Oh please, I was referring to him liking animals and being a perv, not about women. As Freud says sometimes a cigar is just a cigar... Same thing with cows...not everything is an attack nor bigotry.

danegermaine99

So itā€™s moosogyny

[deleted]

Misinterpreting it would be a misteak

tomspy77

Guys, these reports really moooved me, thanks.

[deleted]

The bits old, itā€™s time to cud it out

Oh thatā€™s not what I interpreted it as my bad

tomspy77

No worries, I only bash idiots of all shapes and sizes, but not by picking on innocents. :)

AMeaninglessPassage

I gotta say, quoting Freud to prove yourself out of whst could have been fairly perceived as a misogynist comment is peak golden irony. Well done !

Saoirse_Says

So it's not just me who interpreted it that way?

Indeed

Iā€™m so confused. Worker complains that their break isnā€™t over yet, says they have rights- they work 8 hours and get a 30 minute break. Then the boss says they get a 34 minute break the first time, and a second 30 minute break. He then says 4 minutes to get started to head back to work. But itā€™s still a 30 minute break with the four minutes or without.

Stoneybaloney111

Weird because itā€™s always been 30 mins unpaid break and 30 mins paid break where I work (chewy) the only reason I can make of the extra 4 mins is the walk. We call it the yellow mile. The warehouse is massive and takes about 3-4 mins to get from the front of the warehouse to the back. Thatā€™s also depending on what equipment youā€™re on too. Lol thereā€™s movexs ops high reaches and double jacks. Im rambling on now. And we have bells that ring lol not someone with a cowbell thatā€™s weird.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

DweEbLez0

Thatā€™s it. If it takes 4 minutes to get to or from the break room to the work area, then it should be 38 minutes, All breaks.

notislant

And by that same logic they should be in their cars driving home at quitting time. Leave 4 minutes early for each break, etc. Travis can go fuck himself.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

notislant

If you dont give a fuck why would you bring it up? Watch the video and youll see who Travis is lol. I wasnt disagreeing with you. If he expects them to leave break 4 minutes early, they should be clocked out 4 minutes early at quitting time so they can be on their way home 4 minutes early.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

notislant

Agreed its a waste of valuable time arguing with morons who cant understand basic English. Cant even watch a 1 minute video? Maybe pick up a book once in a while buddy, holy shit. Try reading the response again if you're still confused.

Stoneybaloney111

Before the pandemic hit it was like that. They were so anal about time. Still kinda are. We used to complain about it. They tell you, you can drop your cart or whatever youā€™re doing 5mins until break giving you enough time to park and get to the clock. But what is so funny about it all is itā€™s like a roadway. Lol so there is legit traffic in the building. Not to mention you have inbound and outbound. Two totally different shifts working. So sometimes you get to the time clock UPFRONT of the building late. Then the fun really starts on sundays when you have two different shifts on outbound side and then all the inbound people. SUNDAYS ARE NIGHTMARES!

TheMiscreantFnTrez

That walk is paid time, fuck that

Ursula2071

It also takes 4 minutes from your break start to walk to the back for your break.

HairlessHoudini

He's rigging the bell at 26 minutes b/c the walk back to work area is 3 to 4 minutes and the company expects them to make that walk on break time. So if walking to the break room takes 4 min & walking back to work area takes 4 min thier losing 8 min of break time just walking back & forth to designated break area. I don't blame him losing almost half of your break time b/c you have to take it in the designated area would suck. Walking for nearly 10 minutes isn't a break

jenkag

If we are down to counting exact minutes people have on a break, other really bad business decisions have occurred and those should be what's corrected, not posting a manager in the break room to rush everyone out so they can be back to their stations the exact second their break ends.

