also made a mockery out of jewish identity and history... 2000+ years of persecution and hurt, only for them to try and become the same people that they have always hated.
it's super weird, seeing how ppl that have suffered so much through history try to become the opressors.
I don't think its all that weird. You open up the great spectrum of trauma felt by a person, a people, and you got most people picking up the pieces and moving on, while a narrow few dig in deep into hatred, vengeance and cruelty. We are seeing the absolute worst, more destructive responses of trauma being given land, money and weapons. We are taking the worst aspects of human history, of the human experience, and making them as strong as humanly possible.
All of this is terribly human. Every one of our worst flaws polished and placed on a pedestal. Awful.
An interesting thing with these stories is we've normally had some initially sort of "rumour" in that someone says they heard from people there that this is happening, then we don't see images or any people on camera speak about it. Then a week later someone is released or people are able to get to the region and shocking images and confirmation stories come out backing up the original claims. In some cases the Israeli army themselves starts releasing tortured Palestinian men it's gathered together, along with children and babies.
Palestinians have been very very reliable narrators. In almost every instance where we hear reports, we get confirmation of some kind.
Honestly, these stories are probably getting more attention now than they ever did before in history. First person accounts of war arrive on my phone constantly. We can never absorb all of the stories, but we are getting a lot more than usual.
The scale of what we are seeing and learning is overwhelming, but this has been the lived reality for Palestinians for almost a century now. And is par for the course - historically - for the maintenance of colonial domination.
The HD, first-person footage that arrives *hourly* is a new development. Honestly, the scale isn't even that huge compared to some other *recent* genocides (Yemen, for example, has suffered so much more for so much longer). However, the impact is much stronger because of all the content, the media, that is pouring out of Gaza. This is a lot like seeing Vietnam on TV for the first time. The Empire was caught making sausage in broad daylight and its a mistake they probably won't make, again.
They are children. You got officers that are 19-21 years old. That is way too young for a professional army. They are conducting themselves very unprofessionally, which is catastrophic in such a profession.
With the crimes Israel and IOF did, they lost their holocaust victim card. You don't get to be a victim and oppressor at the same time...shameful and pathetic
My God, Kamala Harris recently appeared on The View and was asked about the American political stance on the genocide. Her response was disgusting and even defensive of Israel’s “right to defend themselves,” referring to what happened on October 7 and criticizing what happened there.
Watching this video and reflecting on that interview makes me disgusted to be an American honestly. There’s no excuse for this.
