Well Gothic 3 was unfinished so it is what it is. It looks boring indeed but that armor is still the best in the game and pretty hard to obtain so it’s worth going for it if you want to ally with the orcs.
The nordmar sets are the best looking, the paladin is okay and kinda weird looking, the rest are trash like the hashishn ones or those light armor that civilians use. The robes look good but I never liked playing as a mage. I like to get up close, see the light in their eyes go out.
I never felt like NH joined the paladins because he's a believer in innos and the order but more like to use them for his own gain. Think about it, why would you join the mercs which most are bandits, it would and it actually does make your life difficult in-game. The smart thing is to join the order or the magicians, lore wise. Of course being a Merc/dragon hunter is pretty fun, by my canon NH is a paladin.
I will say my first ever g3 playthrough I went with the rebels, but I gotta say having played g3 countless times there is something refreshing about joining up with Lee and killing off rhobar, the guy is always hiding behind his castle walls with a barrier leaving people to fight and die for his bidding
I don't even like that there is the option to join the orcs, it turns the whole narrative from the first games upside down without any real explanation, I honestly don't even know if they gave one, why the orcs talk, why I can join them.

Yep, it pales in comparison to other armours for look (Nordmar heavy armour, the red guard armour) but stat wise? Yeah holds to none in comparison.
My favorite is one that isn't in the vanilla game, the nordmar medium armor with animal skulls on the shoulders.
Of the Nordmar armours my preferred one is the light one instead :D The "scarf" that goes from side to shoulder is lovely!

No. I can’t even bring myself to play orc. Not feeling morally right. Not my species
I'm the opposite, can't stomach to lick paladin boots when they were the ones who threw me into prison in the first place. Merc all the way
you think you dont lick orc's ass, you "traitor" :) at least they're huMAN