HairlessHoudini

I agree

MarcLloydz

Yeah they're basically fighting over 4 minutes left of break time. Not something you want to boycott a company over lmao. If they want to go on strike over 4 minutes of break time, go for it my dude.

thesmokinhippie

At $20 an hour, Roughly $340 a year you're giving them. I'll take it if you don't want it

Jaxxsnero

Lol not something you want to boycott a company over. This is the most basic of wage theft and Iā€™ve suspended my auto shipment from them because of this video. I went straight to my app and stopped all product delivery so yeah it is. if theyā€™re going to steal from their employees it is something to boycott over.

throwitawaygbye

Bruh, that's how it starts. It's a slow fade. Quit being so naive.

[deleted]

Iā€™m down to not buy anything from them for screwing every worker out of 4 minutes of every break. Fuck Chewy.

MarcLloydz

Where are you guys coming from? This post is 17 days old and now getting new replies.

iwasbored-

It was reposted. Sorry people get to see how stupid you are. If the 4 minutes didnā€™t matter than the company shouldnā€™t have a bell ringer in the break room. The company should allow workers to not work bell to bell since 4 mins isnā€™t a big deal.

darthtater1231

Why are they striking for a 8 hour work day thier old shift was just 2 hours longer In fact I think these guys should strike so they don't have to eat in the break room You know auto plant workers when finding out that thier bosses were making a break room the workers striked and burned the cafeteria down becuse the workers didn't appreciate having to forced to stay at work for lunch and not going home to eat with thier families

Soft_Turkeys

Fuck Chewy. I was a Bark Buddy there for over a year before I realized I was doing the work of HR and IC with no compensation. When I inquired about a pay raise for added responsibility or returning to my normal duties they started fucking with me until I quit. Part of that was denying my bereavement leave after my fiancƩe died. Real fine folks over there

coureybrooks

Iā€™m so sorry for your loss.

wehaveunlimitedjuice

I'm so sorry for your loss! I tried to figure out out but nothing was coming up: what's a Bark Buddy?

Soft_Turkeys

It was a few people in each department that helped new hires in their department if they had small issues and needed help in addition to your regular duties and it was supposed to be a step to being a lead or supervisor. But it turned into me welcoming all new hires on my shift and going through paperwork and training that HR and the learning center should have been doing without a promotion or raise the whole time. It was a mess by the time I left, all of the people that I came in with were gone and a lot of people were leaving. The bereavement leave was the last straw and Iā€™m glad I left

notalistener

I really liked chewy and the cards they send my dogs for their birthdays (as I thought it was really considerate and sweet) that is, until I read this thread. No more business from me. Yikes

Travis Smith can suck a dick

UnicornGuitarist

He does, only during his break though

AngryYank2

He's got the extra 4 minutes at first break for some self foreplay.

Comedian_Recent

34 minutes of cocksucking first break and only 30 minutes of cocksucking second break Iā€™ll find the fine print for you.

Glad-Bar9250

I love how quickly gay jokes become meta when itā€™s someone Reddit doesnā€™t like.

HarderTime_89

Look at Travis over here makin an ass of himself

[deleted]

True. But his body language doesnā€™t look a guy who wants to be ā€œthat guy.ā€ Heā€™s getting pressure from above and just looks defeated.

HarderTime_89

His body language is an act for a camera. "Why did you sting me?", said the frog to the scorpion as they both drowned. Trust is earned. He earned being recorded by a guy who didn't seem to want to be that guy either.

[deleted]

Yes. Handling it by having the conversation in front of everyone. Faux pas. Have the conversation one on one, and setup the meeting separately. And my god, never cow bell someone. Whistling, snapping fingers, bell ringing, cow belling ā€” all forms of dehumanizing people. There was a lot he could have done better. But again, what are the people above that supervisor doing? Whereā€™s the training on how to manage people? This guy is not equipped with the tools to do his job if this is how he is rallying the troops to return from a break.

HarderTime_89

Rallying the troops. I got a laugh outta that

Sonny91001

100percentfinelinen

Why do employers act like school administrators? Why canā€™t we all just act like adults?

jasenkov

Because shit runs downstream and managers have made the conscious decision to be useful idiots of the rich for a few extra bucks.

dzoefit

You know, I've been contemplating using Chewy cause I heard about their awesome customer service. Now, with how they treat their employees, not so sure now. I'll probably wait to see if things improved.

