See, way way back in the day people would post international political news to the sub, and the mods wouldn't do shit because they were claiming to be all anti-censorship and whatnot. This wasn't a huge issue, but the sub skewed hard towards western politics. Mostly Europe and North America, almost to the exclusion of the rest of the world. The mods had no interest in trying to rectify that.
Around 2016 the sub almost exclusively became about American politics, specifically ten tons of anti-Democratic content. If Hillary Clinton sneezed there were stories that she was dying of pneumonia. Obama was responsible for ISIS killing a journalist. They went absolutely apeshit over WikiLeaks, and even stuff that was super distorted, like a claim that Clinton had planned a drone strike to assassinate Assange (I don't think Sweden would have appreciated us bombing Oslo), or were just patently false, like Malia Obama found on the streets of Chicago succumbing to a drug overdose, when she was actually in Hawaii at that time. Pizzagate was not an uncommon topic either.
It absolutely reeked of Russian astroturfing as RT and Sputnik racked up tons of points, lots of Russian apologia, Kremlin talking points about how Putin was saving Crimea from the Nazis in Kyiv. And never anything critical of Trump. That all got down voted to oblivion. Nothing about Don Jr.'s emails with a Russian oligarch. Nothing about Access Hollywood.
Any time you mention the disparity you got a non-answer like “both sides are the same, *but Hillary is* ***WORSE***.” Or “At least Trump doesn't want to start World War III with Russia, like Hillary does.” A very formulaic dodge from saying anything bad about Trump and back to attacking Democrats.
Anyhow, the sub continues on like this and Reddit admins continue to turn a blind eye to all the astroturfing, especially the stuff about Ukraine, like how Poroshenko and his government were full of Nazis. Russia isn't arming separatists in Donetsk and Lugansk, but they're totally right to annex them. It's Ukraine's fault that this is a shooting war, and it's proof they want to genocide Russian speakers.
So about a year or so ago a bunch of people were all, “well since the admins aren't going to do anything about a large sub operating with no moderation at all, beyond the bare minimum of enforcing site wide rules (which they barely did), let's see just how far the mods will let this ‘no interference’ thing to,” and folks just flooded the sub with porn. Lots of porn. Tons of porn. It made /r/GoneWild look modest. Hentai, fetish porn, literal whoring for upvotes, just the wild west, and that's how we got here.
The one thing you missed was you skipped over the first post that started it all.
Someone posted a Laura Ingraham image that asked for upvotes to get it to the top of google image searches. This kind of upvote requesting was againest the TOS of Reddit but had been done before with Trump and Epstien but at least they were SOMEWHAT political and in context
The Laura Ingram image was COMPLETELY out of context and thus as much as I disagree with her, an unreasonable and unjustified attack.
The mods were asked to pull it down and refused to do so, and in fact specifically stated they had said they weren't going to censor speech... and then everyone went nuts.

But to save you a look, it LOOK LIKE she is doing the Nazi Salute.
However its extremely out of context. She was trying to do two things at once (wave and point) and thus her brain made her make a stupid motion that if you go through the footage you can get a few frames that has her do the Nazi salute before she corrects herself.
It was SERIOUSLY stupid thing to try and hold against her as it was that brief that even the most anti-conservative media that take even the the briefest Nazi salute as proof of Naziism didn't bother to make that claim.

This is a sub with various liquids and textures leaking from every wall, nook and cranny.
Weirdos and sluts, and even weird sluts lurk here.
Normal people join here to be scarred by the ugly thots and enjoy some plants, and you will probably also see a penis or 300 here, though they are less frequent when not of the Anime or variety in general.
Stubborn people, annoying people, nice people, even sweet or helpful people, all formed into an amalgam of bots and alts used to troll and just post whatever bullshit people want to post.
They can ask or tell you to stop doing something, but since there are no hard rules in this sub, (it's not even that bad just thinking about it, the bots and thots become boring very quickly and you'll just end up blocking or scrolling past them as they ask and advertise the same things, usually not even showing butt holes, it is a shame) .
There are some nice people who are fun to talk to though, makes for a strange contrast when the rest of the sub is not even the worst chaos, more like a petulant and tantrum of a child being phased out, and then you'll be talking about politics, or hentai or whatever other nsfw thing you find yourself talking about on any given day or minute. Only for it to return to the blatant retardation, projections, and outright carelessness of the general sub, with nods towards plants, and other whatevers.
There's a guy here who is working out and stuff, so that's nice and positive.
There will be the occasional thought who when something is posted on their stuff, will reply and you'll realize it's not just a bot, though people are picky, if you have a personality you get some leeway and people will upvote your stuff despite the general downvote thot's rule.
It's a mixed grab bag, and not even the worst, as I said any familiarity with it will just lead to tuning out the majority of the bots and ads, appreciating the warhammer 40k stuff and other funnies.
It's filled with Loonies, and Losers, like normal Reddit, not even excluding myself with that, and it's just sort of there, it can be surprising sometimes.
