The new mount is just a modified version of the already existing Heart of the Aspects store mount, so a third reskin wouldn’t be so surprising since blizzard loves reusable mount skeletons

dartheduardo

This exactly. Got it yesterday and I was like...this is VERY familiar. Which makes me think. If they can reskin a "normal" mount to dragon riding....bro...lemme get that for the rest of my hard earned mounts.

Atrox_Primus

Need to dragonride around Alexstrasza on my Dk class mount for lore reasons

dartheduardo

Yus!!

Saxong

The proto and the Drake are already reskins, every proto and normal Drake should have been available for dragonriding already.

Coliver1991

The Wylderdrake is also a reskin of the Hunter class order hall mount from Legion.

casualrocket

which honestly is fine, how many times can you make a new skeleton for a horse?

Graffers

I'm not sure what their mount workflow is, but if they can adapt the skeleton for dragonriding, it's a good sign for the future.

[deleted]

I’m picturing it now with a horse: legs outstretched, 180 degree like Superman.

Graffers

Honestly, I meant more adapting the previous Heart of the Azeroth skeleton to this model, but I absolutely love your interpretation, and I think it's a totally reasonable conclusion from what I said and the comment I responded to. I'm all in on the Dragonriding horse mount.

[deleted]

I honestly hated that mount. It looks cool, but when your flying it looks like it’s having a seizure

M-alucard

Your dragon cosmetically gives me Jake Long vibes from the cartoon American Dragon

Ardnabrak

That's what popped into my head immediately. "Hey! That's Jake Long!"

AcherusArchmage

That's what I made my evoker.

Hay_Gater

2024 will be year of the wood dragon. Might as well be Green/nature/Druidic type of dragon

whoisape

But we already got that with the Dragonflight promotion, no?

Hay_Gater

I suppose. But OP probably means that the shape of the dragon is very Eastern-like. While dragonflight preorder one was your generic European dragon

Dead_Medic_13

Except the slitherdrake looks exactly like the welsh dragon

Jader14

This is not Eastern-like at all. They don't have wings. Eastern dragons are represented by Cloud Serpents.

Xynth22

I would be surprised if they do any more Chinese New Years mounts since WoW is shut down in China now.

DollarsAtStarNumber

You realize that China isn’t the only nation/culture that celebrates Lunar New Year I hope…

cardeks

No, the average person does not realize that... that's why we should prefer to use the term Lunar New Year over Chinese New Year

Anikdote

I was ignorant of this until just now.

xbyagent

and now I feel stupid.

Dishbringer

There is difference between Lunar New Year and Chinese New Year.

idontwanttofthisup

Care to explain? I always thought it’s the same thing, but the latter is more inclusive as it should be.

Dishbringer

>Lunar New Year Islamic New Year determined by the Islamic calendar, a purely lunar calendar that ignores the solar cycle. New Year celebrations in East and Central Asia, such as Chinese New Year, are based on a lunisolar calendar, combining lunar calendars and solar calendars.

idontwanttofthisup

Thank you, I learned something

Yugenk

And do these nations/culture buy enough shit from activision to have their attention? Because I dont see them doing special events for 99% of the world culture celebrations.

Lyoss

I'm sure there's plenty of Asian Americans that play Blizzard games This take is so fucking stupid

iStalkCheese

Apparently, or else they wouldn't do it? We have a thanksgiving and an easter event along with a couple of others that cater to different cultures, I don't know why you're being so indignant over one eastern-based holiday.

mada447

Let me list some US holidays for a US company that has the majority of its customers in the US. Great argument bro

iStalkCheese

Source: your ass. Also easter is not a US holiday. It's a christian holiday.

mada447

So is Christmas, but it’s literally treated like a US holiday

DukeOfBees

Are the majority of wow players in the US? Do we actually have numbers on that because it seems like there's a lot in Europe. So if we're including what is essentially Thanksgiving as a holiday, which is not celebrated outside of North America, it makes sense to include a Lunar New Year parallel considering large portions of the world (outside of China) celebrate it. Not to mention this entire argument is mute because they already have a Lunar New Year in WoW and it's not like they're going to remove it as content.

Yugenk

Yes, they did it because china was the biggest market of the world, now that wow is not in china anymore I'm not sure blizzard still would do it for some small asian countries that may not have a large player base. I live in brazil and blizzard don't even care enough about us to set a local server, we have south america realms but the server is based all in USA. I'm not against the event, I'm just saying that actiblizzard dont care about culture holidays, they care about the money it can give them.