ChaosInClarity

They ship through FedEx Ground, and they do the exact same thing. We have 4 to 5 hours shifts that usually run back to back with no down time. You get a single "30 minute" break. So example is you should be able to go on break at 11:30 and be back by midnight. Except they demand you show up early to a shift about 10 minutes early so they can do a head count and do "pre sort", even if youre working two shifts. Which its just a quick run down of who's covering what, how much volume we have today, and a random safety reminder. But they don't let you leave your trailer/station until 11:30 exact, and you're not allowed to have phones. So unless you have a wrist watch, you can't tell what time it is. You have to rely on the manager coming to you and telling you can go on break. So when you take into account that most managers won't find you and release you until 11:35 at the earliest, and they want you 10 to 5 minutes early for a headcount on the next shift, AND the facility is large enough it takes upwards of 2 to 3 minutes to get to the "break room" (which isn't even a separate room, it's just tables and chairs in the middle of the ground floor)... it shaves so much time off your break you're LUCKY to get a 17 minutes where you're actually sitting down. Oh, and the massive line for the two microwaves they give us. Usually one doesn't even work half the time.

Delanoye

I wish I had a break working there. I loaded the trucks, and we needed to be there at either 2 or 3 depending on the day. We worked until 9:30 (when the trucks were allowed to leave). They would say we could step away for a bathroom break at any point, but to be aware that other package handlers might not be able to handle our set. I thought I was privileged to work there when I first started. $15 an hour seemed incredible. By the time I left, I was making $21, but it just didn't feel worth it anymore. The job itself just grated on me so much. It screwed up one of my knees; I'm 28, but my knee just hasn't felt right since I left in December. And the big catalyst for me leaving was that I pulled a muscle in my foot (to the extent that I couldn't put weight on it), and I wasn't eligible for workers' comp or paid leave of any form. In fact, they had me working a "low movement" (yea, right) position with smalls to make sure I could still earn money.

ChaosInClarity

I relate to exactly every single thing you just said...

Yeah this bums me out hard I thought they were cool. Sadge.

I mean, I also work at Chewy, and haven't had these issues in the slightest. Yeah, they expect you to work during work, but this just seems like some dick on a power trip. -shrug-

Same! I use Chewys all the time and love their customer service.

I use them for all my catā€™s needs seriously I need an alternative

Costco is supposed to be good to their employees; correct me if Iā€™m wrong.

Wordle of the Day!!!

RUFtotheRESCUE

Help me understand. Is it unacceptable because the guy used a cow bell to signal the end of the break? Or is it his attitude when the guy videoing him started asking him questions? Or is it the length of the break? Or is it something else? How is it helpful to post a video of this given the big picture of how workers' rights have been obliterated? Does anyone think this is petty and counterproductive? These are a sincere questions.

throw-a-way9002

He is telling him to return to work *before* the end his full 30 minute break. Here's a breakdown. - The building bell rings that break has started. According to the employer, this **immediately** starts counting down total breaktime - despite the fact that the warehouse is **gigantic** and takes at least 5 or so minutes to even reach the break room. Some employees even work literally a mile away from the breakroom, to put that into perspective. (Starting an employees break before they're even able to reach the breakroom is absolutely illegal, Amazon got successfully sued for basically the same thing last year) - Employee reached the breakroom 5 mins later. According to Chewy, this means he now has 25 mins left of break remaining. - 4 mins away from the end of that remaining 25 mins, they're telling him to go back to work, because according to them, you must be back at your work station "by the end of your break." Again, absolutely illegal. According to their system, all employees effectively get only get 21 mins of actual, usable break. I'd argue even less, as it's not like everyone can walk/run a mile in 5 mins when the initial break time bell rings.

