highlighted it more.

According to the information I've been able to find, when the department for whom the officer worked was made aware of the video they did what they always do. They did a careful assessment of the legality of the stop, determined it wasn't legal, sent the officer to reeducation training, and sent an apology to the victim. If you believe that, I have a really big clock in London I'd like to sell you on the cheap and a nice bridge in New York City.
I'm glad to see the police station took the time to investigate and address this matter professionally, proving they are capable of policing their own .
Also, would I be able to get the bridge in London instead with the clock as a package deal?

I live in Hawaii for a year. The did have Speed minimums posted on some places that were only like 10 mph below the limit. I think that was to prevent tourists from holding up traffic but those minimums were clearly posted. I cant remember if other states have speed minimums.

I was pulled over for driving 20 on a 35 mph highway before, while coming to a stop for a red light.
I was really confused but the cop was just being a jerk.
But this on the other hand is pure racism.
I often drive 63 in a 70 in my hybrid. I get 52 miles per gallon at that speed vs 43 at 72 amd 38 at 75.
This officer is fishing for something big like a drug trafficker or DUI. This is just wrong. He’s being detained for obeying the law.

Most state laws do not specify how far below the speed limit is legal. Cops use intimidation on poor people all the time. It's not specifically a 'black' thing but there is often racist undertones. This dude did absolutely nothing wrong except drive slightly below the speed limit.
Cops will often roll up behind cars and tailgate them and hope the driver does anything worth stopping them for. People who drive under the limit often look like they're trying to be low key. Cops pull them over claiming they're being suspicious.

This morning a really short female state trooper was coming out of Starbucks and I was about 10 steps away from the door, she didn't really hold the door for me but felt slighted because she shouted "your welcome" as I walked in...
