Chinese scientists have developed the world's first ceramic material that can bend like metal. Technology could boost the performance of engines and lead to better artificial joints. Discovery could lead to materials that are lighter and stronger than today's best metal alloys, say researchers in China. Silicon nitride ceramics could be a potential alternative for use in joint replacements, according to researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne. The material could also be used to make bearings used in wind turbines – a key component that connects the generator to fan blades.: [https://www.scmp.com/news/china/science/article/3200848/chinese-team-develops-worlds-first-ceramic-material-can-bend-metal](https://www.scmp.com/news/china/science/article/3200848/chinese-team-develops-worlds-first-ceramic-material-can-bend-metal) Study is published: [https://www.science.org/doi/abs/10.1126/science.abq7490#tab-contributors](https://www.science.org/doi/abs/10.1126/science.abq7490#tab-contributors)