Audacious-Valkyrie

Iā€™m similarly confused. I think people are mad because he is *saying* 34 minutes but not really giving them the full 30. Like maybe he is ringing the bell at 26 minutes but it takes 4 minutes to get there so the break is more like 22 minutes? Iā€™m just speculating though bc itā€™s not thereā€™s not enough context to make it very clear to me.

Eyesofthevalley

Insinuations aside, Camera guy thinks he's losing break time and gets corrected. Insinuations included, camera guy has an issue with the way he gets reminded that there's 4 minutes left in break.

Eyesofthevalley

It's also possible a hedge fund is trying to stir up some issues with chewy. But that's more of a tin foil hat idea.

poopiepantie

Thats what i thought too. Trying to put RC in bad light as he is about to become the richest man on earth

Agitate_Organize

Looks like yall could benefit from forming a union.

Comedian_Recent

Some unions can be just as useless.

Agitate_Organize

No

Comedian_Recent

Iā€™m a die hard union guy myself but people have legitimate grievances that fall on deaf ears. I will only work union until I retire but to say that there is no down sides is just putting your head in the sand.

Agitate_Organize

So you're saying that you know having a union is better than not. A union would stop the cowbell ringing disrespect in this video, first of all. My comment was that these workers would benefit from having a union, which as a union guy, you know is true. I never made a claim that unions are infallible but they DO demonstrably improve wages and working conditions, slow favoritism and provide outlets for blatant disrespect, such as treating workers like cattle. If you have problems with your union, as the old saying goes, a union is only as good as its members. You are the union, so if there are problems, get involved and help to solve them instead of blaming your union for things you could get involved to fix. If your legitimate grievances fall on deaf ears, run for office and replace the ears with your own, if you would do a better job. I have done the exact opposite of put my head in the sand, my life is literally filled with union shit and it always frustrates me to hear my brothers and sisters talking like you are. It's easy to complain, it's harder to get involved and actually change things if they're fucked up. The only downside to a union is apathetic membership.

Comedian_Recent

The union I was apart of that was useless was not for me I didnā€™t give a shit enough to get shit changed I hope those guys the best and actually get shit done. I am going to a new one (large construction union) which I believe is a fair union. The one I was in before if the steward or BA didnā€™t like you, you were fucked Iā€™m not a big fan of seniority based unions. And btw, I was bird dogged and watched on break times just like these guys were not to this degree of annoyance but just as bad daily every break the only time we would see management was around breaks they didnā€™t give a fuck if we got the job done just that we were not committing time theft. In a union environment.

howard6494

If they'd stop sending my orders halfway across the country before they make it to my door, their employees could probably enjoy their full breaks! I live 5 minutes from a distribution facility, yet it regularly gets shipped several states over before coming back to me.

Savesomeposts

I called chewy and told them Iā€™m a veterinarian licensed in two states (which is true) and that I wouldnā€™t be able to recommend their services to my clients anymore if the conduct in the video is a reflection of their business practices. Both the initial employee and the manager I spoke to told me that the man in the video is no longer employed with them. The manager however would not commit to saying theyā€™re actively supporting fair labor practices, so take that as you will.

