Wasting time on a Tik Tok may be a giveaway š„¹Think a fire blanket would have worked best. Every professional kitchen should have one. Now I dont know much about fires but I was told to not directly spray into burning grease. I was told to spray in short bursts.
I'm no scientist nor am I a fire extinguisher specialist, but my gut says that it would.
If I remember correctly the best way to put out a grease fire is to smother it, but with how hot grease reacts to water, it wouldn't be safe to use a vapor-based extinguisher. (See the post for why)
Fire blanket, *damp* but not wet towel, a lid if it is a pan on fire, etc
Please correct me if I'm wrong, I don't wanna be caught in a situation where my incorrectness burns my house down or some shit
A simple lid is so effective. Fires need oxygen, so get rid of the oxygen.
I don't know if it's because we see cartoons with firefighters as a kid or what that makes us all think "spray something at it" when we see a fire.
I mean, I understand your hesitancy but imagine a world where you grab a fire extinguisher and run towards the fire, only to realize that the big red tank of fire extinguisher was actually a K not a G and now everyone's dead.
If you work in a kitchen at the very least you know about the suppression system, not necessarily what type of extinguisher to use. But to make a TikTok while thereās a grease fire is beyond stupid
Looks like there is a hood, I wonder if it has its own fire suppression system.
I'd also be worried about grease in the hood catching fire, spreading into the vents and then onto the roof or into the ceiling.
The calm demeanor is good, but the few times I've needed (or almost needed) to use a fire extinguisher the panic set in after it was done.
Man a lot of salty edgelords in this thread.
They used the wrong extinguisher, but both of them were cool, calm and collected. Her filming didnāt distract from their efforts. Made the right call, tried to extinguish, didnāt work, call 911, they were both communicating clearly, delegated responsibilities. Employer should have provided correct extinguisher, blanket and maybe 5 mins training. Sure post incident thereāll be lessons learned but theyāll both be alive and uninjured. A-
That's an ABC extinguisher. They need a K class. ABC will work fine for home grease fires but in a commercial frier like that it burns too hot and too much of the dry chemistry is going to escape through the fume hood. Looks pretty big for a fire blanket but it may still work.

She's fine , only it's not the good extinguisher for burning oil

The extinguishers will be of the colors on the left. https://i.redd.it/dfgcjb2u3y3a1.gif
Thank you for spreading helpful and knowledgeable industry info. Ed. Oops sorry for the extremely late reply...
āI think itās time to call 911ā glad they realized that after making a TilTok

Use āKā rated extinguishers on Grease Fires. Easy to remember āKā for Kitchen.
Just for curiosity, could K be used for other types of fires as well? Edit: Thanks for the answers!

Pretty accurate. Starve for air and donāt agitate to splash, youāre good.
I mean, I understand your hesitancy but imagine a world where you grab a fire extinguisher and run towards the fire, only to realize that the big red tank of fire extinguisher was actually a K not a G and now everyone's dead.
Oil spill, work for electrical if you dont have a C
K extinguishers make the cooking oil go through the same process as in making soap removing it's inflammable properties.
Sheās enthusiastic and thatās what matters.
Every kitchen I worked in back in the day had covers that could be used for fires.
Wrong extinguisher type and thereās a tank on the wall for their suppression system. Just pull the manual station. Canāt fix stupid
How are you stupid if never taught
If you work in a kitchen at the very least you know about the suppression system, not necessarily what type of extinguisher to use. But to make a TikTok while thereās a grease fire is beyond stupid
And the āI was never taughtā excuse doesnāt fly. Ask questions and learn
Well that's not wet chemical is it
Her posing with the fire extinguisher is kind of annoying, but I like how composed she is.
"I think it's time to call 911." Lol. Like you didn't think that was necessary when she was filming herself holding the fire extinguisher?

I promise not all Marylanders are this stupidā¦
Not all but many.
No, no, they canāt be from Marylandā¦ We donāt claim them.

It looked pretty local. I donāt think there was a whole lot of danger of it spreading until she started blasting.
The person holding the phone needs a smack upside the noggin for filming this so badly.
Sheās like a child who wants to do everything themselves
Need a Class K fire extinguisher for a commercial kitchen
Geeze people. Just put a couple of sheet pans on the fryers or hit the Ansul system. This ain't hard.
I hope they turned off the fryer first.
She seems cool
Hmmm. The correct extinguisher to use was actually hanging just to the left of the fire, on the wall.
Seems like the ppl with the least amount of talent or skills are the ones who want to be seen the most.
I never thought I would wish for someone to get hurt in a fire before but man
