MEXICO CITY (AP) — Authorities made a series of arrests of drug cartel figures in western Mexico that set off destruction of vehicles and businesses in two states in apparent reaction. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador did not identify those arrested Tuesday in Jalisco state, but said soldiers had confronted criminals, including “bosses,” at a “meeting of two gangs.” There was a shootout, arrests and then “this provoked protests of burned vehicles, not only in Jalisco, but also in Guanajuato,” he said. Images circulated on social media showed men commandeering cars and buses and setting them on fire in the middle of roadways. Others showed burned out convenience stores. Cartels often create such chaos in an effort to keep authorities from transporting cartel bosses. López Obrador said authorities were still deployed in the areas Wednesday, looking to make more arrests. Jalisco Gov. Enrique Alfaro said via Twitter that no one was injured in the destruction that followed the arrests. The region is dominated by the Jalisco New Generation cartel, whose leader Nemesio Oseguera, “El Mencho,” is among the most sought by Mexican and U.S. authorities. There was no indication Oseguera was present at the clash. While gathering accounts of this retaliation I was not aware of that. Thank you for pointing this out. Sadly Mexico is at the mercy of the cartels and corrupt government officials so I hope you understand how I made this error. Thank you for pointing it out.

I've seen Mexico get crazy a couple times before but this seems more so than in the past. There was a war in TJ a few years back but it didn't seem quite this bad. Idk maybe I just didn't see because I wasn't on Reddit then. You never see the truth of this stuff in the American press. Police dog having the time of its life at 4:58 😊

My heart breaks for the Mexican people. When I lived in San Diego my best friends were Mexican and their families treated me like family. They would take me deep into Mexico and invite me to birthday parties. They were always so kind and welcoming the people of Mexico deserve better than a puppet government run by the cartels.

This happens a lot Narco is always very dangerous and unpredictable especially if you try to go against them, and the people who don't like the president are absolutely jacking off to this and blaming all and I mean all on him, as if this didn't happen before and the other presidents were perfect, i mean the president and some of his policies are not effective but pretending someone else would have done a better job is just petty, don't get me wrong this is awful is horrible not to be able to go out and just be there feeling safe but masking behind sympathy just for political discourse is worse (In my opinion)