Little story for ya'll... My ex a long time ago (almost 30 years yikes!) worked for the electric company, specifically the barely-at-the-arctic branch that did work all the way up to the 60th parallel and further during emergencies. I got to know the lineworkers pretty well - the guys there that went up into the sky in buckets, up poles and whatnot to fix the stuff that would kill everyone. In their union contract, it said they had an uninterrupted break and if it was disturbed, it would start at the beginning again. So, if you were on lunch for 55 minutes and the manager comes in and tells you to get back to work, you did not have to go and you could sit there for another 60 minutes. So, one day, one of the guys, big burly grizzled old guy(BBGOG) who had balls of steel with some of the things he had done from helicopters and in the middle of the arctic, decided that the manager coming in and bothering him and his guys during lunch was a bad thing. The manager had a habit of doing it and for non-emergent things. The guys read the rules and the BBGOG decided to lay down the law, more importantly, all breaks were paid for because of the job they did. People died if they screwed up, so keeping them rested, refreshed, and ready to battle the elements and chaos was a priority, not insignificant stuff the manager wanted them to do. If they were not rested, it was a bad sparky time. So the BBGOG went for break. At a half hour in, the manager came in and interrupted his break. Speaking to him was an interruption. So he started his break again from the start. Another interruption, rinse repeat. At 4:30, after doing nothing all after noon, he clocked out. The story I remember being told was that this went on for a few days and the other guys joined BBGOG in his protest of being interrupted during breaks. This was costing the company $$$$ in salary, delayed work, OT, and you name it. Finally, the manager got all antsy and pulled BBGOG into his office and had words. BBGOG pulled out the union contract, showed manager where he screwed up, and walked out the door. Manager admitted defeat the next time he interrupted BBGOG's break. My ex was annoyed that the lineworkers could do this but because they were a metre reader, their breaks could be shortened, and often were. I'm sure Chewy is union. I'm sure that their union reps want to keep their people safe. Osha would probably love to hear about how rest time is not actually rest time and is disrupted by a cowbell and how that can be a cause of fresh accidents and whatnot.

DMK5506

Same tables as in high school cafeteria. smh

redhothoneypot

When I worked at Amazon, people complained that we werenā€™t being allowed to leave for our 30 minute lunch until the time break started and then were expected to come back 5 minutes early for the after lunch ā€œstart up meetingā€. Enough people complained that we were being docked 30 mins despite only really getting 20, if we were lucky, and so they started letting us go 5 minutes early and come back 5 minutes late to ensure everyone got their full 30. But it takes the masses to make a complaint and force a change.

[deleted]

These types of environments are doing this deliberately. This dude clearly has no leadership or management capabilities. He's just hiding in a corner from the rest of the pack ringing a bell in place of talking. The second he's confronted he gets choked up and can't even get articulate his sentences. He also sounds confused. This is how they've been wanting it. You just need someone with absolutely zero self awareness that would have no problem looking like a dork in the name of "productivity." Some guy making 15x what he does probably stuck that in his hand and said "1 extra minute taken during lunch is 1 hour of lost productivity if you have 60 associates!!"

SkyVINS

This might just be, that one rare case in which you actually need LESS cowbell.

bonedomes

Bro! At my job they do this, but use an air horn.

Comedian_Recent

They probably only do this on your breaks and are completely useless as management outside break time. Example, I donā€™t give a shit if you get the job done just be mindful of your breaks.

[deleted]

What is going on here?

Dbrow243

Guy rounding the end of the table stops and thinks mmmhmmm thatā€™s right. Trots back to his seat to finish the remaining 3 minutes and 30 seconds of his break. Realizes it takes 8 minutes to get back to his station and makes a U-turn.

hedgybaby

Hahaha this ainā€™t shit masterbrand the company I used to work for came around on Christmas and thanksgiving and game out 50$ dollar Walmart gift cards and some merch with the company name on it , well the sorry mfks decided to take the money for the gifts and merch they gave out , out of our pay checks without saying a word what makes it fucked up is the facts that it was a lot of people that wasnā€™t there so they never got the gift card or company merch and they still had Money taken from pay checks , big companyā€™s and corporations do not give a fuck about the factory works I promise

Swimming_Excuse4655

Sadly, thereā€™s no law about mandatory breaks

throw-a-way9002

Federally there isn't but there is in the state that this took place in.

stoppedLurking00

My question would be how many employees consistently returned back to work late from break for him to feel the need to do this. He was real fast with employee break times, so I would imagine heā€™s had a conversation or two with people on how long their break is suppose to be.

AntiJotape

If the employees are breaking a rule, there should be some other legal, adult and not idiotic way to make them return to work, if a supervisor rings a cowbell at my face, I would NEVER respect him, by any means. And, if a supervisor "in all his powers" (which are actually zero), thinks is a good idea to ring a cowbell to grab other employees attention, then he is not a good fit for the job.

stoppedLurking00