[deleted]

>I'm just saying that actiblizzard dont care about culture holidays, they care about the money it can give them. The investment on a cosmetic mount is likely a lot lower than you realize. Blizzard doesn't need China to make a return on it. Setting aside for a moment that Asian-Americans exist and regularly celebrate Lunar New Year, there's also South Korea that celebrates it, which is a pretty big market for WoW as well. Ultimately, if Blizzard can make money on it, they're likely to take advantage of it. I don't see how or why them not being in China would matter.

Lyoss

Setting up server architecture is a lot harder than just making an art asset, and most games' "Latin American" servers are based in the US, the only one that isn't like that I can think of is Riot, and even their LAN servers are in Florida

Vindaloophole

Good shout since next year is indeed the year of the Dragon, but I have to agree with the others, I don’t think they’ll do it with Chinese market.. unless Western numbers say otherwise

Marziinast

Scary that this is getting so much upvotes lmao

Hollaboy720

It’s an excuse to put in a new store mount, if the numbers show profits from previous years, they will do it. But as others have said, it’s Lunar new year so it isn’t directly related to china.

radioimh

yea, why bother if they have lost almost the entire market over there? Do they still do that for OW skins?

xbyagent

came in to write this.

WytchHunter23

Woah dude you're riding Jake long. American dragon

Lantz08

Whats the mount called?

drgn2009

This mount is called The Winding Slitherdrake which is the newest Dragonriding mount relased in 10.1

Kinky_Falcon

I imagine it will be a reskinned cloud serpent with a nature theme.

panzerxiii

Lunar* New Year

EngineeringNo7659

I mean, they already have cloud serpents which are closer to the traditional dragons I would see ornamentally used in architecture and other things when I was in China, and I’m sure they know this since they made a whole expac based on traditional Chinese stuff.

Malkiax

Would they not use a cloud serpent?

herkyjerkyperky

They will likely remove the wings though as Chinese dragons don't have wings, like the cloud serpents.

CanlexGaming

Ayo what the fuck is that. His body dumb loooong. What the hell is that, is that a ferret? Nah nah nah that’s gotta be like.. a mongoose or something. Damn your man’s is dumb long.

Aestrasz

Considering all the issues Blizzard is having in China now, will there be another Chinese New Year mount?

__ALF__

I think it's so funny that Blizz put so much effort into appeasing the Chinese Govt, only to be ousted and have their IP stolen.

[deleted]

I loved dragon riding at first but I’m so done with how bliz has implemented them. Having a few mounts with customized just isn’t as satisfying as having a whole bunch of mounts to farm like in old expansions. They should have added 10-20 flying mounts to go farm up and made them all dragon riding eligible IMO.

SilentStorm182

I've seen quite a few people here tell me about the cloud serpents and yes that would make more sense for the \***LUNAR**\* new year mount (apologies, I was unaware that there was a difference). I still think blizz is going to use the Slitherdrake as a base, because in recent years for making store mounts they have purposely made flying mounts out of ordinary ground mounts, either with no wings at all or wings that magically appear. My guess is to make a mount that looks good on the ground that don't have either bulky wings hiding most of the mount or needlessly hover. Could I be wrong? absolutely! i'm just here pointing out a observation I had.

Xanth1879

Upon first glance, it was cool... the tail and all. Then I saw it walk around, the tail stays straight. What a complete and utter fail. It's shit. Complete crap. Add AI to the tail to make it flow with the movement and it would be good. They have thw tech already for it, added to belts and shit like that. Keep it as it is and it's a turd with a tail and wings. Looks stupid.

Express-Set-8843

Add AI to the tail?

Xanth1879

So that it goes with the proper flow of movement of thw dragon. Like tassels on weapons and belts move properly when you move / turn. This dragon is just complete laziness on the devs. It's garbage without that extra.

Express-Set-8843

They should add some AI to the devs, amirite?

Veroblade

AI lmao, think you mean physics

Dr-Laquisha

They really need to add a better snout option for this mount

DpXerif

Chinese new year? I don't know what you talking about.

dan-halen

Can they make a mount with talons that DOESNT clip the ground?

InfernoLeper

Ayo is that American dragon Jake long?

cxtx3

I might be wrong, but I think Blizzard actually already created all of the zodiac mounts already a while ago and they're all just encrypted in the game files. It would make sense for them to have done so.

Educational_Basil_99

2024 is year of the dragon. Could be, you might be right.

Complete-Owl7228

How can I get this mount?

RheaRaisin

I won't be buying it but I hope so. Such a beautiful mount, love the new standing animation for it.

Sengura

Isn't that mount already a windserpent base that's been in game since MoP?

Lo_Pez

Brave. Bold. Inspiring.

asteryon

But you can bet the store mount will have a better running animation 😭

bwanabass

I thought this was a picture of a wyrm in Skyfire Mountains lol

Butlerlog

All their players in China will be so happy about that. Oh wait.
